When I began searching for a yoga certification program back in 2023, I held two intentions close: spirituality and grounding. I wanted to train somewhere that felt like my happy place—the beach. Naturally, I looked at several programs in Maui. But something was still missing.

Then I discovered Ashtanga Yoga.

During that time, I was navigating deep grief and major life changes, something between a spiritual awakening and a quarter-life crisis. My research eventually led me to Christina’s shala, and from the very beginning I felt a sense of peace. I had broken my foot four months before my training, and her program was described as therapeutic—exactly what I needed. With clearance from my doctors, MRI, and X-rays, I made my way to Maui. Christina graciously invited me to stay with her for three weeks.

On day one, she immediately noticed that my foot wasn’t fully healed. There were many asanas I simply couldn’t get into, no matter how hard I tried. But instead of frustration, I learned patience and the art of adjustment. The true practice of yoga is learning to adapt to your body as it is—because no two bodies are the same, and each of us carries injuries and blockages we may not fully understand.

Ashtanga teaches discipline, patience, and grace. I am deeply grateful to have had Christina guiding me through every challenge.

Back in the States, I ended up needing two surgeries. After more than a year away from practice—out of fear and physical limitation—I returned to Maui to rebuild my routine. I worried she might call me out for being away so long, but she didn’t. Instead, she welcomed me with open arms, full of insight and compassion, helping me navigate the new adjustments my body needed. It was a breath of fresh air.

It felt as if I had never left. My body remembered the surrender, the grounding, and the sweetness of ujjayi breathing.

If you’re considering surrendering to something greater than yourself—something meaningful and transformative—do it without hesitation. With Christina, you will be held, guided, and supported more than you can imagine.

We don’t practice yoga to praise anyone. We practice to return to ourselves, to be present in our vessel, and through that presence, we naturally uplift everyone around us.

Namaste 🧘🏻‍♀️

I am a long term (decades) Ashtanga practitioner, and I've been lucky to work with many amazing teachers. But Christina is something truly special. She is much more than just a yoga teacher. Her knowledge of Asana goes way beyond technique and experience, she teaches how posture can heal the body and the mind as a physical and mental therapy. Her knowledge of both the original Ashtanga tradition combined with training in Ayurveda makes her a truly unique teacher. I have learned so much from her already and I am really excited to discover more and more of the traditional wisdom of the practice with her guidance. She is also assisted by some really brilliant teachers, so there is always someone special to guide you in your practice. I feel like I have found my teacher and come home even though I live thousands of miles away!

I love Christina and her studio so much and feel truly blessed practising here every morning. In the past I’ve experienced teachers pushing me too much into postures but I fully trust Christina’s adjustments and her knowledge of the human body is incredible. All the teachers radiate trustworthiness and compassion, creating a beautiful safe space for practise. It’s remarkable how skilled both teachers and students are. So motivation is constantly at a high level. All teachers are more than just assisting and have given me valuable advice that goes beyond the multiple times. No matter your level, this is the best place to learn and if you’re thinking about coming, this is your sign to just go. Coming here has made my life so much better and will make yours, too! Aloha & Namaste 🙏🏽

Ive had the privilege of practicing with Christina online and feel deeply grateful for the experience. Christina leads her community and guides her students with authenticity, warmth, and genuine care from the heart. Her teachings are richly informed by her life experiences as a mother, Ashtanga practitioner, nurse, yoga therapist, and Ayurvedic health counselor. Because of that, learning from her feels expansive, diverse, and especially supportive for those of us with families.

I hope to continue learning from her for many years to come and I highly recommend her to anyone seeking a holistic yoga practice that honors the beautiful ancient traditions of yoga and that nurtures total health and wellbeing.

had a tendon snap from an aggressive assist in this shala in october 2024. without hip surgery, i will have chronic pain the rest of my life and i will never be able to practice the primary series again.

take the waiver you sign very literally, as it’s inherently risky to practice here. be weary of the student teachers also. as far as my studies are concerned, this place teaches ego, not yoga.

I came to Maui for a visit of about a month. The first minute I stepped into the practice space, at Kristina Martini’s shala, I felt at home. Kristina accompanied me closely, with great professionalism, with appreciation, depth and also a lot of joy. In the shala there is a feeling of a family walking together on the path. There is room for everyone! Beginners and veteran practitioners, regular and occasional practitioners.
Kristina has infinite knowledge and she shares it respectfully, with attentive support and in-depth explanations. I had a very meaningful experience, my practice developed greatly and my vacation became unforgettable thanks to my daily encounter with the yoga tradition and with Kristina at her magical shala. I am grateful for every minute I had the opportunity to practice like this.

I spent three incredible weeks with Christina on Maui. She is an outstanding teacher. She practices what she teaches and meets you where you are. During the yoga teacher training I learned about Ashtanga theory, sutras and mantras. There was also plenty of class observation and teaching opportunities with a focus on hands on adjustment. It was truly inspiring to practice in her Shala alongside students of all levels and walks of life and experience yoga therapy first hand. I highly recommend studying with her. Whether you want to deepen your practice or refine your teaching knowledge and skills, she is the right teacher. Thank you, Christina for opening your arms and doors to me.

