This gym is a complete disappointment. It’s always way too crowded, no matter what time you go. Good luck trying to hit chest day—there’s barely any equipment, and whatever is available is constantly taken. Half the dumbbells are missing because nobody ever puts them back, and the staff doesn’t seem to enforce anything. On top of that, no one wipes down the equipment, so everything feels sweaty and dirty. For the price they charge, this place should be run way better. Definitely not worth it.

I got a bad vibe as soon as I checked into the gym. I had never been to this location, so I wasn’t familiar with where the locker rooms were. I scanned in and was not greeted by the woman or man behind the counter. Since no one was gonna say anything, I asked where the locker room was, and he laughed and sarcastically gave me directions as if I wouldn’t understand. They have vendors selling pickles and whatever else in aisles of the equipment, and they’re bothersome, so that was annoying. I don’t want to be bothered in the gym. I make it to the locker room and head to the bathroom stall. There is blood smeared on the side of the trash bin, gross. I did my circuit as fast as I could and got out of there. I will not be back!

I recently joined this LA Fitness location and had an unprofessional experience with coach Theodore (Theo) Hughes. He insisted on scheduling a session even after I said I wasn’t interested, and when I arrived, I was given different explanations about why he wasn’t available. I left without completing the session.

I also received emails afterward to confirm another session with him, adding to the confusion. This came after a previous situation where I was told I had missed a session that the gym later said was never scheduled.

The inconsistent communication and lack of professionalism were very disappointing. I hope management addresses these issues for future members.

I have received three calls from them very early in the morning asking if I am “john” or “michelle” and I told the lady the second time that they have the wrong number. they called AGAIN a third time and this other lady has the audacity to yell and argue with me?? I have never been to this gym. I am in TEXAS. Please stop harassing me because you can’t keep up with your own customers.

Just recently signed up for this gym when I moved back to Chicago. On the day I signed up I never received a tour of the gym. But they did ask me if I want personal training from the most scrawny looking trainers I’ve ever seen. Oh and on any given day there are roughly 100 people in this building but the bathrooms are closed on weekends because “they want to keep cleaning to a minimum on the weekends”. What a joke. So in summary the gym is packed , the bathroom isn’t open every day, some members get preferential treatment (you can guess which ones), and most of the trainers look like middle school gym teachers. The moment I find a cheaper gym with free weight bench and squat I’m gone.

Im giving this place only 1 star because I couldn’t give it absolutely no stars whatsoever.

The staff here that call themselves trainers are very UNPROFESSIONAL. One particular that is very unprofessional is Trinia or however you spell their name.

There is only a select few who work there, who are actual trainers and know what professionalism looks like.

The environment could also be cleaner

It’s clean, however these cardio machines suck. Especially the elliptical machines, they need to go back to previous brands. No sauna. This LA Fitness looks more appealing on the outside than inside. Pass, when I get back home I’m canceling my membership

Theres alot of bad reviews but i think this is a really solid gym, new smooth machines that feel great, good dumbbell selection and well organized, bathrooms are quite clean. But it is a huge bummer theres no sauna:/ and i would love to see one in the future aswell as pretty much everyone who goes there.

UPDATE.
This gym has taken a significant turn for the worse and is a shadow of what LA Fitness used to be. It’s extremely disorganized, with terrible hours and staff. The cleanliness has also declined, and there have been no improvements to the machinery or equipment. It feels like a sardine can, making it difficult to get a solid workout. It’s unfortunate, and I often find myself reminiscing about the old Oak Lawn location. RIP LA Fitness.

Have to write this review for this gym. My teenage son’s favorite gym to go to for over a year and half . Until a new employee he has never seen screams in his face to leave the gym as he is in the middle of the set. It is 2 minutes after closing time. My son says what is your name I’m going to report you she says she can do whatever she wants and threatens to call the police on my son. He walks out, she calls the cops and they approach my son in front of the gym as he waits for me to pick him up since he is not old enough yet to drive. Police recommend I call corporate and ask if he wants to make a report against the employee. I reach out to corporate, send an email and file a complaint on the phone. It has been three weeks and three follow up calls in which customer service says the “ manager at they location has attempted to email
Me “ but I have no emails. I think this is very unprofessional to leave something like this unresolved.

Between the patrons using 4 machines at a time like it’s their personal studio, and the selfie stands everywhere, it might be time to look elsewhere.

UPDATE.

