I went in for a cupping massage with Jane and had one of the best spa experiences! Jane was so knowledgeable and did an amazing job. The facility was beautiful and the staff was also very friendly. I’ll definitely be back!

The facilities at FFC are excellent. Plenty of equipment, always clean and the staff is great. If you are interested in working with a personal trainer, I can highly recommend Jeff. He’s helped me build strength and endurance while keeping my workouts varied.

The facility in Oak Park cannot be beat. The facility is first class. The breadth of equipment and services is incredible. The entire facility is clean and well managed. That said, the staff is attentive, engaging, and service oriented. I cannot think of a comparable health club in the surrounding area.

FFC Oak Park gets an A+ from me! FFC Oak Park employs the friendliest staff, and the club has the such talented & committed group fitness instructors, with numerous classes at a variety of time slot options. The club is clean and the workout machines are well maintained! Good job Jeff Long & FFC Oak Park!

I really hate it came to this, but my grandchild can NEVER come home crying from anywhere and I not react, especially not an alleged sports camp. Not to mention, the elders in my family always said to be careful of places who use "No refunds" as a disclaimer.

Stay away from the Hooper's Camp. It's way too intense, and the coach expects perfection all the time, or "effort" as he puts it, and picks and chooses when to say that the effort isn't enough, so as not to waste the customer's time or money. I now get why there were very few other kids participating in this camp during the time that my grandchild was there. Although there was plenty of arguments to the contrary, there was no genuine understanding of the fact that kids simply are not the same, and it's actually a form of microaggression to compare kids in sports or in general because they're not performing exactly as directed, or like other kids may be. So unless your child is perfect and doesn't have an "attitude" (as if kids ALWAYS ARE AND NEVER DO), or they're training for the Olympics, stay away from this camp. Your child may wind up in tears, scarred from an experience that was supposed to fun. Not boot camp.

It's against every rule to send a child home early from ANYWHERE, be it school or camp, without informing the parent/grandparent/ guardian FIRST, for that child's safety. Point blank, period. This would have been a whole other conversation had my grandchild's safety been compromised by being discharged from camp before the expected time.

Regardless of whatever personal feelings you may have, stay in your lane. Child psychologist and basketball coach are mutually exclusive.

Two stars because the classes/instructors are great and it’s a good location. Communication from management is truly poor and frustrating. Unsure why they don’t email members regarding when they’re doing upgrades or have outages. For example, the AC was out today resulting in a temp of 81, no email or even mention when I walked in. While leaving I mentioned to a team member that it would be super helpful if they communicated when there were outages via email so that people could better plan/prepare for their workouts. The team member shrugged and said they would eventually be fixing it. For almost $300 a month, I would think they could send out a heads up email! Some equipment is outdated (primarily machines on the mezzanine level and the overall vibes), but I have seen some newer equipment (several new stairmasters). One other frustration is that there are only bathrooms on the 3rd floor in the locker rooms which can be a hike from the workout areas. Also, the recovery lounge has changing hours and from what I can tell is not open after 5ishpm on any Friday. Overall, pretty mid gym.

I have been a member of FFC Oak Park since the day it opened in 2007. Has been a great experience, as I feel it provides the value for the price charged.
My son also started going to FFC for basketball camps (Kids Hoopers) with coach Erik since June 2023. He enjoys the sessions, and has developed his basketball skills and learning to push himself to do better. Coach Erik expects that the kids puts in the effort, which I as a parent also expect. I am there for every session my son has been there since June 2023, and really like how he makes the learning fun and yet develops them into young men and women.
The general manager, Jeff Long, has done a tremendous job keeping FFC Oak Park a health facility that people of all ages and background want to call their gym.

This is for their swim lessons! Really knowledgable teachers, small kid to teacher ratio, my 5 yo actually learned how to swim well after only a month (compared to months at other places). The Swim Director Angelic is thoughtful and responsive, and they assess and give updates on your child's progress regularly.
The pool water is a teensy bit cold for my kid, hence the 4 stars, but overall this is the best swim lessons experience I've had in our area! Highly recommend!

