I am not sure what its about this gym but the few times I have been to this location there's crazy people working out. I have gone other LA fitness/Xsports and they have been fine. A few times I have been here I have seen people talking out loud to themselves and throwing weights clearly mentally unstable. Its a bit scary trying to work out by them. This last time a man early in the morning got too close to me and my bf, it seemed like he wanted to start something. Then follows my bf outside to try to fight him because he heard my bf say how weird that man was getting too close to us. We talked to a female manager and she said she could file an incident report but nothing can be done unless that same man has 3 strikes? How about think about the safety of your customers before you get sued. Also training your staff to call to know what to do in those situations. I don't think this location is safe to be honest.

I went to this location and enjoyed the facility. The weight room had more equipment than other gyms I’ve been to. It gives a classic feel to the weight room and still has the newer equipment you’d expect to see. Plenty of cardio machines and it was clean and kept up. If you don’t have a membership, consider this gym because it has everything you need!

I was a longtime member of this gym — we're talking years of loyalty — but unfortunately, it’s gone downhill. While they’ve finally hired janitorial staff (which was desperately needed because the women’s restroom used to be downright foul), basic cleanliness is still a huge issue. You basically have to walk around with a pack of sanitation wipes because no one — not even the trainers who work out there themselves — bothers to clean the machines.

Speaking of trainers, Liz in particular stands out for all the wrong reasons. Her attitude is consistently rude, especially toward the management team. She acts like the gym couldn’t function without her, and it really creates a toxic vibe.

Facility issues? Constant. Last winter, the heat went out and it took nearly three weeks to fix — people were literally wearing winter gloves just to get a workout in. Fast forward to summer, the AC is now broken and we’re on week three of that too. The excuse? A part is “on backorder.” This seems to be a pattern.

The front desk staff and general team? Constant turnover. It feels like there’s a new crew every time you walk in, and that’s probably because they keep firing and rehiring entire teams.

I wanted to stick it out, but at this point, I’m not holding my breath for any real improvements.

No offers for existing Xsport loyal customers. I understand that you need to bump up the pricing, but at least renew machines or fix them. Adding more lighting won’t do it! Some of the people prefer less lighting. Hours are cut.

Men’s locker room is a mess. Stinks very badly. Every time I come the locker room gets worse and worse. Upstairs none of the weights are put up, it’s leaking on the basketball court and in the workout room. Staff is very lazy. Top worst locations to workout at. I do not recommend

I've been going here since 2008. It's nice because the weights are superior here. Most gyms don't have quality weight machines or full sets of dumbells. So the selection is good here. It's so good that I would argue that 45 pounds even weighs more here.

It's not super clean, but it's not super dirty either. Unfortunately it's becoming an old facility and the place needs updating. However it still has everything you need to work out and that's the most important aspect of the gym.

I love going here to workout. It's open 24/7 and they are open all the time. They always have good deals going on for memberships and I have got great gains here. People who work here don't put enough time to have correct email addresses on file for customers. I have repeatedly told multiple associates there and due to the recent LA fitness merge, it's been extremely hard to get my "keytag" on my app due to the wrong email addresses.

Sandra at front desk of XSport DG refused me entrance with my 16yo son who provided valid ID & complied with all requirements of the posted rules for attendance on 4th of July because she does not know the rules well enough. Some One from corporate please watch the footage of her discriminating against me based on my appearance (I’m Asian). She first harassed me for no reason saying I do not look like my son because I stated that he was my son & guest. after I had already signed in and had been there with him multiple times. She then sent another staff member to tell us my son was not allowed to be there because he’s 16 & allegedly no one under 18 is permitted to use the facility. I had to go & show her the posted rule plaque that is at the front of the store that states 14-17 yos are allowed with valid ID & accompanied by a guardian. We had complied with all regulations & when I told her she was in the wrong, she stated she would request my membership be terminated because she did not feel comfortable having me there. The whole situation was caused by Her lack of manners & knowledge of policy but paled in comparison to her unsolicited verbal discrimination of my appearance. I have video & audio recording of
the incident if anyone from management would care to see it.

