My first class at Spenga was with Valerie. I thoroughly enjoyed this class. From someone who has limitations in what I can do in my workouts, I found that tailoring my workout by Valerie, was so helpful and made it more enjoyable. I really enjoyed this Class with Valerie. It’s a perfect combo of cardio on the bike with great music to get you going, strength to work on the core and finish off with much needed stretches with Yoga. I was a SPENGA member for a couple of years, took a break to get back into traditional weightlifting, and recently rejoined. Overall, there are a lot of positives about the place.

The membership process—both signing up and canceling—is super easy and straightforward, which I appreciate. Additionally, the facility is always exceptionally clean. They wipe down the bikes, yoga mats, and even the floors after each session, which gives peace of mind, especially in group fitness environments. The instructors are generally great. Some really stand out more than others, as is the case anywhere. The bikes are well maintained; however, not all bikes are created equal. Some are clearly smoother or more comfortable than others, and once you figure out which ones are better, you’ll notice they get reserved pretty quickly.

A heads up: texting during class or using your phone at all is frowned upon. Instructors will call you out—some passively, others more directly. While it’s understandable that they want members to be present and engaged, it doesn’t always account for the reality that some of us have jobs or family obligations that make it hard to completely disconnect, even if it’s just for an hour. Life doesn’t always pause just because you’re working out.

Another thing to keep in mind is the strict class cancellation policy. Because some classes fill up quickly, you have to reserve your spot well in advance—otherwise you may end up on a waitlist. However, if something comes up and you need to remove yourself from a class, you have to cancel at least 8 hours before the start time or you’ll get charged a 10 dollar fee. I get why the policy is in place, to cut down on no-shows, but it doesn’t leave room for things like getting stuck in traffic, a meeting running long, or just not feeling well that day. No exceptions.

Another frustration is when members talk in the middle of the session, whether on the bike or in the strength area. It’s distracting, especially when you can’t hear the instructor. Some instructors are good about managing this, but there are a couple who actually join in the conversation—which you can hear loud and clear since they’ve got a mic on.

One thing that would be really helpful is if they consistently posted the weekly workout schedule. Since SPENGA is pretty leg heavy due to all the cycling, people like me whose knees can’t handle the almost daily squats and lunges, need to know what’s coming so we can plan our workouts accordingly.

Overall, SPENGA DG is a great place; it just wasn’t the right fit for me and my fitness goals.

Spenga DG is a fantastic place. The instructors and staff are great. The cycling resistance scales as you progress keeping you challenged. The weight exercises vary daily to provide balance. I was in terrible shape when I started so the starting level provided sufficient challenge but was at a pace that kept me coming back. So often when you go to cycling you are placed at the same level as those who are advanced. Spenga calibrates to where you’re starting. Highly recommend.

I love the SPENGA work out for a variety of reasons. Every workout is different and they put together a great variety in their program. As a cyclist, I like the intense Interval work outs on the Spin bike. I also appreciate the functional strength part and can feel and see the difference it has made for me. I had been neglecting a strength workout in my routine, and I see how it has helped me maintain my muscle mass. What better way to finish off a good workout than with yoga, which is harder than it looks 🤓 but a great way to stretch out after the hard work. The instructors are all very professional, well trained, and very good at what they do. I appreciate the musical selections they put together and the classes are fun and energetic. I live very close so it’s a great quick 1 hour workout, and I can get on with my day. It has been a really good supplement to my cycling, and I believe it has really helped me stay strong in my riding. I think I’ll keep coming back!

I enjoy SPENGA because it’s a full body workout that includes cardio, weight lifting and stretching all done in 1 hour. I usually go twice a week in the afternoon and rarely have any difficulty finding an open class. I travel for work too, so the variety of class times helps me get my workout in on different days and times.