Clearly this post wasn’t read by anyone that matters at LA fitness. This might be the worst gym I’ve ever been to. Equipment sprawled out everywhere. People using the place for everything but working out. Maybe management should quit trying to hustle memberships and keep this place in order.

Never in my wildest dreams would I say planet fitness is better than this place. But here we are.

UPDATE 2.0 IS ANYONE READING THESE!?!?

The staff at the Oak Lawn location is absolutely horrible to the people who call. I have been harassed by them for over a year about an account that isn’t mine I repeatedly told them to take my name off. So when telling them to take my number off the account again one of the many managers told me to go have another DRINK whithout knowing a person that is not something you say to a person..(at least he said he was a manager but all refused to give names so the whole staff can be responsible for this) So for a gym that is supposed to pride themselves on no judgement that sure isn’t what you’d get at this gym the whole staff from July 8th at 5pm needs to be fired. Thinking they are funny but just the opposite. I’d love to hear from corporate about the employees you hire. Please do call me about this incident.

Signed up by the big guy in glasses. Harry I believe. The guy that tried pushing a bunch of extra stuff onto me and then criticizing me if I knew what I was doing just because I gained weight recently. Then tells me 30/mo with a guest pass and this and that and then signed me up with a 40/mo membership without being able to bring a guest pass. Didn't even tell me strait forward about the annual fee I had to ask him several times just to confirm what everything would be and then he just agrees with me because I specifically said so 30 this month 30 for last month and a 45$ initial fee and he said right yes YES he said. Then I wanted to bring my mother for some water activity at countryside since she's disabled some water yoga and hottub would help her loosen up while I work out. I go and ask the front desk politely to get a waiver for my mother as my guest and they tell me view my app to have her as my guest and after viewing my profile they tell me that my contract doesn't include a guest pass. We'll I guess that's messed up. Then they say we can cancel your membership yet you'll still be charged an annual fee and still have a month and a half left to use since it would been my 2nd week going and I paid first and last months bill. So I'd of had paid 165$ for two months at a gym if I wait two months to resub which then would be a whole other initial fee and different monthly fee. Like why couldn't he of been upfront in the first place. I worked out on a 3day guest pass and waited 35 minutes to speak with the guy to sign up and got lied to and spoke down upon for a half an hour signing and putting my initials on forms he was hurrying me up to sign "you'll get copies sent to your email don't worry" yeah bs... then I asked for a physical card and not an app scanner. I asked the front desk to help and they said go on the app hit the buttons fill out your info and you'll get one I ask her to since I couldn't find it then after like 3 minutes she scans my phone I'm like I thought you were doing this to get me a physical card. She said no that would've costed 10 bucks. Like I cared about ten bucks after I just spend over a hundred on the subscription to the gym that I got screwed on either way..... I try calling and can't get ahold of Mr Harry or anyone at the gym. And it's 30 minutes away. As I was visiting each gym to find my preferred spot to get my pass. Also NONE of the locations I've went to so far have either towels or a suit dryer. Nothing can be perfect thus I strive for perfection everyday but never expect it but I do expect the honest truth. That's my rant. Hope this helps people not experience what i have recently.

The gym was fairly nice, clean, nicely paced until the past few months. Especially recently it has significantly gotten worse.

First, their pool was great for the past year and a half until they decided to give up TWO out of the THREE lanes for 4 hours a day! This legitimately has ruined the pool. The pool was always accessible and many people loved it. Now its taken up 4 hours out of the day at the WORST times possible...when people get out of work and the weekends in the morning. They never even listed the times on their website, you had to just find out one day by walking in and then asking the workers. Even the workers barely knew. Now there is some signage by the pool door. Insanely poor execution from this LA Fitness that has ruined time slots for their elders, swimmers and consumers. I have seen so many people walk in to swim and then b-line it right out because there is one lane already taken up and then the two lanes overcrowded by the company that uses the two lanes.

Secondly, the weights are never racked. They are all over the place or missing. If you go to look for a weight, expect for it to not even be on the rack. Very rarely have I seen a worker actually walking around to rack the weights properly.

Lastly, this more than likely has nothing to do with LA but the gym has been significantly crowded in the past few months. Say good bye to your work out if you go around 5pm-8pm.