Christiana is honestly one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. She’s so dedicated not just to her students, but to the Shala and to helping each of us grow in our yoga practice.

She has so much knowledge and experience, and her understanding of the body is incredible. The way she gives adjustments is so thoughtful and personal it really feels like she knows exactly what each person needs.

I’m so grateful to be her student and to have this amazing Shala to come to every morning.

Christina is a once in a lifetime teacher. She is extremely knowledgeable and honors the ancient teachings of yoga. Having a medical background as well, she is able to offer assist that are on another deeper more therapeutic level.

I’ve watched Christina lead and guide so many students on their journey both on and off the mat, through her years of experience. I was one of them and personally healed myself so much that I devoted myself to Ashtanga and became a teacher and am actively studying under her guidance.

The Shala itself is a community of loving, peaceful, likeminded and devoted practitioners all coming together to evolve in our practice and our lives. This is only possible from the environment that Christina’s has created, and why people come from all over the world to train with her. If you’re interested and are willing to be committed, I highly recommend seeking her training. Stay blessed much love.

At the Shala there is a very special sense of grounded happiness with everyone practicing together under Christina’s guidance and teaching. I feel so lucky to have wandered in! Christina is the best teacher because she is knowledgeable, honest, compassionate, and lighthearted! It’s very aspirational to be around her and with all the other wonderful students and training teachers. Christina is a tireless and dedicated senior yoga teacher in the Ashtanga realm. The moment I stepped into shala (yoga school) i knew I had found my place. This is a path to body healing and feeling free in our bodies. And balanced and can’t recommend this place. Christina is a gift the Maui community and the larger yoga community.

Her in person/zoom hybrid approach means that visitors can learn and continue to work with her after returning home.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Christina.

I've been with the Shala for 6 months and Christina and her teacher Ivane have changed my life. I am a former D1 athlete with a busy life (5 kids, CEO of a business). As part of being that athlete, I had 2 joint surgeries on my knee and shoulder during college years followed up with a complex scope in my mid-40's. While I am active, I found that my range of motion kept deteriorating and I was living with chronic pain, specifically my knee, a clicking hip, semi-fallen arch in my foot that made hiking painful, and neck, shoulder and upper back stiffness. I wanted to deepen my connection with yoga to address these issues but didn't know how until I found Christina.

For the short story, in 6 months I have no more chronic pain at all, anywhere. My range of motion continues to improve. I practice the full Primary Series 3-5 times a week now and am supported with it and the specific needs of my body in such an amazing way. Christina and Ivane are incredible teachers who work with me one-on-one, over Zoom calls as I don't live in Maui. I'm guided to work on small adjustments that profoundly allow me to gain strength and openness. I can take on new activities without being afraid that some part of my body will not cooperate -- i.e. I dance and sing in community plays and the dancing is not hard anymore. I also find I have a core reserve of inner strength that supports me through my day regardless of how tired I may be.

Joining Christina's Shala is the best life decision I've made and I look forward to growing my practice for the rest of my life.

I have been practicing yoga for over a decade. I have lived in many countries and met many teachers, Christina is one of the most knowledgeable teachers I have ever had. She holds the space in the mysore room in a very unique way. Many people can teach asana but very few people can teach ashtanga Vinyāsa in a holistic and traditional way. She does it perfectly. If you are looking to get into the practice, whether you are a beginner or experienced practitioner, this is the place, you will find guidance in a Traditional, holistic approach. Christina always considers your needs and will work with you one on one. Thanks Christina

Yoga is a systematic guide to living. A yoga teacher who only teaches yogaasana does not provide this. A yoga teacher must possess wisdom, guided by the teachings and traditions. These are hard criteria to meet, and, sadly, are rarely met. Christina is the yoga teacher (guru) who possesses the necessary wisdom (from a deeply experienced life). She clearly lives the teachings and the traditions, and imparts them, more than just verbally, to her students. I am always pleasantly surprised (although it is not so "surprising", given Christina's expertise), at the "gems" of wisdom and sage advice that come out of her mouth. As for the yogaasana practice, it is pedagogically sound: provide the right impetus, at the right time, in a way which is right for that student. Challenge, but don't dissuade from practicing. Just enough bite to keep one motivated, but surrounded in kindness, to provide the sense of safety we all seek. I highly recommend Christina to all seekers of a higher practice. But I also highly recommend her to all who have no idea what they are seeking. Both will feel the same under her instruction, and both will grow. मोक्ष

I started Ashtanga yoga with Christina a year back. Christina asks for 1 month commitment so she can evaluate our strength and area for improvement. I have hip flexor strain and meniscus tear due to sports. Christina listened to it carefully and gave me modifications and carefully monitored me in poses which required those muscles. I still do have pain whenever I do the poses but it has drastically been reduced and I am could clearly see my progress. She always advises to listen to your body and do poses slowly with full awareness, that you have nothing to prove to others by trying to excel a pose by pushing so hard to the point of breaking your body and its all about the mind and mental healing first. That was one of the best advice for someone who wants to start the practice. I also have anxiety issues and was relying on medication from time to time, but with consistent yoga practice I do not face anxiety attacks anymore. For people who do not know Christina is a student of Nancy Gilgoff and Manju jois. I would recommend Christina’s classes to anyone who wants to take Ashtanga as life time practice.
On a side note, I thought I was a pretty flexible person but Ashtanga proved me wrong. The first time I tried the entire series I was soaked in sweat and completely wiped out.

