My experience was great.....until I moved and tried to cancel. Fair warning, canceling is a nightmare! I canceled in person three times! They still charged me after and said they had no notes in the system of me canceling. Sounds like they need to train their representatives on how to process cancelations. They said to call back for a manager for a refund and I could never reach one no matter how many times I called. Absolutely ridiculous and a scam if you ask me! I'd take your business elsewhere. After reading reviews, im clearly not the only one with the same problem!

The sales representative I encountered was extremely rude and impatient. When I asked questions, he responded with indifference. Their sales team clearly needs substantial training, as politeness and patience are fundamental qualities for a salesperson, yet they are completely lacking.

The coaches are awesome.
It's hard to use the gym equipment at most times they're open. It's overcrowded. Many people sit on their phones while sitting at the equipment. I used 3 different equipment with 4-5 reps in the time it took them to do 1-2 reps on one piece. I would ask them if they were finished but they stayed there on their phones.

Another issue that I had is that the coaches can record you, the minute you walk into the gym. There are no exceptions. I do not want to be recorded while working out. Taking a pic after the class is one thing but during my workout; that's a hard pass.

When I asked to cancel, they said I'd be charged another month so I can keep using it. Why would I want to use the gym when you refuse to stop recording me during my workouts? Apparently your gym needs the $80 more than I do. Keep it. Maybe you can buy some morality!

They care more about recording than keeping a client.

I received my Cancellation request which was electronically filled out by the UFC staff and then emailed to me. My last payment is 11/21/2025 but as of 01/21/2025, I can no longer use the gym. So why am I paying for the gym if I can't even use it?

Unprofessional. Avoid at all costs. No parking. Dirty gym and business practices. They will fraudulently bill you after trying to cancel membership and then ghost you or block the transaction, then you wake up with them using a work around to keep billing, and you have a $135+ charge missing and no communication. I have been attempting to contact them for over a MONTH written, phone calls, and texts regarding cancelling my membership per their policy, and they will not abide by it. So if you are free to part with your money and like dirty equipment, this is the place for you!

Ew. Service is very poor. They have a terrible cancellation policy. I had a traumatic experience there and they kept insisting on a 21 day cancellation and trying to charge my card. When I told them to stop and that I was going to report it as fraud on my card they said they would send it to collections if I didn't pay it. Definitely no care for the people who go there. Also the music is unbearably loud.

Packed to the brim, staff park in the front so there's never any parking for customers unless we go into the back and walk around, the first face I always see is some dude in a hat that never smiles and only a couple of the front desk workers will greet otherwise it's just phone time. Loved Penns old center, this is just... money. Will update if things get better.

The staff is amazing there. The front girl is always warm and friendly. The coaches there make me feel seen, heard and motivated. Whenever I've had a questions about a machine (im a novice) they are super helpful for me to get the best and safest benefits. That recovery center is the beezneez.

They trick you into signing up telling you they have a promo and they will wave membership and months later they charge for membership also they charge you for 1st and last month and when you want to cancel they still charge you for an extra month they also do not tell you you have to give 21 days notice before canceling.
Email customer service and they do not get back to you.

We were paying for our son to go here and take jiu-jitsu. He’s a 15-year-old boy. He got severely bullied in the hallway in front of the studio. I contacted the manager Chris and he said he would refund us the two months that my son was refusing to go. After speaking to him and the office person, they both told me they would refund it. After 15 to 20 phone calls they were not returning my phone call and they did not refund me. This is not how you “protect the Keiki “ like they have a mural on the side of their building saying they do. So disappointed in not only the company but the people that work there for not doing something about this to make it right.Zero stars!!

This is the grungiest gym I've ever been part of, of the 4 I've attended on this island, or elsewhere. I know BJ likes his face, it's plastered all over the wall, but he doesn't seem to know what Windex is. I've been here three months and each day I see bros running around with vacuums but not once have they cleaned a mirror or dusted under equipment. And I don't know if running a DJ club set is normal for UFC gyms but even with my earbuds turned all the way to dangerous volumes there's no escaping it. Lots of equipment equivalent to single use kitchen appliances. They could comfortably accommodate so many more people with more cable and pully machines. Unfortunately for me it's the only gym in proximity that has the hours I need.

