They are supposed to be open at 7am on Sundays, but typically the employee that is scheduled to open the gym is always late, there are times they don’t get there until after 730am, so you are waiting in your car for someone to get there. The place is a complete mess, nobody takes pride in keeping it clean but I don’t think that’s there interest, all they care about is that you scan is so they can make sure you actually have a membership. I do think the staff is nice, all the staff that have dealt with has always been friendly and has been very helpful. This could be a great gym if you find someone that cares enough to make it a great gym!

Decent gym. Some staff are nice, some are not too accommodating and lazy. Most of the punching bags are worn down, men’s shower doesn’t have hot water. It’s not overcrowded so you don’t have to wait in line. Not a great gym but not a bad one either. I’ve looked all over Champaign and it’s the best I could find, but there’s not a lot of good gyms in Champaign outside of the university so this is about as good as it gets if you live out here

Their "cancel any time" is a lie. I tried to cancel a few times, and every time they said only their manager can cancel membership, so they only froze my membership. Now that they have added the online option for cancellation, they say you have to pay another month's fee because of a 30-day notice rule, which was not communicated to me when I signed up. Be very careful! The ads you get really make it seem like you can cancel any time with no cost, advertising signing up for $1. But what they don't tell you is that even if you cancel within the first few days, you will still be charged an annual membership fee of $54.99 and will also have to pay two full months at $24.99 each. That $1 deal quickly becomes $100, and the offer is not advertised that way.

I cancelled after a few days because the gym was completely crowded, and there were holes all over the floor in the weight area. The only way I could do my free-weights lifting routine is if I went as soon as it opened. Any time I tried to go in the evening, I was left with walking on a treadmill.

Love this place! For the price of $60 a month you get everything. Lots of workout stations, classes, spray tanning, lay down tanning and water massage chairs! It's 25 bucks a month, but what they don't tell you is there's $52 fee every 2 months. But really a great place.

Awful awful place. I’ve emailed numerous times trying to cancel my membership because I can’t come in person (I’m overseas taking care of sick family and haven’t been in their gym since February). They still haven’t responded to my emails (I presume they want me to fly back to Champaign, Il to cancel a gym membership??) and the website doesn’t even let me pay my overdue fees. The male bathroom also always smells horrible and the ground near the benches is terribly unstable - just an accident waiting to happen.

I've been a member for a few months now. The gym is decent. They have plenty of equipment, and they seem to be trying to get ahead of the other negative reviews about cleanliness. My daughter loves the daycare and the girls who work in there. The one massive complaint I have about this location is reguarding the parkinglot potholes. The parking lot is in need of desperate repair. There is a large pothole right in front of the entry way. Both my daughter and I have fell in it and have been hurt. Please fix this issue.

Tried to stop in for a quick shower when my hot water heater broke. Doors were locked half an hour before close... Called them and the employee ignored the phone call. Manager try to respond to this post saying that he looked at the footage and saw nothing yet I wrote this while watching the employee look at the phone walk away and go into the bathrooms that I could clearly see through the corner offices windows. I don't appreciate being called a liar when clearly I was standing outside your business well before closing hours and the doors were locked I even passed a person who didn't hold open the door for us

Be cautious with their promotions. Even if you sign up for a trial and cancel after your first visit, they may still charge you the $60 annual fee—as they did with me. I only went once, decided the gym wasn’t for me, and canceled promptly, but still got charged. When I tried to share my experience on their social media, I was blocked—feels like they’re trying to silence honest feedback.

The gym itself just wasn’t my style: it was dark, loud, overcrowded, and not well-maintained when I visited. That intense environment might work for some, but I prefer a more relaxed, clean space to stay in shape.

Nothing against those who enjoy that kind of atmosphere, but the corporate marketing team should be transparent about their terms and promotions. Hiding real customer experiences doesn’t build trust.

Cancelling is a nightmare. I had a yearlong plan and wasn't allowed to cancel in the middle of it. So I had to wait months while paying for something I couldn't use. Then, I was allowed to cancel, but they said I had to come in person. I live 14 hours away now. So they allowed me to do it through email. I had the 10 a month plan with the 50 a year charge. When canceling I had to pay the 50 and 10 to get out. The gym wasn't bad and clean. Just. The canceling stretched on and on and was far more stressful than it should be.