I came into the gym to find out about membership workout etc the lady at the front desk didn't look up from whatever she was doing on her phone until she noticed I wouldn't walk away and then I'm saying I'm not a member she asked if I knew a member and if I wanted to work out I said yes she said we close in 30 minutes so there's no point in me paying for a $40 day pass which may have been true but this was a horrible first impression will not be back to this location especially not during her shift

To be basically 200 a month, they don’t have great equipment. That’s not saying the machines aren’t great they are fine. Of course commercial gyms will focus on cardio equipment vs strength. To not even have the same brand of plates, designated Olympic bars, and more platforms is insane. And let’s be honest FFC is money grabbing. 125 to sign up? Crazy but what’s even crazier is if you want to add a household member later on you STILL have to pay their sign up fee. You’re paying for location as well. I still prefer this gym because its close and is better than other gyms I’ve toured and crazy enough if you want a gym that isn’t planet fitness or CrossFit/HYROX or a random garage someone bought and turned it into a workout factory this gym isn’t terrible.

Clean, with good yoga instructors, but poorly designed. No stairs up to the gym, the locker and bathrooms 2 flights up. Not well designed at all. I also want to point out that the cell reception is terrible for most carriers and their Wi-Fi is abysmal. Really poorly designed, no network access in the locker rooms.

Good spot for a workout. Speaking of the court, they just revarnished the floor because it was all marked up by shoes with black soles. But a week later, the floor was marked up again with black sole marks. They need to ban shoes that mark up the new varnished floor.

Facilities are exquisite. Staff is friendly. Only gripe is that the elevators are constantly down. Not both just one. The wait to get one isn’t bad but to be smushed up 12 deep in an elevator full of geriatrics is tough. Also the fitness director Mario has great glutes and is always helpful.

Source: Google

★ 2

Been a member since summer of 2021 and I’m considering cancelling my membership simply because the state of the facility isn’t worth the expense.

First off, the only way to access the gym is by elevator. There are only two elevators that seem to be ancient, and only one has been operational for the last year. Therefore everyone is always crowding around the lobby waiting for the chance to get upstairs, and are often late for the classes they’re signed up for as a result.

There are never any towels available in the locker room or on the gym floor, there are maybe only 2 showers that have any water pressure or warm water, at least one of the showers has a broken knob so you can only choose between ice water or boiling, some showers have broken locks, the steam room is no warmer than the yoga studio, and after years of expressing that they need to offer boxing classes or more circuit classes, nothing has changed.

The second floor mezzanine could be much better used for boxing classes than just having treadmills up there. There’s already more than enough treadmills and ellipticals on the main fitness floor.

I was also less than impressed with the physical therapy offered by Rush at this location. The office is too small and many times you have to do your PT exercises on a massage table in an adjacent room. Poorly planned.

Might as well just sign up for the YMCA since there’s nothing remotely luxurious or innovative about this place that warrants their membership pricing.

The gym isn’t clean and the employees act like they don’t want to be there. We were members of FFC in the past and it was a very different experience. It seems like they’ve just become complacent. I called to cancel and the person I spoke to lived up to my description. It seemed like I was interrupting what he was doing. He said they want to charge me for another month. When I said I’d like to speak to the manager he said “she’ll call when she can”. Really disappointing for the amount of money we pay to be members.

Snubby and overpriced but back when I would go in October it was good gym, not crowded and fresh equipment, everything new or like new. Great bball court. Pool lanes reserved and they’ll kick u out for even trying a lot of the time, which they do tell you in advance about but still feels terrible bc you’re paying an incredible amount for this gym that includes this pool, right, but you’re still liable to getting Rosa Parksed for being Caucasian and then going to get an energy drink and you’re told it’s $5 and so you walk back downstairs empty handed having not not been able to use the pool and you just leave and cancel your membership.

