Dropped ~$35 for a Pilates drop-in — class was good, instructor knew their stuff, but the space felt tight and a little too boutique-y for me. Gym’s cozy, got your basics like cardio machines and kettlebells, but for the price, I kinda expected more. Staff was polite but not super welcoming. Cool spot if you’re nearby, but probably wouldn’t make it my main gym.

I started personal training at Lateral last year. I love every bit of it- the space is amazing, has every equipment you need, it very clean and layout is amazing. The owner and trainers are super knowledgeable and friendly. At times when I train alone, the trainers around will always help with form correction and techniques 100% recommend for personal training or using the space for your own workouts.

I’ve been training at Lateral Fitness for the past 8 years, and it’s been an amazing experience! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the gym is well-equipped, and it’s always kept spotlessly clean. Eric, the owner, runs a top-notch business and takes pride in maintaining and upgrading the facility. I couldn’t ask for a better place to train!

Owner and staff are super friendly. I used this gym for both lunchtime workouts and PT when I dislocated my shoulder. Has all the equipment you need without the crowd.

I have been with Lateral Fitness since it opened (11.5 years ago) and I have been training with the owner, Erik, for 22 years. He runs one of the best fitness center in the fitness industry. It is always clean, with the state of the art equipment. The trainers there are amongst the best there is in the industry and the front desk staff are always very friendly and welcoming. If I miss a session and I bring that to the owners attention, I am immediately credited. I can not say one bad thing about Lateral Fitness.

Very difficult getting someone to answer the phone. Front desk staff can’t handle any issues. Manager doesn’t come to the phone to solve issues if they are training someone. BEWARE! Even after canceling your membership lateral fitness continues to charge you.

This gym is fantastic- clean, not crowded, comfortable, and quiet but with a great playlist. I work out with a personal trainer twice a week here; it is the most welcoming environment. They have all the equipment to work out your entire body (although I wish they didn't have the sleds because I don't want to do them anymore, Michael). The staff is incredible, from Taariq, who is a freaking delight, the owner Erik, and all the personal trainers here. Everyone is kind, funny, and knows their stuff. My trainer, Michael Wollpert, has the patience of a saint and dance moves that will keep you motivated.
I recommend this gym 11 out of 10 times. I would say walk over and sign up, but given the business, it is probably better to run and get that cardio up.

Awesome space and great workout at a PowerHour interval training class with Hope. Incredibly clean and spacious studio with locker rooms and towel service. If only I lived in Chicago, I'd be back frequently!

I have been going to Lateral Fitness since it opened and it keeps getting better and better. Lateral is definitely one of the best places to exercise in Chicago. Whether you are new to exercising or super fit you can find a class or trainer who will fit what you are looking for and will help you meet your fitness/health goals.

Review Update
This studio is in the process of reprogramming - they have some newer instructors and are playing with a couple different formats.
I want to like the Just Strength, but find the instructor uninspiring. The studio space itself can be challenging too with the hard surface there are some activities that I just don't feel comfortable doing. And at other times it is just too small.
I've been going here less frequently, but hope that they can find their sweet spot. They seem to do well on the personal training side of the house.
_ _ _
I attend classes regularly here as part of ClassPass.
I find the classes to be ok - challenging, but not particularly inspired - and the 7am time slot works well for me.
Shower facilities are a big plus.

My wife bought me four training sessions with Erik a year and a half ago. As a life-long workout junkie, I was skeptical that I'd get much out of it. I'm an EBC member and have tried several of there trainers. They were not intense enough to make it worth my time. I go to lateral once a week and have yet to have the same workout with Erik. Intensity is not a problem and I leave drained. It's my favorite workout of the week. My wife also works out with Erik and is in Adrienne's 6 week challenge now. She loves both workouts! I would highly recommend Lateral Fitness if you're serious about taking your workouts to another level.

My friend and I took a Pilates class here this past weekend. Instructor was great! She was able to adjust the movements for those of us who are experienced plus the newbies in the class. Really good one on one attention.
I also like the Quick Fit lunchtime 30 min full body workout class. A great way to squeeze a workout into my day.
Locker room was really A+, entire place is very clean. There was a definite relaxing, welcoming and personal feel to the entire place. I love the convenient location too-1/2 a block from the brown line stop.