Started going to this gym a couple months or so ago with a few of the boys, gotta get those gainz y’know what I mean? The atmosphere about 6/10 cool vibes but the haze of musk floating around in there flares up my asthma something fierce and I don’t have to use my inhaler very often so that’s really saying something! It ain’t easy bein wheezy! Aside from all that, the bathrooms are a 3/10. The mountain of wadded up paper towel’s and the dead June bug that I thought was a roach really spruce up the place. And the swampy puddle in the furthest shower really adds a touch of nature in there! My favorite landmark is the 1/4 full jug of water that’s been sitting in there all week though!

The gym itself is great! but not (some of) the front desk staff. Be careful when providing them any payment information especially for "late fees" and monitor your bank statements.

I signed up for a membership and about a week later I scan in and the lady behind the desk rudely informs me I have a late payment, I tell her this is not possible since I just signed up and even if I was charged I have auto payments set up with $ in my account. I even show her how my account has money in it and has no attempted charges from crunch. She continues to be rude and insists I pay my $45 monthly fee and a $10 late fee, but I am signed up for the $9.99 a month fee and why would I pay a late fee when its not my fault?

Eventually she gets a manager and they tell me my VISA card was declined. I don't have a VISA card so I am confused. They ask me for my bank account info and they replace the Visa card with that. They tell me it's all set now but I'm confused how this happened so I ask what the name is on the profile, and it's not my name! They somehow had connected my picture and scan code to some random persons account who did have a late payment, and then proceeded to put my bank account on their profile without ever confirming my name.... had I not asked I would have been paying for someone else's (more expensive) membership!

I hope this is not a widespread issue but reading other reviews this may explain why people are overcharged and "charged under different fake names". They should really investigate this instead of being dismissive in the replies. It seems like if someone scans in while you are setting up an account your info will merge with theirs.

I understand these mistakes happen, but the woman and the manager handled this very unprofessionally, they should not immediately panic or be rude to customers when they "have a late payment". I hope they grow from this and learn to remain kind and calm when these issues arise. It is good protocol to always confirm name when something doesn't seem right.

I’ve been to many gyms across the country due to work, and I can confidently say that Crunch Fitness in Champaign is the worst gym I have ever stepped foot in. The lack of cleanliness, poor management, and overall disregard for member safety is shocking.

To start, one of the employees here has no sense of responsibility—speeding through the parking lot and even parking in a disabled spot next to me. If this is how they act before even stepping inside, it’s clear they don’t take safety seriously.

Inside, the gym is absolutely disgusting. The floor mats are completely destroyed, making it unsafe and uncomfortable to work out. The front desk staff does nothing but stand around talking instead of restocking cleaning supplies, so members can’t even do their part to maintain hygiene.

I took videos and pictures at 7 AM on Sunday—right when they first opened. I don’t know about you, but a gym should never be this filthy when it first opens. It’s clear that this place is not maintained properly. It’s clear that this gym is run by completely unqualified people who have no interest in providing a decent experience.

Nice gym, non judgemental wide range of members. Doesn't matter if you're a body builder, or a novice just trying to work on a better you, everyone is accepted. Just come in and do you.

They keep the place well stocked and make repairs as needed. Things break, we all know that. They get repairs made and when you bring issues to the attention of the staff get them corrected.

Only real complaint is the pull handles for the cable machines get tied into knots because some people think they are extra special and need to motify things that can't easily be undone.

I really don’t think the lady even turns around to look at the kids ever. Leaving your kids with a stranger is already scary enough and then to drop them off and the lady not even speak to you while you are dropping them off but mumbling to the co worker is crazyyy. Way to really make the parent feel uncomfortable leaving them with you. My child sat in his own pee for an hour while I worked out. And I know it was super visible and you could easily see that. And to not even get a call about it. I swear those kids are basically in there unattended with no one watching them.

The place is fine, they have a lot of equipment. But powerlifting especially the rack area is disordered with the weights. And if you only want to exercise here for a couple of months, this might not be a good place. They have several "hidden" fees which is not shown on the website. There is an 50$ annual fee during the middle of the year and after canceled the membership, they will charge additional month fee. They told me that when I want to cancel the membership which makes me quite upset. I don't like their service, but the equipment is good to use. So if you plan to stay here for several years, this place might be a choice.

Extremely mid. The worst thing about this gym is that they are always playing annoying music. Sometimes absolutely BLASTING it to the point where I feel like I'm at a nightclub rather than a gym and I can't listen to a podcast or my own music. If your visit coincides with a class, then you can especially expect to leave with a headache.
They have a very good range of equipment and it's all at least functional. More treadmills, bikes, and ellipticals than I have ever seen used. However, there are some machines that there are only one or few of (fly, hip ad/abduction, benches) and if you go during normal hours (especially before/after work) your workout will inevitably be bottlenecked at one of these.
Thankfully they have pretty good hours (although not quite 24/5 as their sign suggests ) and if you go later at night or early in the morning, you can have a pretty calm workout if you get an employee who's willing to chill out with the music.
Pricing is the standard gym structure where you have to be on the lookout for tricks and read all the fine print. Don't let them sign you up for personal training or any extras and don't sign a long contract, and you should come away with an okay deal.

