Thank you so much 🏖️✨

I had a great morning yoga session with Dennis. He's a very experienced teacher. Although I've been doing yoga for many years, Dennis introduced me to some new ways to do yoga (lots of work with the strap) and used the beach/sand to enhance the standing postures. A great morning looking out at the ocean and moving my body.

Dennis was nice! He ran late but made the time up. I enjoyed the class. Definitely focused on mobility and got a wonderful stretch on the beach.

Dennis class is amazing. It’s not a regular Vinyasa class. He takes requests and tailors the exercises to what the group needs. His exercises are inventive. I have a lingering pain on my shoulder from time to time. It would disappear every time I take his class! The class size is small so you get individual attention. I have taken both his in studio and beach yoga classes. They were never the same but all good.

In response to your comment: Dennis, the class was listed as beginner friendly, which is why I chose it. While the description may mention props and movements, it doesn’t reflect the actual difficulty level I experienced as someone who is truly a beginner. What feels like a simple adjustment for you was not accessible or comfortable for me.
You arrived late, the class did not begin until significantly after the scheduled time, and there was no introduction or welcome. That in itself set an uncomfortable tone before the movement even began.
During the class, I did not feel supported or guided in a way that beginners typically need. While you may have been “observing,” I did not feel like I was receiving instruction, encouragement, or modifications that would have made the class more accessible. Typically, yoga classes begin with breath work and gentle movements to warm up the body before attempting more challenging poses. Because of the late start and lack of structure, that did not happen here.
Additionally, comments such as asking if I “read” or if I “listen” come across as condescending rather than respectful. Between that tone and the lack of punctuality, it felt clear that my time and presence as a student were not valued. I did read the description and attended expecting a beginner friendly class. Telling someone—whether they are a beginner or even a 70–80 year old student—to roll backwards on a ball onto their head and shoulders is not standard beginner practice. I was listening, and I did make adjustments where possible, but your remarks only made the environment more uncomfortable and unpleasant.
Ultimately, I left because I did not feel safe, comfortable, or like this was an environment for a beginner to learn. I feel incredibly disrespected and my review reflects that honest experience.

Class started 30 minutes late. The instructor was 15 minutes late. The class is listed as beginner, friendly, and certainly was not. I was the only person there and the instructor offered no help to me. I do not understand why if I’m the only student why the instructor wouldn’t have tailored to my needs. Horrible experience overall.

My morning beach yoga class was quite a unique experience. Practicing with my feet in the soft, warm sand, surrounded by the soothing sound of ocean waves and birds singing, created an incredibly relaxing atmosphere. The super fresh air was amazing with every breath, boosting that sense of calm and connection with nature.
The instructor, Dennis, was exceptional--his calm and approachable vibe made everyone feel comfortable. He guided the class smoothly, speaking both English and Japanese to ensure clear communication for all participants. This serene and rejuvenating session was a perfect blend of nature and mindfulness, leaving me refreshed and uplifted.

I did the 7am beach yoga with Dennis & it was great! There were only 5 other women in the class so that was nice. We pretty much had the beach to ourselves as it was early & it had rained a bit the night before so there was a beautiful rainbow in the distance. Dennis was a great instructor, he arrived on his bicycle with the equipment for class. He translated in English & Japanese which was really cool. The class itself felt like a mix of yoga, barre & tai chi - It was great & I got a great stretch from it. It was the perfect way to start the day!

I had a great 8:30 am morning yoga session with Dennis. It ended up being a private and that was great. We did a lot of great stretches, strength and some fun yoga tricks all with the strap. It was so nice to be on the beach seeing diamond head in the background and hearing the waves. I would definitely come back and even add a studio class to my schedule. :)

I participated in the sunrise yoga session they hold every Tuesdays and Thursdays and had an amazing experience! I went with my mom who wasn’t experienced at all and still we both were able to relax our bodies and minds on the Waikiki beach. It’s also great that the class is free and does not require a reservation. We woke and gauged how we were feeling and went! The yoga we did was quite different from what I’m used to since we used ropes and also it required a partner at most times. Super glad I got to experience a new type of yoga.

