Horrible experience canceling , gym was okay , not kept up ,Property is not well kept bathrooms are always out of service machines are always down , I went for a good 2 months then the experience became bad . Now they don’t want to let me cancel it . Insane the way they talk to you and the way they’ve trapped many others into a membership . I’d stay away from this gym .

Just wanted to share this is how you will be talked to by staff this is a sign they leave in they bathrooms, while yes I agree adults should clean up after themselves so shame on those that don’t but I don’t think that should be a reason to be hostile? The owner is usually chill but I think for the amount he’s charging it could go towards improvements on maintenance around the place and not just the spray painted walls. Overall, I just go there cause it’s chill and everyone keeps to themselves and you can meet cool people there. Repairs can be done though.

The place is nasty, a walking infection! The sauna is a closet where only two people can fit at a time. Both the showers and the restrooms are filthy at all times with people leaving behind bottles of soap, deodorant and shampoo. The last straw for me was getting ready to use the shower today after working out and almost stepping in a puddle of urine. People are peeing in the shower! The Health Department needs to be called before someone gets sick!! I'd recommend going to LA Fitness before this cess pool!

If I could rate this gym NO STARS I would. Management Team is HORRIBLE and makes it extremely hard for you to cancel your gym membership. Been a member for over two years and just cancelled. Ryse can be a great place to workout if you go late in the evening or early in the morning. Management has fulfilled some of what they promised over the last two and a half years when I signed up. Renovations are slowly but surely happening and the gym is expanding.
I was told when I first signed up I was ‘locked in’ to a $29.99 membership for lifetime and would not be affected by price increases. At the end of January 2024 my membership and my wife’s membership increased to $39.99. Although I have a membership at Ryse I workout at another gym and have kept my membership at Ryse so I have another option. I asked my wife to check why the prices increased for us the next time she was at Ryse.
Im giving Ryse a 1 star review for the way the owner, Justin, responded to my wife when she asked about the price increase. He told her ‘she did not need an explanation’ for the price increase and should have checked her email. The emails about price increase? I haven’t received an email from Ryse since 10/18/2022 and neither has my wife. Why belittle your customer when they simply ask you a question? Between both of our memberships, I have paid Ryse over $2000 in the last two and half years (monthly membership/yearly fees) and have had no real questions or complaints for the staff. How is it that when one of your members has a question about a price increase, no matter how many emails went out, you can’t take two minutes to give a professional response? Based off other reviews this isn’t isolated.

This gym is so cheap that they will send you to collections for late charge payment that was resolved months ago.

See attached email threads.

Beware of the contract to sign up. They will send you to ABC fitness collection agents for any missed payments.
They will force you to annually renew if you do not have any proof of address change.
Then it seems like they still need more money after cancellation.

Why does this gym need more money? For more cartoons on the walls?

This gym should invest more into its equipment than wall art like some toy store.
Most of the equipment is always being serviced
No cleaning materials for benches causing high risk for bacteria spread.

I have cancelled my membership since April and still being harassed for 19$

Please advise immediately as this case is being investigated by my bank as well.

I currently go to this gym and it’s a decent gym and I like that it’s open 24/7 as someone who is busy but still wants to make time for the gym. However, I do have one complaint and I hope that it can be resolved soon!! Every time I enter the gym it smells like piss like I actually want to throw up. I could not imagine being someone who wants a tour of the gym and their first impression is the front lobby/hall smelling like piss 😭 I think this gym could benefit from professional cleaners and not just the receptionist. Like these bathrooms need to be deep cleaned with some good cleaning stuff. I usually don’t leave reviews but I go to that gym everyday since I’ve signed up and I cannot stand the smell anymore and will probably go elsewhere once my membership is done . Like if this was a once in a blue moon thing ik be like okay they just need to clean it today but no this is everyday and I’ve been there in the mornings and afternoons and the smell doesn’t improve. Please Ryse do something :)) oh also the water fountain that has the water filter for the water bottles I forgot to take a picture to add to this review but the slimy gunk on it is absolutely disgusting I went to fill up my water bottle and just ended up leaving I was so grossed out

As a business owner. having Unprofessional staff it’s very difficult for a business to grow. Especially them being at the front desk. You would assume that they have much better respect and communication skills. It is More likely for clients not to come back. Due to lack of employees treating their guests poorly. Will likely not sign up with this gym. Plus I heard they have fees for not racking the weights back. I normally put my weights back. But that’s just outrageous. Never heard that fee before. But oh well moving on.

