Big improvements to staff. They are doing a much better job of taking care of the equipment and keeping everything clean! The only complaint I’d say is the general manager is always hard to get in contact with. It would help if there was a phone number to text/call or an email available somewhere for members to see. While there is a general AF Mount prospect email no one ever responds to it.

I would never leave a bad review but I’m actually very annoyed with the lack of communication from this location. When I first signed up I was supposed to get a free summer and continued to get charged even when I called to tell them. When I could get ahold of them they would assure me that it wouldn’t happen and I would get my money back and I never would. Then it continued and they assured me it would just be applied in credit and never was… I had to try to contact for over a month to get it resolved. Then weird charges were being charged and I emailed about it and it took forever to get an answer and refund. Now I’ve been calling and emailing for 10 and no answer, I’m trying to cancel my account because I’m moving far and I call no answer. I email no answer. I’m being charged (again) for an account that I’ve spent 10 days trying to cancel. My work hours don’t allow me to go when they are there and I’m sure I’m not the only one. They should answer their calls and emails faster than 10 days…. Truly would never recommend this gym. The service sucks and this put a bad taste in my mouth from ever joining another anytime fitness.

This is an adequate gym that offers very low crowds during non-peak hours but suffers from a lack of space and therefore diversity of equipment.

Also I have been coming here for about 3 years and during that time there has been a noticeable decline in the quality of the gym. A few key points:

1. We used to be given white towels to wipe down machines. They have since switched to paper towels. These don't do nearly as good a job of wiping down equipment and are useless for wiping away sweat.

2. There used to be a large digital clock near the dumbbell rack that was useful for timing between sets. At some point this clock broke and even though management said they would replace it they never did. My new gym has a similar large clock mounted on the wall and I find it much easier to keep pace with myself with this tool.

3. The TV situation is frankly a joke. I used to enjoy coming in here and catching Sunday NFL games but now the staff does not let you change the channel anymore. Two of the three TV"s simply have the Chive channel on 24/7 and it's very repetitive.

The last TV has been left in a setup menu for months. All it displays is a streaming home page asking for user intervention and no one has bothered to complete the setup so the TV can be used. At this point it's useless as the home page image is most certainly burned into the screen.

The staff is friendly yet there is also frequent turnover which leads me to believe there isn't much job satisfaction for the position. I believe this is the reason for the decline in the quality of this gym.

I have since switched to the Planet Fitness five minutes down the road at Randhurst and it's a night and day difference in the quality of hardware and amenities - it's also less than half the price. Pretty easy decision for me.

12/1/2023: Came back to location since its close to work. Had been before under different membership a couple times. Equipment still great and location not bad. Staff needs to have refresher on Active & Fit members and how to handle their membership. In addition, if i had know about the security fob fee prior to paying Active and fit online, I would have set my membership up at another gym. Had a tour and Was set up in office and it wasn't mentioned until I had driven away and recontacted via phone. The location is close to work so I'll keep it but the service experience prior to me now being set up may merit me reevaluating the membership once it's nicer out. Left Anytime Fitness before only because the pandemic made sure that it pushed me to a larger gym chain. I want to be back but in some capacity but not if it's going to come with situations similar to what you'd find at Xsport Fitness.

Years ago: Really think the towel service is worth coming here. If they offered shower gel as well this would be 5 star service, but it's a great start.

Beware of this place. I really try not to give bad reviews, but this place needs it. The customer service is pathetic, no replies to calls and the number listed on the voicemail is of an employee that no longer works there. Finally a family member, went in with the pretence of starting a membership and got the office staff luckily I went in right after and cancelled my membership that very day and put stop payments from the bank account. Now I am getting email from ABC financial who refused to help me with cancelling my membership, saying I am overdue on my payment, no thank you! I would tread cautiously while doing business here. If you were good to your customers this would not be the case, but your under hand tactics of getting customers to pay for your shoddy service is not good and should not be rewarded.

They do not accept Active & Fit at this location. The Active & Fit website still has the Anytime Fitness - Mount Prospect listed. The suggestion was to sign up through Anytime directly, but I do not want to be stuck in a 1 or 2 year contract. This happened to me 5+ years ago at this location. I wanted to sign up through my insurance program, but they convinced me not to and to sign up with them. I did and was stuck in a contract for 2 years. I signed a year contract with this location from December 2021 to December 2022 and after my contract ended they continued to charge me without my authorization for 4 months. When I called to cancel my membership, the girl just laughed and said there’s nothing she can do for me. So I had to call my bank and block them as a merchant to prevent future automatic withdrawals from my account. Definitely NOT worth the headache. Also train your staff better, the girl I spoke with was super unprofessional, and quite frankly, aren’t you embarrassed to have these kinds of people as the face of your business?

