As a long time member, I’ve had time to analyze and understand a bit of the establishment’s foundations and have some raised concerns and complaints about how they operate and treat members and the gym as a whole. One thing I’ve notated is how various members receive special treatment from supervisors and employees alike just because they hold conversations with each other or know each other outside of th establishment. Many times have I been forced to come up and check in my guest because of policies and yet just as many times have I seen where these supervisors alike are able to wave and welcome people all and all us members have to is just stare you down as we wait at the gates to open up (at least this is what happens to members with the VIP card I’m presuming). And speaking of supervisors; let’s talk about how well they do their jobs. All they do is supervise!! I can’t even ask
that new supervisor they hired for help because all she does is have other associates do the work. Why hire them if they’re no good customers or the company itself? Talk about hospitality am I right?

UPDATE: 9/1/25
- Rate went up $10 to $359/month. Initiation stayed at $400

UPDATE: 9/2/24
Single rates are now $349/month hahaha that is beyond laughable. People please save your money and go to another gym. This place is nowhere near worth that price.

This gym is bad business and just a money grab. I was a member for 2 years and within the first year I moved away for work which had me out of state for 9 months. I continued to pay the membership because they wouldn’t allow me to put it on hold.

I cancelled my membership recently but was forced to pay 1 more month.

The fees continue to rise for what reason?

Why is tennis extra? Why is golf extra? Why is parking only 3hrs?

The restaurant is severely overpriced especially when the membership fee is what it is

The showers were constantly out of wash cloths

For being such a large space and for the extremely high fee there should be more equipment.

Where’s the calf machine?
Where’s the outdoor workout area?

People, yes the gym is pretty but this company will continue to raise the rates without adding anything to justify it.

I truly won’t be surprised if an individual membership reaches $400-500/month while providing nothing extra.

One of the best fitness clubs that I have ever been to. I have been a member for about 10 years and they continually look to improve (adding classes, adding/replacing equipment, reconfiguring). Weekends can get crowded and no guests allowed on F/S/S and on holidays. The pool is a nice amenity when not crowded. Part of the experience I suppose....

So uncomfortable and unbelievable that this guy on the front desk even we are members doesn't allow me and my guest to go and have a coffee on the restaurant. SUPER RUDE!!
No one asking anything for free just charge for the guest even if you need to do so to go and drink a coffee upstairs.
This is the way you loose customers.
I don't even catch his name but hope the managers do something...tall guy named ALEX and is 7:04 am.

What a joke of a pool this summer. For years the summer pool experience has been getting worse at Midtown and this year is no exception. The geniuses that run this place this summer think it was a good idea to ban eating outside food by the pool. Hey, you manage a gym and hotel, it is not Alinea here - I can eat whatever I want. It is honestly quite hilarious that they think they can do this and send a 18 year old staff after you to tell you to stop eating food.

I'm visiting family in Chicago for 4 weeks. My cousin is bringing me to Midtown to help her with her form. The Personal Training manager came to us and told us we can't do personal training. When we explained him who am I and that I don't even live in the USA, his response was that I should at least do the exercises with my cousin. This is very unprofessional - what if I have an injury or if I can't do the exercises at the moment? My cousin is also paying them money every time she brings me as a guest, and their manager still came and make us uncomfortable! No need to wonder why they don't have business when it comes to training - their trainer thinks everyone can do the same exercises no matter what!

No place is perfect, but they can try. And you can tell at Midtown that they really do try. I hate to see any negative reviews about this place because it is one of our favorites. It’s very easy to be an armchair quarterback, it is very difficult to run an operation like this kiddos to them they get better all the time and we really enjoy our membership. I especially like the new music at the pool. Thank you for that.

While I really enjoyed the Midtown Athletic Club facilities and loved my tennis lesson, I did experience significant confusion around the membership cancellation and rejoining process.

Verbal conversations did not fully match the written policies, and important details — like the difficulty of canceling or the requirement to pay a new enrollment fee upon returning — were not clearly explained upfront. If you're considering joining, I highly recommend getting every detail in writing, asking specific questions about cancellation and re-enrollment, and not relying on verbal assurances.