Constant price increases with no real upgrades. Prices went up from around $99 to $109 and now $129 in just under a year . Filthy showers and bathrooms. For $129 a month, you would expect it to be more premium and not equivalent to LA Fitness.

Getting bold with the price increases when Orangetheory is right next door for the same price and WAY better machines.

👎😡

I was a member for over a year. I was thinking about joining again but I will not due to:

-Consistent, daily presence of f*ntanyl add*cts directly outside the gym on Lake street / Harlem ave targeting cars and pedestrians

👎🤢

-Consistent g*rbage and f*lth including human excr*ment on the sidewalks of Lake street / Harlem ave

👎💰

-The gym itself was decent but for the price paid I expect superior quality and service both of which were lacking specifically:

-Shower area cleanliness. Visible evidence the shower stalls had not been deep cleaned in years, i.e. red mildew film / human grease on the glass stalls and around the hardware.

👎⚒️

-They closed down the locker rooms for weeks and did an entire renovation of locker rooms, yet reinstalled the same f*lthy old shower stalls into the new space, mildew / grease and broken/ shoddy hardware intact

I started my membership in the fall with the intention to go back once the weather warmed up, but after my experience with the spa front desk and membership staff, BIG NO.

+1 for the training staff.

My personal trainer Kelvin. I enjoyed my sessions with him. The workouts and knowledge he shared added value to my life. 100% recommend if you decide to train at this location.

Spin class with Amy. I was new to spin and it meant a lot to me that she took the time to help me adjust, multiple times lol. She encourages you to push yourself, but to concern yourself with your pace and not the pace of those around you.

+1 for the general staff and cleanliness of the gym. The eucalyptus towels reacted with my skin, but they are a nice touch. I had the premier membership, but didn’t get a chance to use their laundry system. I air dry my workout clothes, so it was a pass for me. The general staff was welcoming.

-1 for terrible communication.

The General Manager, Jeff Long, sends out multiple emails but getting a reply from him would be a miracle. Asking to set a meeting up with him through membership? Another impossible task.

Membership reps and the spa front desk staff are not on the same page. This caused me lose $176.

-1 for the lack of integrity.

I purchased a massage that was set to expire January 16. I ended my membership in October and have been trying to set up an appointment with the spa since then before my expiration. The spa told me I still had access to the spa and would be able to set up an appointment with them after my membership cancellation. I was advised my account would just transfer with my massage as a non member. After I cancelled my membership and tried to make an appointment the spa said my account wasn’t transferred. The spa referred me to membership. I go to membership and they said there wasn’t an account to transfer. So apparently the massage I purchased was entirely out of the system, convenient for them. Fortunately, I had my receipt but somehow that didn’t matter to FFC.

Gabriel Carino ghosted me after trying to set up an appointment since he “couldn’t see the proof of my receipt due to their email system unable to show attachments.” I later found that was a lie because the Dietitian at FFC, who uses the same email system, was able to see my e-mail attachment of my insurance card.

-1 for their equipment. The rock climbing wall. Part of me joining FFC was to utilize their rock climbing wall. I was told it would be staffed on Saturdays. Never saw it staffed. I expected more up to date equipment for the price. The equipment they have is equivalent to LA Fitness / Golds Gym. If you don’t use the squat rack, basketball court, or pool then you are wiser to get a membership somewhere like Planet Fitness. They didn’t have a sauna. It is cheaper to maintain a sauna versus a steam room. They had a steam room, but you are required to wear a bathing suit. Hygienic purposes.

I paid for a premier membership and it wasn’t giving premier. My funds are better allocated with LifeTime.

