Do not go here as a new guest to try out the gym unless you want to be unfairly charged! By far this is the worst place. I am a member of LA fitness and brought my daughter (who has never been to LA fitness) to try out the gym for free as advertised everywhere online and in emails and calls by LA fitness. The front desk people Vinnie and Hector were extremely rude and uncaring. Mateo, the general manager also refused to accommodate a free guest pass for my daughter. They are just out to charge people, scam you of money, and not honor their offers. We were charged even though she had a 3 day free guest pass. It was her first time there and she was there to give it a try to possibly join. I have been a member at so many gyms and never was I ever treated so poorly as a member. Extremely disappointed. Do better Hanover Park LA Fitness!! I expect an explanation from this gym and from LA fitness Corporate!

This gym use to be good but it's gone down hill for years. The staff is great but machines are ALWAYS broken, no one puts weights back, it's hard to find cleaning wipes or paper towels, sitting bikes have broken foot puddles. This place is just a mess. I'm going back to driving 40 mins to another LA Fitness because this one has become a dump. It takes a whole lot for me to give a bad review but this gym needs a wake up call.

It is pretty much what you would expect from an LA fitness.

Equipment variety is okay but not impressive. Could be better cleaned and equipment could be better maintained.

Biggest issue is that during peak times it's crazy busy and there's not enough equipment.

End up spending an extra 10-15 minutes working out because I'm waiting for equipment to be available.

I came here to be added to my spouses membership as he was a member for years and loved this place. We were told by a gentleman part of membership staff (name edited out) that for the BOTH of us it would be $39.99. I thought that it was pretty low for 2 people, so we asked a few more times for clarification. He confirmed 3 times that FOR THE BOTH OF US, it would be $39.99. I even made sure to ask specifically that it wouldn’t be my spouses $29.99 in addition to $39.99 for me, and he said NO. So I was added.

A month later, dues were taken out in the amount of $29.99 with another scheduled billing date for $39.99!!!! We went in to tell them the situation, and now we are out $160 dollars because THEY gave us the wrong information. Honestly, be ware of this at any gym, but specifically here as apparently the workers don’t know anything regarding how their memberships work.

EDIIIIIT!! I want to mention that the MANAGER, yes, the manager was standing next to the person helping us, listening and didn’t say a word. The same manager that was helping assist the other staff who scammed us and didn’t correct him that day either! Scammed us so bad.

Terrible experience. I called ahead to upgrade my membership and was told everything was set—I just needed to come to the location to sign paperwork. When I arrived, they told me only the specific manager I spoke with on the phone could handle the upgrade, and no one else could help. They even warned me I might get double-charged if someone else tried to process it.

This was a huge waste of time. The lack of communication and poor customer service was extremely frustrating. I expected better from a professional business. Very disappointing.

I had a fantastic experience thanks to Hector at LA Fitness. From the moment I walked in, he was extremely helpful, professional, and patient. I switched from crunch to X sport last year and got a 2 year subscription a little before LA fitness bought X sport. The gym is very solid and I am able to get good lifts at a high quality facility at a great price. When I first started going here I got a free session from Max. He is a great trainer and you can feel the passion all the personal trainers here have. Another trainer who has helped me improve is Dalton. These two have helped me tremendously with my fitness goals and my progress. Bathrooms are pretty gross tho ngl. Overall staff here is phenomenal and I am getting my money worth!!

When you sign in, they take your credit card number, and you are in their hands. If you want to cancel your membership, they make you go back to their gym, they make you wait for their manager, they give you a blank piece of paper and then they make you write down why you want to cancel your membership, then they say that is all they need, and you walk away. However, that is not true; they keep charging you until you notice it in your statement months later, then you must call their California headquarters because nobody will do it for you at this location. Once you contact their HQ, they ask if you went to the Gym to cancel your membership (the waiting, blank sheet, etc.), and then they will cancel it. Forget to get your money back.

Too many members for the square footage they have.

The parking lot looks like there is a concert nearby, I literally have to park in next lot and walk in the snow to enter this stupid place. After LA bought Xsport everyone from that place came here, LA has done nothing to expand and make room for the extra members.

At anytime this place is insanely crowded, not just during rush hour, you have to wait in long lines to do some cable flys, completely defeats the purpose of working out and ruins the whole experience.

Seeing how much fitness has gained popularity post covid, these mega corps should be adding new locations to accommodate the new members, instead they are buying other gyms nearby to steal their customers and promptly shutting them down, taking a place to workout away from the community. Very soon this place is going to become completely unusable, so many ppl its impossible to get a workout in.