The club itself is beautiful, but clear and upfront communication regarding membership terms is an area that definitely needs improvement.

Pros - The club is staffed by very nice front line team. The crew is chipper, helpful and kind. The equipment In the facility is new and in great condition. The group class rooms are very nice, with top level AV and sound. Cons - the club is filthy. The women’s locker room lockers are filthy. The first thing I do is lay a towel on the floor of the locker, as these lockers are not cleaned, and there is generally a layer of dirt, and body hair on the floor of the lockers. Don’t get me started on the condition of the toilet stalls. I have never seen anyone actively cleaning the equipment in the cardio rooms. The club is PACKED all the time. In addition to being crowded, the club is crowded with ill mannered children. The food is terrible. The parking garage is free, but cold and dirty. If you have high standards I would recommend to avoid this facility in favor of East Bank Club

Pros: Complimentary parking. Nice friendly team. Equipment is new and in a good state of repair. Awesome location. Love the little outdoor parking lot.

Cons: The club is dirty. The lockers in the mens room are not cleaned with any regularity. They do not require users of the hot tub or pool to shower before using the pool, which I think of as a basic standard. I confirmed this with the helpful friendly guy at the front desk. This is gross. A guy in his underwear got in the hot tub at the indoor pool this morning. Club is small and crowded with families and teenagers that have poor gym etiquette that is exacerbated by a small gym.

The showers are crumbling and have visible mildew. If you look up you'll see bugs and dirt in the screen they have hanging to block the view of the crusty old ceiling.

Recently remodeled facility with high quality new equipment and a friendly team is the good. The reason for the one star:

-Lack of sanitary standards at the club. The pool and hot tub are regularly used by people that are in their sweaty gym clothes that will then disrobe and get into the pool or hot tub in their underwear. Repeated notifications to Club management yield no changes or enforcement.
-There is no shower on the pool deck, which creates a situation where swimmers don’t shower before they get in the pool.
-The club is packed with teenagers that lack basic gym etiquette.
If you are the parent of a poorly behaved teenager and would like an environment where they can commune with like-minded teenagers, this would be a wonderful gym for you
-The interior of the lockers are filthy and not cleaned with any regularity

Midtown Athletic Club has great equipment and a friendly staff, but the complete disregard for hygiene makes it impossible to recommend. What I am sharing has already been brought up several times with staff as an attempt to have these concerns addressed with no luck.

There are NO showers on the pool deck, meaning people jump straight into the pool or hot tub without rinsing off. Basic hygiene isn’t enforced.

The hot tub and pool are regularly used by people still in their sweaty workout clothes, who then strip down to their underwear and get in. Management has been notified multiple times, but nothing changes.

The locker rooms are filthy and don’t appear to be cleaned with any regularity.

The gym is packed with teenagers who have no concept of gym etiquette, making workouts frustrating for those who actually want to workout.

If you value cleanliness and basic hygiene standards, look elsewhere.

This is a beautiful gym but horribly run with its priorities in the wrong place. This gym is a nightmare if you're seeking a focused fitness environment. It's less of a gym and more of a chaotic daycare center that resembles a Disney cruise at its busiest. The place is overrun by poorly mannered teenagers and families with children, especially during the summer months when the pool becomes a kiddie play zone. Teenagers will take up equipment to play on their phones and the midtown management clearly has made a decision to cater this gym to families than to other adults without children.

Trying to use any equipment or find a quiet spot for your workout is next to impossible amidst the constant noise and commotion caused by kids running wild.

If you're serious about your fitness goals with a focus on adults vs children look elsewhere. This place is a complete waste of time and money unless you enjoy navigating through a sea of screaming children + poorly mannered teenage brats, and dealing with the resulting mess and chaos.

Do yourself a favor and find a gym that values a peaceful workout environment over catering to families looking for a daycare alternative.

Suggestions: Children/teenager free zones. Children/teenager free days at pool or at least better adult only hours at the pool. Most Chicago gyms of this size have a lot of families but others like East Bank Club do a better job catering to the adults that aren't interested in paying $500/mo to hang out with other peoples children and poorly parented teenagers.

