I know I’m not the only one upset by this and this isn’t the only location it happens at, but who is in charge of customer relations? Why do you have staff members go around yelling we close in 10 minutes but it’s only 25 minutes to close? What happened to your intercom system? Or do you have staff members go around yelling abruptly because “it works better”? You guys already cut hours everywhere even the Xsports you guys bought. Customer retention is everything in business. Revise your business model because numbers may tell a story but they don’t tell you how it ends. Don’t mind people that speak up like me but the ones who just cancel their membership and don’t provide feedback. Time to move on.

I signed up for LA Fitness at the end of May. My very first experience with this gym was actually as a guest about two years ago. Back then the gym was packed, so I completely understood the “appointment-only” policy — it was difficult to get a full workout in during those busy hours. They rescheduled me for another day and provided a guest pass, which ended up being a much better experience. The gym was less crowded, the staff took their time with me, and when I officially signed up they even gave me a free water bottle.

I usually come in during the mornings, and I believe the general manager, Gonzalez, is the one who’s always cleaning and taking care of the gym himself. What stands out is that he still talks to me the same way he did from day one — respectful, welcoming, and genuinely friendly. He’s the type of manager who remembers you, makes you feel comfortable, and creates a positive atmosphere for everyone who walks in. It really feels like he sets the tone for the whole club.

The equipment is well-maintained, the gym is cleaner than most places I’ve been to, and the staff is consistent when it comes to customer service. I’ve been a member for months now, and I can honestly say I plan to stay for years to come. It’s a great environment, great team, and a place that truly motivates you to keep showing up.

Joined two months ago impressed with cleanliness in gym and locker room. Some staff greet you upon arrival. Mostly go in the morning it’s busy but not crowded. Like Body Works class with Becky Jo and Zumba with Lupita. My only complaint when classes are in session people should not be allowed to come in and do their own workouts on the side. Really like this location

This was the worst customer service I've ever experienced!! I signed up for a free day because I had just moved into the area and i was trying to find a new gym. A worker named Gonzon was helping and was nice at first, but then became passive-aggressive, trying to get me to sign up for a membership ,when I just wanted to try out the gym. Asking if I had enough money to pay, and kept saying I don't understand why I won't sign up for a membership. Toward the end of us talking if liek an argument and I had enough, and I had to leave because I was getting so angry! Overall, it was the most aggravating and annoying experience. when I was just trying to use a free day. To see if I like the gym. Would not recommend anyone to go here!!!!

I stopped going there when my wallet was stolen from the locker room, when I told the front desk people about it, the told me to go and check in the trash (I was desperate, so I went) but they didn't do anything about it to help. Well they started calling me to tell the payment didn't went though a few times. So no I am not going there again IS NOT A SAFE PLACE

Would give 0 stars if I could. The gym itself is solid. Wish they kept up with the equipment more but generally I can get a solid workout in when I go. My issue is their CUSTOMER SERVICE. I’ve been trying to cancel my membership for at least 6 months now. I had to move out of the country unexpectedly and was not able to cancel in person as you can only cancel with a Supervisor Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. I tried to cancel in person as they said and no one was around to do this. I’ve kept my card locked and have told every representative that I have spoken with that I’m not able to even use my membership and have been trying to cancel but can’t come in person. Then someone said, “oh, they’re going to cancel it for you because it’s been lapsed so long anyway. “ Then I can an invoice email and I tried to email them back letting them know that I’ve been trying to cancel this. AND THEN, I got charged today and when I called rightfully frustrated, they tell me that I can fill this form out online and they won’t gif end a refund because I haven’t made any attempts to cancel it…. When I’ve been attempting for almost 6 months …

Don't get screwed or lied to. "Hey, I'll throw in a free session if you get 8." SURE WHY NOT, why would he lie right? How naive of me to just sign away and not fully read the contract. If you have someone throwing money at you paying for a membership and PT sessions on the spot ... why burn your bridge for future business? 8/30/25:Wow, can’t believe it’s been a year since I posted the original review and nothing has changed!! Imagine walking in as soon as the gym is opened and there are no weights on the racks. I wonder what the employees who work here do.. oh I know sit and pick their noses..literally saw that. Anyway they comment on my post that a manager would reach out to me but didn’t.there will be an updated picture of how the racks look

I can’t believe majority of the people there don’t believe in putting the weights back on the rack. The weights are all over the place. 10-30 pounds are never on the rack. The treadmills are not all working some don’t incline some don’t even go the speed they are going.
I feel like if they hire someone to clean the gym over night instead of 5am would be great.