I was back in the area for the past couple of months and decided to try out Anytime fitness. I was scared at first to try it due to past management issues. But seeing the new management sign, I decided to try it out. Now, this place has really turned around! Incredible how so much has been done! The new manager, Ray, is incredibly supportive, communicative and understanding. Moreover, the staff here are always willing to help you out if you are feeling uncomfortable or just looking to understand the proper forms or even how to use the equipment. I have tried out multiple gyms in the past from Planet Fitness to Crunch and the community center gym. But none have compared to Anytime Fitness. Not only do you get access to amazing array of equipment but also an incredibly supportive staff team. This gym is perfect.

I cannot recommend Anytime Fitness highly enough. The staff here are so knowledgeable and supportive. I needed a gym that was 24 hours. This place feels like home away from home. Never been more comfortable signing up. Ray (The Manager) was upfront with the application and didn't leave anything out. I have been going to this gym for a while and recently noticed a lot of change here. It was okay before, but sadly I just went there cause it’s close to home and convenient. I will say though, ever since Ray has been managing it’s a lot nicer and cleaner. Noticed my workouts are longer and more enjoyable. I have been to plenty of gyms and Anytime Fitness surpasses all of them! Period. First, the gym itself is gorgeous, has lots of machines, and always clean. As I read the reviews, I was very hesitant to try this place out. But being very convenient for me, I decided to stop by and was greeted by Ray. I was informed that they’re under new ownership and new machines are going to be added. As someone trying to get back into working out, I was treated as if I was an every day regular. I like the fact that I could come anytime of the day and workout, not having to worry about time restrictions. They even have a massage bed, and after a long workout of cardio, it just hits the spot. Machines and areas always look to be clean and I’ve seen staff wiping down often. I’ve been coming since the beginning of January and it’s been almost four months now, and I can definitely say I feel most comfortable at this gym.

Absolutely the worst experience. Cancelled my membership months ago and just got charged again. Also had the worst time canceling my membership; at the time of canceling my membership they charged me a lump sum on months THEY forgot to change me for. Their customer service is pathetic; management was very unhelpful and never returned my call. I had to go into the office to try and cancel my membership and was told I had to make an appointment. I told them I tried calling multiple times to let them know I was looking to cancel my membership and the still would not help me at the time a came in.

I’ll always give 1 star to any place that messes with my money. Signed up for a week trial, $78 for 2 people and $70 deposits for 2 fobs. Not great but not the worst.

Returned the fobs on 7/1 (took a video of myself doing so because something didn’t feel right). Called 3 times since and left voicemails (all during staffed hours) and still haven’t heard back from anyone about when to expect my fob deposit back. Ended up having to dispute the charge through my bank.

If I could give 0 stars I would, this facility is not even worthy of one. My contract has been up for months, yet they have still been charging me. I've dealt with the Owner Joe or James looks like he goes by two names and he is total unprofessionalism. I tried calling for MONTHS and never got a call back left voicemails and wrote emails. Finally I reached out to their corporate office whom said they will try to get in contact with the owner and were very shocked that no one answers. Corporate employee calls and leaves them a voicemail and within 30 minutes boom I finally get a call back with an excuse of "I've never gotten a single phone call or vm from you" - I inform the owner of the situation and tell him I moved and have a gym facility in my apt complex instead of hearing me out on them EXTENDING MY CONTRACT WITHOUT MY APPROVAL for months. He was more concerned about trying to sell me on a cheaper rate to stay and give me "2 months free". After all is said and done I make an appointment to come in and sign my cancellation form (which I had to wait a few weeks for as there is NEVER any staff there) I commute all the way over there on my appointment date /time which was already inconvenient just to find no one there.. shocker right? Called multiple times and no answer nor a call back still 3 days later. I wake up to a random charge of $93 from them today (which makes no sense as my membership cost was $43/month) This place is a total SCAM. It's absolutely impossible to cancel and break away from them, save yourself the hassle and find a better gym in the area. The owner clearly has no idea how to run a business and is a total thief. Let's add in corporate couldn't cancel my membership on the owners behalf, which made it even harder. THIS PLACE IS A JOKE!!!

Very dishonest stuff and management. Total rip off. I wanted to cancel my membership after I saw my "trainer" on a 3rd day but the Danielle said it's too late and they cannot agree when it's clearly said in the agreement that you can do that without any reason during next 3 business day after you the day when you signed up for membership. Business days means Monday through Friday and I signed the agreement on Thursday evening which means the next 3 business days were on Friday, then Monday, Tuesday. I wanted to cancel the agreement on Sunday which technically was after 1 business days. The excuse: business days means when the club is open which is completely something else what Illinois law said! And this "trainer", Mike, first impresion - he barely can move due to his fake muscles and keep telling you how much he will push on you but the reality looks very simple- he stands with the phone and barely look at you.
Not recommended at all!!!
I found some much better options out there and I will be more than happy to give you some advise about the right club and the trainer. Goodluck everyone!