I joined Spenga at the urging of my daughter after several years after healing for extensive cancer chemo therapy. I was weak and fragile and thought that was just going to be the way it is. My “new reality”. Spenga gave me my life back! At Spenga, It’s you versus you. 20 minutes of bike (in the dark with decently loud music so no one can hear you huff-and-puff), followed by 20 min of weight training, and finishing with 20 min of yoga (so you don’t injure yourself and can come back). The levels are so varied you can be next to a beastly strong man or a marathoner or a mid-life mom just trying to get her groove back. Every exercise regime I had followed up until finding Spenga I would injure myself, because all of the supporting muscles were noodles. Going 2-3 times per week over the next two years allowed me to finally feel like myself again. Oh and the best part about it is the instructors!! The music is great, up-beat. Their concentration on form, so you don’t re-wreck yourself, is fantastic. And, the ability to continually max out your stretch and levels has kept me There for six years. THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME MY LIFE BACK! And now I’m strong and fit and you’d never know that my body had ever betrayed me. Thank you!

Beware of clingy contracts! I signed up for a 180 day commitment with the understanding it would not be recurring after. I had medical issues 4 months in and asked to suspend. They kept hounding me to physically come in to sign a contract to suspend during this time. I finally decided to let the contract run out. I could’ve sworn I checked that I had no active membership in my account… only to find out months later that I’m being charged for a recurring membership still that I don’t recall agreeing to. Once again they won’t cancel the charges and want me to sign a contract to end. This is so ridiculously clingy and unnecessary it’s leaving an awful taste in my mouth over their business practices.

Still having a hard time walking…but that’s a good thing! I went on Saturday the 1st and got my butt kicked by Danielle. She was great at ensuring I was absolutely comfortable of how things worked at Spenga (this was my first time). Love the vibes in the cycle section. The strength section tested me athletically in ways not felt in a while. The yoga section was a wonderful way to calm down before jumping right outside into cold weather still trying to catch my breath.

Only thing I think is worth noting for people that aren’t regulars is the water fountain was down over the weekend so make sure you bring a full water bottle. I made the mistake of drinking all mine before I got there but they completely understood I would need water and let me grab one from the fridge at no charge.

Once the soreness dies down I’m definitely going again.

I've been looking for a good fitness route for a while and SPENGA checks every mark for me. Excellent, fun, caring instructors. They are like superheroes to me. Great management. I was really look for schedule flexibility and SPENGA offers as mornings, afternoons on certain days and evenings which is PERFECT for me. Good amounts of cardio, strength and yoga. They offer everything you need, you just need to bring a towel and your water bottle. Great app. It's an intense workout, so if you're going from couch to SPENGA, I would take small steps before attempting to go at the instructors pace. The pricing is really fantastic too. I was not happy with the services I received today from the Downer's Grove Location. Jayne the Manager was not very helpful and gave little to no explanation as to why my account had been charged for 119 dollars and unfroze without my consent. I didn't not receive a formal written notice via my email nor did I receive a text. I have been a member at this location for all most a year. This is not how you conduct business. A formal email / letter would have been nice , especially during theses unprecedented times. Jayne demeanor was not pleasant over the phone. She did not offer a formal apology nor seemed to care that a loyal paying customer was not satisfied with the services provided today. This has been the worst gym experience ever !

I have been coming to Spenga weekly for the past two months or so - initially I was intrigued by the idea of adding yoga into a session of weights/spin (two workouts that I already love). I cannot say enough how much I love these classes. I love starting my day off with 20 minutes of spin and all the instructors curate awesome playlists to get you pumped for the day. The strength portion usually mixes in weighted exercise with "cardio"/plyometric moves so I am able to keep my HR up throughout the whole class. Thank you Spenga for the challenging and exciting workouts!

If you're looking for a workout that combines the best of both worlds (cardio + strength + mobility), definitely give Spenga a try. Just remember to bring a workout towel with you!

I have been working out at SPENGA for 3 years now. I have slowly increased my load from one time a week to now 3-4 times a week. I was not a jock in high school and i have always hated running. I have tried so many different workouts and nothing ever stuck for long, until now. I am naturally skinny, just wanted to become healthier and possibly get some muscle definition. For the first time ever I have visible muscle tone in my arms and my flexibility has increased ten fold!

It's been a little over two months since I’ve joined SPENGA and I am addicted! The work outs are fun and challenging. The staff and instructors are friendly, accommodating and most important – motivating! The instructors also make a great effort to make the class work for everyone attending. Spenga is a great experience. I feel like I never get bored during the workouts here and there is always something different. But the best of all are the instructors.
