Edit: The place is a lot better after reopening compared to the previous owner. The new management cleans a lot regularly.

But despite the change in management the location is the biggest issue. Many of the patrons at this location are the biggest degenerates and often don't show basic courtesy, would not re-rack the weight, leave paper napkin all over the place, steal your weights literally while you're using machine. And on top of that every week cars in the parking lot a broken into and seeing shattered glass is a common occurrence.

Recently rejoined under the new management - the preCOVID team was a joke and ran this budget gym into the ground. I like the new manager - the Hispanic guy.

Folks complaining about cleanliness need to talk to their gym partner - y’all NEVER clean after yourselves. I clean the machine before and after and the number of people I watch just jump up full of sweat is appalling. Nobody wants to wipe your sweat off! Cleaner is always stocked and paper towels replenished.

I don’t enter public restrooms, period - so can’t comment on the Locker rooms. But every time I’m there someone is dusting or wiping down the machines or mopping.

Anyways - it’s a decent priced gym with good working machines and weights.

My first time here since they've reopened . Trash all over the place, gym etiquette is nonexistent. Trash and tumbleweave strewn about the floor. Women's locker room is trashy. Water all over the counter, paper towels all on the floor. Locker room is much cooler than the gym floor. Only plus is the glute machine.

The new management is better. I wish they would ban recording. It’s very unsafe and weird that you could be posted on the internet in a compromising position and not know it. Also would be very easy for someone to find the planet fitness location and find someone that’s just in the background. “Content creation” is for private gyms. Not public. One star is too generous. This Planet Fitness location is an absolute joke and a danger to the public. On 07/09/2025, My friend was ROBBED at gun point in broad daylight right in the parking lot and you’d think management would care? Nope. No cameras outside the lot. No security. No urgency. No empathy just idgaf vibes. People’s cars get stolen, windows get smashed, and there are ZERO precautions in place. If you’re trying to get fit and leave without your belongings or your CAR this is the place for you.

Oh, and the inside? Don’t even get me started. The bathrooms smell like something crawled in and died, the machines are constantly broken, and the staff is either MIA or just don’t give a damn.Management is beyond lazy and unprofessional. They brush off every serious issue like it’s a minor inconvenience. You’re better off working out in your living room or at literally any other gym.

Don’t waste your money. Don’t risk your safety. Planet Fitness needs to do better because right now, this place is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Be careful of this planet fitness location especially if you drive a very nice and good car. There’s always the issue of Smash and Grab in their parking lot. And the management won’t even make any attempt about it or show concern about the victim or victim’s property.Two of my Truck windows were smashed at the same time,(front & rear driver side) I think the driver window gave them a little hardship, it was extremely cracked, but they got the rear window fully broken and my wallet, money and other valuable items were stolen from the Car while I was in the gym room. It happened to 3 or 4 more cars at the same time and I overheard from the staff that it has happened several times to customer’s vehicle. And the management won’t even do anything about it. YOUR CAR IS NOT SAFE in Planet Fitness 1301 E47th Street Chicago Illinois.

There has been a disturbing pattern of smashed windows and stolen property in the parking lot, and unfortunately, the situation appears to be going unaddressed by local management.

As a member, I was initially excited to see this location reopen after its abrupt closure. Its proximity to my home made it an ideal and convenient option. However, the growing number of break-ins and the lack of any visible action to increase safety or provide solutions is deeply troubling.

I’ve observed little to no concern from the location’s management in response to this issue—no added security presence, no improved lighting, no communication to members, and no visible preventative measures. This silence and inaction suggest a troubling disregard for member safety and property.

Until this issue is taken seriously and tangible action is taken, I am seriously reconsidering my membership and will not recommend this location to others.

Stand up tanning bed was out of service. I used the lay down bed instead. there was a light bulb out. The door pops open during the session, you have to hold it down consistently to keep it closed (12min). Told multiple staff members about this issue. The lay down bed has been that way for at least a year. I used it again recently first because I was there to tan and I had no other options there and to see if new management fixed it and nothing had changed.