Most frustrating part in all of this is how we were sold on this gym. My wife and I were warned that the gym was a children zoo but still came to check it out because of it's location and amenities. We asked the sales person directly about the teenager/child problem and they promised us new rules were being implemented to help address this as (in his words) the leading reason people are leaving midtown are the kids. He had mentioned restricted family memberships, adult only pool hrs starting at noon, as well as a few other "soon to come" changes. None have be implemented in over a year. So management in this gym knows the children/families are a problem and lie to potential new members that are aware of it to bait them into membership.

I am a member here since the beginning, club was ok but now under new management everything is deteriorating. Starting with unfriendly trainers, lousy cleaning service ( they talk to each other and drink coffee ) instead cleaning , machines not maintained properly, they squick and make crazy noises , good people getting fired , members talking one the phones super loud ignoring others , members talking to each other showing no respect to others ! I guess it’s a business and money matters but you have to listen to people who pay your bills , if not ( seen that happened before ) members will just leave , the competition is stiff.
I am watching this fiasco unfolding from the inside and can’t believe that such a nice club doesn’t have good, solid management team. I miss old manager Mahony, he was always on the top of things , mirror on the second floor it’s broken for a long time again, doesn’t look like it will be replaced soon.
So if you like my advice, stay away from Midtown , they are cheaper and better choices around , stay in shape !

I've been a member of this gym since 2021, and while the membership fee is notably higher than even luxury gyms like Equinox, I believe it offers exceptional value. It's more than just a gym—it's a comprehensive sports club. The range of services is unbeatable, with top-tier amenities including a hotel, restaurants, pools, and much more. For me, it's like the sports-focused equivalent of Soho House, offering an elevated, all-inclusive experience that goes beyond fitness.

A high end gym that actually offers good value. Midtown fills the niche of people who are sick of working out at run down, overcrowded gyms like LA fitness but still want to make sure they are getting their money's worth. Yes it's on the pricier side but, if you have the budget for it, definitely a worthwhile investment.

The gym is nice and everything but there aren’t any calf machines, a cold plunge…the rooftop is ehh. No mouthwash, non premium body wash, lotion etc…It would be absolutely amazing if the price wasn’t $300 lol. Plus, it keeps rising! Also it’s one basketball court and it’s across the street! It’s close to my job so idc but definitely need to explore other options.

Hiked rates WAY too much. So many better alternatives exist for people to pay these fees imo. Also a ton of things are not included in the price (tennis, golf, a few premium workout classes). The pool is also way too crowded over the summer. I’d suggest putting your hard earned money elsewhere.

September 2022 fees were
$250 enrollment
$249/month

September 2024 fees are
$400 enrollment
$349/month

For $400, you’re getting nothing new that wasn’t already available in 2022 for $250.

Over the past two years, all they’ve done for an extra $100 a month is remodel two classrooms, add a few racks, and put a Dyson hairdryer in the locker room. And they still don’t have a calf machine.

Updated: The gym is not worth the money. At all. I've been a member for about 2+ years now and I'm considering terminating my membership. The customer service is honestly awful. They don't solve any problems and are really rude to members who have complaints or issues. The club very much incentivizes teenagers to become members, which unfortunately results in about 40 kids hogging equipment with poor gym etiquette, hanging on the treadmills in slides or barefoot. The membership is very pricey, which would be totally fine if there was enough value to justify it, but, tennis costs extra, the pool is over crowded in summer, pilates costs extra, they charge aggregious amounts for drinks and food at their happy hours, etc. The guest policy is ridiculous. THREE TIMES I've brought guests and have been turned away because it's "Saturday" or a holiday. Most recently, I called a day ahead of time and they promised me a guest would be allowed on Friday. Showed up, they turned us away. AGAIN. I want guests when I'm being visited. On weekends and holidays when it matters. For how much you pay, there's no value outside of a nice-ish gym. I've sent in a couple of requests and comments. I've been promised there will be resolutions and change and in my several years as a member, not one thing has changed. There is very little actual networking opportunity with other members. You have to already know people to meet people here. One of my feedback pieces was about pieces of equipment that keep breaking/ going missing and either I was never responded to or was ignored which really does suck. I keep trying to find more value than "I like these 2 yoga teachers" and I desperately want to because this gym is in my neighborhood but I'm really struggling.

