It is a decent venue for tournaments. I felt parking was lacking, the bathrooms were dirty, and the place was very hot. HOWEVER, the place was also jam-packed, so I don't want to judge too harshly. The bathrooms were kept stocked with toilet paper and soap, which is better than most tournament venues we have played games at! There are a ton of courts in this place, but I suggest bringing your own chair if you know there's a big tournament there.

We came for a cheer competition on April 5th 2025 for just 2 hours. There are new office buildings that are unmarked and vacant next door with a connected parking lot. No warning or notice was given that we were going to be towed. There are signs for the tow company, but they are extremely easy to miss if you come through their new entrance. After getting towed ( along with MANY other cars that day, they are like vultures) the tow company said this has been happening every weekend! I even called the manager of Canlan. He was very nice, but also admitted that this has been happening. They need to put much more effort into warning folks that this is happening by telling event coordinators and restricting that lot entrance BEFORE the event starts. I would be much more forgiving if this hasn't been happening for a while now, this could be much more easily avoided.

OK,.. for all practical purpose, but there is room for improvement in the area of inclusion. The front desk person, Jeff, is moody and selective in attitude. He was friendly with me last season, but suddenly he turned cold and rude after someone had his ear for some gossip.
I felt better off just cancelling my PB sessions. Luckily, the GM, Angel, gladly and quickly refunded my money.

Good facilities overall but this place can get crowded with limited parking. Indoor soccer field is a great idea but the plexiglass makes a lot of noise when hit by the ball distracting gymnastics competition next door. Clean but bathrooms need attention.

We had a late night event for a soccer game. I'm the type to always support businesses & go out my way to buy something even if it's small to support. The place is awesome. It looks like there might be some renovation getting done now.
Other than the food court, who wasnt ready with my pretzel, I asked the girl there for a pretzel and it took her 20 mins, she did mention someone turned off the stove and that is why my pretzel needed another 8 minutes. Then I get back after the 8 mins and the girl is struggling to get the cheese out, which she also claims it's been an issue all day but never bother to get the cheese out and put in the cup before I got there the 2nd time. I got my refund, but I just think there have to be some type of training on that end.

1st time here for the 4th grade basketball tournament. Large parking lot. Massive sports complex. 4 full basketball courts multiple indoor soccer fields. Concession stand. Multiple bathrooms. Plenty of seating. We won on a buzzer beater after being down by 12 points.

Salt your back parking lot!!!

If you're going to be open for a basketball tournament the day after a blizzard then you need to make sure that your facility is prepared properly.

The front lot gets full very quickly forcing people to have to park in the back and walk all the way around the to the front of the facility (not a short walk) which is fine. But they only salt the front lot so anyone parking in the rear has to make their way through a solid sheet of ice to get in.

I had to help an elderly couple slipping and sliding their way to the front just so they wouldn't fall and hurt themselves.

High priced entry fee, they had one ref for high school division, so while the refs were good there's no way one ref can call a good game at this level. With entry fee and team fee there is no reason there wasn't two refs.
Lighting inside is awful, there's limited seating, and scoreboard is directly above seats so fans can't actually see the time or score.
Bother men's and women's restroom were dirty and smelled awful.
Concession not great either.
If you're team is already signed up for a tournament here, good luck. If you're considering a tournament here I'd recommend looking for an alternative.

The outdoor rink was a beautiful place where the hockey community of all ages where meeting in summer (roller) and winter (ice). Now, there is a fee. Consequence, this beautiful rink is totally unused! kids are no longer enjoying their sport. Canlan would have earn more money and have done something nice for the community by letting it free (we would have buy drinks and food every time we go there!). Bad business plan, bad effect on youth sports.
Update: a fall and a winter later, no one used the outdoor rink. The spring and roller bladders are looking for another location to meet and share their love for hockey. It is a shame! and a questionable business decision as everytime we were there we went to the local gas station to buy drinks and food (at this time the sport complex was closed due to Covid). We would buy a lot of snack inside the complex.

First thing to keep in mind. This facility was called Liberty sports complex and now the name has been changed to Canlan sports.

I have come here many times throughout the years and I think it's a beautiful facility and probably the biggest one of its kind for a sports complex in Libertyville, Illinois.

They can configure their facility for many different sports including but not limited to volleyball, table tennis, soccer, I have even seen dance performances happen here as well

There's also a climbing wall in the middle of the facility which is nice. It's a pretty high ceiling so the high climbing wall makes sense.

One weird thing is that if you want to run or walk on the second level of the facility, it does not go all the way around. It goes in more like a horseshoe configuration so you have to make the U and then just come back and continue making the U shape run while running or walking so you can't go around the whole facility. A small annoyance but not as big of a deal.

The membership prices are high if you are looking to lift weights. If thats the case, find another gym. But this is best in the area for sports options. They have unlimited basketball courts, indoor soccer, rock climbing, golf. If you strictly only care about that stuff, this is the place for you.

I’ve only gone for the rock climbing wall, and the staff members are so friendly and helpful! Liam and Emily were very encouraging and offered tips on how to better maneuver my way up when I struggled at certain spots.

I do have one complaint, however. Each time I’ve gone in, I inquired about getting belay certified with my boyfriend through the facility. This would allow us to climb outside the designated hours the wall is open for- according to signs placed near the front desk. A couple months ago I was provided Ms. Haley’s phone number, but despite calling numerous times and leaving a voicemail, I never received a call back. Then last Sunday I was provided her email and again have not received any reply. I’m frustrated that I can’t get a hold of anyone to move forward with a service they offer. I still want to get certified, and would appreciate if someone could take the time and consideration to get back to me. Until then, I find it hard to recommend this complex.
