Extremely disappointed with the condition of this gym. I’ve been to several gyms in the area, and unfortunately, this one stands out for all the wrong reasons. The facility is consistently dirty, with a noticeable odor that never seems to go away. Machines are poorly maintained, and many appear to need repairs or cleaning.

The bathrooms are unacceptable — often filthy, with no soap available, and since they removed paper towels, hygiene has gotten even worse. The ventilation throughout the gym is poor, making workouts uncomfortable, especially during busy hours.

It’s clear that upkeep and member experience are not a priority here. This location has potential, but unless management takes cleanliness, maintenance, and basic hygiene seriously, I can’t recommend it to anyone.

Facility Conditions:
The equipment is aging and many machines are rusting due to high humidity levels inside the building. I personally measured humidity levels of 70% or higher in several areas of the gym, despite being told by the Operations Manager that “the system looks normal.” As someone with a medical condition impacted by humidity, this creates a serious health and safety concern.

Gym Culture:
Member etiquette is not enforced. It’s common to find “machine hogging,” where guests occupy a station for 40 minutes or more, often unwilling to let others work in between sets. This creates a frustrating and unwelcoming environment.

Trainer Conduct:
The most concerning issue is the behavior of one elderly personal trainer. Multiple guests, including several female friends of mine, have reported feeling harassed by him—through fat-shaming comments, unsolicited criticism of their workouts, and judgment about their clothing. He has interrupted my workouts to show me photos of his bodybuilding days from decades ago and insists I am “doing exercises wrong,” while ironically demonstrating incorrect form himself. More troubling, he frequently abandons his own clients, neglects to adjust equipment for their needs, and provides poor instruction—posing a liability for both clients and the gym. His attire (jeans and cowboy boots) and constant off-topic conversations (such as announcing an invite to Armani’s funeral) only further highlight a lack of professionalism. Despite complaints to management, the behavior continues.

Accessibility & Cleanliness:
Equipment and mats are constantly moved, making it unnecessarily difficult for guests to access basic resources (e.g., mats now relocated upstairs). The facility feels more focused on aesthetics than convenience. Cleanliness is another recurring issue—reviews consistently note the absence of cleaning staff, and it shows.

Recommendation:
I cannot recommend this facility in its current state. Across the street, Planet Fitness offers a safer, cleaner, and more positive gym culture with readily available machines, proper ventilation, and respectful staff.

I don’t live near the area but stopped in for my workout before an appointment that way. I thought this gym was spacious and clean and the equipment seemed to be in good order. I signed up in a heartbeat! Plans are a bit on the expensive side but the amount of stuff that's included makes it well worth it! Jake, the guy that signed me up didn't make me feel pressured to sign up for anything super expensive and gave me some options and we made a customized plan. I highly recommend working with him! The machines are reliable but outdated, pool is well maintained, plenty of lockers but you gotta bring your own lock.

Hace unos meses comente algo sobre el xq no le daba las 5 estrellas a este gym. Pero ahora vengo a cambiar mis 3 estrellas x 1 ya q no se puede comentar sin dar alguna estrella.
La razon por la cual cambie las estrellas fue xq llevo aproximadamente 7 meses pagando la membresía en este gym, una d las razones x las cuales elegí a LA FITNESS fue x la guarderia..en serio esa fue la única razon.. en sistema d la guardería podría decir q los últimos 5 meses todo fue tan bien tan tranquilo las chicas super atentas a mis niños les encantaba ir con ellas y yo m sentia confiada en dejar ami hijos ahi. Pero hace 2 meses la verdad m siento insegura con la nueva niñera, aparte q para todo hay un problema. Una vez m toco regresarme a casa xq m dijo q esperara media hora en lo q llegaba otra chica xq ella tenia muchos niños, la cosa esq yo solo tenia 1 hora para hacer ejercicios soy d las q no tiene 2 o 3 horas para durar en el gimnasio asi q voy y hago lo mio y regreso en ese momento ya casi serian las 11am y la guardería termina a las 12pm ella queria q m quedara sentada afuera pero literal mis niños ya estan dentro asi q no vi la diferencia con quedar mentada a ir hacer ejercicios ya q estaría en el mismo lugar no m iría d ahi entonces preferí regresarme a casa. Y ahora resulta q antes d yo llegar tengo q llamarles y casi pedirles permiso para ir al gimnasio para saber si aceptarán a mis niños o no x la cantidad d niños limites algo q ya m pareció muy muy exagerado y la verdad super incomodo. Digo pues si sabes llegan mas d 10 niños llama a 2 niñera no hagas a las madres y padres pagar tu membresía x la guardería y q tu guardería no funcione. I’ve been taking my son to the LA Fitness daycare for the past three months, and overall it’s been a great experience. Most of the staff are kind, friendly, and my son absolutely loves them. Honestly, the daycare is the only reason I come to this gym—I need to work out and feel confident knowing my child is in good hands.

However, there’s one specific staff member who concerns me. She doesn’t greet anyone, doesn’t smile, and doesn’t engage with the kids at all. I’ve had to comfort my own child and even other babies while she just sat there, completely detached. That kind of attitude is unacceptable in a childcare setting.

Even if she’s already been addressed, that’s not enough. She should be scheduled on a fixed day so parents like me can avoid that time. The daycare is a huge reason many moms choose this gym. Every staff member should represent care, energy, and warmth. One person like this ruins the whole experience.