The gym has great, clean equipment and great classes. Outdoor pool is a plus. But it is 100% a children's zoo. There are loud children everywhere at the pool, especially during the summer. It is obscene how many kids and how unruly it can get at the pool. The gym, on the other hand, is less chaotic and unruly but you still get so many teenagers just idling by the equipment, sometimes not even wearing proper workout attire (literally in slides). I've even seen kids on exercise bikes using their switch. When I joined the gym, I too was told that management was halting family registrations to refocus on the individual or couples membership. I don't see that reflected. That being said, the gym is great. Facilities are clean, equipment is great, classes are plenty. There is no other gym like this in Chicago. I mean that sincerely but also, you'll be hard pressed to find another gym that doubles as a children's zoo.

Look this place is great if you have a family, more than a gym it felt like a family club. a lot of kids and teens everywhere, during the summer even worst. As someone who came from the Equinox franchise it was a hard adjustment, wouldn't recommend to someone without kids.

Immaculate bathrooms, sauna, steam rooms, and showers (10/10 for cleanliness)

Stop advertising family memberships on your website when you aren’t actually allowing people to sign up for one. What a waste of time going down there for an appointment, only to be told family memberships weren’t available and then giving me the hard sell on an individual membership to wait a year in the hopes that family memberships would become available.

This gym has plummeted in quality over the past few months. The steam room was out of service for two months over a simple door fix, and the hot tub jets have been broken for eight months with no resolution. East Bank Club is far superior, especially in customer service. I was forced to extend my membership for an extra month despite canceling the previous month. Every attempt to use my referral bonus credits was thwarted by "system issues," and I couldn't use my three yearly guest passes due to another "glitch ." Four days before my membership expired, I was told I could have brought guests and paid $35, which would have been refunded—information conveniently withheld. Guess what? The last three days, I couldn't use my guest passes either due to yet another random rule stating that from Friday to Sunday during specific times of the year, guests aren't allowed. The showers have large gaps, allowing other people to see you while you're showering. Many days recently, there were no bath towels at all. Good luck ever entering the swimming pool without a swarm of little kids. Management is also racist—just look for yourself at which ethnicities get the daytime shifts and which ones are stuck with the graveyard shifts.

Last year, 38 cleaning crew workers were laid off, and management asked them to sign resignation agreements that would prohibit them from holding the club liable for abruptly firing them without notice, according to news releases. Signing the document would also make it harder for the workers to collect unemployment benefits. Workers were also told they had to sign the document if they wanted to retrieve their belongings from their lockers and receive the pay they were owed. The majority of the workers refused to sign the document. A former Midtown employee said management wouldn’t allow her into the building to get her medication from her locker because she refused to sign. According to AM 780, a Midtown employee said they worked under less-than-ideal conditions, including having to dispose of trash containing used needles without proper protective equipment. There were always towels with blood, and they were constantly told to “just throw them into the garbage.”

Multiple times, someone was peeking into the showers, and management did nothing about it. We had to call CPD to address the issue since Midtown didn’t do anything. Upper management is utterly incompetent. This place has worse customer service than the DMV, nickel-and-dimes you for every little thing, and is filled with greed and ego. Avoid this place like the plague.

Customer service could be better. I brought my mother with from out of town as a guest and was told I couldn’t bring her in due to it being a holiday. I mentioned I was unaware of this policy as it was never mentioned before. There were also no signs put up anywhere and when I mentioned the lack of communication I was told it was mentioned in the weekly newsletter at the very bottom. Well, not everyone checks their emails all the time. So my mom was not allowed in. When I got inside the gym it was empty. I mentioned this to the manager and she told me the gym was packed. Attached photo shows how empty it was. The pool was busy, but I told her we didn’t want to use the pool, just workout. Well no exceptions can be made at this gym even to loyal customers. The burden of responsibility falls on me for not checking my email and reading through the entire weekly newsletter.

