The Fitness Center is a great place for a good workout. There are free weights, weight machines, cardio machines, and extra items that can be checked out at the front desk.

This is a good gym for all levels of fitness enthusiasts. There is a variety of machines for just about every muscle group. There is also a long mat people can use for various body weight exercises or for stretching. I've enjoyed being able to attend this gym regularly as there are times when it isn't too busy. The staff there were also kind and have been ready to assist each time I've had questions.

It’s a good gym. Lots of equipment, exclusive to the students. You do need to wear a BYUI shirt or a sweat shirt. Most exercise pants are fine, depending on who’s working. I’ve heard of people getting busted for wearing pants with stripes, but other people are fine to wear pajama pants, so idk. Overall I’ve never had issues and as long as I go when it’s not busy I have no issue using what I need.
Also, for climbers, I think they have either a hang board or a crimp board in the way back, I forgot which it was, I didn’t use it, but if you want to improve climbing muscles but can’t afford a rock gym membership, this gym does have some stuff available for you to build those muscles.

For the most part I really like coming here. However, the same machines are always broken and are rarely usable. The “out of service” sign will stay on there for days on end, be taken off for a day or two, and then be right back on for another several days. A majority of the machines are also missing the 5 lbs increment pin.

I wore my byui t shirt with the word capstone on it because it looks exactly the same as the byui gym clothes. I didn’t notice the word capstone until I came in and they did not let me in. It was so weird because literally the guy who came in before me wore a light blue hoodie and there were other guys wearing beige and pink t-shirt inside the gym.

There are too many students during the semesters, and they're closed during holidays. Machines are often broken (due to misuse or lack of control from students) and sometimes take several weeks to repair. TVs are often frozen, lagging, or inopperable. It is nice to go in for free for both my wife and I, though parking is limited and getting a pass is difficult (spouses can not get a parking pass near the center).
Tips for coming here:
1. Don't waste money buying gym clothing unless you like shorts and t-shirts (which cost you $50 a pair). Instead, wear approved sweatpants and a hoodie (which are allowed). Even pajamas qualify for appropriate wear, so take advantage and save some money.
2. Parking is ticketed from 7am-5pm on weekdays. So, going in the morning or after 5 pm (and before 11 pm when they close) is the best way to not have to buy a parking pass and still work out for free.
3. Best times to work out (based on personal experience):
Weekdays= Opening-4pm & 9pm-close
Weekends= Almost anytime, though evenings are typically busier (4pm-8pm)
4. Call in to see if hours vary for holidays or breaks. Many times, Google maps and the website don't reflect the actual hours of the fitness center. I've found that calling ahead to ask about hours has been helpful in saving me the drive. If they don't answer, they probably aren't open.
I'd prefer to work out at Planet Fitness or another gym if I didn't spend all of my money on college.

Well, it’s a fine gym in terms of equipment, Their hours are simply unreliable. They are terrible at posting an accurate schedule. So many times, I’ve shown up and it’s been closed for some random reason that wasn’t posted anywhere. Very disrespectful of peoples time. One star.

The gym itself isn’t bad, but the pool is frequently closed without any notice and you can only go for open swim at 5am…so it sucks when you find out that the pool is closed once you get there. Also, they never tell you WHY the pool is closed…but I don’t know if I want to know tbh.

The gym here has been renovated for what I'm not sure but it looks nice and I like it as a student. However, as a minority it would be great to show some inclusion representation on the high walls instead of the random students seemingly all the same. I see a variety of ethnicity in the gym Eg. A native looking Asian, Latino, African, wheelchair bound etc. But on the wall I don't see that. All 5 pics or more up and not one was as mentioned above 🙄 I get that it was not intentional but it sends a statement that's not what we want or meant to stand for 😌 so I hope someone does something about it.