There’s all type of weights everywhere. I think it’s time to invest on the cleanliness of the gym

Two stars are solely for Jenny at the front desk, who consistently greets members with kindness, and for the cleaning staff, who maintain a clean and welcoming environment.

However, the overall experience at this location is impacted by inconsistent service—particularly when it comes to guest pass policies and customer care. While other LA Fitness locations offer flexibility and support, this branch seems to operate differently.

A recent interaction with Gonzales highlighted a serious gap in customer service. He lacks the communication and problem-solving skills needed to support members effectively. When a guest pass issue was raised—something promised at sign-up—he insisted he couldn’t honor it because the employee who offered it was no longer with the company. That reasoning doesn’t reflect well on the brand, as commitments made at sign-up should be honored by LA Fitness, not tied to individual staff members.

Even more frustrating was the approach: interrupting a workout to discuss his limited appointment availability, then asking to sit down—not to assist, but to argue the policy. No alternative solutions were offered, and the interaction felt unnecessarily rigid and dismissive.

I’ve been a regular for over three years, and I’ve purchased personal training sessions here. To be treated with such indifference and lack of customer care was incredibly frustrating. His refusal to help and dismissive tone left a lasting impression—for the wrong reasons.

It’s disgusting to be in this place! The first thing I noticed in the sauna today was a pamper left on the bench. Management told me they'd take care of the issue. I returned after an hour to find it still there.

Weights are never put back where they belong. Also, can the company do something about the rust on this outdoor sunroof?

Dishonest staff, not all of the staff were dishonest and I would like to thank the two that helped me and were honest. When it was 9:40pm and I was going to leave after getting out of the sauna I've noticed my bag was missing. Being that it was late there wasn't anybody around, but I've noticed the cleaning lady walking by. When I came out I immediately noticed that my bag with wallet, keys, etc. was missing. I immediately alerted the staff about this and the first man that helped me was nothing but dismissive and combative. I've mentioned that I only saw the cleaning lady walking by and that perhaps she took it. The man was suddenly on the defensive without checking cameras or anything saying that I didn't see her take it and that I was wrong for accusing her. I asked him to check the lost and found, but he didn't find anything. I've also asked him to call the cleaning lady, which he did, but when she answered the phone she said she never taken any bags. I insisted he check the staff rooms, but being it was almost closing time he was reluctant to do so, but eventually he did after some persistence. He claims he checked and couldn't find anything. Only after I demanded they do something about it and made a scene, another two staff members stepped in and offered to check again. This time they were able to find my bag. I don't understand why it was not brought into lost and found immediately and kept in the back, which suggest that there's definitely foul play involved. The cleaning lady saying she didn't find anything reinforces this as how else would it have ended up in the staff rooms. Unfortunately I was too riled up to get the name of the rude and dismissive fellow and the cleaning lady, but to anyone coming here please be wary of your belongings. It's not the guest you have to worry about, but the staff.

My review have nothing to do with condition of the gym or the staff members. It has to do with guest pass. On the guest pass there is no statement says you need to call ahead and schedule to use the the guest pass. It says show to activate the guest pass. This policy definitely discourage me from even recommending anyone to try the gym for potential sign up. I was debating which gym would I sign up for long term before this experience.

The gym looks decent when it’s empty, but that’s about the only time it’s usable. During peak hours, forget about getting an efficient workout. People treat the place more like a social club than a gym—machines are constantly occupied by folks just chatting, and it’s nearly impossible to get a full session in without waiting around.