The facilities themself are very nice. Gym can get crowded quickly and you may have to wait for equipment. Locker rooms are clean and well kept.
Would like to see a decline bench added and perhaps a cold plunge would be a nice touch. The childcare has also been great, the staff there are very friendly and my son loves going there.

Monthly fees continue to rise despite no value add in services provided. When we joined over a year ago, the sales rep was excited to share plans for a new adults- only pool “coming soon.” The pool is always overrun by small children, and nearly every time I have tried to find a chair, I was told there was a long waitlist (over 50 people). Instead of placing limits on the number of family memberships, they continue to accept more new memberships and more money at the expense of existing members’ experience.

Also, the gym space on the 2nd floor is often occupied by numerous teenagers on their phones and small children running around who are not old enough to use the machines. Not only is this a liability and safety concern for these unattended children, but it is also very frustrating when trying to complete a workout. I have seen children and teens in flip flops and slippers on the machines. No sense of gym etiquette either, as weights are frequently not re-racked. There is no management oversight of these spaces nor reinforcement of proper gym etiquette.

I joined July/ August of 2023. Overall review: It’s just alright. It’s a good location, the staff is nice and there are lots of classes. This is the bare minimum. Overall, it’s just kinda hard to get things scheduled, and I don’t feel valued. Detailed review: I joined the summer tennis program and had a full rupture to the Achilles while at Midtown on Day 2 of my membership. They were very communicative and the Director at the time called me and said whenever I was ready to come back, there would be room for me, and they’d set me up with a trainer who had experience with rehabilitation for a few sessions. Once I healed, I reached out to rejoin. Despite the manager telling me I’d be able to join when I was ready, they put me on a waitlist. I explained the circumstances, didn’t matter.
Once I was off the waiting list, they wouldn’t let me sign up to start a month out, which meant I couldn’t cancel current gym membership without overlap. That month I paid two $300 memberships. This was annoying, but not the end of the world…. It just made me feel like “a number”. Which I get it…. It’s a business, you can’t make exceptions for everyone. Excited about all the amenities, I couldn’t wait to dive in! I used the “complimentary” launch package to try pickleball, Pilates, tennis and training. The people who sign you up are really responsive when you are signing up, but much less so if you have questions after you join. Pickleball: Fun. Wanted to join classes. Most the beginner classes meet mid day ( Sadly, I have to work during the day). I was advised to reach out to the pickleball guy to ask about if times would be changing…. No response. Tennis: Reached out to do tennis privates. I 1) emailed 2) went to the office 3) texted a tennis coach directly…. No response. Still have not had anyone reach out. Ideally, when I inquired, it would have been easy to find a trainer and get lessons. Pilates: love the Pilates instructors. But the studio is poorly designed. Blind spots all over the room (Pilates you really should be able to view the instructor, and they should have sight of you to make sure you are doing the right). Also, the private Pilates is in the same room and often at the same time as classes. So if you are on the back reformer, you can’t hear your instructor because their voice is competing with the separate instruction going on behind you. Yoga: Amazing. Frequent classes. Every instructor is fantastic. The studio is gorgeous. This is saving Midtown, in my opinion. Keep the workshops coming. Pool: I have yet to visit the pool. But I hear that it’s exhaustingly crowded and overrun with kids. This doesn’t surprise me because the gym’s common spaces are also crowded with children and the weight rooms full of teenagers. (Just an observation…. Letting people know because I been to a lot of gyms and never had so many children almost take me out at the knees). Back to the pool: I asked another member and they told me people drive in early morning, set stuff on chair and drive back home until they are ready to enjoy the pool. Also, don’t think you’ll be bringing a friend… no guests on weekends (too many bags on chairs already). Personal Training: Decently priced, actually. spent $2k on sessions. They keep you consistent, but my only feedback is listen to the client. When I met with the guy that runs the department, my goal was to “feel confident on the equipment upstairs”… hoping to build a foundation so I could eventually workout by myself. Disappointed to say I still don’t feel comfortable with a lot of the machines I wanted to use. I also felt like I was not being listened to. Parking Garage: frequently crowded (not surprising, it’s in the city after all). Nice to have in the winter.
Equipment: pretty solid. Overall, I just expected a higher-end, detail- oriented experience and strong communication. This gym treats me like every other gym “just another recurring payment that is replaceable”. Also, app could be stronger.

