Scammers! I signed up for 12 sessions and paid for it, they gave me a contract with someone else's name and info on it but hey they keep telling me the sessions are mine. I tried for numerous times to ask for a contract with my name on it but they kept saying they can't do it. My company reimburse me and now I cannot because the contract is not in my name. Who knows if my info was printed and given to someone else on their contract. I will be disputing the transaction as fraud since they can't produce a contract. Bunch of scammers

The gym has a lot to offer, as far as a pool and various classes and opportunities. The downfall is as expensive as it is, a lot of the machines are in bad shape. Some of cardio machines have rust on them and have been there for years. One of the ellipticals has had an "out of service" sign on it for months, and it's obvious they have no plan of fixing it. As expensive and crowded as they are, you'd think they could afford to keep their equipment in decent shape. Also, they have crazy fees that most other gyms don't bother you for.

On August 31, 2025, I came to the club to swim and was assaulted by another member. Instead of handling it myself, I reported it to the manager on duty, who advised me to call the police. The police arrived, and the individual was arrested for failing to comply and refusing to provide identification.

The manager handled the situation appropriately at the time and informed me that the member’s account would be canceled. She also mentioned that the GM would follow up with me. However, I never received any communication. I called during the second week of September, left a message for the GM, and still received no response.

This past Sunday, 10/5/2025 I saw the same individual in the locker room. I spoke with the same manager, who told me she believed his membership had been revoked but that the GM had the final say. She said the GM would reach out to me by the end of the day, but no one ever did.

Conversation with the GM (10/6/25)
When I called again on Monday, the GM finally returned my call. He told me that because it was a “he said, he said” situation and the other person was only arrested for noncompliance not assault the club would not revoke his membership. According to the GM, both of us were at fault for the incident, despite there being multiple witnesses who saw what happened. I followed the rules, chose to disengage, and did not handle the situation myself yet the GM still categorized it as a mutual issue.

He stated that the other member is now on a “final warning” and added that if anything else happens involving either of us, both memberships could be canceled.

While I can defend myself, this response is disappointing and concerning. The lack of communication, accountability, and fairness from management is unacceptable. I can’t help but wonder, if this had happened to a woman, would the response have been the same? From this experience I can see that safety is not really a concern of theirs.

New management has absolutely ruined this place. The manager struts around with some bizarre ego trip but can’t even keep the gym properly staffed. I brought a friend in on a guest pass and instead of welcoming us, they forced us to sit and wait for a “sales rep” before we could even touch a weight. We waited over 30 minutes, staring at empty treadmills and racks, until my friend got so frustrated he left to work out at his own gym.

What kind of gym blocks people from actually exercising? It’s supposed to be a place to train, not a timeshare presentation. Between the lack of staff, the pointless red tape, and the unprofessional attitude from management, this place is a joke. Save yourself the headache and go literally anywhere else, even a garage with a pair of dumbbells would be a better experience.

First time here since it's close to my work, because my home gym in Chicago but dam the gym equipment here is SUPER OLD, BROKEN & RUSTY. No way people come here to use these machines. They really need to upgrade their gym equipment. They need to renovate this whole gym tbh so many empty racquetball rooms, could have been more gym space.
Also why are they so thirsty to call my friends that I bring to the gym, like they DONT want a membership, thats why I have them as my guests, they rarely come cause of how busy their days are. But they been calling one of my friends from different numbers after he keeps blocking them.

I have been going to this gym since 2017. Post pandemic it took a turn for the worst, the gym became dirtier and dirtier and equipment was neglected more and more with constant repairs or visible repairs. At the time ownership was under Esporta who promoted incredibly low memberships ($10/month or something similar to this). I attributed the poor qualities to the low membership fee and poor financial resources to support a top tier gym.

Several months ago when the gym was back under ownership of LA fitness I was looking forward to an improvement. Sadly, the opposite occurred. Filth (dust and hair) continues to buildup around equipment, showers continue to grow mold, and recently with the warmer weather the AC appears to suck leaving a nice hot and moist environment.

I continue to go because I live very close and I can’t beat the commute. But, if you are at a toss-up trying to select a new gym, do not go to this gym. I cannot speak negatively of LA fitness as I have experienced excellent service at a handful of other gyms of theirs. Not sure if the company as a whole is lowering their standards or if this gym is sadly not meeting the companies standards.