Personally my family has probably been members for almost 2 decades and we’ve never asked for anything special. Today I walked over to the gym from my house which can take about 15 mins but when I got there everything was closed. Before I left my house I checked that it was Memorial Day and it said “hours might differ” which already I think is Ridiculous. With the price I’m paying I’d like to have assurance. I showed up and at the same time maybe 4 other people who had also read online that the gym was still open. I called to check in and the message told me they were also closed and then proceeded to read me hours they are open which was when I was there. I got there at 7pm on a Monday. A gym closing at 7pm is already pretty ridiculous but then proceeding to not let people know you close early and make all the members go on a wild goose chase just to find out the gym is closed very poor customer service. I have never complained about anything about this gym and neither has my family and while I’m
writing this review I’m reading others issues and seeing that FFC isn’t taking in peoples reviews to further better there gym but are instead trying to prove people wrong. VERY POOR

After about a year or so of deciding if I wanted to join FFC and commit to what I knew would be a pricey gym membership, I decided it would be worth the investment. Prior to walking over, I took some time and read many reviews about this location, some great, many not so great, with the not so great reviews centering around poor customer service. I am here to say “buyer beware” and take note of the reviews, the poor customer service reviews are on point. Before going to this location to enroll, I called to ensure someone would in fact be available to support the enrollment and was informed that someone was in fact there, but would be “leaving soon, so I should probably come over sooner than later”. With that, I walked over and found 2 ppl waiting and 1 person being served by the lone employee working enrollments. I sat down and patiently waited 45 minutes for my turn. When the last customer wrapped up, a guy walks in an sits down, wherein the “customer service” employee announces “ok who is next”, which I truly did not believe as she saw when I walked in earlier. At this time the guy says he had a 2:30 appointment and she immediately takes care of him. No asking if he wouldn’t mind waiting 5 minutes to even see what I needed, no sincere apology, no offering of ANYTHING REMOTELY RELATED TO WELL DOCUMENTED CUSTOMER SERVICE ETIQUETTE, just….”I’m the only one here and what more can I do for you” comment. Listen, people have options, and yes the labor force is a competitive one, but FFC, do better. You are not Planet Fitness. People pay more here for elevated standards. Teach these children you have managing your operations what real customer service is supposed to look like or continue to waste your $ on marketing when stellar customer service and word of mouth via good reviews is how you build and sustain a strong viable business.

Even in the beginning of now Feb 2021 I asked them to stop charging me and cancel the membership. I had to finally cancel the card. Now they want me to pay for Feb and March and a late fee on top of that. Unfair financial and business practices against their loyal customers during a tough situation for the general public. Due to COVID-19, I haven’t been to FFC since February. They closed temporarily and put my account on hold. I appreciated that. Decided to wait and see what would happen and when/if I would be returning. In August, I decided I wanted to cancel my membership as new covid cases were still rising. I emailed Ashley Peterson requesting to cancel my membership. She emailed me a simple form to complete the cancellation . Apparently, they never received the form or there was an error with their system because I found out the next month when I was charged again for my membership the cancellation wasn’t acknowledged. Sent another email stating my desire to cancel. It is now November and I still received another automatic debit from my account for my membership I attempted to cancel back in August. I resubmitted the cancellation form and requested a refund for the past 3 months after my initial cancellation request. Let’s see if they charge me again in December! Why can’t they be decent and recognize I have attempted to cancel since August and haven’t used the gym since February! Please STOP CHARGING ME!!!

FFC as a whole (not just OP) has frustrated me for a while now but yesterday was more or less the final straw and confirmation that cancelling my membership is the right decision. I called about family swim and they told me it was going to be $10 however when I got there I was charged $12. Lady at the counter didn't seem to care at all that I was told the wrong price over the phone less than 1hr prior. While $2 isn't going to break my bank it's the principle of the situation that bothered me, especially since there was only 2hrs left of family swim vs the 4hr window.

