Extremely friendly staff, knowledgeable trainers, and unique 80s feel with some impressive equipment. Some of the cable machines have not been properly serviced and are loose reducing their efficacy, front desk drinks and snacks are viciously overpriced compared to Walgreens a couple blocks away.
Updated my review because of my dissatisfaction of cancelling a membership. I already anticipate that they will respond saying "but but but you signed a contract". Doesn't matter, it is unethical, and basically misleading that a one year contract switches to month to month instead of just ending. Its unethical that I should have to pay for an additional month after cancelling my membership for a gym I don't use. I had less trouble cancelling my LA fitness membership than this, and obviously these people don't care about practicing fair business. So beware--especially if you are a student.
Being objective, if you live in the andersonville/edgewater area your options are basically this, la fitness, and B&W, and while I hate to say it, Cheetah's is easily superior to the other two. Just beware of how they run their business.

We are staying in Andersonville for a few months as our home base and enjoy the classes at the Cheetah. Classes are just the right size and are a great workout. We found the front desk helpful in figuring out the membership that worked for our short term. The gym is super well equipped and clean. It does get busy which I find overwhelming as I don’t really know how to navigate all the equipment. But the people here are in their groove and I found the right stuff for me.

I’ve been coming to this gym for 3 years. I do really like it; it’s close to where I live and it’s a very nice environment. However, recently it’s so busy at all hours of the day it’s impossible to get an enjoyable workout in. I’m constantly waiting on things and the equipment/spaces I’d like to use are always taken. I go to the gym almost every day and it doesn’t seem to matter what time I go it’s always busy. Unless you go painfully early in the morning. Also the hours are kind of awful. They close so early that again if you don’t go early in the morning it’s either too late to go work out or it’s too packed that it’s just unbearable. I think they’ve taken in more members than the space can comfortably accommodate… I’m pretty sure if they closed closer to 11pm not 9pm it would help with the crowds. I do really like the staff and the patrons here though. Everyone is very nice and I feel safe and comfortable socially in the space.

Been shellin’ out about $70/month here — it’s alright, not blowin’ me away though. Equipment’s decent, sauna’s a nice touch, but it gets crazy busy after 5, like you’re just standing around waiting half the time. Took a $20 yoga class once, it was solid. Staff’s friendly but kinda hands-off. Overall, it’s fine if you live close, but not sure it’s worth the price for everyone.

Loved this gym but their cancellation policy is ridiculous. They ask for a "two week notice" to cancel a month to month membership. I went into the gym today to cancel because I'm moving out of the neighborhood (been a member for 3 years) and they told me to send an email. I sent an email and was told I needed to tell them by the 15th, therefore I will still be charged for a month that I won't even be attending. In 2025, that's egregious. It's clear that this is set up to benefit them. Extremely disappointing.

Someone stole my $30 umbrella from the entrance on 11/18/24. Staff offered no conflict resolution other than skipping over video surveillance. Walked home in the rain without umbrella.
The manager “Angie Frank” response by email:
“Please share at your current place of employment, would the manager have approved to reimburse the patron for an uber?”
This statement is incredibly rude and unprofessional. Just stop letting people steal things and have an inservice of basic customer service skills and conflict resolution.

I toured Cheetah recently being new to Chicago looking for a gym that checks all my boxes (which Cheetah does).
However, the person that conducted my tour didn't make me feel welcome at all. As a person of color this was disheartening because I was so hopeful for this place given the area it's in.
Towards the end of my tour I asked some questions about rates, and when they responded it felt like they were intentionally telling me that I wouldn't qualify, instead of just letting me know what the qualifications are or how I could learn more about specifics.
I was debating writing this, but I thought it would be something important to call out for both the business and potential members.