Was told I had to make an appointment to use my buddies guest pass and I had to come in tomorrow, I couldn’t use it today 4/23. My rating isn’t for the gym itself, it is strictly for the young lady, Mariah (hopefully I spelled her name correctly) that assisted me and my daughter. I do not write reviews often unless someone or something has stood out to me. I have a membership with LA Fitness and sent my daughter a visitors pass to see if she wants to join. Mariah took care of setting my daughter up in the system to allow her to use the 7 day pass. She has a great attitude for working with clients. She was knowledgeable and has an overall great personality. Just the short interaction with her was worth coming to this club, we liked her right away. She was genuine, professional and easy going. She was informative without being too pushy. I can’t stand when a person tries to over sell you. She touched on all the things that you look for in a health club without taking up too much of our time. We were there to work out and she let us do just that. She was both encouraging and supportive of my daughter’s workout goals. And at the end showed my daughter around. Keep up the good.

LA Fitness used to be my go-to before the pandemic. I had a membership, and I really enjoyed the facility. But since the change to Esporta and then changed back to LA Fitness, it is not the same and extremely disappointing. I walked in, and it smelled like urine. The guy who said he would help me took his time and continued to chat. I told them I had an appointment to see Sirenna, but he said he would take care of me instead. Apparently, Sirenna was eating even though she had just called me to come in. He pressured me to get the membership through them instead of the insurance even though I told him I was unwilling to do that. I told him not to worry about it, I would just go to Vasa. In a sarcastic tone, he said, "You should! Have fun at Vasa." This lack of maturity and customer service was horrible. In the words of David Allen Grier and Damon Wayans, "Hated It!" I will spend my well-earned money elsewhere.

So big shout outs to Mr. Brandon Cabrera. I did a 3 day pass at the Crestwood location after being out commison for 3 months and Brandon was so awesome. His customer service, attention to detail and patience was the only reason I returned to the gym the following day. He addressed all concerns and needs for myself and my family; and even introduced me to the the general manager and trainers. He travels to multiple gyms so I was able to find him at Joliet today and register for a premier membership. Even with a month hiatus between our first interaction,he remembered details from our initial conversation. Keep him around, give him more money or a promotion. This gym needs to seriously get up on their maintenance and repairs. I’ve been going to this gym for over 6 months now, roughly 5 days a week. Just about every week something new is broken, out of order, or unusable. Between the lack of maintenance and how rough people are slamming and dropping weights around this place, there is everything from worn out machine pulleys, broken pins, bent bars, worn/cracked pads and so on. It’s very annoying, particularly when there aren’t many duplicate machines. I would not be going to this gym if it wasn’t for convenience.

Overall, this place is great. They have all the equipment that one could need for weight training, plus tons of ball courts, a pool, etc.
That being said, there's always room for improvements. Some of the machines could use replacement or at least change out some of the covers who are cracked.
Also, the sauna is a fantastic way to finish your workout, but the temperature isn't what it should be.

Pros are that it is at an okay location and there is a decent area for stretching and non-machine workout.

Overall, not worth the membership. It is always very hot upstairs where cardio machines are which creates a dangerous environment when doing intense workout. I tried asking about this but was just told “okay” rather than anything being done. A lot of their equipment is out of service, and I’ve never seen any of it fixed in the ten months I’ve been here. It is okay if you come and no one else is there; otherwise you probably will not be able to actually get on a machine. Looking into other gyms rather than renewing when my membership runs out.

Staff is unbothered by any concern you have , kids club is almost always “full” or closed and they haven’t figured out a way to contact people who pay monthly to tell them so when arriving you have to read a sign. Decided to give this gym a try with the 3 day trial. Upon entering and telling them I had a trial I was sat down and the worker tried to convince me to sign up for the $40/month plan. I told him I’d like to try to the gym before buying, worker kinda seemed annoyed. For some reason he signed me up for an appointment for the next day I never talked to him about? Secondly, all the equipment is super old, rusty, clearly second hand from the 90s, check it out for yourself. The cable part of the gym literally feels like working out in a closet lol. Bathrooms are clean, so is the treadmills and basketball court, I genuinely do not like planet fitness but even that is better than this place, especially at $40 a month. It almost seems like they kept the old equipment from the gym that was at this location before that shut down. No bueno. Even VASA is $10 a month and offers 10x the quality 🤥

I guess I should chum my experience up to this gym being in the suburbs? Is this how things operate here in Plainfield? I haven't had such a disturbing incident happen to me going to gyms in LA, SF, or Seattle in the last 25 years.

I'll try to keep it short. I finished my workout. I went to the locker room to shower and get ready for work. When I approached my locker, an employee had his phone propped up in an open locker, FaceTiming his young daughter. She was facing outward, watching the naked men changing and going to and from the showers. The employee was sitting down, changing, allowing for a full camera view from his phone. Was this on purpose?