I have been a member since they were still on construction back in 2006 or 2007 (cant remember )
This has been my happy place and my luxury item.
FFC removes most of the obstacles that would prevent me from working out. They provide towels, toiletries, parking for 2 hours, keep equipment in working conditions and clean.
They are a little sneaky about increasing their fees. The first year I receive a letter stating that FFC refuses to increase their fees every year. Instead they will have a 1TIME $100 fee. This was done for 3 or 4 year until they finally decided to be more open and just increase the membership fee EVERY YEAR.

Unfortunately for me, they have increased their cost and average of 12% per year. So after being a member for over 12 years my membership has doubled, pricing me out. I understand they feel this must be done in order to keep an inclusive environment.

I am as of now checking my options for other gyms.. not because FFC is not good but simply because the annual increases.

But great Gym, great location if you can afford.

Worst ffc I've been to, threatened to call the police on me for dropping the weights a couple of times, I legitimately was trying to deadlift quieter but no matter what I did, they would aggressively complain. I love ffc, but this location please avoid at all cost if you're serious about lifting. It's essentially a $150 version of planet fitness, so if that's what you're looking for this is the place to be!!

I joined about two weeks ago and am so annoyed I didn’t join sooner!! I have been a member of multiple gyms and classes before but nothing compares to this place. It literally has everything from lifting equipment to a full court to pool and cardio equipment. I could not believe that with my membership (I have the very lowest tier), I gained unlimited access to this gym, all of the equipment, classes, pool, sauna, whirlpool and more. Now if you need to use more than one location you can upgrade your membership and some memberships also include things like laundry service and massages. There is a spa, cafe, and store if you want/need these things additionally and I love buying a smoothie after my morning workouts. I also used my three personal training classes and had an awesome time with Jacob! He was super knowledgeable and showed me new equipment and exercises to break up my lifting routine. I love coming here and highly recommend. As a plus - my membership with all of this is CHEAPER than my orange theory membership (again had the lowest price for them) AND my friends membership at a local YMCA.

------Gym Quality Overview

A crowded gym with some exceptional amenities. You would expect the premium price would drive the gym to be less crowded but its' quite the opposite.

Due to this, you are face with partitioning time in this gym. You have two hours to complete your workout routine which can be quite difficult if you are waiting for highly contested equipment such as a squat rack. This is only prevalent on the weekdays usually in the 4pm-7pm range.

Again, I stress you partition your schedule for an early bird or night owl schedule during the weekday. Especially, if you would like to fit your workout routine in a 2 hour interval.

The weekends are usually not crowded and all routines can be finished in a timely manner (Splits or Full body, Volume/Intensity of routine does not matter)

If you do any sporting activities, they can add substantial value on your overall experience at this gym. I mean they have a rock climbing wall, basketball court, and a lap pool. Given the amount of space, It's quite a feat they fit this all in this gym.

-------Staff

A very weird pre-sale experience but expected from any gym I have gone through. The team overall were extremely friendly and I have never been harassed by any staff member.

-----Cost

Please understand this gym has a huge underlying cost. I use this as a motivating factor when I am doing a 1RM on my heavy days. If you sign up during the special event, DO EVERYTHING IN THE FINE PRINT. That means get a trainer (Shoutout to Justin) and go 36 of the 90 days. After that, you will enjoy the experience much more knowing you can use the enrollment fee as leverage for anything within the confines of their establishment.

---Final Thoughts

You need to understand that this gym is an expensive endeavor. I would never recommend this gym to anyone that would only use 50% or less of the establishment and have gym commitment issues. Otherwise, the gym is great for fitness enthusiast. 4/5 Stars given the constraints of the gym.