The free weights, strength machines, and cardio machines are all adequate but the locker room facilities are sub par. The towels are smelly and the soap in the showers is really cheap, plus they have disgusting shower curtains. Location is excellent (1 block from my home)

I've been a member of Cheetah for several years and enjoy going (when I can force myself into leggings). The trainers are knowledgeable and there's plenty of equipment. The yoga and Werq classes are fantastic. Their hours accommodate early birds and night owls alike. The part that gets frustrating is that there are lots of classes, but many of them cost extra (sometimes up to 25$) on top of what is already a not particularly cheap monthly payment. There are cheaper gyms around, but Cheetah is so welcoming and such a good community neighbor that I do love being a member. However, not being able to take strength training or pilates or boot camp or whatever because I don't have an extra $$$ in my budget makes annual renewal a much more difficult choice than it should be. Still, the staff are lovely and it's a nice place to workout.

I gotta be honest. I really wanted to like this gym. They have a really cool interior and local neighborhood vibes. The trainers are friendly and the space is big. But there are a few reasons I left once my 1-year contract was up.
I came here wanting to take classes. I previously worked out at FFC, and would have stayed there forever for their stellar classes and instructors if I had not moved too far away from any of their facilities. I was hoping Cheetah could offer comparable class options. Unfortunately, there were not enough class options for my schedule and I was disappointed by all the classes I took except the Wednesday night cycling with Kathy. I didn’t feel I got a good workout at any of the other spin classes nor the few conditioning/hiit-type classes I took. The only yoga instructor available for evening classes made the class (which was supposed to be for all skill levels) way too advanced, with students doing headstands for most of the class and me sitting in child’s pose most of the time because *shocker* I can’t do a headstand. This particular instructor would come over and touch my body to adjust me without asking, which I hated, and when I asked her to stop touching me, she ignored me. Red flag.
Aside from those issues, the locker rooms often smelled like sewage and it was frequently way too hot in the summer months.
To cap off my experience, my annual contract ended July 31. I emailed the gym to terminate my membership and they informed me I would be charged for August because they had sent me an email warning me my membership was up 2 weeks ago. I never received this supposed email. Not only that, they charged me $99 for August when my previous bills were $75 per month, because they considered my roll over into August to be at the monthly rate. The whole process was not transparent and clearly set up to squeeze more money out of me when I was not satisfied with the product. When I emailed to ask for some help with this I was met with immediate and strong rejection, almost as if they had dealt with this before. Hmmm…
I am disappointed that this process ended up being as impersonal as you would expect from a big corporate chain gym. Not the friendly customer service I hoped for.

I’ve been going to cheetah now for a couple months, and i gotta say, it’s the only gym i’ve been to that i genuinely want to keep coming back to. I just moved to the neighborhood and everyone is really nice, and being gay, it’s a great safe space to be in. There arent just body builders here, there are ppl at all levels which i appreciate. I am a little disheartened to know that their platinum membership is ending after this year, (as it is the one i have currently) bc i feel like its sooo worth the price, but! definitely wont keep me from re joining on a different plan next year. This gym is also the reason i want to stay near Andersonville because I cant imagine going anywhere else.
If you’re someone who, like me, is new to working out and has fears or doubts about being in a gym environment, this is the place to go to. I dont ever write reviews cuz idgaf usually, but, i love it here and the things i read on here are so negative for no reason.
Anyway, thanks cheetah for getting me back into fitness💪🏻❤️

I'm incredibly pleased to have this as my neighborhood gym. There's plenty of options for machines and equipment to use. I've been looking for better structure for my workouts and got a personal trainer from Cheetah. It took a little time to find the trainer that was right for me, but along the way, staff has been incredibly accommodating to my needs. I am much more confident about my fitness journey since starting here and my current trainer has been great about improving my form and addressing questions/concerns. Thank you Angie and Josh!

Was a member for a year while I lived in the neighborhood. It’s a good gym, lots of equipment, the staff could be a bit more personable and attentive however. I gave almost 2 months notice of wanting my membership to be cancelled, received confirmation from the owner, and was still charged for another month after being told March would be my last billing month. Not only that, instead of being charged the usual $45 that I had been paying for the student membership, I was charged $79. Had to get in touch with them to let them know of this error and was refunded but extremely frustrating & not sure why or how this was overlooked to being with.