Their guest registration is a scam. My husband got an upgraded plan so I can go with him as a guest. However every time I visit the facility I have fill in a registration form. He returned a call very quickly showing responsiveness and resolved my issue in a very efficient and professional manner. When I signed up for the 25 dollar package, a special promotion made the first month 1 dollar. The "newly hired" assistant manager came out and told me that it was mandatory that I sign up for a "special kickoff" that required me to meet up with a personal trainer. I asked him if I had to spend the extra 10 dollars and told him that im a personal trainer and didnt need it. He said it was required. I later found out that it wasn't required and when he came back out to talk to me, he told me it was nonrefundable. I found out from his employee that he gets commission from getting people to sign up for it.

I came here for the first time last winter, and since last year, two of the three showers have always been temporarily closed. Last time, when a woman was taking a shower, I was shocked because the open shower door was so visible from the outside. Facilities for the disabled and elderly are even worse. The shower is broken and cannot be fixed, and the chair is dangerous as if it will break at any moment. Today I got cold in the shower so I had to come out with my shampoo on. They never repair or replace bad facilities.

Although they have a plethora of weights and equipment, the marketing is stealthily to point of deception. This is one of the best gyms I have been to. No other Crunch or gym in the area comes close to the cleanliness and variety they offer here. The employees are all very helpful and kind, and I have never had an issue once. 10/10 gym nothing in a 25 mile radius is beating this place.

Awful customer service and very shady business practices. I came in to cancel my account over 2 months ago, to which I’ve been charged for one month and they are continuing to try and charge me again. I have called numerous times over the last 3 weeks and told numerous times it would be taken care just for them to still be trying to charge me and not canceling my membership

I found the staff to be rude in comparison to other crunches I've been to. They can't answer question about equipment and the little boy at the counter ignored me when I tried to ask a question. Another one was visibly upset with ME because he didn't know how to charge my account because I'm from a different location. I couldn't find the equipment I needed either.

The person who signed me up lied about being able to cancel via phone. They also won't send me something to cancel online even though it is 2023, because they are banking on people not coming in and cancelling via their ridiculous channels. I signed up online using a tablet and website, with a digital signature, and I somehow cannot cancel through the same channel even though I was reassured multiple times by the agent who signed me up. I don't sign up for gyms that do not allow cancelling this way, so I was blatantly deceived into thinking that option was available to me so I'd sign up. The person I called today said I could "send a letter" via snail mail. Even if that's true, I have no reason to trust it given the current state of affairs. Plus it is not what I was told. I wasn't told I can "send a letter" to cancel. I was told I could call and cancel. But the representative told me, "that's not true." I know it's not true, but then it is the case that your workers lie and then the burden falls once again on the customers who give them money to operate yet another gym that pushes the envelope on borderline fraudulent and corrupt behavior. This is just the customer side, though. From what I've heard they also retaliate against their workers and mistreat them--things like this get around. So, the people who work for this place and the people who give them money both get screwed. Workers are also coerced into harassing new members with lots of sales calls for additional services. If you're new to Champaign, this place seems nice, but keep in mind what you are getting into. This is just another reason more busy people can't live healthy lifestyles; you just can't trust the lousy businesses who provide the services.

Almost noone at this gym reracks their weights. There are weights all over the floor and mismatched on the racks which adds a lot of time to your workout for those of us who respect the gym and other members.

I hired Nate Freeman as a personal trainer. What a fantastic experience! I had never used a personal trainer before; I always thought I could do it myself (boy was I wrong). Nate was very knowledgeable and motivating and tailored the workouts to my goals. Nate taught me proper form and got my lazy butt off the couch! His expertise has transformed my body and kick-started my fitness journey. I wake up now feeling like a different person. I strongly recommend Nate Freeman and Crunch Gym for a life-changing experience.

Nice gym, however, far too often employees do not show up on time on weekends to open the gym. And there is no contact phone number to let anyone know. For those of us who live out of town, it is quite a nuisance to drive all of the way here just to sit in the parking lot for 30 minutes waiting on someone to open the gym

This is a big gym with a lot of equipment and staff are friendly, but there needs to be more sanitation in the gym and one bathroom lock has been broken for weeks. Repairs take weeks to months to fix here.