It might be time for the sauna to be replaced since its been out of service over 4 times this year already. Not only that, last year the sauna was able to reach 160 degrees in temperature. Now it doesn’t go over 140 degrees. Some gym equipment needs to be replaced since they have broken/missing pieces. Overall, its a good gym.

To whom it may concern,

On February 2, 2025, I visited your facilities located on Barrington Rd in Streamwood, accompanied by my daughter. Upon entering, the receptionist informed me that she could not enter due to the restrictions of my membership. When I asked for more details, I was told to speak with the supervisor in charge, who identified himself as Mateo.

Unfortunately, his attitude was unprofessional and rude. Instead of offering me a proper solution or a courteous explanation, he merely told me, in an unfriendly manner, that I could either change my membership or pay for a guest pass. I believe that supervisors should be properly trained in customer service, as a simple act of kindness can make all the difference.

Due to this unpleasant experience, I request the immediate cancellation of my membership. However, Mateo informed me that, despite being a supervisor, he could only modify my membership but not cancel it.

I kindly ask for my cancellation request to be processed as soon as possible. Please confirm once it has been completed.

My daughter is only 13 years old and she was only going to accompany me.

The success of any company is the quality of service and customer service, which the staff at this center lacks.

I like this gym overall but the men’s lockeroom and bathroom always smells like piss and it makes this gym feel dirty. It’s clear the bathrooms aren’t mopped nor cleaned daily. Management should hire an overnight crew that takes care of this so the gym can have a cleaner environment. I’m a newer member. this gym sucks. the men’s locker room has 4 paper towel dispensers. 4! Including the area by the urinals. At least 1 of the 4 are empty at times. The urinal area smells like chlorine overdose. it’s like your eyes burn and your inhaling chlorine. I try to avoid the bathroom area. the gym equipment is rusty and feels overused. The cable shoulder press is barely surviving the cable lines feel so rugged and overused doesn’t feel smooth when working out at all. There is 1 random 40 lbs straight bar for curling…no other straight bars, 1 random 40 lbs bar. Where are the rest? The music feels like you’re in a mall at times, no real gym pump. I thought LA was supposed to be a better tier than xsport even before they bought the company. Honestly this gym feels like it’s worst than an xsport or almost the same. Waiting for another decent gym to open in the area so I can consider switching…gym gets super crowded at times…considering you’re signing up so many people and expansion is long overdue. This gym needs a revamp big time.

The equipment is decent, but the management is very dismissive and rude. I’ve been a member for over four years, and recently started going to Hanover Park from Highland Park Illinois. Mateo, The manager was so rude and dismissive that my friend That had met me there to join the gym, said she had changed her mind because he was so rude to her, and he didn’t even bat and I. The staff is extremely rude. They offer a three day pass and then try not to honor it. The purpose of a pass is to explore the gym to see if you're interested in joining. The staff at this location tried to push the membership upon entry and when told you want to workout first, said the pass is not being accepted. Would never join. If you're looking for a new gym, I strongly do not recommend this one. For the second time, someone opened my locker, and once again, I have to replace my lock at my own expense. The gym takes no responsibility for anything and clearly doesn't care about its customers. As others have mentioned, it's dirty, the equipment is falling apart, and almost none of the treadmills are suitable for running. I was just looking in that fitness club for opportunity to take a rest after stressful working days and to move little bit. And I did find much more that I expected.I am taking 3 classes in the week.Tuesday,Thursday (Zumba) and Saturday (aqua) and I am absolutely happy. Mariangela,Hector and Marsha are my favorite trainers.They work each second of scheduled time.I am coming tired after work and leaving fitness laughing and full of energy. Lost weight also(that wasn’t target).Please accept my appreciation and my best wishes for happy new year (If management has bonuses for holiday that 3 teachers definitely deserve that). Also it’s hard to find later scheduled activities for people who works,but that location has a great schedule. Definitely recommending.

My recommendation is to NEVER sign up for a membership here. Like, don’t even consider it. I had a SCHEDULED tour with them tonight, but when I got there promptly, I was told the ONLY person who could offer tours (???) was busy and couldn’t show me around the extremely busy gym. I asked to be shown by another staff member but apparently the only guy who could give me a tour was busy with a potential new client. I get it. Stuff pops up, things happen. I would have been fine if I was alerted to this and they needed to reschedule. No problem at all. But they didn’t let me know before I got to the gym. Pretty crappy. The second reason this is really terrible is that they only had ONE person who offer a tour?! I’ve never been to a gym who didn’t have at least two people to show me around. I’ve never had this happen before. And I’ve had contracts with a ton of gyms over the past 22 years. Never had an issue until tonight. To a lesser extent, I could have walked around myself for about 5 minutes. I’m not a newbie. I wouldn’t have injured myself, and even if I did, I would never think of suing because it would probably would have caused it. Very poor customer service. Just awful. Go to Planet Fitness in Schaumburg instead. Wonderful, friendly staff that is always welcoming and there’s always at least two employees that can show people around. Go to any other gym. Anything but this lousy place. You’ll be glad you did. I know I’m never signing up for any LA Fitness gym ever again. The customer service is horid.