Some of these reviews are a little obnoxious, and it shows that most of you don’t attend other gyms or have attended very few gyms in your life. However, this is by far one of the grossest gyms I have ever attended. The bathrooms are truly a biohazard and you’re lucky if they have adequate supplies Such as hand towels or sanitation stations. I average roughly 7 dollars a day in bottled water and I work out five times a week so you do the math and see how much money I spend a month on bottled water on top of my gym membership here. The water that comes out of the fountain truly taste like a pool and should be reported to the health department. There are many gyms and this establishment should take consideration the feedback people give rather than completely ignore it. I’ve brought to the attention the water situation for two years now, so I guess I am full for staying.

The basketball court is permanently “closed” with the rims taken off of the hoops because the front desk manager said people “couldn’t handle it”. The staff treats people like they’re 10 years old and can’t handle playing basketball so they took the rims off. People are paying to use your facilities and you won’t allow them to. Due to family issues have to go out of country 2021 we are out of country still paid whole year payments from my credit card and 2022 card was expired we explained them we called corporate and they are saying we have to pay a$100 enrollment. $39 each. $79 for both so they don’t have a value for old customers. Upon visiting LA Fitness, there was no staff at the front desk to greet my cousin and I, we waited about five minutes before anyone assisted us. When we expressed interest in the gym after signing up for a 3-day pass, both the manager and newly promoted assistant manager showed little enthusiasm in welcoming us. The assistant manager sat us down at his desk without explaining what was happening, and I had to ask for clarification. He then informed us that he was activating our passes.

We inquired about a military discount, and the assistant manager initially claimed there was one to persuade us to sign up for a membership. However, after calling over the manager, we learned that no actual military discount exists, just a general "special" discount available to everyone. This felt misleading and disingenuous.

Once our passes were activated, no one offered a tour of the facility or provided any information about the amenities. The gym itself was poorly maintained, the hot tub had chlorine settled at the bottom, and the overall cleanliness was disappointing. The lack of professionalism and upkeep made for a very unpleasant experience.

This LA fitness is so careless. The showers and hot tub are dirty. It is seriously disgusting and expensive to be going here. Paying more than $70 a month for two people and they don’t even care about the cleanliness. Plus also a personal experience, I have a few guest passes to use up and a family member of mine wanted to workout for the week they were here so I offered a guest pass and they last for a week and the GM only let him in for a day, because apparently too much people were using guest passes. Went into the West Dundee facility today to get a feel for the place and see what they have to offer since we are looking for a gym for our family of three. All the other employees wouldn’t assist me for gaining entry other than to tell me that I am not allowed in due to some policy for the holidays, which was ludicrous because the facility wasn’t even crowded.
The customer service aside from max was abysmal.

Train your employees better and come up with a better policy than discriminatorily not letting people in.

This gym is very welcoming they keep the place clean and the machines clean and working. The people here are very welcoming and friendly, the front desk people are very welcoming and very helpful with any questions you have. The managers here are very helpful, friendly and understanding, when helping you get a membership or if you just have any questions. The people here are very kind and helpful to newcomers.

Equipment always out of service, ppl always on they’re cellphone doing nothing taking up equipment, takes forever to get a chance to use the machine that we need to use
And they took away paper towels not allowing ppl to clean the equipment.

Nice place but way way way way way overpriced I’m paying 50 dollars a month and paid 100$ off the bat and get this I don’t even have a guest pass FOR 50$ a month no guest pass are you kidding me and I can go to any other gym and get charge less then this and still have a guest pass this is outrageous

It says ESPORTA online, as well as on the staff short but when you come with your ESPORTA membership they tell you that they are LAFitnress and you need to pay $10 per person to come in, even though I have ESPORTA membership with free guest option. I am new to area and I drove to that location for over 20 min and got turned down by front desk girl in ESPORTA shirt for having ESPORTA membership. Isn’t that ridiculous!?Disappointing experience

I locked my key in my gym locker cause I’m dumb but karina and Julian saved the day, I felt so bad coming from someone who works at L.AFitness myself but they completely understood and we finally got the locker open, they did not give up! 3 lock cutters later, thanked them so much!!

Equipment is fine although usually dirty and also not very maintained, a main problem is the people who come; a lot of them don't clean, some don't put plates in the right place and generally don't clean their mess, and there are people in the locker room that steal even if you have a lock sometimes

I got the 3 day FREE guest pass and when I was leaving the PT director told me the 2nd day they would make you pay $20. They are extremely pushy and I would read the other reviews with the guess pass. The employees are liars but on the website it says 3 day FREE guest pass. I would avoid, seems very dishonest.

Been going for years. A lot of the aerobic equipment upstairs does not work properly. TV works but electronic board doesn't and vice versa. They need to service them or get new machines. I may be looking into Planet Fitness and several of my friends as well.

The gym is honestly in rough shape. A lot of their machines are not working and it is EXTREMELY dirty. Titus, a personal trainer/manager??, is very pushy and does not respect people’s space. I had him call me numerous times to try and get me to get a membership. Very unprofessional. Also, you cant bring guests anymore.

Shut down the basketball courts twice in 2 months then found out they are taking the basketball courts out... had to cancel my membership due to this...no difference between this gym and the planet fitness in the same parking lot if you can't trust them to keep the amenities that you signed up for....they say it's a safety thing yet they don't monitor their own courts instead keep 3 employees sitting at the front desk area chit chatting .... Very disappointing experience(going to miss playing bball with the great group of players that they had going there)

I came in first time the place looks clean and well kept had some trouble with the memberships and guest pass but Moises helped us out and even gave us a trial to see if we like the place and overall really liked the customer service and the place looks clean and the people are really respectful
