I’ve been a VASA member since it opened but just switched to PF.
Vasa was great when it opened. Over the years, it has lost many of its good class instructors.
I’ve generally been able to ignore the large crowds, groups of “bros”, and lack of gym etiquette from many users. Way too many people don’t put their weights away, hog equipment, or film themselves.
The equipment and facilities maintenance has gone down hill, and in fact gotten ridiculous. 75% of the stair mills are consistently broken. There are large holes in the wall by the functional training area that haven’t been repaired for months, along with large gouges in the floor by the functional training area.

Spent $15 on a day pass, half the cables were broken, 4 squat racks out of service, pool out of order, cardio theater was demolished, 20% of the rest of the machines were out of order. This gym is worth about isn't worth $4/month. Membership should be free if you bring a toolbox.

Dirty, over crowded, overpriced for what you get. I’ve only belonged to Vassa Fitness, Beach Grove for one month and am ready to cancel my membership. I primarily joined for the cycle room, pool, and saunas. They have gotten rid of cycle classes all together and didn’t mention that this amenity was going away though they knew when I took the tour. Many people seem upset. The pool is one of the dirtiest I’ve seen and hasn’t been cleaned the whole month I’ve been there. Same tissues, rocks, and bandaids in there since the first day I signed up. People wear their shoes in the saunas and the whole place is really dirty. It’s not uncommon for instructors to not show up, and several have complained about the facility to the class while they were teaching. I recommend spending your money elsewhere.

I have been a member for 5-6 years. One component of working out is pleasant music (playlist ) to enhance, sooth, and motivate one's exercising routine. The VASA playlist is terrible. There is absolutely no variation to the single-beat, lyric-lacking, boring rap-reading paragraphs. VASA has the option to select music from the last 100 years, and this is all you can present to you working-out membership? The equipment is not being maintained properly. There are MULTIPLE workout stations posted for "we're working on it",....several units have been in disrepair for over two months (squad station. treadmills, and stair steppers,...just to name a few). The men's bathroom sink is always very dirty. The soap dispenser do not work on a regular basis, and one of the three urinals has not worked for over a month. This reflects poor management, poor oversight in your business (presentation, presentation is always key), and is very suggestive of financial discontinuity of the ownership. Your priority is not to dismantle the biking room and put in what?,...more equipment that you already don't maintain?
One reaps what one sows, business-wise. Just a thought.

I canceled my membership in the app back when that feature was available. After they changed the app, my cancellation apparently didn’t “count,” and my account was never closed. I have emails showing I canceled, yet I was still charged and then sent to debt collection. When I reached out, customer service was dismissive and rude, and refused to acknowledge the proof I provided. This has been stressful and unfair. Do better for longtime customers and honor app-based cancellations that were completed before your changes.

If you are an early morning person like me. I'd find another gym. They advertise as being open at 0400 but they rarely are.
None of the employees shows up to open the gym until 5am or later. This happens multiple time throughout the week.
If you are a daytime or even a person just be prepared that the gym is going to be slammed with tons of people, absurdly over crowded.
Most of the staff is friendly and courteous and attentive during banker hours. The trainers are a little rude and flirtatious with women, especially the short little dude with the stupid broom mustache. Great way to make females uncomfortable.
The equipment is decent but patrons rarely wipe things down. The weightlifting pads are falling apart and are a bit treacherous.
Its definitely a step up from planet fitness next door, but its not much of a step. Maybe a baby step.
If they had a better staff the overall experience would be better.
Ill probably cancel my membership at the end of the year.

As of Nov 10th. Ellen called me at 7pm claiming to have cancled my membership due to this review and my opinions.
Our Thompson Road location is Disgusting & falling apart more and more. We dont have a working facility that anyone can focus on health and recovery. Dirty and broken environment is not only my opinion it is other customers (approx 14,000 at this location) view of facts they are paying you to experience.
VASA Corporate I have made you guys aware of these concerns and many employees through Paramount, and other management since April 25' about the facilities ever worsening state.
Tristan hung up the phone on Paramount and I when I was asking when all these repairs would be finished? Your management?

1. The showers in the mens locker room! Just shut it down, this is Ghetto. Attached photos. Missing shower doors(3) Zero soap boxes in all showers stalls. The stalls with doors are out of order. The showers are growing mold also as if I needed to mention.
Broken TVS all across the facility. Even in the main Room no sports no nothing. TV in mens locker room is just removed wires hanging out.
Our lockers themselves need cleaning maintenance inside the boxes🤢The benches and countertop are deep stained wuth oily black prints from high volume of people (approx 14,000) and zero cleaning maintenance.
The swimsuit drying machine thats spin drys people's underwear and shorts smells from the other side of the room. It can be smelled over the gases of a man in the bathroom with a high protein diet. Nope not putting my genitals close to clothes that were dried in that box that is never cleaned with bleach.
Fans never seem to work in all of the facility. No proof other than they are never on.
The cardio equipment is growing new colonies of bacteria from ages of sweat and dirt and all-around. There are bolts from equipment falling apart laying on the ground showing facts that no one has cleaned or maintained since at least April 25'.
The Hot Tub that was broken since April 25' is now operational as of Oct 25' when I visited it was not hot:/ and the water level was belly button height very low.
Simply a horrible return experience since I left Thompson Rd in April of 25' for our better managed location on the Westside.
I couldn't take a shower after to warm up and clean the water and sweat on my body just horrible.
The sauna is down also SMH. The paint in the pool area is peeling so bad its gonna fall on someone soon. The mold growing in your drywall has spread Im sure by now with all the steam and vapor daily. I suggest to Install an exhaust fan/fans and then repaint our rooms please.
The pool ceiling is rusting so bad the ceiling is Brown now. We already had a huge HVAC ducting fall on someone in the pool mid summer on a windy day due to rust. When wil they address the maintenance?
There's numerous pieces of gym equipment needing attention. Smh.
The Recovery room well they took all the water jet beds away. Didn't replace all the units. Maybe half the chairs were replaced leaving the whole room half empty. Currently the available chairs there are also broken.
Leaving 1-3 actual available chairs.
VASA please get our Thompson Rd location back to us in a clean & fully functioning order. There are so many other clients who have the same experiences. Some have left. Some were foreigners who spread this news.