To make matters worse, no one puts their weights back, so you end up spending more time hunting for equipment than actually using it. The locker room and bathroom also have a consistently unpleasant smell, which makes the whole experience even less appealing.

At $50 a month, this place is a joke. You can easily find a cleaner, more organized, and better-managed private gym for the same price—if not cheaper.

Wouldn’t recommend unless you’re going at off-hours and have a lot of patience.

This place has gotten worse by the month. They front staff needs to be not afraid to address people clearly in the wrong. Maybe I'm wrong but when is it ok to have a child running around the gym where there are heavy weights and not say a word to the parents. The parents were being so ignorant to the front desk people asking to babysit her at 9pm and they said no because daycare is closed but they still allowed her to work out there while this kid is everywhere. They should not be working there if they can't handle tough ignorant people. Imagine if that kid had slammed her face into a machine.

It's only good to come here at 5am or 10am to 12pm after that GOOD LUCK.

Jenny has great phone etiquette! Also the Manager i can’t quite remember her name but she’s super nice and has great communication skills. Gym is just like any other Esporta or LA tons of people during peak hours. I have gone on super busy days and still manage to get a good workout in. Plenty of parking. Relatively safe area not much going on in the parking lot. Cleaning staff is top notch I have yet to see a full garbage can. Keep in mind thousands of people come here everyday. Staff is working all throughout the gym so they might miss a wipe or two that a lazy guest left on the floor of the machine they were using. I’ve been with LA for about 5 years and I can’t say I’ve had an issue yet. Never had an issue with staff. They always know the answers to all my questions. I occasionally take my son to the daycare and the daycare people are nice too. Sometimes when their short I’ll see some of the sales guys working the daycare, might throw some moms off but my son never has any issues or complaints either. Trainers I can’t speak much on because I personally have never worked with them but I have spoke with a few and their nice people as well. Overall cool gym I have been coming here almost every day for the past year so I think I have a pretty good overall experience of this location. My home gym is actually the 55th location but I honestly would rather take the drive to this location because it’s just a lot more spacious and feels less cluttered than the 55th location. Thank you guys keep up the good work.

This gym is always disgusting, I go there before 2 pm & the janitor lady is always talking to her friends which is annoying since she closes the only bathroom & doesn’t even start cleaning it until later. I’ve also seen her flirt with the men going into their bathroom, but is always rude to the younger girls. I believe I heard her name is Iris since she’s always having these personal talks with the ladies her age in the locker room. She also touches peoples stuff to move them since she needs to hurry up & finish cleaning after she’s done yapping away, she should really be trained at least not to do that.

Big, free parking lot. Well lit. Good turf training area. Lots of people during rush hour but that's most city gyms. Cleanliness and upkeep levels are that of a mid-price tier city gym.

Been going to LA for 8+ years and this is one of my favorite locations in the city. Also, the Lawrence location up north. If you can help it, don't come during rush hour.

The gym is always packed, impossible to have a full workout without waiting 15 minutes for weights or a machine. One of the new gym trainers gave us an attitude when we asked if we could use the weights on the floor (since everything was taken), making sure if they were using it since it was far from them, could have just have said yes or no.

I'm extremely disappointed with the experience I had at the Brighton Park location of Fitness. As a former manager at one of their locations, I was excited to try out the gym, but the staff's inflexibility and lack of hospitality was a major turnoff.

I simply wanted to try out the gym for a couple of days before committing to a membership, but the staff member I spoke with made it clear that wasn't an option. He told me I needed to schedule an appointment and come back later, which seemed like an unnecessary hurdle.

The staff member's demeanor changed dramatically when he realized I wasn't going to sign up on the spot, which was unprofessional and unwelcoming. As someone who's familiar with the fitness industry, I expect more from a gym, especially one that I used to work for.

Needless to say, I took my business (and my membership) elsewhere. If you're looking for a gym that actually wants your business, I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

This facility is owned and operated by LA Fitness, a national company.

They just entered the chicagoland market and have taken over the XSPORT Fitness locations.

I happen to have a discussios with 2 .Membership and since LA fitness has taken over all of the gyms in the city, I find that their sanitation standards are not up to par and customs service needs review.