Disappointing Experience

I recently visited X Sport Fitness in Downers Grove and was very disappointed with my experience. The shower area was filthy, and the bathroom was dirty and smelled unpleasant. The sauna was in poor condition, both dirty and deteriorating. The hydro massage space was also unclean, with an exposed hole in the wall where a vent cover was broken. no towel service provided. This was a very disappointing first visit, and I expected much better standards from a major fitness center with these amenities. Also the showers had many small flys throughout the shower.

Incompetent staff / garbage amenities. I called around 6pm on 6/1/24 to confirm their hydro massage was working because, as I explained I standing in my normal Carol stream Xsport and their hydro massage was down. I drove 20+ minutes to arrive for the front desk attendant to tell me it was also down. I said that can’t be, because I literally just called to confirm it was working. Front desk Attendant walks back to double check and lets me know it was indeed not working. Asked to speak to a manager and this guy just looked at me with a blank stare. Kept repeating “he just wasn’t informed” “its not their fault”. This chain sucks go elsewhere.

Went to cancel my membership and no told me I could go in person to do so, so I went online and followed their steps of mailing in a letter requesting cancellation of my membership. Never got a response and then got charged for said following month. Called to ask how this can be resolved and then that’s how I found out you can cancel in person. Went in and canceled got some attitude from the manager Matt about choosing to leave. Treated my boyfriend with a smile and handshake… then today I get hit with a $10 charge and so I called just to be told there is a $10 cancellation fee THAT NO ONE TOLD ME ABOUT. Over all it’s just a horrible gym and if I was told all this in the beginning I would’ve never joined. All of this speech when I joined was just how to bring in the most money.

This gym has been around for years and it definitely shows. Doesn’t seem like a lot has been updated or maintained. Issues range from dirty bathrooms, bugs in the light above the toilets, an odor in the bathroom, loose tiles, dirty equipment, loose machine equipment, etc. On top of that, there is a lack of respect for members time with trainers. Have continuously watched trainers have clients on equipment for 30 mins at a time talking. All around this isn’t the gym I remember 10+ years ago. Contemplating going somewhere else in the near future.

I didn’t want to have to leave a review but I’ve had to send my SECOND cancellation letter and have not gotten a single response. I followed the steps on their website and sent it to their PO Box as requested and have not heard anything and I’m still being charged.

Why do I want to cancel? Aside from the fact that I don’t live anywhere near this gym anymore, the upkeep was horrendous. Always a machine broken, no one wiping down their machines, and dirty bathrooms were the worst offenders.

Not to mention you can’t even use the equipment. What is the point of having a yoga studio with equipment supplied if guests aren’t even allowed to use it. Worth the extra money to go to a better gym.

Wanted to give this place a 0 STAR. I bought a prepaid 2 year membership and was thinking of signing up with a personal trainer but thanks to the front desk staff I cancelled my membership. I wrote to the corporate too. For sure staff attitude matters in determining the success of the business. They must scrutinize thoroughly why there are so many negative reviews specifically for this location.

Visited Downers Grove(3200 Finley Rd) facility with my guest(my spouse) for first time. The guy at front desk refused to let her in because we had a scan copy of her ID, he referred us to his manager who allowed her entry by sounding like he did such a great favor but here is what he told me “you need to show physical copy of your guest's ID proof EVERY SINGLE DAY SHE VISITS THE GYM”

I have a kid and this guy asked me whether my kid is guest at the gym too. I was like Seriously!!! Do kids look like a "guest member" working out in gym. Don't they play in child's play area.

I can understand a physical ID is required on first day for verification. Once that is done you should be good to go. This is normal everywhere. But I am shocked to hear him say "Bring the physical ID proof EVERY SINGLE DAY you come with your guest"

Bringing a PHYSICAL ID PROOF or other valuable means you are at high risk of losing them at the gym floor or at the locker room. They don’t seem to understand nor do they sound like they care.

I was from out of town visiting the area and I was swindled into purchasing a membership that was $30, and I was not told that there was a $54 maintenance fee on top of a $10 cancelation fee. I should've just taken the $20/24hr visitor pass but was told the membership would be a better option. Don't be deterred by the awful reviews.

