Updated: Love, love, love OTF South Loop. They've been incredible after I sprained my knee. They really care about members and I just can't get enough of the workouts. They keep me in my toes and I continue to see progress!
Orangetheory South Loop is an amazing studio that I highly recommend. The coaches are absolutely fantastic - they do an incredible job of explaining the movements and techniques, and they really push you to challenge yourself on the tread and use heavier weights when appropriate. I've found the coaches to be incredibly knowledgeable, motivating, and attentive to each member's needs.
The sales associates are great! They are friendly, helpful, and genuinely seem to care about the members and their fitness goals. They make the check in process easy and are always available to answer questions.
Different coaches, different playlists. All are energetic and keep you pumped up throughout the workout. The music really adds to the overall experience.
The best part about this studio is the sense of community. The other members are all so supportive and encouraging. There's a real team spirit, and it pushes you to work harder and achieve more than you thought possible. So happy to say I have made some great friends.
Overall, I can't say enough good things about Orangetheory South Loop. The coaches, staff, music, and community create an unbeatable workout experience. I always leave feeling energized, accomplished, and excited for my next session. This studio is a true gem and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to take their fitness to the next level.

I have been a member at this studio for many years and stay because of the incredible coaches and staff, along with the members. Coming to class is an escape from reality and a way to push myself -- orange theory has helped me train for long-distance races, including marathons, and has made me so much stronger. Highly recommend this studio and orange theory itself.

Drove 15 minutes to this studio since it was the only time I could make today. Just as I was pulling up, I got a call saying class was canceled because not enough people showed up. I explained that I pay for the unlimited monthly membership, which includes access to all studios, and this was the only class I could attend. They still decided to cancel, even though the class had been on the schedule all week. Very disappointing and unprofessional — I’d recommend avoiding this location if you want reliable, consistent class availability.

Great studio in a super convenient location—close to several hotels, which made it easy to fit in a workout while traveling. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, and the area is packed with awesome brunch and coffee spots for a perfect post-class refuel.
The only downside is that the studio itself is on the smaller side. The floor area for weightlifting can feel pretty tight, especially around stations 7–10. If you can, try to grab a different spot to make the workout more comfortable.
Overall, a solid Orangetheory experience with great energy and a prime location! (premier location $10 additional fee without the clean sweat towel 🤪)

I really do like it here but Aidan is pretty aggressive if you leave before stretching and he will call you out on the microphone. I don't love that and sometimes I just need to get to work. The other coaches are fine.

Never having a regular gym routine before, I started up with OrangeTheory more than a year ago and love it.
* Rigorous - The workouts push you. They are crafted to push you, while still building rest and working different muscle groups.
* Varied - Since each day is a new workout, you don’t get bored.
* Complete - The typical class is 2G, or 30 minutes of strength training and 30 minutes of treadmill. That builds muscles and improves my cardio endurance and VO2.
* Accessible - The coaches demonstrate all exercises, and always give variants. They are encouraging, and aren’t breathing down your neck.
* Range of times - I go at 6am, which they offer Monday - Friday
The only negative I have is that the ratio of students to teachers is high, so you aren’t going to get a ton of feedback on lifting technique. The coaches will tell you if you’re doing the exercise incorrectly or in a way that will seriously hurt you, but they don’t have the time to offer micro corrections. This typically means not pushing to the max, or getting personal trainer support outside of OT to ensure you have good technique.

I'm currently over 550 classes at Orange Theory will the majority having been attended at the South Loop location. I am a big believer in the workouts provided as there is a good balance of both lifting and cardio. The classes are always challenging, but in the end the user is ultimately the one who decides how fast or how heavy within a reasonable range. Regarding this studio in particular, I feel that the staff and coaches are all top-notch. I am always greeted with a warm welcome when I arrive. The coaches do a great job keeping the motivation high, but not being over the top about it. The members are also wonderful creating a community for those looking to stay active and achieve their fitness goals. If I could give more than five stars, I would.

If I had been allowed to join the class then maybe I could give a better rating. I arrived at 4:07 for a 4:00 o’clock class because parking is terrible in the south loop and the girl immediately says “I’m sorry, since you’re more than five minutes, I can’t let you in”. Like no grace at all. If you’re going to be that strict about it, you should definitely emphasize that up front when people sign up. I didn’t even know it was a policy at all. And I understand if the class was full (which it wasn’t) after I arrived or if I came like 20 minutes late, but there wasn’t even a “oh just so you know for next time, this the late policy, but we can let it slide”. Like no grace at all, and I’ve seen people arrive at least ten minutes late at other studios.

