Best gym in Lockport, IL. They have a great new workout room, swimming pool, sauna, whirlpool, tennis courts, new outdoor workout area, locker rooms, and is adjacent to Dellwood Park in case you like to warm up or run outside!

I went into planet fitness this weekend because my grandma gave my 22 year old sister $20 for us to go swimming. When we mentioned that, a girl at the front desk mentioned to us that i could not go in because I am 16. I put my birthday on the paper they make you fill out every time when youβre a guest, so they mustβve just now paid attention to it because I went there 3-4 times, interacted with workers and used the pool. I never sneaked into the pool and I was genuinely confused as to why they told my sister that you have to be 18+ to swim there but yet they let me go those few times and on top of that there were actively other children who were in the pool. Children under 16. I get they were there for classes and it was more than general admission but like I just find that dumb. So I snuck in and went into the hot tub with my older sister and they kicked me out of the pool and told me if I did it again, Iβd be banned for 8 months. It was wrong of me to do but Iβm just not understanding why they pick and choose what kids go in the pool. Iβm even a resident of Lockport too even that even matters, I doubt it does too much. The lady also mentioned she was doing it for my safety which the hot tub I can understand because of the temperature but what is so dangerous about a pool? If itβs dangerous, why are kids ACTIVELY swimming in the pool? I donβt care about a refund. All I care about it that someone explains this to me because I am not understanding why they arenβt going by THEIR own rules. I know they have whatβs called an βOpen Dayβ where anyone no matter the age can swim but thatβs only a few days. In my opinion this needs to be changed. I added a picture I took from one of the times the FRONT DESK LET ME IN, also I am not in it so donβt worry you arenβt gonna see anything!

They will overcharge you, ignore you for months when you ask for the billing to be corrected, and cancel your membership without you asking to. NOT RECOMMENDED!! But I guess the facilities were ok. Β―\_(γ)_/Β―

Good lighting
Strong netting dividers
Benches between courts
Good viewing area
Temp PB courts that need to be manually lined.

The facility has some good weights and machines, better than Planet Fitness. The steam room, hot tub, massage chairs, and pool are a bonus. However, I have multiple experiences with the steam room and showers smelling like urine. Recently the hot tub water was cloudy with dirt rings (see pictures). Manager Ben Ragle said the cleaning guy Dave just cleaned the entire gym the night before. When notified of the dirt they just wiped it up and said it was "all clean." I've owned hot tubs for many years and when water is this bad it's time ro completely drain the water, scrub the tub, and clean the filters. Be careful to completely shower and disinfect when you leave this place is my advice!

Abusive stubborn management with zero customer service skills - expiration dates on personal training as if it's a perishable item, AVOID paying for these classes & any group training by all means, because they will take your money & give you nothing in return.
Taxes we pay Lockport in addition to membership fees, Challenge Fitness needs to offer decent studios for fun classes (not converted racquetball courts), more instructors, running & sports events, and weight loss pograms --not just the basic minimum of a park district gym...

Tiny gym, unreasonable prices, 0 guest passes, closes early on Saturdays. I'd like to support a local gym but the services you get are not worth it.
If you use the rest of the place (pool, courts, etc) then maybe you can justify the prices and lack of a substantial workout gym.

If I could put 0 stars I would. And I am never one to complain. If anything, I put positive reviews to go against all the garbage people sometimes put out there... And the thing is, I didn't mind going to this gym when I was using the membership, but trying to get out of the membership after moving has been a saga I wish never happened...I was asked to come in to show proof of move and fill out a form. I complied, but when I came in, a young man said he didn't need to make a copy of my proof of move (utility bill) and that "it would be fine" without that. There were 3 OTHER PEOPLE standing around that didn't stop him or say otherwise. The girl on the phone had stated I needed to show this which I said out loud in THEIR HEARING. Nothing was said otherwise. I thought that the majority -- in their silence -- would be right. Silly me. I should have insisted they copy my utility bill...So I took my utility bill and left. Mission accomplished, right? Membership canceled? NOPE. Two months later, even after a second trip to the gym to to try to sort this out (wherein it was discovered that my original cancellation form wasn't even on file and I was asked to put my name on another one -- they didn't even have my original???!!!!!!!!!) we have been charged again! We received no phone call from a supervisor as promised. They have also charged my mother-in-law who lives with us but has no job due to a recent stroke, successfully overdrafting her account. She also filled out a cancellation form and because she went with me on the SECOND TRIP, she did have her proof of move copied. She was still charged. Because apparently no one knows how to cancel a membership there and do their job. So beware. If you move, you might have to deal with this nonsense to get out of being a member there.

