Ahimsa creates a sanctuary. The studio is serene the Props are provided. The asanas and opportunities to strengthen in forearm plank. Julie S.βs Use of vocal guidance was sublime. She was poetic and lyrical and soothing as she guided us through the practice. Her voice cues were energetic, anatomical, physiological, and philosophical incorporating the limbs of yoga. Loved it!

Studio is calming and serene and so are all the beautiful instructors. Unfortunately the woman who does check in doing restorative yoga on Monday evening lacks that serenity.

My first time visiting the studio for a sound meditation and it was a nice experience. I checked in at the front desk and told the receptionist it was my first time there. She welcomed me and was nice enough to give me a tour. The space is clean. Jay was a great sound meditation instructor! I loved his intro/bio before class begun. You can tell heβs funny, grounded and down to earth. I live far from the studio but I would come back.

2025 update: I wish I could give Ahimsa in Oak Park a million stars. I've been attending classes through several life transitions in the past year, and no matter what's going on outside of the studio, I am able to breathe deeply and be fully present during class.
The studio is clean and thoughtfully laid out. It is a very comfortable place to be, with enough props to accommodate everyone's needs. The staff are always welcoming, and the studio is quiet and peaceful. There is a real sense of community at this studio which I really love and appreciate.
One of my favorite classes is Tiffany's Gentle with Sound Healing class on Tuesdays, so I was THRILLED when a Restorative with Scents and Sounds class taught by Tiffany was added on Fridays. Her classes are a real treat, and I highly recommend trying one or both!

I joined Ahimsa near the end of my pregnancy to keep my body moving. I had no prior yoga experience or knowledge, so I was not prepared for the amazing physical and mental impact it would have on me. Every instructor, regardless of the type of class I was in, was incredibly welcoming and helpful when I needed to make adjustments due to my pregnancy. I always felt calm and at home at Ahimsa. The single thing I looked forward to the most postpartum was returning to Ahimsa!
I was nervous to return, but my worries proved unfounded when I was welcomed back with open arms and found the same sense of calm and community in class. You canβt go wrong with any instructor or class type!
I highly recommend Ahimsa for your practice, whether youβre experienced or a beginner. I would like to shout out Tiffany and her Gentle with Sound Healing class, as it is truly transformative and she is so very welcoming to all.

Registration for the event I attended was simple, and the instructions were clear. Upon arrival, I was promptly greeted by a joyful soul who kindly introduced me to the class instructor and then gave me a tour of the beautiful studio. The space itself is clean, spacious, and has a warm, welcoming ambiance. The Sound Bath was deeply soothing, allowing me and my nervous system to fully reset. I would wholeheartedly recommend this studio to anyone thinking about trying it out.

I'm 48 and have never attended a yoga class. I have a larger body and have always been anxious that I wouldn't fit in. I came to a restorative yoga class with a friend who has been encouraging me for weeks to go with her. I'm so glad I did and I wish I hadn't waited so long! Thank for your being so welcoming, even letting me borrow a mat. The class was incredible and the instructor was supportive and welcoming. I cannot wait to come back.

From the moment I entered AHIMSA Yoga Studio, I felt enveloped in a warm embrace of serenity and inspiration. The atmosphere is nothing short of magical, a harmonious blend of soft lighting, calming scents, and the gentle sounds of nature that instantly transport you to a place of peace and mindfulness. Each corner of the studio reflects a commitment to creating a nurturing space where everyone can explore their own journey.
The diverse array of classes offered is a testament to the thoughtfulness and creativity of the amazing teachers. Each instructor brings their unique energy and expertise, guiding us through a rich tapestry of poses that challenge the body while soothing the soul. Whether it's the invigorating flow of Vinyasa, the grounding nature of Hatha, or the restorative embrace of Yin, there is something for every practitioner, regardless of experience level.
What truly sets AHIMSA apart is the way each teacher fosters a sense of community and belonging. They encourage us to listen to our bodies, to honor our individual paths, and to connect with our breath in a profoundly meaningful way. Their passion for yoga radiates in every class, making each session not just a workout, but a transformative experience.
The thoughtful attention to detail in the studioβ from the beautiful vases that adorn the space, each one telling its own story, to the carefully chosen playlists that accompany our practiceβenhances the overall experience, allowing us to immerse ourselves fully in the moment.
In essence, AHIMSA Yoga Studio is a sanctuary for the mind, body, and spirit. It is a place where I have found not only strength and flexibility but also deep connections with myself and others. I am endlessly grateful for the incredible teachers and the beautiful community they have cultivated. I wholeheartedly recommend AHIMSA to anyone seeking a truly special yoga experience.

I really enjoy my yoga experience at Ahimsa studio. The place is clean and sanitized. The introductory is personalized and you can inquire about classes to fit your needs. The instructors are all kind, professional, and very helpful whether you are a beginner or experienced. The space is ideal and not over crowded which is perfect for me. The membership cost is very reasonable however I wish some of the classes were recorded for those of us who can't access classes that are available only at certain times and on certain days.

I've been going here for years. There's a variety of classes and teachers, plenty of class times to choose from, props to use if you don't have your own, a good quality floor, and it smells good. I've tried a few other yoga studios, and none are as good as this one. They do NOT offer hot yoga, so if that's your jam look somewhere else. But if you're looking for a genuine, old-school, high-quality, not-too-hippie but not-too-mainstream yoga experience, this is the place for you.