I tried to bring some awareness to him, "hey, you're in a men's locker room with a young girl on FaceTime" it was a simple statement. No emotion tied to it.

He immediately got in my face. Raising his voice. Telling me he doesn't talk to his daughter. When I say, in my face - in my face. He was about to throw down.

He was so irrational, he could not see how inappropriate his actions were. I don't want to walk around naked in front of someone's young child. It was absolutely disgusting. His actions as an employee were atrocious.

I diffused the situation by just saying, "ok" numerous times, but he wouldn't let up. I grabbed my bag and left.

I explained to the front desk what had happened.

They didn't care. They told me to contact corporate.

I did call corporate to file an official complaint. When I called the gym back directly the next day, the manager, Doug said he took care of it by talking to the employee.

What?

He was doing something illegal. This employee was videoing in a private men's locker room with nude men walking around with his young daughter watching from the phone. How do we know the daughter wasn't taking screen shots or recording? Then to defend him? He got in my face. The employee acknowledged he was FaceTiming and in Doug's words, "became emotional"

After a week of considering my options, I canceled my membership. I don't feel comfortable. Not just with the employee, but with the management's reaction. This was reckless behavior with a poor response by LA Fitness/ESPORTA.

I'd rather drive a few extra miles to feel safer.

I had did a guess pass online and went for my first of THREE days. As soon as I get there the front counter worker said I had to wait for his manager who came shortly after. He makes me sit down at a desk with him, and tells me that my 3 day pass actually only lasts for 1 day because quote on quote "they don't want a bunch of kids just hanging around at the gym". So you guys have a new rule that my 3 day pass is only 1? Was a horrible reason as well. Then he went on a very sales man like pitch which was absolutely unnecessary. My trial was to feel out the gym and see if I MYSELF like it. Not get my 3 day pass cut short, and have some dude try to sell me on it like a door to door man.

I was on a guest pass and was having a positive time initially, I went to the gym the first day of the 3-day pass and scanned in and did my workout without anyone bothering me. However, the next time I went an employee said he had to sit me down and do a "guest sign in". I know this is just to try and make a sale, but I already provided my personal information and waiver of liability for the pass online when I signed up for it. I told the employee I wasn't interested in a sales pitch as I was already interested in the gym and was intending to sign up. But he continued anyway and asked me what plan I was interested in, he then asked me for my phone number (which was already provided in my online sign up) and then he wanted my driver's license, I have no clue how that is necessary for a 3 day guest pass. At that point I just told him I wasn't interested in giving him my DL and left. For management: I was going to apply to be a member at this gym. Now I'm looking anywhere else, because if you can't help but harass someone who is using a guest pass after submitting their personal information already, then I can't imagine what you will do if I try to cancel membership or if you change your rates. Please try and let people experience the gym in peace, aggressive sales tactics and gathering of personal information is a total turn off for me and many others as potential customers.

I had gotten a 3 day pass with my sister and her boyfriend and we went today and we were supposed to do a walk around the gym with Doug and my sisters boyfriend said no we don’t wanna waste your time because because we have a membership elsewhere we are just visiting. And Doug proceeded to say “oh why you’re not gonna commit anyway right” Like coming from a manager is so disrespectful and unprofessional. I am disappointed. Someone needs to get him fired the way he speaks to people. That is unacceptable!

Dirty gym! Rude sales reps with terrible customer service. I do appreciate the lady at the front desk who told me not to bring my bag or personal belongings inside because people have been steeling there.

This place is an amazing clean, organized and fantastic gym. The general manager and all the staff here are really nice and knowledgeable in their job. I haven’t been to another gym that is better than Esporta and I would highly recommend this gym to anyone and everyone.

Gym membership just went up by another $10 per month through my health insurance, however their services remained the same. Apparently now they’re considered an Elite tier and no longer Core. Why would anyone pay more for the same quality of service? No thanks!!

Terrible gym. Very hot and dirty with bad staff who let anyone use the facility and end up with machines broken. Rusty and old machines always broken and smells awful. Very crowded

Just came by for a VIP pass this afternoon to try the club as I may be moving back to the Shorewood area from Omaha, BE. Doug was a great help at getting me acquainted with the club and sharing the excellent amenities. Really helped make a smooth experience. Don't go to this gym. They closed their Oswego location (not my fault) then continued charging fees after cancelation. Upon dispute (multiple calls before reaching someone competent) they said they wouldn't keep charging going forward as if it was some sort of reward, but refused to issue refunds for 3 errant billing cycles. I even had backdated proof of cancelation and they still refused to refund. Going to file a dispute with my credit card company.