Like dang first at the store a lady was working there & acted like she couldn’t be bothered to show me where something was and now at the front desk at PF on 47th… dude couldn’t be bothered to help me figure out how to transfer my out of town account to this new location…so then I asked could he just cancel it so I could start a new one here… he said he couldn’t do that either and so I asked well how can I close my account so I can become a member at this location?! He told me to write a letter to PF… I was like seriously?! So I just left surely there is a better way to cancel or transfer my account in the year 2025 than sending a letter… A simple google search (which I did when I got in my car) would’ve told him that all I had to do was log into the website (not the app) and I could transfer my account… Then he could’ve talked me through it, but nope he didn’t even try to help… Needless to say I used the website to CANCEL my out of town account and I’ll be taking my business to someone else’s gym…

This location closed abruptly without any notification to members. I had been a Blackcard member for well over 15 years, with my membership originally starting in Louisiana. Because of work, I moved membership to this location. When they closed without notification, they just canceled my membership as if my Blackcard membership would not be accepted at other locations. I contacted PF, which was of no help. Then I finally decided to call the location upon discovering it was back open under new ownership. Was told to come in person and speak with the manager, which I did but she was unable to start my membership at the rate I previously paying. I would like to speak to the owner so this can be fixed. Absolutely no reason that my entire membership should have been canceled just because one location closed.

I will start off by saying that the staff is ALWAYS friendly at the Hyde Park location. I have two issues. The first issue is the lack of cleanliness of this location compared to the 3 other locations I go to in the city.

The gym is much cleaner now, and I see staff cleaning regularly. I will now change from 3 stars to 4.

The Bluetooth speaker box is still an issue. Trainers come in with clients and bring speaker boxes. Just imagine if every person played their own speaker boxes. What a nightmare. This should be banned. I am going to stop going now because of this issue.

The second issue I have is their lax in enforcement of the Bluetooth speaker box policy. So many people just play their Music out loud for everyone to hear. I got into it with an older gentleman today about this, and he stated that he’s minding his own business (with his Music blaring ) and told me that I should just put on my headphones and Mind my own business.

PLEASE ENFORCE THE POLICY!!! I am not the only one that complains about it, I’m one of the only ones who will confront others on it. The staff does not enforce the policy and it’s disrespectful. (And super annoying). Thank you !

This is the cheapest option for Gym if anyone staying nearby. it is big and sufficient machines for work out. But personal trainer facility is not available. The classic membership is available for just 15 USD a month which is too much lucrative. Times are flexible and no restriction on usage. I don't fin excuse for not joining here. The guide of each equipment is available online in the App and you can plan your work out based on beginner intermediate or advance. I recommend for all to join.

This location is permanently closed and it has not been updated online. The recent reviews about this location are false and misleading. I moved to the area right before they closed, which sucks because it was convenient despite the appearance. There were a lot of broken machines, misplaced equipment, and it was just overall not as clean as it should have been. That could explain what led to their recent closing, but do not be fooled. I Love this Gym #1. The music is way better than other gyms and that’s important to me.

#2 I never found a elliptical that was comfortable to work out on and this gym have the very best ones.

#3 The price of membership is something I can handle..

#4 The 30min workout system works. you do not have to guess what to do.

#5. Free personal trainer that comes in and help you through your road to better health you must sign up.

#6 The hydro massage bed and chairs.

You have to bring your own towels though. This club set up here I like they don’t have those TVs everywhere across the room. It’s clean and those that come here help keep it clean.

The location on East 47th Street has closed due to non payment of rent. I was charged an annual fee while the owners KNEW they were not paying rent and would be evicted! They have actually been in court for a couple of years.

It’s almost impossible to actually talk with anyone. All information will direct one to go into an actual location and it is now closed. I will NEVER use PF again!!

Update- I see I need to change gyms.. first of all do some repairs.. ya'll got stuff falling off walls, machines that don't fully work like these exercise bikes.. seats broke, old equipment.. that butterfly machine doesn't close all the way so can't use that..