Many times, members are required to go to the front desk staff to inform them that the sanitizing wipes are in need of refresh.

This situation occurs at multiple sites around the Chicagoland area, especially since LA Fitness has taken over.

In addition to this, the top tier membership fee has gone up dramatically, compared to X SPORT FITNESS.

Speaking of which, membership is up in February 2025. Due to the issues above, I will not be renewing the 2-year membership.

HEADED TO CHICAGO PARK DISTRICTS, top tier membership, and access to over 40 +++++ Fitness Centers around the Chicagoland area. When out of the Chicagoland area, will utlize hotel gym or obtain daily pass at local gym.

Turns into a nightclub for teenagers in the evening. Good luck getting a decent workout in when you have 5 kids holding up a single machine while they’re just fooling around and talking. And if you plan on using the locker rooms, good luck. The creepy old men treat the place like their personal spa and bring big Bluetooth speakers and blast their music so loud you can hear it even with your headphones on….this place is a joke

The pool is disgusting ! I finally decided to get my membership since I moved back ok the area ! The day I was getting my membership a lady came up to one of the managers with the pool concern ! I hope the pool would look better but it’s been Three weeks since I got my membership and I still won’t go in the pool it’s color it’s not blue and clear as it should be . I also complained to one of the ladies at the desk and she said it was a third party and the pool was not dirty !
I feel that just cause it’s a Latino community based gym they are not putting the effort to making sure that gym looks nice .
I will not be going in the pool and I will not be renewing next month .

This gym is one of the worst gyms I've ever stepped in to. It's dirty, there are no free weights (what happened to them?), and there is a wait to use any equipment because people are too busy socializing. Don't bother getting a membership here.

This is a very bad experience. My friend and I went there for the first time at 8:30. The person in charge kept helping me get a so-called guess pass. We kept trying until almost 10 o'clock and kept asking me nonsense questions. It was a waste of my time. I kept saying that I just wanted to experience it today and didn't want to apply for a membership card. I would consider it. He kept saying that it would be ready soon, but he was still asking questions for almost an hour. This place is terrible. I don't want to go there again.

I’ve been waiting a couple of months to give this review in order to give this location a fair shake.

The place is hot garbage. A lot of the staff are inattentive with an unfriendly demeanor, excluding a couple of exceptions. Not a single person puts their weights back on the rack, and if they do, it’s in the completely wrong spot and they hold nobody accountable for this. Their equipment breaks down, and they patch it up in a way that makes it difficult to use, sometimes leading to injury which I’ve experienced myself. Also you have to go to the front desk to get any cable attachments, which might be nitpicky, but is definitely inconvenient.

The LA fitness locations I go to are usually very nice, but Esportas are often miserable and this one takes the cake. I find it absurd the amount of money they charge for this quality of a gym and would love a refund for the past couple months

Came a couple min as a guest but lady won't let me in because we all have to come in at the same time. The day before we literally took photos on the guest pass so I don't see the issue of my arriving a bit later than my friends.

Other than these two issues, gym is decent at best. Extremely crowded during 5pm-8pm but that is most gyms in the city. Some machines are probably passed down from LA fitness locations. Broken, rusty, and old.

Old treadmills that don't have anymore grip I try to run on them but I always slip. The weight machines and free weights are ok but if your going to keep the basketball closed atleast make the empty court into more free weights or more cardio machines

4/20/24. Shout out to the girl who was checking people in! I came in to cancel my membership and got sent to a manager on duty. Man was trying to make me come back another day because “only the operations manager could cancel it”. Kept pushing to cancel, he asked an associate who checks people in, and tell me why this girl knew how to online but not a MANAGER. Get retrained or find another job because you’re not an asset to the company bro. You weren’t even there to learn how to do it. You dumped the work on a subordinate.