DONT DO TRAINING HERE, I signed up for training and no text or call backs from Juliana, because of family issues, okay I get that but If she hasn’t texted or called me, why has the company taken $65 out THREE times of my account equaling to $195 taken out my account. I honestly don’t care about the service or looking bad atp or sound like a an ass, I get that I’m young and gullible but I’m not taking this from anyone. AND my membership says cancelled so why is it still taking money out. I see how you and the company cares about your members at the gym. If this isn’t handled IMMEDIATELY, i’ll handle it myself. I don’t want any contact with this company, so don’t ask me to contact you cause I tried, all i want is my money that was taken unfairly in my bank.

The gym is usually pretty clean. However, it’s hard to get a good workout in. No matter what time of day you go, weights tend to be strewn about the gym. Free weights are almost never available. The trainers tend to take many sets of weights at a time and hoard them in the closed off training area. Then when they are done training their clients, they just leave the weights in that area instead of putting them back. If the trainers are going to take half the free weights, maybe they should have their own set of weights so that the rest of us aren’t constantly looking around for them. Overall, pretty disappointing that it’s so hard to work out there (even at “slow” times like 10 am or so, the weight rack is half empty). At least the place is cleanish as you’re hunting for weights or open machines.

Looking to switch from my current gym and wanted to take advantage of their free day pass so I could test the equipment and gym before signing up. The website was not allowing me to fill out for a pass so I called and they told me to just come in and they’ll be able to take care of me.

As I get there I am told to sit and wait for someone to help me. After 20 minutes, I had to go back to the desk and remind them I was waiting for someone to which I was directed to a big bearded dude with a bunch of tattoos who I’m guessing all of the other bad reviews are about. This guy couldn’t be LESS helpful. He instantly tried selling me a membership as I kept telling him I’m not looking to sign up that exact day and wanted to use the day pass to test the gym. He tells me that’s something you have to fill out in advance as I proceed to show him the website not allowing me to. I answered confused as I just called and they said they would be able to help me. He kept giving me the same response that “it’s just something that has to be done before”. There was no point in talking anymore as I could tell by his smug comments he wasn’t going to help me in any way so I walked out.

As soon as I told him I didn’t wanna sign up today, he could care less about helping me at all. I was actually an interested customer looking to sign up after trying the gym. Looks like he saved me from wasting my money at this poor managed place. This dude should not be working in customer service.

I see exactly why they are slowly going out of business! Horrible customer service from the "General Manager" which calls himself Harry Thanos. Walked in with my son, who is home from college to workout and bond. Told a young lady at the front desk that I needed a guest pass. She stated that a pass would need to be retrieved through the app. I had trouble signing up for the guest pass because my app was outdated. Was told that even if I signed my son up, that pass was not good the day of. After downloading the app, it says nothing about a 24-hour wait. So, I was intentionally lied to. After trying to speak to Harry Thanos about how it was wrong to lie to your customers... this guy just runs his mouth without listening. I told him thank you and canceled my membership, which I have had since 2013. No wonder all the locations are closing. This will be another big company name that we will mention as a memory. Start applying for another job (just over broke) Thanos!

Ridiculously limited amount of free weights and if there's more than 10 people working n free weights, not only will you not be able to do a few weight workout, but if you are lucky enough to get a piece of equipment, you'll feel like you're in a rave because you'll be surrounded by the other 9 people in the area. Thank you, Harry Thanos, and the entire team!

As a former GM at LA Fitness (2003-2009) and now a gym owner, I know what it takes to run a top-notch fitness facility—and this club exceeded my expectations. From the moment I walked in, the front desk staff was polite, professional, and informative. Their attentiveness immediately set the tone for a positive experience.

Despite it being primetime, the gym was clean, organized, and inviting. The space not only looked great but also smelled fresh—a detail that speaks volumes about the care and dedication of the staff. The sales team was all in uniform, diligently working on the phones, maintaining a professional and unified appearance.

A special shout-out to the GM, Harry Thanos, for being welcoming, attentive, and truly embodying exceptional leadership. I had the privilege of being mentored by one of the best, Mike U. (RIP), and even met the founder of LA Fitness, Mr. Welch a few times. They instilled in me the standards that have been instrumental in my success as a gym owner, and I can confidently say they would both be proud of how this club on 95th street is managed and how it reflects the values of the company.

I look forward to visiting this club every chance I get when I'm in Illinois to see family. Keep up the outstanding work!.

Gym and bathrooms are clean and weights are not usually just thrown around and left in a mess. I agree with other posts below ⬇️ we do not need a basketball court bc the last one with a court in Alsip there was shooting. Want to go play basketball go somewhere else….sorry 😢 A sauna would be a great addition but a steam room would be better.