This is by far the dirtiest plant fitness I have ever been to. They did get rid of the urine smell they had last year but the equipment and floors are often filthy. Wall paper is falling off the walls, paint chipping all on the floor, broken equipment. All three stairmasters have been needing repair for at least a month. This place needs some help. The gym on 47th is a very nasty place I walked in and walked right back out. I didn't even feel comfortable putting my gym bag and it's plastic inside the locker. There's dirt buildup on the locker opening where you will put your lock at the bathrooms. Had tissue paper all over the toilet. The machines look like they have never been moved and having a tremendous amount of dust on them when I walked over to say you know. Just try to give it a chance. The machines looks filthy the walls. Disgusting. Even before you walk into the actual planet fitness part, there are leaves and spider webs and all kind of debris as you coming to the entrance. But I said maybe this part of the facility is not planet fitness is concerned but when I got into planet fitness it was pretty much the same. I don't know who the actual owner is of this particular site, but I've read the reviews. There are responses from whomever is in charge of responding to the reviews and some say please direct your comment to a different site, but at this point out of receiving all of these bad reviews, that should be enough for someone to come in and do some kind of major overhaul in this facility. I am absolutely sure being a businesswoman myself that you are losing a tremendous amount of business because you are in a prime location and I'm sure you are very convenient for a lot of us, but due to the physical appearance of this place, I will never come back to this location. I hope that all the criticisms are heard and taken care of. I pray that this place does better

It's steamy hot in the summer and cold in the winter. There's always several machines out of service. The staff are typically very nice and cool. Before signing up to this club I’d read some discouraging reviews here. I decided to judge for myself. I’ve been a member for 2 months and counting now and I look forward to going to this club. Staff are friendly and helpful when you need them especially Alyssa (hope I got her name right). And I find other members here to be rather pleasant and not intimidating. Good number of equipment. This location is terrible. More than half the equipment is either not working, rusted or missing. The cleanliness is not there at all. Dusty equipment. Paper towels, water bottles left all over. The only area that was up to standards was the front entrance/check in. Someone tripped over weight plate left on floor. Employees were locked to desk no one going around cleaning, ensuring safety. I have been a member here for a few years and I will say as with many businesses, I have seen some ups and downs. I have noticed a major uptick in the general state of the gym lately with maintenance especially and new staff which is nice to see.
Hard to beat this location for me as it is convenient and plenty of free parking. Even though I travel and use many Planet gyms, I always come back to my home club. Keep it up.

Doesn't open early on the weekends. Parking is horrible. Extra $19 if you're not out of the garage in less than an hour. The garage is huge. Takes lots of time finding a space, elevator to outside and the long walk or jog to Planet fitness. Shower room is cold. Late staff is lame. All morning staff is excellent and the 9-5 manager. I’m definitely canceling my membership. I came tonight with my son. I’ve been bringing him since last year. These two young guys, I’m sure teens themselves told me my son he could not workout there. I told them he’s been coming with me since last year when he turned 15. Honestly I felt like those boys were hating on my son. Maybe because he didn’t speak to them but we’ve NEVER had a problem. Locker room 2/5 the floor was went when coming In as if it was just mopped ( not sure) kinda made it seem dirty to me but other than that it's okay.

Cardio area 4/5 alot of cardio equipped from stairs to ellipticals to rowers. I give it a 4 because it looked like they haven't been cleaned by staff. On some of the equipment I saw dust.

Strength area 5/5 I personally didn't come here for the Strength area. Mostly to use as a cardio location closer to my apartment. For what it is, it's fine.

Spa area 2/5 the 2 of the 3 massage beds are out of order and when asked about using the bed was asked am I sure cause at the time there was a " weird guy " sitting next to it

The equipment at this location is disgusting! There’s years of dirt caked up on the machines. Some of them are so rusty you can’t even adjust the weight or seat. The floor feels like you just walked into a dirty movie theater, sticky and gross. The few times I’ve been here I’ve never seen anyone cleaning. I was a member of the Cicero location for 5 years and it was spotless. I moved into this area and this unfortunately is my local PF. I even sent a message to the club and got no response. It was a good run but I will not be keeping this membership.

Have been going to this gym since about a year. They recently hired a new staff member, Paul, who has been a breath of fresh air for this gym. He cleans the floors every day (!), goes around and re-racks the weights, collects the loose trash people leave around, and informs people about the gym rules. I have also seen some other new faces among the staff and have noticed that the restrooms and changing room are being kept cleaner. I hope to continue seeing some more positive changes at this gym. Kudos to whoever hired Paul. He is definitely setting a new standard for the staff at this location.