Very disappointed in this OTF location. I came over to try this studio last week (my home studio is at another Chi location) and went to Jarael's class. First off all, he was BLARING inappropriate/vulgar music. It was so loud that my ears hurt. Secondly and probably most importantly, he barely coached at all throughout the class. He wasn't motivating at all. The only thing he told us was when there was an AO at the end. If I wanted to work out at my own pace, I would go down the street to X-Sport. The quality of this coach was not the OTF standard that I pay $210/month for. Looks like the hiring standards have been lowered and I will not visit this location again.

One star not because the workouts or instructors weren't great. They were. I loved doing OTF. However, there was a giant miscommunication when it came to ending my membership due to financials and no effort to understand how there was blame on both sides and now I am being charged for another month for which I can barely afford.
I cancelled my membership a month before the next billing cycle because that's what I was told in the beginning of signing up to make sure if I wanted to quit that I do that at least 30 days before the next billing cycle and I was told I need to be a member for at least 2 months.
I did that and I did that during the "get one month free" promo. So I paid for one month and got another month free. By the end of the first month, I cancelled the membership so that I would not be charged for my third month of OTF and I continued going to OTF for my last month. They did not inform me that the "two month membership minimum" meant "two month billing cycles minimum". So I signed up to get the one month free thinking I'll do OTF for two months total. But they still charged me for the month of January.
When I called to tell them that I was not made aware of this rule when signing up and if something can be done about this because I can't afford it and I don't have the time to make it to classes for another month - the lady I talked to very bluntly said that there's nothing she can do because I signed the contract. When I tried explaining that it was not made clear to me when I first signed up or even when I was cancelling in person, she dismissed it quickly and basically told me it's my fault for not understanding the contract clearly.
she told me I am able to continue coming to classes but I explained that I wont even be able to due to my hectic schedule and the only offer she gave me was to freeze my account and allow me to come back in 60 days to use those 30 months of OTF that I did not want to pay for .
I am very disappointed that they did not do anything to make right the miscommunication that happened. There should have been a refund exception for this or some sort of compensation for this not being verbally communicated to me about the rule. I was misled into thinking I could only do the promo month and pay for one month.

Worst experience ever. I signed up for my first class with Orange Theory and received an email from Orangetheory Fitness South Loop after completing the paperwork that said "If you arrive 15 minutes or later than your reservation time we will have to rebook you for a different class."
I didn't want to be late so woke up super early and arrived over 20 minutes before the session. The class was at 6 AM so I literally showed up at 5:38 AM. The studio was EMPTY, nobody there at all and 2 employees. Immediately when I walked through the door "You can't take the class because you were supposed to be here before 5:30 AM, it's compulsory to show up 30 minutes in advance or you are cancelled and have to rebook a different time."
I showed the front desk the email from them that specifically says 15 minutes and they were like "well, I work here and thats not the policy." I was very confused, why would South Loop Orange Theory email me the wrong arrival time instructions and then deny me entrance. Keep in mind, studio is EMPTY and its not even 6 AM yet, there was over 20 minutes to provide me with any safety instructions and all the paperwork was already done.
I finally gave up and was like, OK I'll just drive home at 5:55 AM and do my own workout. As I was leaving, the front desk worker goes "Oh, and by the way, because you dont have a local address, this wouldn't be a free intro session, you would need to pay full cost." Like, are you kidding me? You've already told me I can't take the class, wasted an hour of my morning, and are now telling me I need to pay for a class that I can't take? This is a joke. Never again trying Orange Theory and actively telling everyone I know that this is the worst fitness class company out there.

Phoebe is the worst and most unprofessional person and is supposedly the manager. Wouldn’t recommend this franchise at all. The class schedule is all over the place so it’s hard to go unless your work from home or have a very flexible schedule. Absolutely not worth the 200$ a month. Please note you have to give 30 days notice to cancel but they DONT tell you that when signing up so highly wouldn’t recommend overall.

This was the first time I tried this fitness center and giving it high rating for a few reasons. To start - very welcoming staff (Joe was very nice). This is the place where technology is really at your service - after 1 h you get full picture of the effort while doing weights, rowing and running taking guessing out with personal explanations from the trainer (Thank you, Joe!). The price could be a bit lower ($30) but once you get the e-mail with break down you can rationalize it. Vibe is great, amenities though small but have everything you can think of (he/she deodorant, lotions, q-tips etc). One thing to mention is that you make your own pace for exercise so if not used to the class "rythm" could be less effective, but it is individual (I love high energy classes at my regular gym).