My experience so far with FFC Oak Park after joining it less than a week ago:

Sales staff - 1 star
I came in and did the tour of the club with one of the staff members. No follow up after my visit was done. Working In sales myself it’s a bit concerning that sales staff doesn’t follow up at all. I came back myself a week after the tour and asked to fill out the forms to join. I was suggested that the staff member who showed me around originally will follow up at a later time and I can come back to join because that staff member was not working at the time I came in. To me since there is no follow up was made I really don’t think the staff member earned any credit. I waited for about 15 minutes when another staff member was available and completed my enrollment. While most gyms nowadays have enrollment fees ($195 at FFC), this is the first time I am hearing about annual fee 🤷🏻‍♀️. Annual fee is not on any brochures and never mentioned during the initial tour. Most frustrating part to me was neither staff member explained how I will be entering the gym. No info given about the phone app that I needed to download in order to scan it at the entrance while visiting the gym. After I signed the forms sales staff really didn’t care about giving any additional info about the app, how to use promo $100, etc. I also found it weird that I must provide my routing and checking info to the gym. I have never done it at any gym before.

I took a yoga class with Alex and also made a spa appointment with Jason. Both were great and accomadating.

Most disturbing item of all is how dirty the floors were in yoga studio. Everyone entered the studio in either outside shoes or gym shoes. I’ve never seen it in other gyms. Usually you are required to leave shoes outside the doors and enter bear feet or in socks. Because of that there was dirt and pieces of salt from the outside on the floor.
People at FFC we’re entering wearing gym shoes at minimum (or winter boots) and placing them on the side of the mat during the workout. On top of that most people at the class did not utilize locker room and placed coats, bags and other items all over the floor and side of the room while practicing yoga.
The gym should place a shoe shelving outside of the studio and require no shoes in the room, additionally locker room should be required for everyone attending the class. There were over 40 people at the class and almost no room to move, extra classes needs to be added or feature on the website or app with a “sign up” for a class with set limits.

I wish I knew about dirt floors and almost no rules at FFC before joining.

My self and my family have been members for over 10 years at the Oak Park Location. We have had at least two incidents with our child and young adult where a trainer or instructor have behaved inappropriately. Just today a white male yoga instructor yelled at my daughter because she walked into his class that had ended. He got in her personal space put his fingers in her face. When she demanded he move, he kicked her mat. This happened in front of people who all proceeded to leave the room. We are members, we pay like everyone else. I do believe this man treated my 22 year old daughter this way because she is black. I do believe that these people continue to work for FFC because they are white, and typically the grievance's of black and brown people go with out penalty or resolution. We are not letting this go until this man is fired, and FFC apologizes to our family.

There are free group classes available starting at 5:45am and running until about 9pm. There is also basketball court, pool, and spa lounge. The staff is friendly (shout out to Barrett Lewis) and I have yet to witness any altercations. This is a very nice gym that has all the traits a perfect gym has. It is pretty pricey especially if you have a whole family that wants a membership. You can either use your ffc card or the app were they just scan the barcode. The changing rooms are really nice and clean and the staff are really nice. They have 8 showers and lockers were you put your own code in. The pool is nice and clean and not that busy on days other then the weekend. The café food is tasty and totally healthy for you! The café staff isn't as nice as the janitor staff though. Free fitness classes you can simply join :) I totally recommend it

I have a lot to say about this gym.

The good: The amenities here are excellent! Anything you can think of needing, they have. Rock climbing wall, pool, any and every type of cardio equipment, a huge variety of weight lifting equipment. On the other side, they have great towel service, friendly staff, nice showers with soap and shampoo provided, nice lockers with combinations so you don't need to bring a lock, etc. Parking is difficult in this area, but they validate parking for the parking garage immediately behind the gym and a back door allows you to easily slip from the parking garage to the gym. The trainers I've worked with are very practical, kind, and not intimidating. They encourage health, not extremes. The cafe is very nice as well. They also have on-site childcare.

The bad: The hours aren't the greatest and the childcare hours are even worse. The childcare is also much more expensive than other gyms in the area. I often felt intimidated here by other gym-goers, unlike other gyms I've used. The classes are way too crowded for me to enjoy them, though they do have good variety. It's pretty pricey, and it's not very easy to cancel your membership!

Overall, I'd support a friend who wanted to sign up here, but I wouldn't recommend it outright!

