Chicago Sports Institute has been an absolute game changer for our family. They train my son Miles, who finished 3rd in the state of Illinois in the 400m as a junior — and CSI was a major reason why. They didn’t just train him to run faster; they educated him on nutrition, how the whole body works together, recovery, stretching, and strength. They built his confidence and helped him mature as both an athlete and a young man.
The culture here is truly client-first. Authentic, caring, and extremely professional. They focus on the full development of the athlete, not just performance in a single season. I can't say enough great things about my experience at chicago Sports Institute. As a personal training client in my 50s, I'm particularly impressed with CSI’s focus on overall health.
At first, training with Alex 3 days a week sounded like a lot but now I hate to miss a session. My training schedule with Alex has vastly improved my strength and body comp, endurance on the tennis court, and my eating and sleeping habits. The sessions Alex has developed for me are both challenging and results focused. Alex's positive vibe and encouragement push me to work hard while still having fun. I particularly like that Alex tracks my progress at each session in order to build future programs for me based on tangible results. That certainly motivates me to be my best at every session! CSI’s attention to pre-workout warmups and good nutrition also have been vital to my success. Alex is always available to answer my questions and provide help on diet, exercise outside of the gym and rest and recovery. I particularly love the addition of red light saunas for recovery post workout. Most of all, I really enjoy looking back at the improvements I have made and I appreciate Alex's expert coaching on form and technique to help me reach my goals. Alex and the entire team at CSI are not just fitness professionals, they are genuinely terrific people. No wonder I always walk out of CSI with a smile on my face.

I am generally very active but could never commit to weight training even though I know I need to build and maintain muscle to stay healthy and active. I initially went to CSI just to use my son’s remaining sessions and immediately got hooked. Colin is a great trainer; very knowledgeable, encouraging and focused on proper form. I have had different trainers in the past but none that motivated or encouraged me enough to stick with weight training. Colin has. All CSI trainers are friendly and welcoming and the gym is clean, organized and fully equipped. I am seeing results, adding muscle while reducing body fat percentage. CSI is also very helpful advising on nutrition and general health. Would highly recommend CSI and Colin!

I recently completed my first summer training with Dave and Logan at CSI, and the experience was exceptional. I began training at CSI because I needed a change in my training. I knew all the trainers at CSI were incredibly knowledgeable and took a method and metric-based approach. I really wanted to be challenged and see if I could get stronger and healthier despite being in my mid-forties. Everything I read was saying it would be an uphill battle to improve athletically, build muscle and stay lean. To achieve that I needed to work with someone to build a plan, hold me accountable, help keep me injury-free and show me results.
Training at CSI has been a revelation. In a true team effort, I’ve added muscle, exceeded strength goals I had set, and am leaner in my 40’s than I’ve ever been in my life! But perhaps, more importantly, I’ve experienced a real shift in my mindset and am building confidence and grit in each session. I have been training with Brandon for the past year at CSI. I am constantly impressed with his knowledge, attention to detail, and consistent energy and passion. Just as importantly, he has an incredible ability to draw out of me the next level of effort and ability to get through seemingly insurmountable discomfort. Bottom line, Brandon is an exceptional motivator who coaches me to my best performance and has me excited to return for the next challenge. That being said, the work is tough and the mutual dedication to the process and coach/client relationship is essential to push the boundaries, make it through the deeply burning muscles and/or lungs, to get one more rep, to simply keep moving when your brain says no way!
Brandon and I recently completed a 12 week fat loss phase. With a combination of impressive, next-level, challenging programming and attention to nutrition and recovery I was able to drop a total of 16 pounds (from 146 to 130 lbs). This alone was impressive; however, despite the rigor of the workouts and some calorie deficits most of the weigh loss (12 pounds) was fat! Needless to say, my physique really shifted. I came out of the phase looking significantly leaner (I can see abs) and feeling like age is no excuse for not achieving your physical/health goals. The improvement in body composition, a decrease in 6%, means I’m coming out of this phase with a sleaker physique and more confidence in both my ability to change my body and my health. In the same 12 week period, I also saw an average drop of my resting heart rate to the low 40’s (from the low 50’s) and an average increase in my HRV of 10 milliseconds, indicating my fitness level also improved.
If anyone asked me where they should train if they are serious about pushing themselves, want to see real result in metrics, visually and mentally, I would resoundingly tell them to make the commitment and train at CSI. I’ve seen the team work with athletes and the general population, tailoring the programming, support and coaching to each clients’ needs and goals. The customized approach really maximizes your potential and results when you go all in with the process.