It is evident that staff is doing their best to resolve issues and maintain the property and facility. The staff is very friendly and extremely helpful.

The place appears a little worn, but every machine I used in the weight room and cardio worked perfectly without any issues. I have no problems having a great workout here. They have a wide variety of machines and plenty of cardio equipment, isolated machines, dumbells, and cable cages.

Definitely check this place out if you're visiting or new to the area. Great location near hotels, food, and shopping. I enjoyed my workouts here and thank you to the staff for being helpful!

Every morning I come here this guy working behind the desk is sleeping. People try to buy protein shakes and water and end up just walking out with it because you can't wake him. During this time there was two kids swimming in the pool unsupervised while their parent was working out, which seems like a major safety issue. Additionally high school kids know to come at this time because they can literally just walk by the guy sleeping at the desk.

My issue is that I pay for tanning. I was paying $9.99/month but upgraded my account so I could use the unlimited tanning portion of the Spa benefits. The two highest level beds (Beds #5 and #6) have been broken since I started here 3 years ago. Now the two middle level beds are broken (room 13 and 14). My sole reason for upgrading my account was to use tanning. I called yesterday and the manager said the beds are unrepairable and no estimate, "if or when they will be fixed". Can someone give me an estimate of when the 4 broken tanning beds will be fixed? I literally can't use the services I upgraded for. Additionally, the men's locker rooms, particularly the showers are disgusting. There was actual human feces in one of the showers today. There are drain flys with their larva/maggots in every shower stall. All the shower curtains, at least the ones that are not broken, are full of visible mold. I really don't know how the health department allows the locker room to stay open. Maybe instead of sleeping your employee can clean the showers or use the maintenance fee we pay to have someone deep clean them and repair all the broken tiles in the shower. The showers here are more disgusting than any facility I have ever used and I have used showers in third world countries and campsites.

Management here tells you they can't do anything to help and tells you to call customer service phone number. I called five times. Waited on hold each time for over 3 hours and ended up ending the call without speaking to anyone. I'm not sure if anyone actually answers the phones but it's a complete waste of time. The longest I waited was my entire 8 hour shift at work. I called right when they opened and left my cellphone on my desk next to me on speaker phone for my entire work day and still no one answered! You have to call to cancel your membership so I'm sure this is why they make it so difficult to talk to someone. You literally can't so how could you cancel. This place should be shutdown

My biggest gripes are that the men’s sauna is gross and the men’s room, the upper floor of weights are not clean, most of the medicine balls are all in the locked trainer rooms, the toilets are nasty, and the hot tub also has problems sometimes. The lower floor is fine. There’s also no towels, which isn’t the end of the world. I used to go to a XSPORT a couple years ago in Virginia that had towels so idk if this is something new. And you have to bring a lock. But overall for 20-40 dollars a month with an occasional annual fee, this is a great deal. I see in the comments that the enrollment fee was much more before so get in while the fee is low and see if you can get the one payment deal, it’s around 20 bucks a month for access to any class or facility and unlimited guest privileges. 24 hours a day and a pool you can swim in without a lifeguard is awesome. Plus they have a good number and variety of machines and free weights.

The YMCA charges more (50-80 dollars a month plus a fee in some places) and has very restrictive hours (especially for the pool) and most YMCAs also don’t have towels and their equipment is sub optimal. The only thing the YMCA does better is cleaning andChicago Athletic Clubs is cleaner than XSPORT but their parking stinks, hours are really limited, they’re overpriced (90 dollars a month I believe) and there are way more people than machines, it’s too busy. YMCA and CAC both have too many swimmers and not enough lanes too, and lanes are often closed for swimming clubs or lessons. Life Time is cleaner and has towels and you don’t have to bring a lock, and good hours but not 24 hours, plus lifetime is insanely expensive. I would much rather have the cheap prices of XSPORT than pay 150-240 a month at lifetime. Plus unlike the YMCA, Life Time and sometimes CAC, you don’t have to deal with kids in the locker rooms.

A downside is while YMCA has locations everywhere and LifeTime has locations in many metro areas across America, XSPORT only has locations in the Chicago, DMV and NYC metro areas. XSPORT staff aren’t the friendliest or most interested but that doesn’t bother me much. This location isn’t much different from other Xsports in that department.