Excellent! Great music - loud, which is awesome! The music is not overbearing or too loud - with your own headphones in/on, you cannot hear the facility’s music. There is a variety of equipment - you may have to wait to utilize the equipment that you want… Find something else in the meantime. No putrid smells. Appears & feels Clean. Friendly staff. Water to purchase ($2). Free Water fountain & bottle refill available. Change rooms & Lockers for both sex. A1 all around. Also, weekly vacationing passes available for purchase ($50) at an Extremely affordable rate.

I have not/will not utilize the showers so my review does not reflect that entity of the gym. Also, I am not a local resident. I am a frequent visitor of Hilo, HI.

Do not sign up! The gym is super nice and I loved the child care available. BUT. They make you sign up for a contract, (paying an "activation fee") and its impossible to cancel. I stopped going months ago, and asked them to cancel my membership right away. They said I need to give advance notice. So they wanted another month payment for me to cancel, which I didn't have. Since they wouldn't let me cancel, they kept adding monthly charges despite me not using it. Now they are threatening me with collections. No aloha, no flexibility, no understanding with local families that may hit a rough patch.

Good equipment, the staff is mostly friendly and helpful. The restrooms could use more attention, the equipment doesn’t get wiped down as often as you would think for a very busy gym. Most times the music is so loud I feel like I’m at a club. The biggest thing is the billing contract is shady in my opinion. There is an annual maintenance fee that kicks in after 2 or 3 months and you need to give at least 21 days prior to cancelling. Basically I cancelled today but I have a paid membership for 3 more months that i am not gonna use.

Staff is friendly and helpful. Maintenance on broken equipment happens pretty quickly. Mens locker room and bathroom could use a little more attention. I hope they add more equipment because even getting there at 0530, I still will have to wait for some machines or other equipment. All in all, I'd give it 8.1/10

Let me preface this by saying everything rises and falls with leadership and Chris is not the motivational figure I would expect to be at the helm of such an organization. I cancelled because of a non-negotiable/inflexible incident with the head guy; Chris. Unfortunately I’ve got to do a charge back with bank bc they are still charging me months later and are seemingly unresponsive. I give it 2 stars because in actuality the cleaning crew is probably the hardest working employees in da joint.

I joined on a special deal they were having for a reasonable price. Then I got charged some random 'fees' a couple of months later. Pretty much negating the introductory offer price I had paid. I find that to be shady and canceled my membership because of it. Now I must wait within 21 days of the billing cycle to end the contract. I have been to a few UFC gyms in other states.
This is by far the nicest one I have been to.
The equipment is really nice, there is something for everyone, it's a big gym with a lot of room, the few employees I have talked to are great people, and it's an all around good atmosphere.

It's a bit more exspensive than some other gyms, but there is a lot of things offered here you won't get at other places.

I would recommend giving this place a shot

Me and my wife were visiting Ohana in Hilo so we needed a place to drop in for a day and not many gyms to choose from in Hilo but nothing but aloha at this gym. All good equipment, nice free-weights, place to warm up/stretch, and everything worked great and was clean. Plus, Adam Kobiyashi took care of us to the 💯’s!🤙🏾Definitely be back here next time we come visit!

I was racked with sciatic pain, so the gym was my last resort. I was lucky to have Clarence Pestano as my trainer. His personal attention and advice cured the back pain almost immediately. Clarence specializes in training for seniors (I am 81). He targets parts of the body to alleviate pain. He is knowledgable about diet, sleep, work out habits and routines that contributed to total health. I credit Clarence on my new lease on life and can give him my highest recommendation.