So me and my dad went and got a day pass (we are from Colorado here for my brother's navy graduation) and we really enjoyed this gym it had alot of niche equipment that I loved to use and the lighting was amazing and i loved the little powerlifting area we went 2 days of our trip and I would get a membership if I lived there. However my only issue is those bathrooms I had to hold it so many times because there was only 1 toilet open for us to use. Other then that staff was amazing carying the phones in thier pockets to always awnser calls. And giving us a tour around the establishment. I loved it here just fix those restrooms

by far this is the best gym i've been in and it has been giving exactly what it needs to. good vibes, solid equipment, they're expanding so that's a plus, they got healthy meals and energy drinks on deck, and the music gets you locked in. i have my personal trainer with me and im seeing results. everyone's chill and respectful, which makes a huge difference. the owner's also super fair and easy to talk to, which you don't always get. if you're serious about your goals, this is the spot for sureeeeeee.

Been working out at ryse for about a year now and I honestly have no complaints. Gym gets cleaned everyday. And so many machines that many other gyms do not offer. Very nice staff especially the 2 girls that work front desk. They have exceptional customer service and take good care of the members that come in. The gym is spectacular the only bad thing about it are the female workers, they treat female gym members so rude. When I first signed up the short brown girl with long hair didn’t bother to put my info right and I had to call some other day to get it fixed, and not too long ago a different girl gave me attitude when I tried to update my payment method. And I have noticed that they treat guys better than girls.

02/2025 edit: I’ve enjoyed the changes that have been made by staff and in the gym overall. I’ve added another star to my review as the concerns in the original review were generally addressed in the months after the review was posted. The effort is appreciated and noted!

Gym is average but very unclean and kind of in disarray on the inside. Currently under construction with no prognosis of completion for the foreseeable few months (understandable). $40 membership but bathrooms (at least the women’s) are always messy, bins always full, and unclean with hygienic items or toilet paper in the toilets. The posing room is always in disarray; my partner and I have to manually arrange it ourselves by arranging the equipment back into the corner, but you will always find some clutter (mysterious yellow water bottle, shirt thrown off to the side by an unknown assailant, etc.). People mind their business and don’t bother you while you workout. Women’s area is a plus and expanding! The place always seems to have some kind of… scent lingering when the back door is not open.

Love this gym it’s smaller and close to home my only complaint is them blasting music , I shouldn’t be able to hear your music over my own . Even on full blast with noise cancelling headphones I can hear their music . Being able to listen to music while working out is so important and it ruins the vibe I see other people complaining on the other reviews . Wish they would take feed back . I don't typically write reviews, but I could not hold myself back from writing this one. Let me start by saying Gurnee doesn't have a lot of gyms in the area so I was extremely excited to try this one. From their website, to their social media and pictures other people shared this place seemed perfect for someone who loves the gym. When I went in, I was given a short tour of all of the equipment and was explained how it is currently under construction due to them expanding the gym, I did not think anything negative about it at that point and gave it the benefit of the doubt. I signed a 1 year commitment, and after my first time going in... I instantly regretted it. I started my workout in the women's area upstairs and it was disgusting. The floors look like they have never been cleaned, it is dusty which triggers my allergies, the equipment is rusted and broken, and the garbage cans were over flowing with paper towels (probably from people trying to clean the dirty equipment). I broke out in rashes and I left the gym feeling dirty/ itchy. Since September, when I opened the account I probably have gone in 2-3 times trying to give it a chance. But, every time I am there the same thing happens itchy skin, bumps on my skin and a horrible workout and unsafe equipment. Unfortunately, due to the year contract I am not allowed to cancel the membership, but I no longer am I going there. So, if you're looking to sign up please be more observant before you commit and be aware of the uncleanliness of this place.

