For current schedule always check the Hoosier Gym website under the schedule section.
Visit the "Hoosiers" movie home of the "Hickory Huskers". Shoot baskets were Jimmy & Ollie played. Run the picket fence. Sit on the locker room bench just like Coach Norman Dale. Get your picture taken with the Hickory banner and the famous team photo. Check the Hoosier Gym off your bucket list.
If the Gym is rented by a group or if there are basketball games being held, you may not be allowed to take a complete tour of the Gym or shoot any baskets on the court. Please check the website, Facebook or call the Gym for updated schedules.
There are times when the Gym is rented for a PRIVATE EVENT. In that case, the Gym will be closed to the public.

Though neither of us had seen the movie yet, we both knew the storyβs basic premiseβone of the perks of having grown up before the internet, when America still shared a common cultural vocabulary. Visiting film locations is one of our favorite things to do when we travel, and this one was especially memorable.
We arrived about thirty minutes before opening, but the curator was incredibly kind and welcomed us in early, offering a personal and private tour. It felt like stepping right into a piece of cinematic history, and it quickly became one of our favorite experiences of the entire trip.
The place is made even more special since the community continues to use it to this day for basketball and other events.

My husband was amazed at finding this gem after seeing a sign on the highway. We got off the expressway and made our way there. Admission is free, but they do accept donations to help with expenses. There is so much to see and do there, and the docents are very knowledgeable. We had a great time, and hubby got a Hoosier Gym hat!!

Visited on 6.16.2025. If you are a basketball fan or you enjoy the movie Hoosiers, this place is a MUST see. The gym itself is just like in the movie and you can shoot hoops or play an actual game with other visitors. The enormous collection of signed jerseys by local area teams is Amazing, as are the posters and and pictures that reference the Hoosiers movie. This place is a National Treasure! Highly Recommend to anyone traveling through the area.

This place is amazing. The hosts gave a wonderful tour and at the end of it I got to pick up a basketball and play in the gym
Where Hoosiers was filmed. They do all day basketball there. While I was there probably 20 different kids came in to play and it was really fun to see them playing with a ball instead of a phone

We were on our way to visit Springfield, IL from Ohio via I-70 and we saw a billboard advertising the Hoosier Gym from the iconic movie Hoosiers..one of my all time favorites. And this will go down as one of my all-time favorite unexpected finds. The gym is just like you remember in the movie..the home games were played here. The volunteers were very knowledgeable and showed my wife and I all around. We were able to shoot some hoops and they have a ton of T-shirts, sweatshirts, photos, etc for sale. Only 4 miles off the highway and soooo worth it! Highly recommended!!!

The tour was simple and sweet. The staff are super friendly. It was fun to be told you were standing on the very spot where Gene Hackman stood and uttered the words, " Welcome to Indiana basketball!" Also really enjoyed shooting hoops on the iconic gym floor. (Yes, you are allowed to do that, even encouraged to). There is a lot of memorabilia to see and to purchase. I was not disappointed. I would greatly encourage watching the movie again before you go. It makes the experience so much more meaningful. Just 16 miles down the road in the nearby town of New Castle is the Hoosier Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. A must-see for any basketball enthusiast.

Even if youβve never seen the movie βHoosiersβ, watching a game in this historic gym is a fun experience! We visited on a Saturday to watch a high school game and were lucky enough to see the 1939 Chevy bus. The gym is filled with memorabilia from the movie as well as jerseys left behind from teams that have played on the court. If you want to take home a souvenir, they offer a wide selection of merchandise such as posters, shirts, replica courts, and hats. The concessions were also reasonably priced, and I highly recommend getting their popcorn. I greatly enjoyed visiting this gym and hope to make it back soon!

So, if you love basketball and you fell in love with the movie, "Hoosiers," you can't miss coming to Knightstown.
I had looked up this location even before they had made it into the place it is today, and I had always wanted to stop in as I traveled across I-70 a couple of times each year. This time, I threw my schedule to the wind and stopped, and what an incredible journey.
You'll learn so much about this movie and other things about basketball. And the people that run it are so friendly and kind!!!
ONE OF THE BEST THINGS ABOUT IT IS THAT IT'S FREE!!!
These folks do a tremendous job! You can donate if you want or just buy some merch where the proceeds are used to continue to operate this iconic location.
Don't miss this walk down basketball memory lane!!!

It is a free visit but they ask for donations. We drove over 4hrs 1 way to see this from michigan.... such a great visit. Stop in soon, if you love the movie you'll love the gym.

My brother and I are big hoops fans. Our favorite part was the group of guys running it. They are volunteers who are down to Earth, and you can tell they really love this place. They'll tell ya all about the gym, the movie, or Knightstown. This is truly a blast from the past. You can play on the court, rent it out for your team to play, or just take a few pics. They have an incredible gift shop and top-notch folks running it. It is worth the trip. You can spend a couple of hours or 15 minutes, but either way, you'll leave enjoying this bit of history! We loved our time here. Go Hickory!

Looked forward to seeing this place for a while, and when you walk in youβre immediately taken back to the film. Instantly recognizable. Locker room is available to visit as well.
They do play games in this gym so theyβve replaced the original backboards with glass, square ones with breakaway rims, and added a 3 point line and a modern scoreboard even though the old one is still present. I wish theyβd have just left everything as-is and did zero modernization but I understand.
Absolutely awesome place to visit, one of the great stories in sports and one of the better sports films.

We really enjoyed seeing the gym from the movie. We were given a tour, and we were even able to shoot some hoops! They had the 1939 bus that was used in the movie sitting outside to see and sit in. It even still runs, and we saw it driving in town after we left. Gene Hackman's car from the movie is usually displayed there, but it was gone the day we were there. They have a small gift shop and an area with memorabilia displayed. It's all free; however, you are welcome to leave a donation. We love old homes/ architecture, and we drove around the town after our tour. There are so many beautiful homes and buildings there. The old school next to the gym blew us away. We're so glad we stopped.

Just happened to stop by because we saw their sign on the main road thru town. I've been watching this show every fall since it has come out. I am so glad that they kept this place exactly the way it was in the movie. They let us shoot some hoops there and got to go down to the famous locker room. The lady overseeing it for the day was a gem! Full of information and so kind to show us around. I got to learn what was true of the "based on a true story". I was surprised. You gotta check it out.

I grew up just 6 miles from this old gym. Since they restored it it is beautiful and a place of history close by, love it.