There are way too many machines that need maintenance. Either they dont connect to actually use the machine or they are not resetting these machines. A whole row of incumbent bikes DO NOT WORK because of the seat that doesnt stay locked, the machine is frozen, or the machine in not connected to use. The pathways are clear to walk from machine to machine but the machines are not clean . We are asked to wipe down the machines after every use but THEY dont clean the machine ill provide photos and Video. Even the kettle bells are broken . There has been a 10lb kettle bell with a broken handle that they keep on the racks for others to use knowing its a hazard. The massage beds were not working either. I went yesterday 1/7/2024 Ill be contacting the manager Kiara Owens to see what she is willing to do for members at her location

So I just spoke with the manager she states the machines are broken due to the members (its a 24 hour location) but no one checks to make sure these machines work, there are assistant managers there i spoke one her before i spoke to the manager (isnt that a part of their duties). She states Corporate is the problem because they dont support her location. Why is that?
she stated she knew nothing about the damages weights when just looking at the 10lb kettle bell with a cracked in two handle. She is not maintaining this location. She needs retraining. She stated she would speak to the staff about the cleanliness tomorrow. I will keep posting on this location this week with photos and videos.

1.9.2024 So far they removed the broken kettle bell and I checked the incumbent bikes and still no resolve. the people who were on them used the bike with out them being operational and there are no out of order signs put up on those bikes . only the Hip abductor has a temporarily out of order sign when there is waaay more not fully operational. These machines stay broken and unattended so much that people dont even complain to the staff they go straight to the internet with proof. The manager has been made aware several times of this locations issues and it seems only when we damn near embarrass the location before adjustments are made. We should NOT have to do that with all the staff that was just standing around together in the front. I will keep updating this week .

The gym is on the small side but considering the location and floor space they have a very good variety of equipment. The staff is friendly and the locker rooms were very clean but the showers and gym could have been cleaner. It’s also really really hot in the gym floor but the locker rooms are a good relief. I appreciate the members, everyone minds their business and cleans up their equipment after use. Nobody is playing music over speakers or sitting on a machine texting on their phone. Solid spot filled with ppl working out and moving on about their day.

An ok gym overall especially since it's cheap.

The main thing to improve is to have staff actually doing things, like cleaning and enforcing the rules more. There are many people breaking the rules, e.g blaring loud music from their own speakers, leaving weights/trash all over the place and talking on cell phones while they sit on a machine for 10 mins.

These people should be given warnings and if they continually break the rules by disrespecting others and leaving the place untidy they should have their membership cancelled. However all staff seem to be doing is sitting around the entrance on their phones chatting (as many other reviewers have pointed out - seems like a real issue, hint hint management)

I have noticed whenever there is staff from the lgtbq community at this location they are standoffish towards me, for example today I asked the man with the black Durag for a lock and keychain accessory. He stated, “we don’t do this for you”. This is a rude poor customer service answer. Only the lgtbq have these responses at these locations. I have no problem with this but it’s like they are having an agenda when mine is just to enjoy my workout.

If i could give this place a 0 stars i would. It’s convenient for me because i live in the area but I’d rather jog around parkway at 3 o’clock in the morning with 5 million dollars hanging out my pocket before i step foot into this gym again. I’m a gym goer so i don’t mind planet fitness at all but this one is disgusting. It’s dirty as hell. Equipment is all over the place and no one wipes it down or puts anything up. The mirrors literally are filled with finger prints and the bathrooms/locker rooms smell like sewage. The only good thing is the manager Devon. Great energy and always working. But this place needs a huge transformation. I’ll definitely be cancelling my membership and driving downtown to XSport instead. Get it together.

This gym is in a great neighborhood who can benefit from this gym, however the parking lot is always DARK. how can you be 24 hrs and don't make it safe for your members to walk in. Please put light in the parking lot. Get better staff who don't sit around on their cell phone or face time. last but not least get better equipment. Terrible customer service, Deshaun was not informative, that was my first time there.. I didn't know how to use the machines, calculator my progress, no tutoring so I did the best I could.. Will never promote 47th Lake Park Planet Fitness.. Came home and changed everything.. I rather go to another race Planet Fitness... 47th Lake Park Planet Fitness sucks.. I like this planet fitness but I don’t love it. For the simple fact that they refuse to update their equipment like the other locations in the Chicago land area. Most people would think that the Hyde Park location would outshine other areas, but it does not. This location has only 3 stair masters, and there is only 1-2 working most of the time. I love to get a cardio workout in after a lift, and there’s almost never a stairmaster available. This situation grew so frustrating to me, I called management. In result, the manager told me they simply weren’t going to replace broken down stairmasters, they were going to keep “repairing” them over and over again. This is simply unacceptable. The only reason I continued to go to this location is because it’s close to my job. Unfortunately I had to leave planet fitness all together for a nearby LA fitness.