When I signed up I specifically told him that only for 3 Months. He clearly said there will be no automatic charge after 3 Months. Love love love AF- Mount Prospect. The owner and his staff are outstanding and will help with anything you need. They go out of their way to make sure your experience is nothing short of pleasant. The restrooms are kept clean, and the rest of the gym is always clean as well. The selection of equipment is amazing, and they have a studio room available for use too. I’ve been to many AF’s, and this is the only one that offers preworkouts, meals, shaker bottles, tanning lotions, T-shirt’s, proteins, and other merchandise, which makes it super convenient and ideal for on the go lifestyles. HIGHLY recommend joining here— you won’t regret it!

This gym is poorly managed and run. The manager of the gym is not up to par with his communication skills. He lacks basic etiquette.

The bathrooms have broken sinks. The owner is too cheap to fix them. The notes placed throughout the gym aren’t even in correct English grammar. Save yourself the headache and stick to other well known gym chains.

The equipment is cheap as well. The 25lb dumbbell I was using had a weight that was loose and fell off when I picked it up. The owner asked me to cover for the expense of a new one. Lol.

I did not even realize I was being pulled into a 2 year contract and now I am stuck for another year and a half.
I should have known the moment I went in to sign up to turn around and walk away.
At first, I wanted to use my Blue Cross insurance gym discount with Anytime Fitness and in order to do that they tried to charge me an insane enrollment fee and a higher rate.
Then, they said that twice a year, they need to charge customers $15 or $25 extra to "maintain the gym". Hello! That's what the membership fee is for.
I had to pay $10 just to have my sister work out with me for the day.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GO TO ANOTHER GYM.
Especially ones that allow a free guest.

UPDATE 5/22/2018: the owner, James, just tried to bribe me to remove this review trying to "fix things" a WHOLE YEAR after my review was posted. Funny how my contract is up this month finally... ABSOLUTELY NOT! ***DO NOT JOIN!!*** would not wish this gym membership on my worst enemy. WAY overpriced and costs $200+ to cancel your membership. It's a small gym with little equipment that is literally never kept clean. You can't even clean it yourself because they never stock the wipes, towels or cleaning spray. They got rid of their lay down tanning bed and the stand up doesn't work half the time as well as the Hydro Massage that is hit or miss if it's running that day. They have these crazy postings everywhere passive-aggressively yelling at their clientele with multiple grammatical errors on them. Good luck talking to customer service because they never respond and when they do, are extremely rude and a waste of time since nothing comes out of it anyway. They make little to no effort to want to keep you at the gym that's more expensive than every other gym in the area with more amenities, cleaner conditions and more equipment. If you join this gym, you will be extremely disappointed and then stuck there like I am because the cancellation costs are so high. DO NOT JOIN!!!!!!

Buyer Beware! They will take not just a pound of flesh but many if you happen to have to cancel the contract at any point! They charged me a $35 cancellation fee even after 1 completed one year of membership. When I called and asked, they gave me a bogus BS of a reason for it. Love this place - still go out of my way to go here even though I moved like a half hour away. The staff are great, super friendly and helpful, the gym is well-equipped and maintained, the tanning and massage beds are in good order and most of the members are polite and friendly.

Occasionally some of the MEMBERS can be jerks - mishandling equipment, grabbing what you're in the middle of using or just making the bathroom gross, but the staff are super great about replacing broken equipment and cleaning up after guests, so I have no complaints about the gym itself. Plus, most of the regulars are great people.

Other than that, my only complaint is that it tests my willpower by being next door to a Dunkin Donuts!!

I completed my year contract with Anytime Fitness in Mt Prospect and wanted to cancel my membership. When I signed up 1 year ago I asked what is the cancelation process and was told a 1 month notice was needed, nothing else was mentioned "EASY" I thought......but when I went into the gym with a letter to try and cancel I was told we only do cancelations on Mondays and Tuesdays and only at specific times. When I asked why I was told they need to be available at all times to new clients and current members. Did I mention only 2 members were at the gym working out! I asked if I could talk to another person I was told I could contact James but only on Friday's for a 2-4 hour window and would be told the same thing. Not sure how policies are at other Anytime Fitness clubs but these details should be mentioned in writing when new members sign up.

This is a super clean 24-hour gym that is never too crowd. No wait necessary to get on a machine which makes working out much more efficient. I love the ability to enter whenever I please because I do work late hours most days. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. Towels with spray bottles or wipes are always provided aiding in the cleanliness of the equipment. Also, love the self-serve tanning bed and hydromassage bed!! I have never regretted signing a contract with this gym thanks to all that it has to offer!