As for the facility it is always tidy, clean and well-maintained. People are very nice there.

The gym is a nice facility, but I'm not a fan of how they treat business accounts. I had a negative experience with DJ who handles their billing. I reached out to cancel the accounts for each of our employees after we moved office locations, but they failed to highlight that each employee needs to cancel each account separately. Despite the fact that I mentioned that I had setup an employee at the gym. The answer I was given by the rep I spoke with at the time of cancellation was "no this will cancel all related accounts." Three months later they continued to bill me for a gym membership that my employee was not using and they refuse to refund the charges. I would recommend considering a gym with a more accountable/ethical management team.

I'm new to the area and I was looking to join a fitness club. Im a member at lifetime fitness currently and when I signed up 4 years ago I paid a enrollment fee (which I understand for the sales person and start up cost ) but , the FFC concept of charging different start up cost base on "crowd control" is very unprofessional. I called the old town location and if I was to use just that location it would be 1/3 the start up cost then the same location in oak park. Creating a loyal customer is worth a lot more then a start up cost. The monthly dues is what keeps the crowd control down. 65 FFC, 39 la fitness , x-sport 34. Your price is the crowd control, not the enrollment fee.

It's not very kid friendly in my opinion. Kids hours are only from 1-5 Saturday and Sunday, which gives them access to climbing wall(which is great) and pool. But the gym is still open to 250 lbs guys trying to rain three pointers from half court during this time, so pretty scary for 32 lbs 4 year old.....The kids have no access to pool or climbing way at any other time. I think they think this is some hip singles place, but the reality is that your in middle of family friendly oak park/river forest.

If I were FFC I would provide winter play hours with more availability to swimming pool and gym two to three nights week before you call this place kids friendly....My gym in Lincoln park...Lakeshore Athletic you could almost always take your kid swimming...here you get 8 hours a week....god forbid you miss those or you get nothing.....Poor insight from the management on this one.

I joined the gym in June. I have been hesitant to join for over a year due to the insane amount of money for the initiation fee - which I was told was used for maintenance etc. Thus far - only 4 months into the enrollment - I am not impressed with the atmosphere for the amount of money I paid for initiation as well as the monthly fee I pay for a family. Let's start with the amount of equipment that seems to be out of working order. Then there is the empty cooler in the cafe area that is just sitting there with absolutely nothing in it. It gives an appearance of a place going out of business. The entire gym looks a bit tired in it's decor and the locker rooms are not as clean as one would expect. In addition to this - there are some rude staff members. Our first family day we were a bit late in leaving the facility. The kids were done and waiting with my husband in the cafe area - a staff member rudely told him that family day was over. It was only 10 minutes after 5.

What I think is great about the gym - most staff members are helpful - there are folks that remember your name and help you out. The trainers are great. I just think that we should see some benefits from the amount of $$ we pay for initiation.

In response to Ann S. that was complaining about family days and swim time and your vulgar description of children - we pay enough for kids to go to the gym - so get over it. Our family also had a membership at the Y when they were younger - we had it for many years so not afraid of "poor" as you describe. And I think if you knew who the members were at the Y then you would know that there are many people of different socioeconomic status that belong to the Y. You're ridiculous! If you don't like kids - and you obviously knew that was part of the gym memberships at FFC (allowing kids on certain days) then you should have joined elsewhere! Don't let the door hit you in your dumb- arse!

I've been trying to get into the habit of working out since middle school and I haven't been able to develop a consistent and effective routine until these last two months (and I'm 48 now) since I joined FFC Oak Park. Granted, I don't necessarily need *this* gym to stay in shape, but the convenience it provides has been a critical differentiator for me. And I finally had to admit I need help staying on track. The trainers, the staff, and the other members are also indispensable to my staying focused. I came in on Independence Day 2014 and the place was packed. Daily, I see old, young, fat, skinny, injured, disabled, all going at it. Yup, it's pricey, and possibly near the upper end of what I'm willing to pay. But I get the sense that they're responsive to customers. They make mistakes, like everyone, but I trust that the high fees translate into a greater willingness of the owners' and managers' to adjust and improve whenever possible.