Now with that being said, I tried the Carol Stream XSPORT, and it makes the one in North Downers Grove look like a dump. It’s way newer, way better sauna, just as many machines, and feels much cleaner and the locker room is way less claustrophobic. So in the future I will drive the extra 7 minutes and go to Carol Stream. But for the money, XSPORT Downers Grove North is better than most despite its shortcomings.

Absolutely terrible gym as a far as cleanliness goes the bathrooms especially, just loose toilet paper everywhere and a few times they just had needles laying in the bathroom and even by the time I finished my workout, they were still there in one instance. The staff are generally just lazy when it comes to you asking to use certain spa stuff and they just act annoyed when asked. This gym is just way too crowded for my liking and it hardly matters what time you go. Aside from all the additional things the gym offers aside from hitting the weights or running would be the only upside this place has otherwise just seems like a bit of a toxic environment if I had to best describe this place deserves 0 stars

Very bad customer service.
I signed up in 2021 at one location. They told me I could go to any location. Apparently it was location specific membership. In 2023 trying to work out at Downers Grove location . They did not let me work out as a courtesy one time, until I figure out to upgrade or pay $10 every time I come to this location. The concept is not money, it is CUSTOMER SERVICE for a member since 2021.

I love the gym.. I’m giving them a 1 star because, they scam me 2 years in a role with the muscle building competition.. They make you get a personal trainer for the whole competition which cost me like $1200 and you have to buy 2 supplements which cost me another $100.. Just signed in, last Saturday (May 13, 2023). In advertising stand 1 dollar enrollment fee and the man there charged me 19.50 dollars for enrollment. Two days later I got the SMS with advertising 1 dollar enrollment fee again. There is something not clean and not nice:-( when I asked manager about such fee changes, she couldn't help me and told that she's not responsible for that. On the homepage you can see 1 dollar enrollment fee till May 17. It's not a big amount but really not honest and not nice.

I was a member for 1.5 year, for the first 7-8 months one of the steam rooms wasn’t working and no one gives a … I was emailing them about it, asking on the office desk, never got an answer when they will fix it. When I wanted to quit, they offered me to be “on hold” for 10$ per month, I agreed, bad decision. After 4 months they raised the price without notifying me and I was paying 13$ for keeping my membership on hold, I also had to pay yearly fee for maintenance (haha good joke). After some time I finally canceled (and they took another 10$ for that). This gym is not worth it, I had a feeling that no one cares there. I've been a member of x-sport since 2001. Since reopening after COVID, a complete change in staff, etc- not as friendly but no big deal as I'm there to workout. Toilets out of service, showers a mess, etc but no big deal as I'm there to workout.
Here's the BIG CHANGE -
The clientele is not the same - it's become more of a "ghetto" gym, which will toughen you up, but I wouldn't bring any valuables into the gym. No wallet, watch, etc. And keep a very close eye on your cell phone. Still a good gym. Just be extremely careful with your valuables.

Went in this morning to check it out based on the reviews I was reading I was very skeptical. Upon arrival, I turned into what used to be a parking lot, as I was greeted with crater sized potholes in abundance that may require most people to see a dentist after your visit. As I enter, my pleasant welcoming greet came from a salesman young black gentleman that I had to walk up to at one of the sales desk, he was too busy talking to one of his buddies to notice me in my work uniform and boots standing at the reception desk. He was irritated I broke up their great conversation, I’m sure his dread headed buddy (another employee at Xsport) is full of interesting conversations. I like to believe he was telling the salesman about his drive in to work this morning, and how his car was smoking so bad that he couldn’t see the parking spaces in the lot at Xsport and came inches of hitting my $70,000 pick-up truck right in the driver’s door with me in it. But I digress, when the salesman acknowledges me, he asks “are you going to work out today?” After telling him I want a tour and to possibly join. I could tell he didn’t want to give me a tour, for such a big building it took less than a couple minutes. He barely talked, never gave me his name, didn’t ask what amenities I’m interested in, barely answered my questions or just ignored them all together, etc. We sat down to talk pricing, and when I saw there was a $150 enrollment fee for a basic membership, I couldn’t bring myself to do it. Even though I could definitely see myself going to this gym consistently, I was not letting the “enrollment fee” go to this kid’s pocket to do something I could’ve done myself. Seriously, it was terrible service and I walked out frustrated bc I read all the reviews and went there with a positive attitude, just for my experience to be worse than what I had read about this place. There’s no pride here