I started training with John Sandberg at CSI at what I can confidently identify as a low point in my fitness trajectory. In the course of shedding nearly half of my body weight, I found my progress stalled for three months and I knew that I needed help. Within a month of training four times a week with John and following his nutrition plan, I dropped ten pounds of fat.
Over the past year and a half training with John, I have exceeded my own expectations - drastically increasing my strength, health and energy. I believe this was possible not only because of John’s skill and dedication as a strength coach but also because of his belief in me and his ability to bring out the best in me.
I am healthier, stronger and happier than I have been in the recent past because of John and my time at CSI. I love going to the gym and truly enjoy all of the trainers and clients at the facility - I’m grateful to be a part of the beautiful CSI community.

Knocking on the doors of CSI came at a time when I felt like my health was declining. I was tired all the time, my energy was low, something felt off in my body, and I knew I needed to make a change. Looking back, it’s clear that this was one of the best decisions I’ve made for my health and overall well-being.
From the very start, I felt welcomed and supported, and that’s largely thanks to my coach, Logan. Logan is incredibly knowledgeable and professional, but what truly sets him apart is how attentive, kind, and encouraging he is. He really listens, understands your goals, and adapts your training to meet your needs. You can tell he genuinely cares—not just about your progress in the gym, but about how you’re doing as a whole person. The facility itself is always clean, well organized, and filled with positive energy. All of the staff at CSI are professional and welcoming, and they help create an environment where everyone feels comfortable and motivated to grow.
Over the past 15 months, I’ve experienced significant changes. I’ve lost weight, and my blood pressure dropped from the hypertension range—where I was close to needing medication—to completely normal. I used to feel tired all the time, but now I have the energy and focus to enjoy other parts of my life more fully. Working out at CSI has been an incredibly worthwhile investment, and I’m so thankful to be on this journey with Logan. I would not be where I am today without my trainer Logan and the awesome trainers here. The people at CSI are not only friendly but hard-working and keep you on track to help you reach your goals. I have been personal training with Cade at Chicago Sports Institute for the past 2 years to target hormonal weight change, strength training and overall health. I have been at MECA and its predecessor gyms for 19 years. As a 75 year old woman, over the years the gym's trainers have done an excellent job helping me return to strength from multiple joint replacements and surgeries. My current trainer, David Rios, is now continuing this tradition with his upbeat subtly demanding style by helping me progressively recover from a total shoulder replacement and get back to the strong golf game I love!

All the trainers are top notch, the atmosphere is lively and everyone cares about achieving your goals. I have been weight training with Gavin for 2 years and it has been one of the best decisions of my life. He has helped me so much. I had terrible elbow tendinitis in both elbows which limited me in so many simple ways. I couldn’t even open the fridge! It is now gone. I feel so much stronger in every way- it is amazing! I feel like I can do anything! Plus I have gone from almost 23% body fat to 18.8% and have gained 4 lbs of muscle! Not bad for 48 yrs old! Definitely recommend! Just do it! Started going to MECA for goals of gaining weight, eating healthier, and improving my posture. For many years my diet has consisted of fast food/ quick/ easy eats.. energy drinks, soda- overall high levels of sugar.
I reached out via an Instagram Post I saw, was able to get in touch with Mike S. who placed me with Nia P. for my training.
Nia has been incredibly patient with me, asking me questions- which in turn guide her to give me instruction for my personal goals. Wether it be stretching routines to do at home on my own, giving me ideas for the grocery, and even as far as meals of the foods I can stomach. I have big time texture issues with meat- and finding alternative ways to get protein and calories into my body has been a huge help. My overall well-being has significantly improved since I have started here. Being pushed, knowing I am getting professional guidance from someone (people) who genuinely care about seeing their clients succeed.
Not only is Nia great, but the entire staff is friendly and willing to help. I have always been hesitant to go to the gym for personal insecurities- but the level of professionalism that MECA brings to the table is unparalleled.
Each member of the team truly wants to see each client attain their goals. Giving motivation when needed, making a joke, or a simple “let’s go” after finding the limit.
No matter your goals- from my personal experience- the entire team is willing and able to go above and beyond for the success of the individual client.