This location seems to be very disorganized and the staff has not been welcoming. I tried to attend a class over the weekend, but being a new attendee I was told to come back a different day and arrive 20 minutes early. I was told an appointment wasn’t needed and to just show up early next time. Per my instructions, I arrived a couple days later 25 minutes early. They lock their doors (which is bizarre) so I couldn’t actually enter and waited until a guest let me in. I was greeted by a rude employee who complained multiples times about how “she shouldn’t be working tonight because it was too busy.” We all have rough days at work, but she did nothing to hide her frustrations. She had no problem spending time trying to sell a package to a guest, but for a new customer like me she made no time. I assume based on her behavior she gets a commission for sales. By the time she was willing to help me, class was starting in 5 minutes and there wasn’t enough time to give me a tutorial so she asked me to come back another day. I ended up wasting 30 minutes and burned no calories. If you’re a new customer, save yourself 30 minutes and $30 and use one of the several other fitness studios in the area where you’ll actually get a workout and better service.

After being a member for a year, OTF has shown their true colors and lack of empathy through the pandemic. I haven't been in the studio for 10 months because of the global pandemic so I asked to cancel my account. They're charging my account $199 to cancel. I think I'll try Peleton for 1/3 the price.
I've been going to Orangetheory classes at the South Loop for a month now and I recently received a $14 cancelation fee because I canceled my 5am class at 10:49PM the evening before, less than 8 hours before the class begins. I utilize the unlimited session package for $199 a month, but there is also a cancelation fee if you don't cancel your class 8 hours before the class begins.
I understand the policy if the class is full or was at one point full since I reserved the class, but the $14 fee shouldn't apply if the class isn't full or wasn't once full. I worked with the South Loop staff, but they refused to refund my $14 stating the STRICT cancelation policy.
This location's inability to compromise reminds me more of a profit center than a wellness community. So, if you're looking for a place to lose weight and get back in shape or stay in shape, Orangetheory is a great place to go - the science works. If you're looking for more of a community while you're trying to achieve your fitness goals, I would look elsewhere.

I went there for a demo class. In short the work out itself was amazing!
However, I did not like the environment. I did not like the music (I can only take 10 mis of hip-hop, not an entire class with ONLY hip-hop). The music was so loud I could not hear any directions. Also, the whole things about Training Zones is just a waste of time. The entire work out I could not see my heart rate anywhere. There was a very small monitor with about 60 people's names on it and I could never see my name on it or follow my heart rate or my 'Training Zone". The rowers were amazing, however the display was useless...it did not show the pace in min/500mts or watts or heart rate or anything. What is the point of all this technology if you cannot really see your metrics during the workout??? Same for the treadmill....awesome but display was useless (no heart rate, or pace or anything, only speed and if you are a runner it would be cool to also see pace in miles/min or km/mins). And on top of all that, people farting....it was horrible. How can you really push hard and breath deep when you have music that drives you crazy and farts everywhere?
I could use this as part of my triathlon training since the workout itself was amazing, but I did not enjoy the environment and the lack of proper use of the awesome technology you try to "advertise".

I have been consistently going for almost 4 years now. I can’t say that about ANY other gym I’ve ever been a member. They have built in all the right motivation for me to go. Since they are nationwide, I even workout when I’m traveling on business. Ultimately, the results speak for themselves. I thoroughly enjoy the one hour format that gets you in and out with a mix of half cardio and half weights. No time need be spent becoming a fitness expert to create your own workouts. I love it.

Don’t give your Credit Card info to keep on file! I haven’t been here in over 3 months, but they charged my card on file for a purchase made by another client. I was away in Atlanta, GA and received an email saying “thank you for your purchase”, confused, I called them about it and notified them it was not me because I was in Atlanta. They said they would have to have their manager call me back, and I would hear from them that day. No call back. I called again, same story, still no call back. They do not respect their clients private information and this is a breach of that. My next phone call will not be to them but to my financial institution to resolve this issue. Orange Theory obviously doesn’t take this matter seriously

RACIST, a complete waste of my time as a potential worker and customer. Went through the entire hiring process and on-boarding with all smiles but refused to schedule me because of my 2 piercings and tattoos which WASN'T a problem when i was there each time. It’s sad to see this type of treatment in this day in age, I WISH I could rate them a ZERO.

Every day it's a different experience. The variety is awesome and the coaching staff is super attentive and responsive to modifying any part of the workout to make it more effective for the individual. Whether is challenging is to add speed, resistance, incline, or weight or correcting form to make sure we are getting the most out of our 50 minutes. The energy is always on max and the cooperative community environment in the studio definitely gives the added motivation that you have a team behind you as you strive to meet your personal fitness goals.