Elizabeth is good at pushing me to achieve my training goals. She is patient and accommodating with scheduling. I can have a problem with my shoulder, and she finds the perfect exercises for me to keep me on par with my workouts. The workouts are never the same and she keeps them interesting. I have learned how to use pieces of gym equipment that I have not used or picked up before. I have a new respect for TRX.

Overall for the money it's a great facility if you use everything that's included. Weights, pool, sauna, steam, cold plunge, hot tub, classes, water massage, hydro pod, infared sauna, and more. All included. I pay $39/mo. Then they have even more services: massage, compression, theragun's, personal training, supplements and more. Blows away LifeTime, LA Fitness and others for the price. Oh yeah, month to month! No contracts. Good place!

I go to every xsport in the Chicago area. This location is by far the worst. Mold all over shower curtains. Excessive amounts of mold. It's disgusting. The curtains do not even cover the door, every person walking by can creep a look at you. Multiple broken machines, they have a sticker on the machine to notify the staff of an issue. The reports are never addressed. I submitted a couple and then gave up because nothing happened. Lots of machines are missing handles. Loose bolts , hinges, etc. The men's sauna had Dozens of nails sticking out of the bench or wall. It took them 3 weeks to adress it. tetanus is a real thing and debilitating. It rarely reaches temperatures over 150. The hot tub is disgusting. A bench was ripped out of the floor in the men's locker room about 6 months ago, and it was never replaced. Loose bearings on the 3 stationary bikes.
Every other Xsport gym has a much higher standard of cleanliness and maintenance.

Poorly maintained location & shady pricing structure.

This location frequently has out of order equipment. I pay for the higher tier membership to use the hydromassage bed, but it is out of order 8/10 times I try to use it. The leg press machine was broken for months and the stair masters are out of order half of the time.

Beyond the equipment being out of order, the location is just dirty. Take a look at the air vents in the bathrooms, fitness rooms or pool area. The vent above the hot tub will make you want to throw up. It is covered in green/grey slime. Floors are dirty and hard to reach areas are covered in dust.

Finally, I would advise people considering X-Sport to be aware that the pricing structure is designed to rope you in and raise your prices after a year. My husband pays for the base plan advertised at $9.95/month. When he signed up over a year ago, he had to pay a sign on fee. After a year, they raised his rates to $12.95/month because the contract you sign says they can raise your rates. However, they still advertise $9.95 on the website. The only way to move back to the $9.95 a month plan is to cancel his current membership (which offers the same club benefit access) and to sign up for the "new" $9.95 a month plan and be charged the joining fee once again. I called the customer service number, and they refused to do anything about this saying it is what it is and that they have the legal right to raise member's rates. So, join Xport if you want, but just know that the $9.95 rate (plus hefty joining fee) is a honeymoon rate before the jack up your rate. This is a poor way to run a business, and they should be ashamed of how they choose to do business.

Sport Fitness is the worst gym I ever had, no matter the location they are dirty, messy, broken equipment, bad parking lot when snowing because don't shovel at all. On top of that my locker was forced and someone took my money, when I reported to the front desk they take no action. I'm taking my business somewhere else.

Worked out here for 7 years. At least one thing or another is always broken or not in complete working order. This is especially apparent when I go out of town for extended periods of time and come back. Usually then, I always notice multiple things broken or not in working order. It can also get pretty dirty at times. Overall Xsport has a business model that few gyms in the area can match, but this specific location needs to do better.

I used to come here with no issues for a year. Then I had to cancel for personal medical reasons. I cancelled in the first week of June 2022. They charged me for 2 months of full membership for June and July. I have called corporate, Downers Grove, emailed, you name it. No one will refund me my money. They stole my money. At this point I'm filing a charge back with my bank since no one wants to answer me.