This place keeps closing earlier and earlier. They used to close at 11pm. Then 10pm. Then 9pm. Tonight they flicked the lights and turned the music off at 8:47 when people were still in the middle of their workouts. Otherwise, it’s a great place.
I think the early morning guests would freak if they started opening later and later.

I can't believe I've been visiting my mom in the neighborhood for years without stopping here. Really affordable 1 week or 1 month non-contractual passes for visitors, great classes, solid amenities (i.e. steam room, lockers, etc.). Can't wait to re-up my temporary pass next time I'm in the city. Friendly staff, never too crowded, and all of the equipment is in fantastic condition. Helped make my winter break a great one.

Great place! Unique feel for a gym, has a lot of space and access to machines. There's also at least two bags in different spots if you'd like a bit of practice, although the one in the studio space is sometimes unavailable if a class is happening when you drop by.

I have loved working out at Cheetah gym since I moved to the area. It is very clean, has a wide variety of equipment, and rarely feels crowded. The parking is a big plus! I also had a few free training sessions after I joined and I thought the training was excellent. My one complaint is that the guest wifi is very spotty and could definitely be upgraded or expanded as it only works on occasion or in some areas of the gym. Overall a great experience.

Cheetah Gym is one of the best in the city, as someone who's belonged to several different gyms, Cheetah is home. From the rotation of equipment out to new classes being offered constantly, there's something for everyone here. Yes, it's a bit more than "corporate gyms" but the customer service you get more than makes up for the difference. I could spend hours talking about the personal trainers and how personable they are and how knowledgeable they are, but that may have to be saved for an updated review. I wanted to call out the front desk, especially Nich, as being the GOLD STANDARD in customer success. I would happily poach him if I could afford him, as he writes the binder on customer experience. What an absolute gem, I can't write enough about how even after I moved, I stayed with Cheetah since their customer experience is second to none. He really makes my morning when I walk in, and makes the day great when I'm heading out. Sean and him are one of the greatest front desk tandems in history, book it. Go to Cheetah with confidence, you won't be disappointed.

Argumentative management toward potential new clients is bad for business.
I guess he forgot that he manages a service providing company.
Nevertheless gym is small, not much muscle building equipment for loading, just the BASICS.
Steam room but no sauna, saunas are what you want for muscles not a steam room.
Limited leg equipment and back equipment.
Ridiculous policies and way too high of a price for membership compared to what they offer.
Not to mention the rude and clueless management.
If the owner reads this, do yourself a favor and hire someone who actually works out that can relate to people who actually use a gym.
Not some unfit guy that doesn’t even lift/train. And make sure they actually have a personality to handle new potential clients. The one you have now is costing you money!

Would love to rate this neighborhood gym more stars but the price (which does no include classes like other gyms) does not match the service and facilities. The steam room has been closed for months without an update. Since the gym has limited amenities and is priced similarly as the higher end gyms in Chicago. I would hope it would properly maintain the amenities it does have in working order.

I usually hate gyms-the macho guys mean mugging people, the grunting, the people on the treadmill that don't wipe it down after running a marathon...they reminded me of middle school politics and performance with a whole lot of sweat.
These are the reasons I left gyms for 8 years. and
But then I joined Cheetah gym. It has none of that toxic, vapid gym culture! The people that work there & work out there are really nice. It's a friendly, positive culture of wellness that encourages you to become a healthy version of yourself at your own pace. The classes are fun, and the instructors are patient and kind. they help you get out of your comfort zone. The equipment & workout space is always pristine. The community that works out there always reracks weights, wipes down machines and really takes as much pride in the space as the excellent staff does. It's an excellent workout experience and it's a place I look forward to going to everyday. Can't recommend Cheetah gym enough.

