Master Messmer is a wonderful instructor and does wonders. My son has been going here for months and has learned so much.

There are classes for adults and kids as young as 5, bit i would suggest starting later 🤔

I started taking classes and they are just as fun as for the little kids.

We have now been going here for two years and I recommend the school to all, even if you're old...er, like me.

We signed our son now (10 yrs old) up for lessons in 2022. We had no expectations other than offering him a physical extracurricular activity. We never realized the impact Rising Star would have on his confidence. Watching the positive changes in our son has been amazing. Rising Star is our second family. Eveyone here (parents and instructors) are wonderful people.
Rising Star also offers so much more than just classes! Master Messmer also offers hiking advendtures, camping excursions, movie nights, holiday parties, nurf nights, and birthday parties!

The collective of instructors is simply amazing. You can't get better quality teaching. The history of taekwondo, teaching from Grand Master Grove all the way down to The Family Of Messmers all instructed throughout the years by Grand Master Grove. Class sizes are great for all ages.

My kids have been going here for only about eight months, and we are so happy with this school. The instructors are very detailed and teach very well. My kids are very excited to go to Taekwondo every day, and they learn so much. Doing Taekwondo here has taught my kids discipline and respect, and they are learning every day more and more things they can apply to the real world. I am very very happy with rising star Taekwondo!

Coming back to martial arts after 15 plus years I felt a little apprehensive. After about six months, my back issues improved and I was feeling more physically fit! Master Messmer continues to challenge me physically and mentally each day in class.

I started training at Rising Star in 1986 under Master Grove. I trained with him for 10 years in Schererville until I moved from the area. About a year ago I discovered there is now a Rising Star in Portage run by Master Messmer. I was happy to find the same quality of instruction that I had missed for the last 20 years. Master Messmer’s skill, knowledge, and love for the art are truly worthy of the Rising Star tradition. If you are looking for traditional Tae Kwon Do, practical self defense, competition training, or simply a fun way to get in shape other than a boring health club...you will not be disappointed!