This gym is gross! Everything is old and dirty! You never see a worker cleaning (I’ve been to other LAs and they’re constantly vacuuming, wiping etc) and to make it worse it feels like a PLANET FITNESS but with a LA logo if you know what I mean. People are disrespectful and never put their weight back, and feels like the workers don’t care either. The gym has poor vent circulation, so it’s always humid and impossible to finish a decent workout in there!!!!

I've been going to LA Fitness since 2009. For all the people that say the gym is dirty, mold etc., get over it! It's a gym, you go get your workout and leave. Gym is a mess. Gym opens at 5 and we usually get there around 530ish. Dumbells and plates are never put back where they're supposed to be. Half the dumbells seem to be missing or in just some random place somewhere else in the Gym. Multiple treadmills have issues. I had one just abrubtly turn off and stop on me two weeks ago while running at 8mph. Men's locker room sinks are usually out of soap for the first couple sinks. I get these could be some issues at the end of the day, but how is it so. messed up at the beginning. I have gone in the afternoon and it only gets worse.

As she made a point of telling me, MALARY (or something similar to that) almost called the police to take me out of her office because of a membership I wanted to pay for and as I asked questions as if I didn't agree with what she was saying, She told me to leave her room or she would call “somebody to take me out” and I asked her if she would call the police to me because I was making question and disagree with the way she was doing things with me. So, the fact you make questions or do not agree without scream or say ANY badly word for this “lady” was enough for her do not do her job that was be patient and explain me how many times I need once I am the CLIENT. I usually use the gymnastics room and use the equipment but this morning the weight rack have a lock and I can’t use them I asked the lady in front desk but she said that they did that because is only for classes in the room and a lot of people take the weights out the room and that is not allowed. Wow. Talk about a transformation. I used to come here back in the day. Moved up north so didn't come by too often. Came back to a brand new place! El lugar es grande, tiene la sección exclusiva para mujeres, hay piscina, etc. En general el gym es bonito, pero pareciera que el presupuesto no alcanza para cubrir los desperfectos, pague una anualidad con la intención de aprovecharlo un año y el siguiente aprovechar la promoción que ofrecen... pagas 300 el primer año y el segundo año solo pagas 100 y te la venden diciendo que tienes acceso a todo y a todas las locaciones. La cuestión es que si compraste a Esporta FITNESS. Esto no es lo mismo que LA FITNESS... quise ir a uno más cerca que era de la FITNESS y dijeron que si podía entrar pero tenia que pagar la visita(se suponia que podia ir a cualquier sucursal, resulto que no!), dije bueno que más ya estoy aquí, pero la razón por la que estaba ahí era por que buscaba un gym donde el jacuzzi funcionará, pregunte y paso que el jacuzzi tambien estaba fuera de servicio lo que fue realmente decepcionante porque donde yo usualmente iba, llevaba meses sin operar el bendito jacuzzi. En fin, tienen cosas por mejorar.

Signed up for a 3 day free trial. I got to the gym and the girl said i can workout but i have to pay $20 whether or not i join the gym but i can have the 3 days to work out. I went up to the desk and the guy there said i only get 24 hours. i also signed up for a tour and they didn’t give me one. both members were rude. i asked if i could use the BMI machine and they said no it’s only for members even thought for the guest pass you are able to use everything else. I even told them i would pay extra to use it and the girl told me to just go on google and do it.

I'm looking forward to trying the group fitness. I'll update once I try a few classes.

During my few visits, equipment on the turf was scattered. I weight train on the large turf area. The few selection of free weights are random, so I make use with what I see.

One out of four days, a front desk staff straightened up the area. I'm not paying attention to others, but I don't see staff nor people regularly wiping equipment. I could be wrong...maybe I'm missing it. 😕

Sadly the gym doesn't offer kettlebells for member use! Five or six are chained to a stand on the turf which are available to trainers. Annoying since I love incorporating kettlebells into my workout.

According to the front desk staff, the gym doesn't have a trapbar.