Be careful, they write off money from my card for services in the club with payment at the club, during the days when I was in New York, I called and wrote letters for more than a week, no one ever called back, and they continue to write off money from my card. I have been a member of a number of gyms over the years and UFC is well equipped with new machines, weights, etc. The music could be less urban and lower in volume. The biggest attraction for me has been working out with Clarence Pestano JR a personal trainer. He's amazing to work with and I have benefitted greatly! Worth more stars!

The gym is new, clean, and very well equipped... however, this review really has to do with my trainer, Clarence Pestano Jr. If there were six stars available, he would rate them for sure. I've been around a bit and have had a small host of trainers... but Clarence is a standout. Friendly... focused (on you)... encouraging and extraordinarily knowledgeable about his craft... what's not to like..?🙂

Too laud with awful music. Showed up for appointment he said he would be waiting for me at the front door but I had to wait 20 mins. Not cash friendly. Have to be digitally plugged in to use benefits of the gym. I'm on disability, this is okay but manager wouldn't wave any hidden fees.
I was just a number not a person though. I'm choosing one of the older, smaller, cheaper local gyms with classes by Target.
I gave two stars because the staff though unprofessional, are friendly. I did like my trainer anyway I was to meet with.

Came for vacation to hilo and joined for a week. $50 for the week. The gym isn't big and they don't have lots of equipment, but space seems limited on the island so I dont think this is anything that could be a negative. Has what you need and it's clean and the staff is helpful.

I came here as a visiting Bluebelt. The people are extremely kind from the reception, over the people training and Kim as the head coach and black belt. I found the level of Jiu Jitsu and the kindness with which I was received outstanding. I’d love to come back and train here again.

The music is so loud it violates county and state code and OSHA. It’s out of control. In the bathroom I measured 75dB the other day. It’s enough to cause damage to ears especially to the workers but even if you’re there for an hour that’s a lot of exposure to loud sound. It’s impossible to listen to your own music on your headset unless you turn it up to drown it out. It’s out of control. The department of health needs to be notified.

This place is nice but is very crowded taken by a group of teenagers. Some are not working out some are filming themselves doing the deadlift. Also sat on the machine with their phones and talking stories. DISAPPOINTING!!!
I chose this gym because has air conditioning that's the good thing about it and a sauna too is nice. I am champion membership their one on one coach is not that big deal I could easily do it by myself. I tried one on one I like it that was my first try. I bought a second time one on one session I hope they teach the working out that I never tried before. They teach me that I could easily do it by myself. They should work on their client time not their time availability. Thinking of going back to my old gym soon.

I was so excited for this gym to open, from the outside it seems huge! I am happy to have access to a sauna and it’s a very nice facility. I hope to see some improvements. There is a bunch of nice new equipment but it feels tiny and overcrowded. Obviously, that’s not their fault just a huge success but changes can be a made going forward to accommodate. I have tried to come at all different times of day and it’s always packed. The free weight area especially needs expanding, there are only two benches that lay down completely and two that permanently sit up. I think this gym would benefit from expanding the free weight area to the turf/ rowing machine area that seem largely unused. I hope they plan to expand in the future to keep up with the demand. I second the other reviews that having to walk across the gym to get to the 2-3 rag/spray bottles of cleaner is annoying. I also find it strange that there are tons of teenagers in big groups taking up space and not all working out. I’m happy they are establishing good habits but the gym is a place for working out and the mall is a good place for mingling. Maybe having adult only hours would help.

Definitely need more cleaning spray and cleaning towels available, I also noticed a lack of them.
Parking during peak hours is horrible, there are simply just not enough spaces leaving people to park illegally.
The gym itself is fine. Probably the best one in hilo. The range of classes is still small but I would assume it will be growing with more business and more staff. The yoga guy Max is great. But you do have to bring your own mat FYI.
The place was overrun by teens the past few times I went. Which is fine I guess at least they’re doing healthy things but they tend to congregate and make out by the equipment quite a bit. Also kept interrupting the class by walking in the room to grab some equipment from inside which I thought was just odd. Not the gyms fault on that one though.
I really would give 3.5 stars if it were an option. I think it’s a nice place and fulfills my needs for a gym. But there’s definitely some areas of improvement!