Gavin and the entire team are exceptional! Gavin listens, motivates and truly cares about your whole experience from the actual workout to nutrition/supplements to how you feel/injury. I came to MECA looking to get healthy, lose some weight that I gained during the pandemic, and learn more about strength training. My expectations have been exceeded and then some. I have lost weight and gained energy, confidence, and strength. Annaliese is an incredible coach who has been my teammate every step of the way. My only regret is not finding MECA sooner. I started working with the staff of MECA around three years ago. Through my experience, I’ve grown as an athlete through strength, mobility, and cardiovascular training. The entire team of trainers are extremely professional and friendly. They tailor workouts to fit your needs and goals, and are always great with keeping the workouts interesting. My trainer, Gavin, has worked with me for almost a year now, and has always been very helpful and easy to communicate with. Even though sometimes I can’t always be in person at the gym, he still offers diet tips and writes entire programs that work with whatever equipment is available to me. The thing that makes MECA different from other places is the environment. It has great vibes with great trainers who are pushing their clients to be the best versions of themselves. I’ve seen tremendous results in my time training there and have no plan to discontinue my workouts with them, especially my trainer Gavin Meyer.

I am having such a great experience with CSI. I play Hockey and it completely changed my game on the ice. I got faster, stronger, endurance went up etc. Throughout the time I’ve been with CSI which is a year I’ve been able to lose body fat and Gain a lot of muscle mass. I gained 5.5 Ibs of muscle and percentage body fat went down 7.7%. I went from only doing 3 chin ups to 13 chin ups. They have a great staff as well! My time here has been super successful. I can’t say enough good things about Alex Apostol and the rest of the team at Chicago Sports Institute. I started working with Alex in January of 2022. Coming out of the pandemic my weight was up, my energy levels were low and I was struggling to get myself back into a regular workout routine. After asking others for their suggestions on a good gym I decided to try CSI based on numerous positive reviews. Six months later I could not be happier with my decision to train at CSI. My strength is up, my energy levels are back, I look and feel great. Alex has continually pushed me at each session to get better but also makes sure each it is done properly to avoid injury. I first began training at CSI to be stronger for baseball. Not only did I achieve that, but I also learned to be more confident and disciplined.
It all started with being introduced to the trainers and to my coach, Alex Apostol. Everyone is so friendly and greets you when you come in. It has been such a positive and professional environment and I am happy to be in it.
In 4 months, I gained 8 lbs of muscle and decreased my body fat at the same time. I feel stronger than ever which helps me on the baseball field tremendously.

Started training at CSI over the summer to prepare for the upcoming season. The experience was second to none. Went in just trying to build some muscle and get into shape but it was much more than that. Learned how to eat correctly, recover faster, and keep my body in peak shape for the season. I worked with Gavin Meyer and the training was incredibly in depth, focusing on hockey specific training and hitting the correct muscles. The results speak for themselves. Gained about 15 lbs total, roughly 10 lbs of muscle, quadrupled the number of chin ups, and doubled my DB bench weight. I have now been working out at CSI for about a year. Hard to say enough good things about the quality of training. The plan is thoughtfully constructed and adapted to your goals. I'm always challenged, but also always improving, leaving me looking forward to the next session rather than dreading it.
The proof is in the pudding. Working with Phil, I've steadily added muscle and improved body composition. I recently set a PR marathon time, despite being heavier (muscle mass) and older, in a more challenging race. As strength has grown, so has confidence, with knock-on benefits in other areas of life. A hard morning session at CSI puts the minor issue at work in the afternoon into perspective.
I don't have many regrets in life, but for sure one is that I didn't start strength training earlier . I'm glad to have finally started at a place as professional as CSI, with a good community of people.
Before starting at CSI, I had a trial session elsewhere and left very unimpressed. After that, I decided to trust my friends (who swore by CSI) that it was worth the premium. I'm glad I did. I decided to try CSI when my arthritic knee flared up after playing paddle tennis. I started training with Gavin Meyer and he closely monitored the exercises to help me gradually
strengthen my knee. In less than a year, I have regained full range of motion and I have no swelling or pain. My knees are the best they have ever felt. In addition, I have lost four percent body fat and I’m the strongest I’ve been.