When the gym was an LA Fitness it was a great gym. Since becoming Esporta it has slowly declined and then rapidly declined in quality since the start of 2024. The basketball court has been closed since COVID and no plans of opening. The biggest issue is that there is no quality control here. The same machines continue to break and then will be unusable for a couple of weeks at a time. You will see people come here to socialize and watch soap operas on the machines instead of actually working out. I was waiting for the leg press machine and completed four other machines before one person got off the leg press machine since they were on their phone the whole time. The sauna is continuously shut down because despite signs that say not to put oils and water on the heat source, members continue to do it. Now there is not even standing room to use the sauna. The front staff don’t seem to care what is going on in the gym and are typically sitting in the front on their phones. Overall, not a gym I would recommend for anyone and why I have switched to Xsport and it is a world of difference.

Insanely crowded. Expect to wait at least 30 minutes per machine. Broken machines never get fixed. If you go there in the morning, you will see employees mopping right next to you which can cause potential accidents. They don't care if the floor is slippery. If you want to win a lawsuit, this is the place that offers you many opportunities. Their pool, spa, and sauna are often closed for services due to many issues with it. They are just trying to sign up as many new members as possible so be aware of going here

Terrible servico, el manager de los entrenadores nunca está al pendiente de si faltan o no. Te ofrecen clases de entrenamiento diario, lo que no te dicen es que no hay quien de las clases si falta un entrenador, el disque manager solo dice que van a ver quién las de y en si nunca lo resolvió, el entrenador Evaristo es de los más impuntuales que puedes existir, siempre cancelaba clases mínimo una a la semana y si se podía hasta 3 días siempre había excusas para faltar. Te hacen perder el tiempo esperando por alguien que nunca llega y esa clase tiene un costo de 49 dólares aparte de tu membresía y si quieres cancelar por falta de personal no te dejan te obligan a pagar los meses que supuestamente faltan y nunca te dicen que es un contrato pero no puedes cancelar solo que pagues lo de 6 o 12 meses.luis el manager de los entrenadores solo esta de adorno. Y la manager del gym es otra que no te soluciona nada con lo sucio de los baños las máquinas descompuestas muchísima gente un tiradero de discos y de todo ves tirado la gente también es muy sucia. Así que si buscas un buen gym este no es el ideal. Mucha falta de respeto que tiene el personal hacia los clientes.

Staff is not trained to provide thorough knowledge of the gym to provide a decent level of customer service. (e.g. giving poor directions vs. walking with visitors to give directions).

Trainers for classes are consistently late and staff doesn’t check in with the trainers for the sake of customers’ positive experience.

The visitors are mostly south side residents and there is a sense of community with frequent visitors; but a strong amount of people are here to hookup, so there is a bar/club culture to it.

More Updates:

The place is a lot cleaner and major compliments to the cleaners who work so hard to clean at the bathroom and in the gym. HOWEVER, the people at the from desk is a joke. The generation doesn’t care about their job. The younger guy who sit at the front is on his phone at ALL time, even when he’s greeting the people walking in the gym, he doesn’t take his eyes off his phone.

Absolutely disgusted with this place. They have bedbugs or some kind of bugs. Every time I leave the gym I’m left with new bites. This morning I left the gym with my girlfriend and we both got new bites on our forearm.

I’ve been going here regularly for past 4 years at different hours and loved the gym for its capacity and how fully equipped the place is. However, gym quality has gone downhill since esporta took over and introduced $9.99 deal. Since then, the gym has been over crowded with groups of people who hoard weights and machines. Free weights are all over the place and it’d take me more than 5 mins to circle the gym to find what I need. Some staff play favoritism towards their own race and allow certain individuals to bring a speaker and blast their music when telling others to lower their music down that’s being played on a cell phone. Some of the staff aren’t friendly.

Apparently they have a problem bringing in guests even though you pay for guest privileges. Already contacted corporate, due to the fact that there are no managers on duty over the weekends.

Also, was turned away when I tried to update my card payment and was told to just do it online. Once I did it online I was charged a late fee. Sneaky tactic to squeeze extra money out. Manager on duty said she couldn't do anything about it.

I have a complaint about the paper, your towel is now what I have removed and there is no way to wipe the sweat, the sweat falls into my eyes and it is also uncomfortable not being able to wipe the sweat.