DO NOT JOIN!! Horrible experience I definitely donβt recommend being a member here. Nothing having to do with the membership is really explained to you, so when you want to cancel you have to wait for your contract to be up. Front desk customer service is very poor. And they should have way more equipment for the price you have to pay to be a member.

real thoughts

Highly unsatisfied. Even the cheapest gyms have better service, are more convenient, and offer more for your buck. Almost anything outside of the regular cardio machines and wight room is extra. The instructors are probably the worst part of the gym (maybe not all) but 2/3 that I have taken a class with so far made me uncomfortable and embarrased. One of the instructors stopped me mid class because apparentlly I wasn't properly checked in...I'm not sure why she couldn't wait until the end of class and if the facility service was even half descent and things were properly explained maybe they wouldn't face such problems. Another instructor had come up to me right before class and asked in a serious tone if i had taken his class in the past, I answered that I had not. He then proceeded to ask if I had ever taken a spin class, and i said yes. The instructor stared at me for a long 10 seconds without saying a word, so I repeated myself that i have taken a spin class in the past. The instructor gave no response and just walked away. Not sure how to take that or for that matter how any person should respond to such an odd and unconfortable interaction. The actual workout content of the classes is not bad. I woukd be ok if the instructors didn't interact at all, or if they choose to since the classes only have 6-8 people that the interactions are polite, friendly, or related to the workout.

I've been going to Challenge Fitness for about a year and a half. It's great. The facility is always clean and the staff always gives a cheerful "Hello" when I walk in. The only potential issue is that it's a bit small. The pool only has 5 lanes open during open swim, so sometimes you're waiting for a lane. (In fairness that has only happened to me once.) I've never had to wait for cardio equipment, but if you're wanting to use the weight machines, you'll probably have to go really early or really late to make sure nobody else is using them. To be honest I haven't had any problems, but I just want to outline them for others who may have different needs at the gym than I do.
The atmosphere of the gym is very nice. I didn't really appreciate it until I went to other gyms and felt like I was in a cave. Challenge Fitness has lots of windows to let in natural light. It sounds like a small thing, but for me it really helps to stay motivated and happy. Also, the treadmills and elliptical machines have screens on them that connect not only to basic TV stations, but also to the Internet. When I'm running I go to YouTube and watch music videos to get the adrenaline flowing. Somehow it's a lot more effective in getting me to run longer than just listening to music on my mp3 player. I have not found screens with wireless capabilities at other gyms I have visited.
The locker rooms are very nice and always clean. The other gym goers are pleasant. I've never done any fitness classes, but the employees I've encountered are nice. And because the gym falls under the umbrella of the Lockport Park District, you can always find out what's going on in the community. The good thing about Lockport is that the downtown area is relatively small, so I'm able to walk to the gym from my apartment in about 20 minutes. I recommend Challenge Fitness to any Lockport resident. (The monthly fees are reasonable--I believe it's $20 for a single person and $35 for a two-person membership, which is what I have, but the start-up fee is a bit of a doozy. When my girlfriend and I signed up, I think we had to pay something like $80 for the two of us for that month, but it's a one-time deal.)

Challenge Fitness is very current with Fitness Equipment. I also have a Country Club membership with the exact same equipment, but I pay a whole lot more each and every year.
The staff is very friendly and seem to always go out of their way when an issue comes to their attention. They are expanding the Parking Lot area to accommodate all the vehicles. I am shocked that this facility is Park District facility.