I Love working out with Jenny in group training. She also leads an excellent nutrition class which is helpful for losing weight. She made me feel comfortable weight lifting with little prior experience and focuses on pelvic floor health and abdominal muscle strength which are both so important after having kids! Would absolutely recommend her to others!

Fresh off of the Lockdown, I was feeling unmotivated and out of shape. I had no routine and felt like I had no purpose. I joined Midtown as a motivator and it changed my life. This is a world class facility with an equally amazing community. The servers in the cafe know me by name, my son loves going to the on-site childcare, and I've become friends with many of the trainers. Not to mention, I've met so many great members that make going to Midtown an enjoyable experience every single day. They motivate me. It really does feel like a home away from home.

Is it expensive? It sure is. But it's worth it. If you're a parent and debating whether or not you should sign up, then take my advice and DO IT. Even if you don't have kids, do it. It is not just a family place.

If you want to challenge yourself, then this is the place. The variety of classes offered is unmatched. The instructors are the best in Chicago. I discovered my love for boxing here and frequently mix in other classes like Apex and 312 (HIIT style classes). They literally have something for everybody.

Midtown has been amazing for our family. Thank you for being such a welcoming place.

Great gym for many reasons, but chief among them for us was the expertise, knowledge, and interpersonal dynamic of their trainers. All were friendly, and appeared to be good at what they do, but our specific experience with the personal trainer Jeff was second to none. He provided invaluable insight and help, always willing to provide coaching and tips even when he was working the floor or doing other things. He really, really knows his stuff and was exceptionally personable. Having a team member like him on board was a massive blessing for our time at Midtown.

Love this spot. I've been a member for over five years now and it is my home away from home. Clean, spacious, beautiful, with a variety of classrooms and open areas to experience different workout vibes. Vegetarian menu options at the cafe mean I can go and stay all day :) The super-friendly staff is always ready to help out. Special shout out to the spa team (Rachel, the manager, and Stas - best pedicure you can find!) and to Jenny Maloney, a personal trainer and registered dietician who is particularly helpful for women of a certain age who need teamwork and support to get strong and focused (try her group training sessions!).

Well- What can I say. This place is great! It is - of course - what you make of it and ymmv, but my experience has been great!
It’s a gym, it’s a community, it’s really welcoming. I'm on a "nod and say whats up level" with at least 7 people! In age where we don't really talk to people out loud anymore thats incredible! Are there wanna-be social media models posting up on weight machines while scrolling Tik-Tok and not getting reps in? Totally! Are there little clicks of people who group occupy benches and machines and not welcome you into their little club? Oh Yeah! Guess what!? It’s busy at busy times! The tell is usually if you are parking on level 4 or above! But even when I’ve had to park on 5 you can get a work out in and access all the machines in your routine that day without having to wait until your heart rate drops back to couch sitting! The classes are where the place really shines. If you added up Orange Theory, Soul Cycle, Pilates and Yoga classes at separate studios you would exceed the monthly rate quickly. I don’t like their newer guest policy and think that if you are going to eliminate it on the weekends for free you should have access to unlimited guests on non peak times! This used to just be the summer season because of the pool but just like anything once it’s done it aint going back to the way it was!

I have also hosted a private event here on “5” and we host our out of town workers at the hotel and it’s always great! Also shout outs to Coaches Arti, Ron, PJ and Zippy! I also get personal training from Ryan Y and he is great! Well structured workouts, contact thru the week, pushes when he needs to and is really supportive of my goals! He is also into betting an Outback Steakhouse Blooming Onion on the Bears keeping Justin Fields! You’re gonna lose and I can already taste that sweet salty deliciousness! Ryan rules!

