I love this place. It's a great community and gym. Lauren and Steve are great coaches and great people to have in your life. You want to "shift" your life? This is a good place to start. Oh also they do kettlebells here. Also I have heard Ron Costco works out here.

Best Kettle Bell focused training in the city. Can't say enough good things about Shift. Love the training program and have seen significant gains. The other thing I love about the new location is how close it is to Begyle and Dovetail brewing. This truly is the gift that keeps on giving

Lauren Zallis’ coaching style is one that shows her members just how knowledgeable she is about all facets of improving one’s physical fitness (strength, endurance, mobility, flexibility). Coach Zallis has an easy-going approach, but pushes her members when they need it. The workouts Coach Zallis designs are varied and hit all points of physical fitness. I’ve worked out with Coach Zallis for nearly five years, and because of her knowledge about training, approachability, and workouts, I can’t imagine working out at any other place than with Coach Zallis at SHIFT.

Great gym to learn kettlebells. LZ (Lauren) is a thorough coach who offers modifications of exercises so persons of varying abilities can work out together. Even in group classes she provides attention to detail that can make you feel like you’re in a one-on-on training session. She’s also genuinely friendly and interested in your well-being.

I wish I could give SHIFT 10+ stars. I have worked out FOR YEARS at the large fitness clubs in the city and was always so bored and just uninspired with the choices & style of the classes, lack of camaraderie . I thank my lucky stars I met Lauren just a few years ago, and after the first class with her, I was instantly hooked, not only is her technical knowledge best in class, but her genuine passion for helping people with their health & fitness is the gift that keeps on giving, every class, every week. We work our tails off, the workouts are truly unique and it's challenging but every single time I walk out, I feel stronger, healthier and so energized. Swinging bells, it's the best drug in the world! On top of all that, her optimistic nature & bubbly personality are the icing on the kettlebell cake! Thank you BellZ for creating such a phenomenal community of kick a$$ people!

SHIFT is a wonderful gym filled with community, kindness and encouragement. LZ is the most supportive coach. The workouts are fun and engaging, but can easily be modified depending on your ability level. If you’re on the fence, definitely try it and I’m sure you’ll be coming back!

I have been active and playing sports my whole life - but when that time inevitably came to an end I realized I really struggled to get motivated to go to a gym and do a workout on my own. That was until SHIFT came into my life and has completely changed the game for me. I now "go to the gym" 3-4 times a week happily. Why? Because this is NOT your traditional "going to the gym" experience. This is learning about how to push your body in ways you didn't know you could, gaining strength and confidence that you carry with you every day, and gaining a community of like-minded individuals who are as supportive of my journey as they are of their own (and honestly - kettlebells are FUN). Lauren has created a one-of-a-kind wellness experience and she has built a supportive and inspiring community of people that has changed my life, my wellness, and my ability to lift very heavy things. Not only that, but she was integral to my rehabilitation when I was recovering from a ruptured Achilles AND from a broken arm a year later. She is very attentive and thoughtful towards building and planning our workouts - ensuring that we all grow and progress at our own pace and with what we each need. She knows her stuff too - she's impacted the way I understand my own body! I am incredibly grateful I found SHIFT, Lauren, and the incredible SHIFT community, and now I also know that I can never move away from Chicago ;)

Amazing classes & trainers are extremely knowledgeable!! Love that they focus on getting your form correct before adding weight. Went weekly for 1.5 years before moving out of state. Cannot recommend enough!!

I've been coming to Shift for a little over a year and I've never felt better. Thoughtful instruction here with programming that keeps you from getting bored and allows you to build on your learned skills. Also a real emphasis on strength and mobility for life.
It's one of the first gyms that I've had the most success with consistency due to the excellent coaching and positive and fun community. If you're looking for top quality coaching in a welcoming environment this is your place!

SHIFT is the only gym in Chicago to focus extensively on kettlebells and kettlebell training, which is one of the best (and most overlooked!) types of training to build functional strength that helps people live better lives. Lauren (the owner and head coach) is an exceptional teacher and motivator. She designs workouts that are approachable for someone new, yet sufficiently challenging for the more hard core. The vibe is casual and friendly, and definitely a judgement free zone. The amazing classes can be enhanced with personalized programming, 1-on-1 training, and accountability/nutrition coaching as well. Lauren has deep experience as a personal trainer, and prior to opening SHIFT she spent several years working as a coach at Chicago Primal Gym, which closed its doors during the pandemic. Lauren picked up the kettlebell leadership mantle from CPG when it closed, and has built an amazing training facility that welcomes all, builds strength, and ensures that everyone has a good time and wants to come back again and again.

I always hated working out. I’ve tried boujee gyms, personal trainers, kick boxing, barre, orange theory; etc etc but never could get on a consistent schedule because I dreaded it.
SHIFT is more than a gym. It’s a community. When I miss class, I truly MISS it. I leave class feeling accomplished and overall I feel healthier! Like, without even trying! Lauren is so amazing at making everyone feel special, strong, and proud of themselves!

Excellent classes with a focus on Kettlebells and full body conditioning. I love the small classes and group atmosphere that push me a bit harder to get in a great workout! The workout itself is great too, which is made even better by Coach Lauren "LZ" excellent attitude and support. I was dealing with a back issues from a while ago and LZ made some adjustments for me so I didn't aggravate the injury, while still getting in an amazing sweat. I will be back and recommend to all my friends!

In person kettlebell sessions are back baby!!! Coach Lauren or as many of us affectionally call her LZ has provided us the opportunity to once again meet in person In a one of kind community of kettlebell lovers. No need to be an expert though these classes are for all levels. These workouts are exactly what my body needs. Kettlebells give you opportunity to gain serious strength quickly and provides major calorie burn all while still being low impact. Come for the challenge stay for the community!! And there is PARKING!!! What more could you want?!?!
