Not a bad place for morning PT. The gym is tucked behind the Navy barracks and isnt the easiest to find if you havent been back there. Overall the gym was nice and clean and had a nice basketball court/locker room/showers and a cardio/weight lifting area which was nice, but a little in the smaller side for a base gym, although NCTAMs isnt very large anywats. Overall, decent place to work out!

This gym is off limits to DoD contractors. Pretty wild considering how many contractors directly contribute to national defense. I guess thatβs how ship mates do.

The best smallest gym in island! Peaceful away from the messy traffic in Schofield! Doesnβt get packed and has everything you need to get a solid workout.

Had all the equipment I needed and was nice and quiet. A much more pleasant experience than the big gym at JBPHH.

A gym. Very small changing room and locker area. Has a basketball court, Cardio room and a room with treadmills and weights. Lots of different activities you can do to keep fit.

Manager is incompetent and it really sucks that the gym here is ran by this individual "Lori". When I do squats I change out bars, one day I was told the bar can't be moved by an employee. A rule isn't posted anywhere in the facility, and all the bars in the facility are identical minus this one bar. I also talked to several different staff members and some said there was no rule while others said it is a rule. I talked to the manager over the phone and the reason why the bar cannot be used anywhere else in the gym is because the bar came with the platform, uh alright? Then I was told it was a safety concern because people have gotten hurt when moving the bars. By this logic, I shouldn't be allowed to adjust the height on the squat rack since that involves moving the bar and I could get hurt in the process, I guess you should make that a rule too. The manager started to get annoyed, she later spouted that the bar was made "specifically" for the platform because of it's hexagon shape and this prevents the bar from rolling when dropping the weight. I had to restrain myself from laughing at her because the rubber weights are round therefor it will roll. The bar will be unable to roll if it's unloaded though because it's not a typical round sided barbell but a hexagon sided one. The Navy purchases these bars because ships move a lot while out to sea and you don't want bars rolling around because that can be unsafe. I tried explaining to the manager that this was the only decent bar for squatting because this bar had much better knurling and also had a center knurling that grips into your back helping to prevent the bar from moving. All the other bars have barely any knurling on them, while having a completely smooth center. She told me she's never had any complaints or issues and she prefers keeping things the way she has it. Eventually, all she had to say was the bar is only meant for the platform over and over again. You probably don't hear complaints because most people don't know who to talk to and the manager just doesn't give a flying flip regardless if your throwing knowledge at her. I informed the manager about this too and she said she has no clue what I was talking about. Later I tell her that I'm in there a ton and if someone is on the platform they aren't using that bar (what a shocker). I informed her that this bar will scrap up your shins and legs because of the center knurling and this is probably why people don't use it. The bar is hard to see because its not on the platform but instead hidden behind the platform, while another bar is on the platform (which is the exact same barbell as the other 4 barbells in the facility). I asked if it bothered her that the bar gets little to no use, and she replies "it doesn't bother me at all what so ever". I personally wonder who bought this bar or this equipment because it's crazy to think you have equipment that wasn't cheap and not being used but instead gathering dust. I guess if you purchase things that aren't coming out of your own pocket then who cares right? I tried to reason with her by asking why not use the silver bar as the permanent squat bar? This would fix the "safety" concern that she seemed so concerned about. The manger just wouldn't budge, she just got angrier, because near the end I think she realized how stupid and wrong she sounded. Since she is the "manager" its her way or the highway regardless if she is wrong. I found the bar we were having a disagreement about on the internet (had to take the url off lame) ,the description on the site supports what I been trying to explain to the manager. I've been in the fitness industry for over 15 years, and have a bachelors degree in kinesiology but yet here I am not being listened to while having to listen to bad information and bad practices. There shouldn't be incompetent managers and untrained staff in this field. I guess doing very little behind a counter is just too much, while also making sure to add useless rules for the sake of having rules

The gym is the only thing I enjoy here on NCTAMS. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The equipment is old but still usuable. There isn't much, not like the gym on Pearl Harbor but it has the necessities and you can make it work. The weekend hours kill me, I wish it was open earlier and closed later. It gets pretty packed, you have to experiment with the timing.

It's got the basics and a few more bells and whistles when it comes to a gym. Plenty of equipment for use behind the counter, just have to be creative enough to use it.

Raw jewel number three, and the favorite in which I will go to this one over and over, at least once a week.
Medium sized facility but lots of amenities, commune showers and small square depth sauna.