Ryse has change my life completely I love going into a gym that has all the equipment I need to get a good workout. Employees are so nice and very professional and polite and they keep the gym very clean. And the owner Justin Maki is world class very awesome guy and a motivation to everyone that has dreams and goals in life and with hard work everything can be achieved. Love the gym, they’re expanding yet, only 6 months into the membership I’ve had to leave because the gym is dirty, they want to put rude signs in the gym threatening people, charging re racks fees. Employees like naomi that try to fight you in the bathroom or being their mom to try and push you while your working out. Yet when I try to talk to Justin MAKI and email him before the situation gets worse or I need to call the police. He says he believes his employees. Even though when I ask where I can put a complaint they don’t tell me where I can and they lie about their names. Justin still didn’t care to ask me or look at cameras on what happened and how aggressive his employee is, following me to the bathroom and saying to come in at 11pm to fight her.

If I could review with 0 stars I would. I've been a member for a while now, before the price change of the membership, which is why im incredibly disappointed with my experience with them. I'm a college student, when I called to cancel my membership I was convinced to just put my membership on hold in case I came back during summer break. What was ridiculous to me was that I had to prove that I was a college student and send proof of my enrollment.I agreed to it either way, no problem. I called when I came home to visit to verify my membership was on hold, but to my surprise they tell me that I no longer had a gym membership and that I'm in collections. I never received any phone calls from them, any notifications, I never authorized to unfreeze my account. I still have the original emails. Why not just cancel my membership instead of sending me to collections over a gym membership? Ridiculous. You no longer are able to check your account on their website to just view or maybe change your payment method, super shady. I had previous friends who cancelled their memberships and had to "prove" that they were moving or asked what other gym they're signing up to. They make it impossible to cancel your membership. It's such a shame because I did love this gym, the culture, and the fact it was open 24 hours. I would advise people to sign up somewhere else.

Very bad gym. The employees are very rude and grumpy looking. The gym is not complete, I have not been able to do my activity I like to do which is box for 6 month. Have been here since November 23. 10 months and every time I come it is not up to par with the $40 they charge me every month. Also the little charges for changing card. Very bad don’t recommend gym. Gym is pretty good, most of the equipment works well and it's usually not too crowded. Being open 24/7 is a nice feature too. What brings it down for me is that for one the music is WAY way too loud, it's like a club, I can barely hear my own music through my headphones. I go here because it’s convenient to where I live. But they have much to improve. A lot of the machines are broken pretty often. And there’s not enough treadmills, stair masters, etc. maybe replace the broken machines with space for cardio… & they really need a professional cleaning service. It is DUSTY in there and the staff cleaning is not enough. The whole influencer thing isn’t the gyms fault necessarily but there should definitely be a rule against tripods. Overall again it gets the job done but if I had another choice closer to me that accepted my insurance plan I’d go there.

Gym is of decent size and they are expanding. Decent equipment, however you can’t walk 5 feet without tripping over someone else tripods. Everyone wants to be an “influencer” and sits on machines for 30+ minutes trying to post the “next big” thing.

Also the expansion includes a barbershop, while everyone still waits for a sauna to be built. I thought this was an athletic club not a mall.

Pros: Good local gym with a lot of variety in equipment. Reasonably priced you want to lift weights or do cardio machines. Flexible hours make it another positive aspect. The people are nice, I've never had to deal with a confrontational person.

Cons: The size of the clientele out numbers the amount of equipment available. It's not uncommon for machines/equipment to break, especially considering the size of the client foot print. It can be difficult to cancel your membership during the first year, as they lock you into a guaranteed commitment.

What a great gym! Watched these guys gradually improve things as time went on. Very clean gym, great front desk staff. Ultimately while going here I got better, some stronger guys here. The loud music lifts you up on days where you are not feeling it. They also sell meals.

Main recommendations.. would love to see the custom meals come back. Was one of my favorite components to the gym and what originally brought me in.