I thoroughly enjoyed my sound meditation experience at The Ahimsa School of Sound Healing. The meditation facilitator utilized a variety of instruments in including gongs, chimes, crystal singing bottles, and rattles. I left feeling completely relaxed and rejuvenated. After the meditation I spent time in their instrument store trying out bowls, flutes, chimes, and more. I was excited to hear that they even offered a class in which you are taught about crystal singing bowls, frequency, entrainment, and how to utilize intention. I highly recommend checking out this studio.

it has taken me way too long to write this review. i've been a lover of ahimsa since january 2012 when i took my very first yoga class with chuck. i've been emotionally, spiritually and physically hooked ever since. aside from chuck being THE BEST for showing me the ropes, i have had incredible instructors throughout my entire journey. some favorites have come and gone, but i have learned the most from lauren and kim w. alignment, confidence, contentment and humor are just a few of the things you can expect in each of their classes. during class and when i leave, i like to know that iβve not only challenged my body, but have tapped into my spiritual and mental health as well. with consistent practice, my stress and anxiety are calm and i am the best version of myself. ahimsaβs studio is SO SO comfortable and welcoming. i feel like i have a full 360 practice at ahimsa where iβm not just going through the motions, but iβm feeling everything and thriving as my true self. so THANK YOU kelly, chuck, carol, mason and everyone that makes this community feel like absolute home!

She has an easy to follow teaching style, and I felt relaxed and energized at the end of my first class. I got an email after taking classes to ask if I had any questions, and to make sure I was happy with the classes I had taken, which I thought was a really nice touch. I've been taking "Gentle, Restorative Yoga" at Ahimsa for several years. Kim, my teacher, always manages to have us do something that is exactly right for me on that particular day. She gently encourages you to try to do things that seem impossible at first. There's always variety in any given class. When I had physical therapy following a hip replacement some months ago, I told my therapist some things Kim has us do, and he said he was adding them to his therapy! I like several things! Only been there twice so far, so I'm new. I like the number of classes offered, ESPECIALLY that you have early morning clsses (6 and 8 am). As a person with a job with certain hours, it's an awesome feature. A lot of yoga studios only have classes that start at 9:30 and go into the evenings. Also like the studio - clean, bright, lots of cool ads/flyers, and the clientele are diverse in age, which I appreciate. Thanks for asking!

I have been looking for a studio to join for the long-term. I was getting sick of jumping around town to whichever studio was having the best monthly offer. I am glad I found Ahimsa. Everything about the place is great. The space is warm and welcoming. The teachers are friendly and helpful. The teachers will provide adjustments, and always remembers your name. Classes are offered throughout the day, making it possible to find one that works. Sometimes I like to go before work and sometimes after work. Their points program is also amazing! The cost of the monthly membership is lower than most studios, and you get more for your money! I would recommend this studio to all yogis, beginners and advanced.

Several teachers that I'm fortunate to study with at Ahimsa have distinct styles, enhancing their classes with personal, imaginative touches. Kim Wade, in Restorative, is an energizing prescence and always adds a fresh angle. Jackie Huxel (Beginner) is thoughtful, consistent, and brings a poetic spiritual element to her presentation. Audrey Gerdt is a particularly conscientious and positive young force who also brings an interesting variety to her classes.

IΒ΄ve lived in the area 2 months, and have attended about 30 classes at Ahimsa. It is a great yoga studio and a wonderful community center, really. I enjoyed all of the classes IΒ΄ve taken, but especially appreciate the late night classes that Lilamayi teaches (Anusara) and DaleΒ΄s 6AM classes are fantastic also. Check out this studio and some of their workshops because I bet once you try them, you will not want to move or leave (this is what happened to me!)

Words cannot describe the experience I've had going to Ahimsa. I started practicing yoga at Ahimsa in August 2014. I was nervous. I entered the studio and was treated with nothing but respect. While every teacher has his or her own style, they all have one thing in common...they welcome you, ask you if you have any injuries, ask if you have any questions, and treat you with respect. This goes without saying...respect. It doesn't matter where you are at in your practice or your physical size. The culture is warm and accepting. I call Ahimsa my second home and attend classes regularly. Because of Ahimsa, yoga has become a regular part of my life.

Yoga instructors are very knowledgeable and personable. I especially enjoy Freya Smith's and Colleen Taylor's classes. I haven't yet had the chance to try classes with all the instructors, but I'm sure all the others are just as wonderful.

I'm new to Ahimsa...have been a handful of times, to restorative yoga classes/events. I love how easy it is to access schedules and sign up for things online; the teachers have been so welcoming and warm; there's a good availability of the class that I want; and I am completely hooked on the practice of restorative yoga!

The staff at Ahimsa are well qualified, friendly and down to earth. A range of classes are available at convenient times. Even though I don't live by anymore, I go to several classes whenever I'm in town. Great for people new to yoga or advanced levels!

The initial monthly fee of $40 makes this studio practically a zero risk to check out. I took nearly 20 classes during my first month and found all of the teachers to be very knowledgeable and well trained. Most of the classes that I have taken have been vigorous but safe because props are always available and options for using props are always presented. The studio is well maintained and operated. Everyone here has been very nice. Parking near the studio is not a problem.

Danielle is probably the best yoga instructor I have ever had the pleasure of taking class from. I have been practicing yoga since 1989 & I love ALL her classes & gongings. The restorative yoga with scents & sounds was just what I needed after a heavy workout. Danielle is an amazing instructor!
The studio has amazing energy and is a great place to practice yoga, have a gong bath or attend a workshop!

Ahimsa is a great space with excellent teachers. My personal favorite is Cass Justine who teachers a vigorous vinyasa flow class. My only issue with Ahimsa is that they need to expand the types of class cards/plans they offer. I travel often for work and neither 10 class card nor monthly memberships work for me very well. I hope they add a weekly membership or even a 5 class card.