My family and I joined Midtown in the fall of 2022 and have enjoyed many days hanging out with friends at the pools, kids’ swimming lessons and the summer camp. The best thing about Midtown is the people who work there. I have particularly appreciated my personal training sessions with Ted R. He has worked with me through marathon training, triathlon training, bike race training, ski training, HYROX training and more. Ted is creative in his workouts and puts a lot of effort into tailoring the workouts to my goals. My sessions have ensured that I turn up on the start line healthy and strong. I highly recommend working with Ted, especially if you are an endurance athlete.

I used to play only tennis in the early years, but now I love to swim almost every day, use the gym with everything you can imagine, and more. Midtown also has a top personal trainer staff. I utilize two personal trainers. First, Sarah Tuchler keeps pushing me to higher levels of strength, and James Ettling helps me achieve flexibility and a full range of motion for my body. I’ve been a member at Midtown for just over 8 months and I love it there.

Personal training: I’ve been working with a personal trainer, Elodie, since I started and she has been great! She is knowledgeable, kind, and challenges me to push myself, even when I don’t want to. She will also seamlessly adapt what we’re doing along the way if my body doesn’t feel right. I definitely recommend her. And one time she and I had a scheduling miscommunication and the head coach, Johnny, stepped in and trained me that day. I was so appreciative and impressed.

Classes/instructors: I’ve liked all of the teachers I’ve had so far - especially Natalia for boxing. The instructors are generally approachable, energetic and kind. They make it feel like an inclusive atmosphere.

Facilities: It feels good to walk in because it’s a beautifully designed space. The standard facilities are clean and ample and they also have luxuries like a steam room, a restaurant with good food, and both an indoor and outdoor pool. The only drawback for me so far is that there isn’t a private space to do a confidential call. So sometimes I have to leave before I’d like to.

I've been working with Midtown's staff member and professional trainer, Elodie Senetra, for over two years. I believe she is one of the profession's most experienced & committed trainers.

I started training as part of Midtown's new member Launch program and enjoyed the variety & challenge Elodie put into the sessions & then continued with personal one-on-one sessions after that.

Elodie is focused on helping me achieve my goals and makes every session fun and challenging. My fitness has increased noticeably, and I've seen improvements in my ability to complete more complex mobility exercises, lift progressively heavier weights & generally push myself harder throughout each session. She ensures that my technique is always correct to avoid any injuries.

Elodie is extremely reliable & punctual – always set up & ready to start training ahead of time, with an exercise routine planned. I thoroughly enjoy working out at Midtown and recommend Elodie Senetra to anyone looking to improve their fitness.

If I were reviewing just my trainer Ryan Y., this would be a 5-star rating. I hate weight training and whenever I train with Ryan, I always wish I am strong enough to violently throw the medicine ball at him. I am sure he wishes the same, because he is a good trainer and just truly wants the best for me! I am lucky to have been matched with Ryan almost a year ago, because he is able to get me to come to the gym and submit myself willingly to an hour of punishment. I know my bone mass will thank me in my old age.

The gym is great and I love going there to work out and hang out. But in the summer, the pool gets overrun by children that it's almost unusable for an adult wanting to peacefully swim laps outside. I think the gym's focus are families and if you are easily annoyed by children, this is not a place for you. I realize the gym is a gym but I find myself having to work there sometimes and there is no place there to take a work call decently. Given the shifting work styles, I wish they can create space for that like what they are doing in Palatine (or even just stop playing music in the couch area). Finally, if you are not connected to a tennis coach, it is impossible to get scheduled for a private tennis lesson. I have been trying for the longest time with no luck. If you also are not committed to staying up until midnight when they release schedules for tennis courts and classes, it's impossible to get court time when you want them.

I’ve met some wonderful people at midtown, Adrianna being one of them as an outstanding trainer, along with James.

As insightful and knowledgeable the trainers there are, unfortunately management is not. They promised certain equipment and never got it, during the summer the pool is taken over by children who are not properly supervised by their parents.