Nobody hogs equipment, people are considerate of their surroundings, and are consistent with wiping down equipment after each use. I also appreciate the amount of space in this gym— you never feel cramped in a corner when you’re working out. I love the tall ceilings + windows.

Love it here! The classes and trainers are fantastic! When I first started going I lost 20lbs in 3 months! Of course you have to work hard but it's so worth it.
I also trained with wesley, he taught me a lot that I apply when I workout alone. Jason is a phenomenal trainer as well, he teaches muay thai and a weekend warrior class, great way to start your day. Tracy has bootcamp classes that will push you. Jack- omg his classes will kick your butt but they're worth it, he works on building strength and agility. With critter you'll do a variety of different things each week; TRX, kettlebell, medicine ball etc and help tone. Deborah ab classes are to die for! My core became so strong and my obliques started showing-I love her classes.
The daycare workers are so attentive and great with children and rest of staff is awesome. The gym itself has a wide variety of equipment, barbells go up to 100#, dumbbells go to 60# maybe more. An area where you can do TRX and abs, soo many squat racks, battle ropes, stretching area, bands, medicine balls and my fave, a punching bag.
There's also an area where you can spare and they have everything you will need.
I also love when I was working out by myself, a trainer gave me some pointers-shout out to Justin!
Can't wait to get back there! I had to take 4 months off due to pregnancy complications but in July I'll be back!

I come here regularly. It’s never very crowded, the facilities are great. Some aging equipment but it looks like they’re working on getting them up to date.
The people are really nice and the employees leave you alone. There is a large LGBT+ crowd there, but you wouldn’t think twice about it, again, because everyone’s so nice.
They try to keep the place clean. Sometimes there’s a funky odor coming thru the place but it’s not their fault, I don’t think.
Location is great, right in the heart of downtown Andersonville, with a parking lot in the back.

I've belonged to Cheetah Gym for 3.5 years. It has a great community and is welcoming to everyone. For being an independent neighborhood gym, they also attract some great instructors for strength training, dance fitness, and spin. Cheetah Gym is great! I was a member for over a year (only stopped because I moved across the country). The facilities were always clean and there was always plenty of equipment available. Not too much in the way of trendy bells and whistles, but they have everything you need to work out: free weights, barbells, cardio equipment, etc. The vintage decor is unique and interesting. Staff are uniformly friendly and helpful. My favorite part of the gym were the group exercise classes. They have them at a wide variety of times to accommodate different schedules. Instructors were never judgmental and made an effort to work with people at different fitness levels while still providing a challenging workout. My only criticism of this gym was that sometimes the upper floor got very warm. Perhaps the older building is not well set up for air conditioning? But the benefits of this gym far outweigh the negatives.

It's really been cleaned up & run well in recent years. The hours and location make it ideal for my family. The equipment is a bit old and dated but always in working order. The staff couldn't be nicer & always willing to work with people to resolve any issues.

My gym is awesome! Full range of machines, freeweights, and classes. Plenty of lockers and bonus steamroom in the basement. Parking in back. I'm always greeted and made to feel welcome by staff which, unlike other gyms I've patronized, are the same people as when I joined. Good value for the money.

Seriously in need of fumigation. I have been coming for a while. It has always been a bit like this. You get used to it after 10 min. But now it is really intolerable

Cool old gym. It’s a bit crowded around some of the equipment and was disappointed they didn’t offer smoothies though it looked like they had a kitchen to offer it. Good looking crowd around the gym.

It could use some updated equipment. Some of the machines need maintenance. A lot of the killing machines do not follow smoothly.

Was unhappy with the level of service during my last visit. Attempted to enquire about a membership and I was turned away because I did not have a shirt on. This gym is not for me. So many of these gyms are turning into country clubs, it is hard to find a real gym where I can get a hardcore workout.

This gym is great! Never too busy when I go, which is what I prefer. Great service and friendly staff; I don't even pay for a trainer but their trainers have talked to me and always greet me with and know me by name. They also care about the community and offer local business and teacher membership discounts.