I throughly enjoyed myself during this morning's beach session with Dennis Miller as our instructor! Though I honestly wouldn't have mind paying the cost, this session is currently free. So, all the more reason to sign up while it lasts!
To be completely transparent, sure, Dennis did arrive a little bit (emphasis on 'a little bit') late, but that's honestly not that big of a deal in my opinion. I mean it's 7am in a busy touristy city and the guy is biking to the meeting location with the equipment we'd be using - I say cut him some slack. Plus, he was able to provide an answer when I called to ask about his ETA and class, which was amazing, still went on for the entirety of the promised hour. The only reason I'm even mentioning this at the very beginning is so going forward, people can be aware and decide for themselves whether that would be an issue. In other words, if you're a stickler about punctuality (even if it's just a tiny bit of tardiness), I would suggest saving everyone, Dennis and yourself included, the trouble, time, and negative energy.
But if you're up for something different and you're open-minded, you should totally sign up for one of his classes! As you can see in the photo (which Dennis took and airdropped to all of us at the end), this type of yoga is not your typical run-of-the-mill yoga. But, that doesn't make it any less yoga. It's still a workout and it's still good for your body. I thought it was a great blend of a full-body workout and stretching without over doing it. After all, yoga is not just about balance and flexibility, it is also about stretching. Dennis did incorporate some of the traditional yoga poses into his style. He also attempted to add a couple of challenging poses, but noted if anyone was having trouble and quickly reworked his routine. Also, something to note - he did mention that he sometimes switches up the style depending on the class, so if you need more specifics, I'd recommended calling beforehand.
Like the other reviews have mentioned, he does switch between Japanese (to cater to the primary Japanese speakers) and English during the class, which I thought was really cool. I didn't have trouble following along with him at all, even during his Japanese instructions which he also said in English before / after. He also gave individual adjustment tips throughout the session to make sure everyone was comfortable, safe, and could follow along correctly.
Lastly, here are some technical tips to help you navigate:
The meeting spot for beach yoga is at the 'Surfer on a Wave' Statue. It is across from Honolulu Zoo. Both of these bits of information, as well as a photo of the statue, are included in the confirmation email sent after booking. If you're walking or taking the bus there, then you probably won't have any trouble finding it.
However, if you're driving, I would recommend putting Queen's Surf Beach into your maps. It'll lead you to parking and you'll be within walking distance of the statue - just walk towards Honolulu Zoo after you park and it'll be on the left-side of the sidewalk. There is free parking along Kalakaua Ave, which is where Queen's Surf Beach is. It does fill up quickly, but around this time, you have a higher chance of snagging a spot. Just note that this area is a great place for swimming, surfing, picnicking, running, walking the dog, etc. so there'll already be a good amount of people here.

I highly recommend trying SUP Yoga led by Dennis as part of your Waikiki experience. I did 3 sessions this week so was able to see how he adapted to the variables at hand on busy Waikiki to make sure people at all levels were accommodated. Dennis has a clever system for anchoring the boards well protected in the lagoon, so in the event you fall off like I did its safe and refreshing to do so. Waikiki is an active place, if you are looking for a quiet zen flow class you likely need to head indoors, but I left each SUP session with a good mix of stretching, strength, and balance work that set me up well for other activities around the island. Be sure to leave a full 2 hours for your class experience as paddling and setting up the boards takes some time.

SUP yoga was a unique experience that I’m glad I had, especially since I was able to do the class for free with a Classpass free trial. However, I think some of the instructions on Classpass need to be updated. We were told to come early but ended up waiting over half an hour for the instructor, and the description said the paddle boards were going to be set up by the time we arrived, which was not the case and took some time. Seems like if the instructor is unable to meet that timeline the description should be changed. He is nice and supportive, hope these issues can be cleared up!

Unfortunately this was probably the worst yoga classes I have ever taken. It was paddle board yoga on the beach. Showed up early (which I was told to do) but instructor was late. Took forever to set up and what was suppose to be a 90 min experience was 2 hours and 15 minutes. I have taken a lot of yoga classes and this was mostly stretching and hardly any yoga poses were done. I would not recommend. Yoga teacher was a nice guy, but this was a real disorganized, time sucking non enjoyable experience. The only part that was nice was paddling on the board for a bit in the ocean and the friends I made while there.

I actually didn’t get to do SUP yoga with them today. My child was sick, our morning was rough and we had to bring our child to the doctor right away. It was so hectic that I didn’t get the chance to let them know.
Their staff called me and told me that they brought my board with them to the beach. I should’ve let them know and I feel bad about it. I can hear that the staff was not very happy that I didn’t showed up and brought my board all the way there but he was very professional to put his feeling away. He still able to say things like, “I’m sorry that your child is sick. I hope you have a good day today!” I’m sure they are amazing people who offers wonderful experience. One day when I come back to Honolulu, I have to take their class again and actually make it. Recommending this place to everyone because of their staff’s good manner.

It’s my first time doing puddle yoga and I can say for sure this experience is worth to try! I will never forget it!
However, the day I did it - there were a lot of waves (didn’t effect us much as a group because - we were separated from them by special stone partition). But constantly watching to the horizon (while doing exercises) that is full of waves made me super dizzy ( never had seasick before) by the end of class. Therefore, it would be great if instructor could postpone the class for the next day when the weather conditions would be better. As well as it would be better if this class would start earlier than 9:30 as there are already a lot of people on the beach and it is hard to meditate. Also, it would be nice if instructor had a microphone where he could speak as due to noise coming from sea and people, it was hard for me to hear him. Overall, I enjoyed this experience. It was very fresh and unique!