It's main advantage is that it is the only act in town. It is clean, most machines are functioning, and has a good assortment of equipment. However, it offers way more than I care to use or pay for --- climbing wall, yoga studio --- sneaks in 'extra' charges with vague explanation, is usually crowded and noisy --- what's with all the flat screens, anyway, are you there to work out and pay attention to your body?, and the free weight section is limited, the personal trainers are always training their client in major traffic lanes --- use the empty rooms!. Frankly, for over 1200$ annually for my wife and myself, not worth the money and we are actively searching for another fitness center.

Strengths:
Good location
Appealing aesthetics
Hip/Trendy

Weakness:
Hidden Fees ($120 in November 2013 to most members)
High monthly dues
Horrible customer service
Low ethical standards

Overall FFC Oak Park is the popular/hip gym in Oak Park and located in downtown Oak Park. That is where their strengths end.

My contract stated that FFC has the right to charge any fee at any time after the initial period. With the initial period being one month. In September 2013 I received a notice stating that FFC is charging me an additional $120 in November 2013. This fee would be almost twice my monthly dues (requiring me to pay almost 3-months dues in November). I would be required to pay $185 for my individual monthly gym membership in November (with access to only Oak Park's location). This is a shock especially since I just joined FFC within the past year.

I attempted to request why I was being assessed the November fee. I was told that it was like a condo association fee (I didn't really understand that explanation), was given a copy of my contract with a phrase stating that FFC could charge anything they wanted after the initial period of my contract. I asked to know when my initial period ends or ended and was told that I needed to consult an attorney. Needless to say I cancelled my membership immediately to avoid paying the fee.

The best part of it is that they have 6 staff members at the kid's club all the time, which means you don't need to call them before going there, like Bally, or it never gets full, unlike YMCA. My daughter likes to go there, too! I also like the people exercising there. You see young/old and skinny/chubby people. I go there to exercise & relax at the same time.

Very expensive club. The physical facilities are very nice. The ONLY reason I belong is that its close. If there were another even semi-comparable place nearby, I'd leave this place.

I had my locker broken into. I had about $200 in cash stolen. It took me a week of trying to track someone responsible down. Every time I went there, it was "well, he's not here right now..." Finally, I met with the creepy looking manager. There is something subtly "wrong" about this guy.. "Well, that's really too bad, but there's nothing we can do for you. There's no proof." This, despite I show him my police report, and he CONFIRMS the locker's lock was physically broken into.

Not a free massage, not a free month, not a refund, not even much sympathy. Nothing but a "I dont really care" non-apology.

The personal trainers park themselves and their clients on equipment and get very little done. True story: I get to the club and a white male trainer and white male client are using the power rack/squat rack. I do not interrupt. I wait more than 10 minutes. In those 10 minutes, I kid you not, the client does 2 sets of an exercise which does not require the equipment. They walk away from the equipment for probably 3 or 4 minutes, nowhere to be seen.

Without breaking down their barbell, I set up a barbell for squats. After I do my first set, the trainer confronts me. Not asks a question: CONFRONTS. I am not doing into details, but I was nice about it, and he was a total jerk. The trainers think they own the place.

The basketball court draws a bunch of young guys who mostly want to hang around, and creates a sort of strange dynamic in what purports to be an upscale club. I wonder how these young guys afford the initiation fee I had to pay, and the high monthly charges.

Super crowded from maybe 4:30 til maybe 8 pm, so working "off hours" is your best bet.

You get a free workout towel and that is about the only extra. But they put TOO MUCH bleach in the wash water. If you have sensitive skin, do not wipe your sweaty face with one, or you'll get skin irritation.

Its a pretty gym. They charge a lot. They should be more focused on making their customers happy.