I began training with Brandon Yang a year ago in preparation for my high school senior football season. I knew I needed to become bigger, stronger, and faster in order to play well as quarterback. Brandon wrote programs that would do just that. He counseled me on nutrition and walked me through all of the exercises with proper form. Starting Brandon’s programs, I weighed 190 pounds and within 4 months, I added 30 pounds of muscle, coming in at 220. My strength also increased dramatically. My squat went from 300 to 380 pounds; bench went from 230 to 305; and my 40 yard dash from a 4.9 to a 4.69. I never thought I would see these results in such a short amount of time! Each program had a specific purpose to help me achieve my goals. Not only did I feel the best I have ever felt, I also became the best athlete I could be and was ready to dominate the upcoming football season.
The end result of all this hard work was a winning season and our first home playoff appearance ever. I felt confident in my abilities and I played the best I ever have. I could throw further and more accurately, break tackles, and use my elusiveness and awareness to score touchdowns. At the end of the season, I was awarded the offensive MVP and an All-Conference award. I could’ve never had these results without Brandon’s help. He was knowledgeable and inspired and pushed me to my limits.

Brandon Yang is amazing and our family loves Chicago Sports Institute. I joined CSI after suffering a hamstring tear while running. At the time, I was unable to walk even a block without having pain. I can’t say enough great things about Gavin Meyer and Chicago Sports Institute. Sienna, my 14 year old daughter, started training with Gavin in February 2021 after her tennis coach wanted to improve her strength and agility. She loves training with Gavin. He is great with kids and has helped her learn about and enjoy strength training. After several weeks at CSI, her serve and forehand were more powerful and she was hitting at a higher velocity. Gavin helped with her footwork. Now she is more agile and faster on the court. Being at CSI greatly improved her confidence and has taken her overall strength to a much higher level. I’ve been with my trainer, Alex Sutrinaitis., for 15 months. Alex blends the right balance of encouragement with challenges while making you feel a sense of accomplishment every time. I think back to my first month, where I was starting, and am amazed at the patience Alex had as I struggled with what are now easy exercises. He never gets frustrated and is always positive. Over time we have gotten to know one another well, which gives him an inside look on what motivates me such as not tearing a calf during paddle tennis, driving the golf ball 25 yards further and being healthier. He takes that information and tailors my sessions to progress toward my goals.
I have many friends who train at CSI they all say similar things. I’m lucky to have taken the first step and gone in for an assessment. Getting matched up with Alex was critical to getting me back in the gym, week after week. Now 15 months later, I haven’t missed a session and feel tremendous both physically and mentally. Our Daughter worked with Brandon. He was fantastic and helped her reach her goals for swimming and her other sports. He challenged her appropriately and made the workouts fun and challenging. In her time working with Brandon she completed her first full chin-up, Trap Bar Deadlifted 64k for 5 reps, Bulgarian DB Split Squat 25lbs (in each hand) for 12 reps, Flat DB Press 35lbs for 5 reps. I can’t say enough positive things about this place! CSI is a dream-come-true for functional sports medicine, injury rehab/recovery, expert athletic training, and overall physical fitness. Under one roof, I have been able to:

I have had such a wonderful experience working with CSI to achieve my goals. During this offseason I had to goal to get as big and strong as possible before my upcoming football season. As a group fitness class & cardio junkie. I love a good workout, but was doing the same type of workouts each day (run, cycle, barre, repeat). Lifting weights and training with Jackson Frey at CSI has allowed me an opportunity to push myself behind what I thought were my limits.
Jackson formulates an individual workout for me and rotates it every four weeks based on my goals. This keeps it fresh and has allowed me to work each muscle group in a different way, while taking the guesswork out.
I can't recommend Jackson, and CSI, enough. Jackson takes the time to educate me to improve my performance. He encourages me each session to stick to my goals, and I feel stronger and more confident because of it.

I have worked with John Sandberg, at CSI, for the past twelve weeks and I could not be happier with my experience. I came to him because I wanted to see if I could avoid having surgery on my shoulder (I have a slight rotator cuff tear and a torn labrum). I started with Jackson Frey approximately nine weeks ago, and I know I was quite a challenge for him. I was reluctant to start working out again after not weight training on my own consistently. They helped me get back into at my own speed, with a program geared towards my numerous weak areas, they inquired and help me with nutrition, they discussed restaurants and created menus without me asking, they support me and help me push through various plateaus. It is much more than a place to work out with a personal trainer. There is both a personal touch with the trainers and a great support community among others working out at the same time. I am on month five and intend to be there a long time. I would highly recommend this place. It is much more than a gym.