Seems to be a huge problem at Naperville and Downers Grove locations. The A/C in the basketball court is never on. Isn’t that something we can change? The staff gets mad when we prop the entrance doors open to get some cold air in here. We don’t hoop outside since it’s way to hot so all we ask is that the A/C unit be turned on when we come to the gym.

Even the locals that attend this gym such as Winnie, aka my gym grandma are awesomely awesome. I used to “workout” at planet fitness under my friends guest pass. My gym friend wasn’t the best liability partner:/ which was not ideal for them yung gainz. Not only are there no laws at planet fitness, the machines are basic. I sat each day on my yoga mat thinking about when my life was gonna change. Xsport has unlimited liability partners which is crucial for a hot gorl summer. Guys are worried about losing their girlfriends since I can now pick up girls due to my massively massive biceps. Girls have walked their boyfriends out of work because of my looks. Random women have tried to pick fights with me because their husband was looking at me. This last month I've only worn makeup once because I’ve acquired immense natural beauty and it's been glorious. Not only have I become able to carry the whole world on my shoulders, I now am getting ready for the rest of the galaxy. Big foot? I’m more like the friendly giant who’s ready to open up any pickle jar, lift swords out of concrete, and there to save the day when mayhem arises.

Place doesn’t allow bringing in 1 guest after 9 PM even with a full membership. Also, it’s very dirty for how much they’ve said they cleaned. There is a creepy guy going to the pool and harassing people which they don’t do anything about (we’ve complained many times and they said they can’t do anything about him NOT EVEN CALLING THE COPS) canceled my membership today. Worst gym experience yet. Be careful with getting a membership here as they will stop the gym from staying 24/7 at any point they feel. Last time was because they were trying to keep everything clean in which nothing really changed afterwards and I waited months for it to get back due to my work schedule only for them to turn back my guest. Embarassing.

Edit: for the owner replying, we’ve already complained many times but things are still exactly the same. Unreliable support and service, dirty gym and locker rooms, creepy people that the staff can’t deal with even if they are a risk to the members. A guest can check in at 8:58pm and stay as much as they want but its suddenly a risk if 1 guest comes in at 9:30 or later even for an hour of working out. Won’t be coming back.

Don't sign up for this place! I signed up (with 4 other friends) in December 2021. I paid 550$ for two years. Not a bad deal. However as soon as I signed up they stopped being 24/7 due to the pandemic so they can "clean." Okay whatever. They recently became 24/7 so I started going again. First day back I notice the place is just as dirty as before. They have extra time to clean but it wasnt any cleaner. My friends and I also encountered a creepy old guy at the hot tub. We talked with other people there and they said how he was trying to touch them in the hot tub and he was doing really weird stuff. We complained about him but they said they couldn't do anything and that they've had complaints about him before. Fast forward to today. We wait an extra hour so we don't encounter the creepy old guy and they refuse to let one of our friends in as a guest even tho we have unlimited guess passes since we have the top tier membership. We explain that we're trying to avoid the weird old guy and they comment about how he's always here and shrug us off. Still refusing entry to our guest. It's amazing how they wont stand up to the old guy, but they'll stand up to us trying to bring a guest past 9. The reason they weren't as lenient with our situation with the old guy was because one member complained that it wasn't fair that a guest came after 9. Even tho a guest can come in before 9 and stay as long as they want. It doesn't make sense and management needs to get their stuff together. Oh and not to mention upon signing up they failed to tell us about a 10$ cancelation fee because they're "contractless."

TLDR: DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY AT THIS PLACE. MANAGEMENT DOESNT CARE ABOUT YOU IF YOU HAVE ANY ISSUES AT ALL.

Management is fully aware of a member that has has been harassing/trying to grope women in the pool/hot tub area.
Management told me that this member has also contaminated the pool and hot tub area, resulting in a draining and cleaning.
Multiple members/guests have complained to management about this individual, and while they acknowledge the issue, they have refused to do anything about it.
This member has been allowed to continually sign in almost every day without issue, because it is not during their peak hours, he is allowed free reign.