This place deserves less than zero stars. Been going to LA’s since the merger from X-Sport. The place is dirty, missing equipment, overcrowded and member are rude and just don’t care. I’ve been coming to this gym for about 2 weeks. Extremely disappointed and would rather go to CFX in alsip and will be canceling membership and switching over.

Management is a joke. The GM here is a creep and full on liar. Read your contract carefully. The sales people openly and confidently lie. Once they have you locked in, it’s impossible to break without having to be charged more. Spoke with LAF corp, they said “misinformation to close a sale is unfortunately common”.

Confused to why LAF doesn’t care their management and staff are scammers? They’re lucky for the business because there’s literally nothing else close by. Hopefully another gym can come and take over because this one is disappointing. Not big enough, not enough equipment, and they keep trying to sign people up.

There’s hidden fees and no free freezes. Be careful because they don’t care about their members. Just your money.

Xsport treats people better. How crazy is that?

I don’t mind the staff, but I do absolutely hate how crowded it has gotten. It was so great when it first opened. Closing the other LA Fitnesses has made this place a zoo. It’s also very annoying when people are recording because then they take even longer on the equipment. It’s great that they’re tracking progress, but take that somewhere else.

This is the new location for the one that was in Alsip on 119 and Cicero. The new location: horrible. No daycare, no sauna, the pool is ALOT smaller, no protein shop, no basketball court, no hand/raquetball court, most of the popular machines/ equipment are gone. Basically, everything that made the old location popular and welcoming is gone. Most are only coming here until a new gym buys up/ leases the old location in Alsip. The layout here is as if someone with no gym experience decided to open a gym. As I said, if you have options, I'd suggest you go elsewhere. I for one know that as soon as a gym opens up at the old location, im leaving this one.

I didn't want to leave any stars but I had no choice. The gm at this place is very rude and doesn't know how to problem solve. I had the worst experience of my gym life here; the GM Harry Thanos is very unprofessional; what I experienced today was very discouraging and almost made me want to give up on even going to the gym; my neighborhood gym closed so we were forced to go here. And i hate that we were; but upon the closing of the gym they didn't care to mention we can only go to oaklawn if we started our membership on 119th. And that was poor communication to customers from LA fitness itself. Upon arriving April 6th; and let's not forget to mention, that I had been goin here all that week with no problem. I was up in a debate about paying my Esporta but since they closed the home gym I felt as though it will be best to just pay it because I will probably be moving around from gym to gym. So I paid the Esporta membership in order to be able to go to the LA on 95th that was what was told to us... it wasn't told that you have to had started your membership at 119 to go to 95th. But I get there and scan in; the gm (HARRY)flew from the back of the counter so fast I thought he was superman. But he flew to tell me I couldn't come in because my esporta wasn't from 119th at that point I'm completely lost; but was refused entry but offered a upgrade and I said why would upgrade anything and I just paid my gym bill to be able to come here with no problem; So my friend had sent me a free 7 day so I tried to use it. And they refused to let me use that but definitely made sure to offer an upgrade again; this is all literally in a 30 min span; but I was told I couldn't use the 7 day free guest pass cause I'm a esporta member; which I was confused again because if you're denying me entry because I'm an esporta member wouldn't that make me a guest to LA at that point; but no it didn't I was told that by me being a esporta member that didn't start it's membership on 119th that I can't use the 7-Day guess pass; and again I say I had been there all week. So I was extremely frustrated; I have a team that I meet at the gym cause I'm a powerlifter; it was very discouraging to see them and not be able to workout with them. But instead of this GM Harry finding a resolution he wanted me to upgrade and pay which I thought was insane if I already paid my bill why am I upgrading anything the reason why I paid my bill was to have access here. Without even knowing that I will have to be from 119th to come there that was NEVER told to me before the closing of 119th. Long story short I was not able to work out and that messed my whole day up and my weekend and weeks to come. Because now I have nowhere to work out that's near me or with my team. And that hurts my soul. I'm leaving this review because things could've been handled differently. But I had to call cooperate to get a refund for the membership I just paid because their are no Esporta's within a 25 mile radius of me. The home gym I came from I only came from that gym because I was working in the area at that time which was 2 years ago I didn't think it made a difference what home gym I came from as long as I had a esporta. But now Im back to square one; trying to find a home/gym. Cause now I don't even feel comfortable working out on 95th or being a member with LA fitness.