Looking for a workout that will test you mentally and physically? Orange Theory makes working out fun while educational. If it is your first time, they recommend coming 30 minutes early to fill out paperwork and go through an orientation! This is a must if you want to get the most out of your class. The treadmill, floor and water rower seem instinctual but having the coach walk you through them will allow you to focus more on the workout and your Heart Rate Zones than how the equipment works.
Emma was super helpful with getting everything set up for my friends and I and we had an awesome workout on an endurance day. Their classes mix between endurance, strength and both but they do not let you know until the class starts so you cannot skip endurance day.
I have always questioned the heart rate theory for workouts but the HR monitors take the guess work out of how hard you are working and really let you focus on trying to get in the Orange zone were you accrue the most splat points. (More splat points more benefit to cardio and fat burning)
Would highly recommend for those looking to switch up the monotony of their “usual” workout!

I like that the staff knows your name and makes you happy to be coming to workout. I like that the workouts are tough but that they are designed so that you can backoff the work to match your fitness level. Having the heart-rate monitor keeps you accountable to yourself since you can see if you're slacking off or not.

I’m two classes in and everything about this studio has exceeded my expectations. The staff is friendly, the customers are friendly and the workouts have been amazing. It can be intimidating starting a new workout routine when you’re out of shape but I have not had a single moment of self doubt in this studio. I really appreciate the one on one attention from the trainers and the accountability of pushing myself with others in the class.

I really cannot express in words how much OTF has impacted my life, not only physically, but most importantly, mentally. Every morning when I wake up, I cannot wait to get to my OTF workout. I crave it. It has been the best thing that has happened to me. I have been doing OTF for over a year and not ONCE have I left a workout regretting that I went. I love that every work out is unique. It pushes me farther than I would if I were to be by myself. It is amazing what I can achieve when I am inspired by the coaches and the other members around me. I can feel that everyone around me wants me to succeed and do my best. Growing up as a three sport athlete, even through college, I was always in competition with those next to me on the treads or the weights. Coming to OTF I don't feel that pressure or negative energy from others. OTF has something special. I believe that every person that gets to experience an OTF workout feels it too. I am completely honored to be a part of this program. I love that I can do a work out in Chicago, my mother can do a work out in Fargo, my sister-in-law can do a workout in Minneapolis, AND after our workouts we can share our results! Then we get to talk about how tough the floor block was today. OR wow, that endurance workout on the treads really kicked my butt. I love it. Let's also mention the ability of OTF to be able to accommodate all people. LITERALLY, everyone can do an OTF workout. I love the ability to be challenged on an exercise and the ability to have an option if I cannot perform the task at hand with correct form. OTF targets all shapes, sizes, and ages. Guess what?! We are all working just as hard. Being someone who has had open heart surgery and a little more concerned about heart rate when working out, I feel safe being able to push myself, knowing I am being monitored. I could go on for a long time explaining how incredible OTF is. Let me say it simply. Go to a workout and you will get to experience it. Every person I have brought to an OTF workout, ends up signing up for a membership. Going to a workout speaks for itself. Thank you OTF for helping me become the best version of myself.

Absolutely phenomenal gym! The coaches are awesome, all super friendly and very motivating. The front desk staff is equally great, always more than helpful and willing to answer any questions. The equipment, lockers, showers, and bathrooms are always in clean working condition.
As for the results, I couldn’t be more happy. I’ve been a member for 5 months now and I’m more than pleased with how things are going. The workouts will push you but never too hard. There are always options to ease back if you don’t feel comfortable enough yet with lifts.
Long story short, I absolutely encourage everyone to give Orangetheory a try, but ESPECIALLY their South Loop location!

I typically go to OTF at another location near my work but have gone to the South Loop location a few times as it's near my home. I absolutely love the large space and and have been super happy with the instructors. I recently had Deise who was one of my favorites ever....I plan to come back just to have her!

Great workouts here with young, but experienced and motivated staff, using heart rate monitor to push your limits on the rower, floor exercises and treadmill. They have basic but thoughtful amenities, plenty of sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer, small towels and bathroom & shower facilities. The staff really makes the difference here and they are all friendly and helpful.

I like that it's only an hour long workout but the hardest workout as well. I'd never do the things I do in OTF on my own and with a trainer, I know I'm pushing myself! The South Loop location has had a lot of fun events and seems to be a nice community of diverse people. My favorite coach is Jess by far. She has the best coaching and music and I feel like she actually cares that everyone is getting a good workout in. She never misses a beat. The rest of the coaches are alright too but I usually schedule my classes around her sessions. Keep it up Jess and OTF South Loop!

It's a combination of strength training and cardio workout and it's different every time. I like the fact that it's a set workout (I don't have to think about what exercise to do and how many repetitions) and yet it's malleable to your level and needs. The fact that it's a class with an instructor helps keep me motivated.