I have explored various healing methods throughout my life, and choosing to practice yoga with Christina was the single most impactful decision I've made on my overall health and wellbeing. I did the 200 hour yoga teacher training with her last year, and during that 3-week period, my practice improved more than 8 years of going to classes prior. Within a couple days, I was doing new poses (headstand, wheel, etc.) that I previously hadn't been able to do, my flexibility improved such that my heels stayed on the floor in downward dog, etc. But, more importantly, learning from Christina encompasses the history, philosophy, and ethics of yoga as well (which happens off the mat)! The yoga poses are simply one piece within much a broader potential spiritual growth: to act in alignment with ourselves, treat others with kindness and compassion, and handle whatever life throws at us with grace. Ashtanga yoga is challenging - but, as with many things in life, the challenge is what sparks growth and learning. Practicing with Christina is the greatest gift you could give yourself, and I couldn't recommend Shala Santosha more highly!

I highly recommended Christina for anyone. Christina is an amazing instructor who really cares for each student. She listens to each practitioner and accommodates for all levels but also inspires new growth in them. She is experienced, advanced and knowledgeable. Her teaching is very authentic and she’s learned from many master teachers and follows a very traditional way. She is devoted and passionate about sharing this practice but also living a healthy, wholesome life and genuinely cares about people.

Other than her regular classes, there are private classes and the teacher training program. I’ve taken the yoga teacher training program with Christina and the program was so much more than I imagined and really appreciate and value all that I learned. I had a rich, positive interactive experience with a lot of attention to detail for each class. She truly gives it her all every single day and so much love for everyone. Going through the program has strengthened my practice but my daily life has improved in so many ways off the mat as well.

I grow so much from practicing with her and see amazing transformations in myself and in other students who learn from her. She is there every step of the way. Ashtanga yoga detoxes and nourishes and it is so good for everyone at all stages and ages. There’s so much healing and strength that comes from each practice. There is always cleansing and calming of my mind and body; negativity is washed away.

She continues to inspire me. I am so glad I was able to meet Christina and am very grateful to learn from her.

I felt even more comfortable living there than I do at home however that works. I was new to ashtanga when I started Christina’s program. She kept us moving everyday and gave us the confidence we needed. Christina’s approach to teaching was remarkable. I can now do a headstand for minutes which I could never do in my life and was able to learn full primary series. I felt so much stronger and most importantly my digestion was improving. I never thought it would be possible within that short a time period, but with the right mentor, I now believe anything is possible. She has such and infectious positive energy and knowledge about Ashtanga yoga unlike other yoga teachers I have met, I always laugh at something during her classes. Your yoga practice will never be the same after you practice with Christina. I will be forever grateful !

Christina is an amazing teacher, very talented and has a deep knowledge of Ashtanga yoga and its lineage. Her space is quite a unique one in the sense that it is very open -- no prior ashtanga experience required, which is good for those who are intimidated by the practice.

She also offers teacher training, which is another amazing opportunity to bring ashtanga to others. With her extensive knowledge and great strength, you will learn so much about yourself and the lineage in such a short amount of time! Would highly recommend this teacher training and all of the light that chirstina brings :)

I have the honor of being one of Christina’s students. Five years ago I took my first class with Christina. I never looked back, I arrived to my home. Ashtanga truly is for everyone. Christina is a caring, advanced teacher, one is learning quality yoga for the mind body and spirit. This is yoga for the rest of your life. True relationships are formed with these advanced/master teachers that have helped me in my practice. I have grown in my practice but I am always a new student. Just like life has ups and downs so will practice. This practice will aid in all mind stuff. Excellent medicine, excellent prescriptions taught by the best!!! Namaste.

I got my Ashtanga yoga teacher training from Christina when she was in San Francisco. She is the best yoga teacher I’ve met. She is very informative and professional, with all her knowledge and experience from practicing with Ashtanga masters. She is kind, listens to every student’s needs and makes adaptation. Every time I practiced with her, my body and mind was cleansed and calmed. I was pregnant when I practiced with her, and she was guiding me all the way through my pregnancy. So thankful that I had her as my mentor!

Christina is an exceptional yoga teacher and one of the kindest persons I've ever met. I feel so lucky I met her and taught me all about the Ashtanga yoga system. My practice in the last 3 years has evolved so much; it reached a level I could only dream before. If you really want to know the true meaning of Yoga practice on and off the mat, Christina is the teacher you're looking for.