Complained about video chatting customers while I was undressing in locker room. Solution. Come out and point out who is doing it. Let me run out in my towel and get a worker vs posting a bigger sign regarding cell phone use in locker room. Anyone who takes selfies or video chats in protective area should have membership revoked immediately. Update just had the same experience again so I called the front desk like management told me to do and you know what they did. Absolutely nothing. I was looking into this gym for a while, but after the way they treated my friends/coworkers I would never sign up here. I hear the staff is great, but the district vice president Nicholas Jones treated them terribly. He not only only profiled them with much prejudice, but harassed them and caused a traumatic display in front of everyone by calling the authorities on them. He accused my coworker of personal training our other coworker/ friend, when both were just there to workout and help inspire each others personal goals. Clearly his customer service is poor at best, but he also had the audacity to follow them into the changing room to make sure they did not shower. He treated them like fugitives when they were only there to workout. He saw that they were completely opposite in profiles and couldn’t see beyond his own prejudice. They are both well known at this gym and have never had any issues until he arrived.

Pool is so small and too many clients wish to be in water aerobics for BOTH instructors. Gym stopped us from swimming before class and then be in class. We have to wait in lobby until 830 to sign in or leave pool and go to desk at 830 to sign in. Water all over gym and hall floors from our wet suits. Even though front desk says only 33 people signed in can attend ( capacity per code) to date they have not enforced the rule. This week they expected the instructor to stop people from entering pool, disrupting class many times. Yet front desk allows people pass the desk, some not even swiping in, who obviously are headed to the pool. Today I was the first one there, yet when paper was put out to sign there was already someone signed in??? Front desk would not comment to either person who asked how this could be. IRRITATING
GREAT INSTRUCTORS
Instructors are caught in the middle .

I don’t really understand why the facility is being mopped during business hours. All the floors are wet during the early morning crowd which is a hazard. This should be done after the gym closes. And then a lady that cleans here half cleans and is only on the phone in the locker room all day. there have been multiple events of puddles of water in the free weight area. No weights are re-racked and are just left lying on the floor i’ve almost tripped over quite a few times. Nothing is hardly where it’s supposed to be. The facility is nice primarily for training only, there’s no sauna.

Hours were originally M-Th 5-11p; F 5-10p; S-S 8-8p. This location cut an hour each day almost immediately after opening, which is the first problem as it was never posted during sign-up that this was going to be a permanent change (false advertisement from the start). Then, the Alsip location, a much more spacious location, closed and their patrons migrated to this one, resulting to extreme overcrowding. When asked if their hours would at least go back to the original advertised hours to accommodate for the influx of people, the associate snickered and said she doubts it. She said we should just "see if people will cancel their memberships or if the Alsip patrons will end up going elsewhere." That was her advice.

This is a poorly managed facility owned by greed. They prefer to reduce operational costs and squeeze everyone in like a can of tuna. They do not care about their paying customers once you sign that contract, pay that exorbitant amount of upfront costs, AND an unexpected "annual fee" only 2 weeks into your membership.

My husband and I canceled our memberships, as it was a gross waste of money. But even that process was a tactic to milk every dollar out of people. There's no option to cancel online or on the app, and they make you go in-person between working hours of M-F 9-5p. I called their corporate customer service line to tell them that those hours are absurd, as we work during that time. And as another tactic to delay time and ultimately more money from people, he said he could mail me a cancelation form. What are we, back in 1995?

Quality honest customer service is a lost art. Save your money and pass on this gym.

Horrible experience. I went in and had a tour and set up a date for a day pass to try it out as I come in for my date I approached the front desk and Harry Thanos immediately walks up overhearing I have a pass. He brings me over to his desk and is continuously pressuring me to try and get the membership right away, I explain to him that I want to try it out first before I agree to any terms. When I was first given the day pass the employer told me to reach out to them if there was any issues when I arrive for my day pass. Harry refused to let me in saying I had to pay a $20 fee for the day and also denied my request to reach out to the employee even after they gave me the OK if there was any issues. I do not recommend this facility whatsoever.

EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE STAFF AND MANAGERS. I have never had such a problem with managers or gym staff at any other gym. I went to this gym with high expectations as it seemed luxurious and brand new, but upon arriving and speaking to the managers about having a day pass they were EXTREMELY keen on me getting membership first and were pushing it onto me. It was clear they were not interested in allowing me to try out the gym first despite me having a day pass and were only focused on me signing up which was tremendously disappointing with the way they were shoving it down my throat. This is a beautiful looking gym but it is ruined by the horrendous managers that run it.
