Being a Shorei Ryu student back in the 80's i was excited to see it back in Bradley a few years ago.

I always wanted to enroll my son in the the martial art's, but nothing appealed to us.

Sensei Dwight carries the old school
Traditions and values brought here from Japan close to his heart.

Also a distingushed Marine Corp Veteran, his training is above and beyond.

With his compassion for even the most challenging students, he strives to make everyone successful and treats everyone equally.

The confidence that's instilled, the skills that are learned, the freinds that are made can't be replicated

RIP Sensei Wagner. Your Dojo is in good hands

My grandson has been in multiple classes at this school over the last 2 years karate and kickboxing. He has gotten stronger mentally and physically. He has learned so much leadership and respect. He has won many awards and trophies but one of the biggest is world champion in weapons at the age of 8 This school is top notch and I would advise anyone looking for a place for there children or grand children give it a try.

Our son wanted to do something after being basically pushed out of soccer, but has been talking about karate for a couple of years. So in May 2024 we put him Shorei Ryu Karate. There he has made friendship and shows more respect for others. With Sensei D. he has learned a lot and shows how he wants to succeed. The place also has awesome higher belts that take the lower belts and give the convenience. They had our son go to a tournament after 6 weeks of training because of drive and determination. He placed because of the teachings of this place. Please give this Sensei a chance and you should see a change in your child. Also this has helped in getting him off video games all day. This Sensei doesn’t just teach karate making world champions but he also teaches the students the history. If you had to choose one dojo for teaching kids in Kankakee county I choose Shorei Ryu and become the next world champion.

During my exchange program in Rio Rancho, Shorei Ryu Karate Studio was more than just a place to train – it became my family. The karate is highly technical and top-level, taught with discipline and values. I’m truly grateful to Sensei Bossong and his wife for their support and warm welcome! I really miss you all – OSS!

In 2022, a very shy and quiet little 5-year (almost 6 yr )old girl named Kazzidee stepped onto the mat for the very first time. Starting karate was a big leap for her, nerves and butterflies filled her tiny little heart. But little did we know, that step would begin a journey that shaped her into something incredible.

With each class, kick, and punch, Kazzidee grew stronger! Not just in skill, but in CONFIDENCE. What once made her nervous soon became her passion. Competitions that first seemed so scary quickly turned into opportunities to shine. And shine she did! Bringing home trophies, awards, and most importantly, the proud smile of a warrior who never gave up!

Today, she’s not just that quiet little girl anymore. She’s a fierce (Blackbelt club) karate and kickboxing warrior—unstoppable, determined, and powerful in every way. Her journey is proof that courage starts small but grows into something extraordinary.

Kazzidee, you are unstoppable!
Thank you Sensei Dwight 🥋✨💪💚

In response to the last comment, that’s not what happened at all. I witnessed the encounter — YOU ignored the stop sign, nearly hit her, and then chose to flick her off. That’s shameful. Shame on you for leaving out the full story. I actually stopped to check on the lady because of how rude and reckless your driving was. Thank God she didn’t have her child in the car. I think it’s crazy to leave a bad review on an establishment you’ve never been to. I hope she files a police report on you. I actually wanted to inquire about my kids going after seeing it on her car. I was looking up the place and so happen to see this review. Shame on you!

My son attendeds shorei Ryu Karate Studios. He went to karate for self defense, self confidence and much more. It's helping him in so many ways and it's even showing with him at school. If you want your child to learn so much I would attend this karate studio you won't regret it.

One of a parent’s greatest gifts is watching your child realize their potential when they don’t seem to know just how amazing they are. Our daughter (age 6) was given that gift after joining Shorei Ryu Karate Studio. She had self-doubt, and was struggling in school with a lot of – “I can’t do it” and “It’s too hard” feelings. After joining, and learning some Japanese words and Karate techniques, she started to realize things are not as difficult as she initially thought. She realized she can do so many things that she was uncertain of. Once she passed her first belt test she gained so much confidence and pride in her own abilities. It was amazing to see her reaching her full potential. Her temperament has become far less intense, and she really has come out of her shell. She is kind, caring, helpful and proud. I cannot thank Sensei Bossong enough for giving my daughter the gift of confidence she now has. I highly recommend this studio to any parent that feels like their child could use insights into their own potential and self-worth.

We started karate this year, as my six-year-old had been begging to try something new. We really love the sensei and how he instills confidence, respect, and hard-work ethic into all of the students. We know that these life skills will carry him further than we could imagine and are grateful for Shorei Ryu Karate and Sensei Dwight Bossong for the opportunities.