There are a ton of cardio machines.
I joined to use the pool, but it's closed until further notice. LA is larger than my current gym, unfortunately larger doesn't equate better.

REALLY wanted to love this gym since they have all the amenities I was looking for (Pool, Sauna, and an added plus is the women's only strength training area!) I stuck it out for a few months and finally cancelled, deciding I wasn't going to waste my money here anymore. SO dirty. In the women's only room, there are literal clumps of hair sitting in the corners and basically anywhere you look on the floor. I only used this pool once and was absolutely disgusted by the amount of filth I could see floating in it. Started going to the Elmhurst location to use their pool because it was noticeably cleaner, but the downside is they don't have a sauna at that location and obviously it's not very close to home. People also do not wipe down their machines after using the cardio equipment either which is absolutely disgusting...but whenever you walk to one of the sanitizing stations, they are either out of disinfectant or out of paper towels, so I see why people gave up trying to wipe down their machines. The locker rooms also leave much to be desired. It blows my mind that when I cancelled my membership, they did not ask me for any feedback or want to know why I was cancelling. For what I was paying monthly for this membership, it was absolutely not worth it (at least at this location specifically). Seeing that others have commented on the cleanliness of this gym, and they have still not done anything about it...do yourself a favor and do not waste your money here.

Can you find any of it? NOPE.
This is the messiest gym I've ever seen. Dumbbells are missing or scattered all over the gym. The overall gym etiquette is absent with so many members just leaving the weights and not re-racking. If you have a choice, pick a different location to avoid frustration.

Pretty big place. They have a nice amount of strength machines for upper and lower body, plenty of cardio equipment, decent free weight area. My only gripe is the elliptical machines seem like they’re 20 years old, rusty and gross. I get that new ones are expensive but would be nice to see one day. I ended up cancelling and won’t be back until I hear they upgrade equipment.

Went from 5 stars at the time of reopening, to 2 because of an unacceptable significant lack of cleanliness. I genuinely believe that someone taking a shower will finish dirtier than when they got in. Most of the shower curtains have some combination of mold, boogers, hair, and or blood on them. Garbage has been piling up on the locker room floors for the last several months, and so it is typical to find amongst other things paper towels thrown on the floors of the showers that aren't picked up. Lockers never seem to be vacuumed or taken care of in any fashion, so almost all of them are full of hair.

Newly remodeled to match other area LA Fitness clubs, and looking good! A full indoor training area was added, the nasty carpet was removed, and the pool was drained and scrubbed

Tried the 7 day free trial. Called on 7th day if I can still come in. The answer was yes. Then as I scan in they try to sell me the membership. I said no I’m not ready right now. They refused to let me in the facility. Talk about a poor experience. Extremely unprofessional. Never going near an Esporta again. Maybe even LA Fitness (Esporta is a subsidiary of LA).

The place is ok if you just want to use the weights/workout equipment. However it's busy and packed. I was more interested in the pool and heavy bags for boxing. The bags are nice but are in the yoga class area so you have to take their schedule into consideration. Here is why I wanted to quit after only a couple of months;
The male locker room and showers are absolutly disgusting. Nobody cleans anything. There is mold on all the tile and grout, the curtains are moldy and dirty as well. Now for the really nasty stuff that drove me to quit; the one stall I used had boogers and blood on the curtain for 2 weeks(probably still does), plenty of times I found used diaposable razors laying on the shower floor along with finger nail clippings. You can imagine what else or what other bodily fluids you might possibly encounter. I'm not a germphobe and don't care at all about the rona but I have never seen any of the equipment be wiped down. When I told the employees I want to quit nobody even questioned why or if there was anything they can do to make me stay. If I was a creep I could have probably just used the female locker room, hopefully that is cleaner. Which would have been 100% OK to do as a man according to their policy. I signed up to my local park district and for about the same cost have a great, clean, and pleasant experience every time. Everything is spotless and I see the employees constantly cleaning and wiping stuff down.

This place is bad. Yes it's cheap, so it's so crowded that you have to always wait for equipment. It's dirty, especially during weekends, I guess the cleaning ppl are off, this place is like a ghetto. I really wish they open to homeless people. They deserve this place.

They also make no effort to fix anything. The sauna broke down, they said it'll be fixed in a couple days. After a couple weeks, it's still not fixed. Hot tub 'broke down', they said 'waiting for parts, should be done in a couple months'. After 6 months, still no sign of being fixed. I suspect they just turned them off to save money. BTW, they also turned down the swimming pool temperature to let you feel the winter outdoor swimming. It's a shame for this gym.