BEWARE!!!!! Don't trust anything any staff member says, I was push to sign a longer contract and I was told when signing up that if I moved more than 25 miles away I could cancel with proof of the move. After about a year into the two year contract, I moved over 25 miles away, I went to try to cancel the membership, I was told by a staff member named James, that he never heard anything about that moving 25 miles away could cancel the membership, that the only way I could cancel if I was terminal ill. I then asked for a copy of my membership agreement and he made me wait days and he finally sent it to me and clearly it states that relocating 25 miles with proof that I could cancel the membership. Sent a letter asking to cancel my membership like it stated to do so in the cancellation policy on the membership agreement, waited about a week with no response. Finally went in and was told they never received the letter and that they could not cancel the membership because there is a different anytime fitness with 25 miles where I moved even tho the cancellation policy on the membership agreement doesn't say anything about that. I have been lied to by James and other staff members on more then one occasion, and they care 0% percent about any of your problems, they just want the most money possibly out of you, first time I went in they gave me a option to pay $250 to get out of the contract and the second time I went in they changed it to over $300. This gym is just privately owned by some money hungry liars, because not all of the anytime fitness are the same! BEWARE

Switched over from another anytime fitness. Much cleaner here and better woking out atmosphere. Staff is really friendly and have the best interest for you. All the equipment is in tip top shape with no problems what so ever. Before I joined the Anytime gyms, I had memberships from LA fitness to x sport, u name it and never felt the way I do here. Membership prices are beyond fair and gym well kept up. I don't understand anything that anyone said negative about this location. If you know how to read and understand what your signing up for and for how long, you won't have no problem. Keep the great work up guys and Thank you for the great spot to have to burn some calories and stress away.

I have had the worst customer experience at the Mt Prospect Anytime Fitness ever! The associate, James, is unprofessional and has complete lack of respect for customers. I had an issue on hand with a charge and when I called to inquire about it, he was rude right from the beginning, would not allow me to speak to anyone else and hung up the phone on me! So on the surface this is a good enough gym. Its clean, has sufficient equipment, and of course the biggest advantage; it is open 24 hours. But before making the decision to join or renew your existing membership please keep reading.

The sign up process: $68 enrollment fee ($25 of which is for a “deposit” on the key fob). And the gym members are required to pay $25 twice annually for facility “improvement”. Conveniently mentioned after you are nearly done filling out the contract and have already made the decision to join the gym. But after you’ve fulfilled your years obligation that’s where it gets really bad.

After I had made my final payment I called the gym to cancel, assuming this would be an easy process after having fulfilled my contract obligation. The call went to James (the owner, or part owner as I understand). The phone number listed on the gyms website is directed to his cell phone so this is who you get to talk to if you want to call the business. I was given the run around by James, he wasn’t at work yet and would call me in an hour when he got in. An hour and a half passed, no call. I called back and he angrily said he was not yet at work and call me when he got there. Another 1.5 hours, no call. I called back, James picked up but said he was in a meeting. At this point he became very rude and condescending, then turning to insulting and making completely ignorant and unprofessional remarks. He hung up the phone and then called me back another 45 minutes later and spent 15 minutes ignorantly rambling about meaningless nonsense. In my life I don’t think I’ve encountered such a rude, arrogant, and condescending individual.
Realizing that conversation was going nowhere with him I ended the call and went over to the gym a couple days later. Fortunately, James was not there and I met with a manager “Anna”, the lone bright spot throughout this process. She was sympathetic and caring and apologetic for how the situation was being handled. And it was clear that this was not an anomaly as she was very much used to having to mitigate these interactions between gym members and James. I left after leaving a formal written request to cancel my membership (because my previous telephone and written email request clearly did nothing). I got an email from her about a week later that James will not discontinue my payments and that I will be obligated to uphold my membership through January 18th…72days after I submitted my formal request for cancellation on November 4th! Apparently the contract requires a 30 day notice but clearly James is making up his own rules outside of what is legal and contractually bound. And that $25 key fob deposit. That was a “purchase” not to be refunded. Minor after all of this but just extra salt on the wound.
I hate spending time over such trivial matters and lets be honest, we’re talking about the small sum of less than $100. But I’m so angry about how a very good member of a gym was treated that I’ll be submitting a complaint to the better business bureau (it won’t be the first complaint against this anytime fitness location).

Do yourself a favor if you’re considering a membership here and RUN AWAY! And if you’re an existing member deciding whether to renew… Cancel now. If you’re lucky you’ll only be obligated for another few months.

They trick you into thinking they're giving you a deal. But they will pull a bait and switch. They offer one price, then take it away before you sign saying that they're trying to keep their membership numbers down so they raise prices.

They also claim there's no cancelation fee-- But the only way they let you out of your contract is if you are hurt and physically unable to exercise or you move more than 25 miles away from any of their locations.

Horrible business. Tons of bad reviews/experiences out there. Especially with the manager, James.