Management has ignored my complaints, and went as far as Richard Earney telling me, “if I don’t like it to find a different gym.” So now I’m taking his advice and going else where 🤡

Respectfully,
Nate

I have had personal trainers coast to coast at some of the finest gyms. Midtown’s MJ is by far the best trainer I have had the privilege to work with on my personal fitness goals. I look forward to every session with him.

My family have been midtown members for many years. This year I decided to try something new and enlisted the help of a personal trainer, Elodie. I have been really motivated throughout my workouts with Elodie. She pushes me to do exercises I normally wouldn’t and to lift heavier weights, which was one of my goals. Working with her has really enhanced my experience working out at midtown.

Midtown Athletic Club Chicago location is a dream gym. The facility is always clean and the staff is friendly! My trainer Elodie has been life changing. She is extremely motivating and brings fun (as much as you can have while sweating) to our sessions. She is knowledgeable and is always changing up our workouts. Would more than recommend her!

I’m so happy to have met Jenny my trainer at Midtown. She’s always keeping our workouts unique and tailored to my needs and goals. The bonus is that she’s a registered dietitian, so she always is educating me on how to improve my nutrition and eating habits.

I was hotel guest last weekend & had the best experience! This all in one hotel/athletic club allows you to never leave in this cold weather. Just what I needed. If I lived nearby I would be a member 100% it’s so convenient something for everyone. But I was compelled to write this review bc my experience with James! I’ve been doing physical therapy and seeing a chiropractor for 2 years now consistently and what he did for me completely fixed me! He’s literally Jesus & heals with his hands! My problem has been joints , not muscle or bones and he fixed that for me . Forever grateful I met him. Go see him and ask for him!

I’ve been working with Matt Lee for a few months, and it’s been a very refreshing experience. Matt has been very accommodating with my recent injuries to ensure that I’m getting stronger/recovering without risking re-injury.

I can wholeheartedly recommend Matt for anyone who is looking for a personal trainer.

We could not be happier with our teenage son’s trainer Steve R. He has helped him build muscle, agility, and confidence that have not only helped his tennis game but his general fitness. Steve R. is a true role model, coach, and friend to our son and we are grateful.

I’ve been a patron of Midtown for over a year now, and wanted to express gratitude for the stellar service they provide. I’ve had great interactions with Kim and the swim programme and would hail it as the best we’ve used in the Chicagoland area. Unfortunately, I haven’t had any personal training with the exception of a muscle repair session with James and you man gotta try that, especially if you’re suffering from previous injuries.

All in all, Midtown is a well establish and well-run club, I highly recommend.

Midtown is the best fitness facility in Chicago. My personal trainer, Matt Lee, is very knowledgeable, flexible with time and committed to my fitness goals. The facility has everything from numerous indoor & outdoor tennis courts to a salon. I highly recommend.

After being a member for over 6 years, it took the recommendation of my tennis coach to try the personal training program and I am so glad that I did! My trainer, Elodie, has helped me get stronger and feel more comfortable in parts of the gym that I haven't ever used since joining. Highly recommend Elodie and Midtown to anyone considering joining.

I have been training with Steven Richardson for almost a year now, and my experiences have been great. Steve really cares about his clients and their improvements. He even goes as far as making an at-home workout plan. He worked to accommodate all of his clients and is great at communicating. After every training session I feel stronger and that I’ve improved. I have a great training experience with Steve every session.

After a couple years of working out at home after COVID, Midtown has been great at reinvigorating and making things fun again. Danny in particular has been awesome as a trainer to work with. Great balance of pushing, but not going too far and making sure your form and technique is up to snuff. He’s also been great about stressing the importance of rest and recovery, especially when he sees me at the gym between sessions.

I’ve been training with Danny for a little over 6 months now and he’s been fantastic. I’ve made real improvements in my strength and flexibility and he pushes me to do things at the gym I otherwise wouldn’t normally do. He pays a lot of attention to form and the basics of a movement and then rigorously pushes you to grow. He’s been a fantastic motivator and couldn’t be a nicer guy.

Seen more progress in weightlifting working with Danny, than I have for the past 10 years of training on my own. The man knows what he’s talking about, because he, himself has worked hard to become extremely fit. Highly recommended working with him!