Great gym! Free (for current students), and has a lot of equipment. Big enough to where you can work out comfortably with space. There's a variety of equipment for most (if not all) activities. There are engaging events and help if you need it. You do need workout clothes though, I personally have a shirt from the BYUI store, and black workout pants from Walmart, make sure to check the dress-code before heading over :)

Here's the thing, this gym has almost everything that you could expect to find in a gym. Well except for the locker rooms which have been under construction for the better part of a year.
With that being said, you should expect equipment that works so that's nothing to write home about. What I severely dislike is that you have to wear the low quality, overpriced BYUI gym clothes. These clothes are probably worse quality than Walmart exercise clothes but are double the price.
I understand the need for a dress code and the easiest way to enforce said dress code is to have a "uniform". That's fine but just sell the clothes at cost if you're going to require them.
The other issue that really bothers me is that the gym is open to staff and students, as well as their respective spouses. However, the spouses are also required to come clean-shaven.
For many men, they get severe skin irritations when they shave. If you're a student you can go get a shaving exemption card, allowing you to have a beard. However, if you're a spouse you don't have this ability. They tell you that since you have an I-card you have to follow the dress and grooming standards. But since you're not a student you are not eligible to obtain a "beard card".
This double standard is frustrating, to say the least. Especially since the church has said in their general handbook that, "Members and leaders should not judge others based on dress and appearance. They should love all people, as the Savior commanded (see Matthew 22:39; John 13:34–35). All should be welcomed at Church meetings and activities (see 38.1.1)."
The handbook also goes on to say that no one should be turned away from sacrament meetings or even the temple for their appearance, so why is the school telling people to leave if they have stubble on their face.

I’m grateful for a free gym and a university that offers tuition at a very low rate. That being said the dress code at the gym is obviously in place for a reason. I get it and I follow it. My understanding is that it ensures modesty while working out. But when me or my husband are asked to leave because we don’t have the BYUI logo on our blue shorts it just feels a little too nitpicking. We have come in perfectly modest clothes and ones very identical to the required uniform… just no logo on the shorts. I just don’t understand who or what I’m hurting by not wearing the BYUI approved shorts. Oh, but I forgot if I wear black sweat pants it’s fine if it doesn’t have to have the logo. I’m just hoping by this review that those who make the rules and those students who run everything on campus will think more about the spirit of law rather than just the letter of the law. Because right now it doesn’t feel like it’s about being modest it feels more like I’m just trying to be controlled.
*For reference these are the shorts compared to the BYUI required ones.

Good gym for most basic needs. There is also some areas for free weights, power lifting, deadlifts, squats, and all that good jazz. Need to be a student or faculty to use. I think community members can use, but there are some rules that need to be followed if that's the case. Some workers are more strict about rules than others. Can be really stingy sometimes.

Nice gym. Lots of equipment. Has pretty much everything somebody needs no matter the skill level.
Worst part overall is how strict and ridiculous the dress code is, which is hardly even a dress code. It doesn’t matter if what you wear is modest, if it’s not their branded shorts, jacket, or shirts, it’s not allowed. It’s pretty clear that this is true solely on the fact that people can wear these items as high or tight as possible, but since it has “BYU-I” on it, it’s allowed.
Oh, the shirts and shorts are, if i remember correctly, $20 a piece.

It's a great gym with lots of equipment but as far as gyms go, it's an inconvenience.
Of course, you have to be a student or faculty member, which is understandable. The part that is an inconvenience is that you have to wear the byui clothes. Which is a real pain because if you workout a lot you have to empty your pockets, as a college student without a full time job, by buying multiple pairs, rather than using the clothes you have. There can be a dream code without specific clothing.
Other than that the gym is really nice. Lots of equipment and weights. The equipment is nice and in good shape too.

This place during the regular year is great. The hours are good and it’s a large gym. My only complaints now are that you can only go for 30-minutes at a time and must wear a mask. I get the rules with covid however trying to work out with a mark on can be quite uncomfortable and a little dangerous. The dress code kind of sucks as the only shorts they allow are long baggy basketball shorts that get in the way. Black leggings is ok. They kick you out if you aren’t dressed according to the rules. Must be a byui student or a spouse of a byui student to go in. Great free facility but I decided to pay for a community gym to avoid all the strict rules and regulations.