I just recently moved to Chicago and was very excited that I could walk to this particular gym. Plus there is a large parking lot for parking. It is next to a sports complex so on the weekends parking can be hard. Walking into the gym was not pleasant. On 5/23/23 I walked into the gym to find two of the associates seated in the hand chairs playing on their cellphones so I had to self check in. Most PF gyms staff checks you in and greet you with a smile. Not here the equipment is in good condition and the gym was not that crowded which made me have a smooth workout. Sadly the gym was filthy and not one associate seemed concerned enough to clean. The floor was very sticky and trash was all over the place. Around 08:30 a tall light skin associate arrived and did an assessment of the place. When I was leaving around 09:15 the two associates were still on their cell phones one in the hand chairs and the other in the black card lounge area. The tall lady had a bucket and some spray bottles so I’m assuming she was going to try and clean up the gym. I would really like to use this gym but not with it looking like this.I gave 3 stars only because the gym is never crowded and the machines are always available

Been going here for about a year. Staff is friendly, mostly the machines work (except the row machines which drastically need to be replaced as they rarely work). They also offer locks to borrow so your stuff is secure if you don't have one (or don't want to buy one); you simply have to give them your license to make sure they give them back.

Gym itself has a ton of cardio in ratio to other equipment. The non-cardio section will be busy almost guaranteed regardless of the time of day. The massaging (hydro and normal) work well and are great.

Seems clean and sanitary too. Never had a problem with staff or other patrons.

Note: there is a basketball complex attached so be aware when there are games/tournaments going on as the parking lot will get filled. However there is a large free parking lot so as long as there isn't a tournament happening there's never an issue with parking.

I opened a gym membership with them with my cash app card and bank account. They started charging my debit card because my cash app wasn’t going through. I called to get the situation sorted out and some lady with no type of manners whatsoever called herself the manager. She was so disrespectful during the entire conversation not even trying to be helpful and when I explained to her I’ll like to cancel my membership she just went off and said she’ll cancel my membership. She hung up before I could say anything else, I called back to ask for her name so I could come in person to see what that mouth do frl. She chickened out and couldn’t tell me😂😂😂😂. Well well miss manager I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and hopefully you find some peace in your life.

The equipment and interior of the gym is old. They clean it, but it's the cumulative dirt and germs that is visibly collecting in hard to reach places that tell the story. The floors get cleaned often, but are still sticky feeling when you walk on them. The treadmills need to be replaced with new equipment. They are sticky germ factories and the on-screen systems barely work. There is always an issue with signing on to equipment using your membership number, if you want to track your workouts. It's really a pain especially when you want to get in and out of the gym on a time schedule. You have to try three or four different treadmills before finding one that will allow a successful log in. The staff is pretty friendly. But, when asked for help with the failing machines, several of the staff members have been less than customer focused. As a paying customer it's frustrating. This location is privately owned by someone who is out of state. This owner is not managing the business well at all. It's pretty obvious the owner does not view this location as a priority. The only reason I continue to suffer through is it's conveniently located with good parking.

Today will be my last day going to this gym if they do not have the staff to wipe these machines down. Out of all the planet fitnesses this one is dirty lately. I just resumed exercising today, though I have maintained a membership for years. I asked for help from the desk person, and after giving me a new tag, had a dismissive attitude. I ASKED FOR HELP. New machines, old types. No tour (planet Fitness "are all the same.") My tag didn't work. "Just keep trying machines until you find one that works." I was imconveniencing HER at 7:40 AM when 8 people were in the club. "No judgment, huh?"

Stop with the condescending responses, the machines are always and consistently nasty and dirty and you respond to every review saying that you strive for cleanliness of the facility. NO YOU DON'T!!! If you did there wouldn't be so many dammmm reviews on how nasty this place is. Your customers shouldn't have to approach staff to refill bottles and paper towels or tell them to clean the dammm equipment!! This is a disgusting. Don't no of you all need to be employed here because if not one manager, supervisor, owner can manage your employees correctly then you all need different jobs. Gross location. The workers will literally watch you pull at an empty paper towel station and do nothing. They’re not there to work. You shouldn’t have to tell them to refill the paper towels. All the machines are dirty and so are the floors.