Do not go to this gym , it is a scam!! You need to pay extra even to use other parts of gym. They do the random checks on people and if you paid basic they will throw you out from that area. And don't even get me started on billing or ending membership, it is terrible, they will try to fork out as much as possible. Support Local businesses.

I visited the gym recently to inquire about a membership and unfortunately, my experience with one of the staff members ( Leslie ) was disappointing. I simply wanted information about a basic membership but she was dismissive and came across as quite rude while explaining unnecessary details about other areas and upgrades I didn’t ask for. It felt unprofessional and unwelcoming. I expected a more respectful and helpful approach especially when someone is considering joining the gym.

I have been a member of vasa since 2020 and I have attended four separate locations In both Colorado and Indiana.
Unfortunately, this is by far the most disgusting gym I’ve ever been a member of and that includes my high school locker room.
Showers have never been cleaned and have mold.
The steam room has mold.
The hot tub Is closed three out of four days of the week because it has turned yellow or green.
The water fountain backed up the other day with a brown liquid.
Equipment is constantly broken.
The men’s locker room smells rancid.
Corporate needs to send a representative to this location so they can see how much they have devalued the brand. I am switching to crunch fitness

I’ve had multiple gym memberships throughout the years and this place is my least favorite. The main problem is it’s just to crowded it’s hard to work out a specific muscle group because machines you plan to use are almost always taken. The sauna is not hot enough and the steam room is just gross in my opinion so if that’s a selling point for you I’d look elsewhere. My wife enjoys the gym because she likes the pool ,and the massage chairs if it wasn’t for her I’d never go here.

Men's showers half of them are broken The other half the grout is disgusting color there's mold mildew in larger shower. The hydro bed massages are gone the massage chairs are okay not as good. The hot tub isn't hot. The locker I used was scuzzy. Men's locker room is missing a TV that was there and it's now replaced by a dusty hole. The steam and sauna work well. There's only one tanning bed but there was nobody in line for it today. Staff had good energy.

Edit: I really enjoy the classes. The instructors are all really friendly and care that you get the most from your workout. I double up by doing Hiit then Yoga everytime I go and it's been awesome.
Started going in October 2024. The staff are friendly and very helpful when I have questions. The classes are a great option when you want something different for your workout. I would say the biggest con is the over-crowding. It's difficult to use the weighted machines or free weights unless you go in at the early hours. They would do better to open another location maybe in the Southport area. The facility, services, and price options are great which is why they get a lot of business.

I had never been to a vasa before and was here visiting. I love the concept, Krista, my instructor, for my class was absolutely amazing with awesome energy, and I’m an instructor as well! So my critique is probably higher than others, but she was absolutely amazing and the gym was awesome. I hope one day VASA will be in Texas.!

While visiting the gym, I interacted with the manager, Leslie. During our conversation she spoke to my friend and me in a dismissive tone. I also observed her addressing her coworkers in a similarly rude and discourteous manner. Always busy and everyone’s always filming, which was less than ideal but whatever. However, my final straw was them closing the studio room for personal use which was a big selling point for me when I toured and joined. Now I’m looking at canceling my membership and I am 1 going to be charged $25 for canceling within 6 months and 2 have to give them 30 days notice. I would not recommend this gym and wish I never joined. Take your business elsewhere and save yourself the trouble.

This gym is not worth a membership not only are the employees and the superiors letting the customers walk all over them and the customers also put up their work out stuff without cleaning it . As well as as not respecting a shared gym alot of regulations should be put in place in a shared space. This place is a last resort gym for a low income if you want to possibly catch a bacterial infection you should try here . FYI if you work somewhere where you have to uphold the rules and enforce them do it. I know it's sucks but if you aren't cut out to do this the maybe it's time for you to find a new career. As a retired Army veteran, I’ve trained in all kinds of environments with good and bad equipment—so I understand that machines wear down when used constantly. Yes, equipment issues happen, but your body needs rest, and so do the machines. The key is looking at the bigger picture: the people, the atmosphere, and the results.
I enrolled at VASA about a year ago, and it’s been life changing. When I joined, I wasn’t in my best shape. I just wanted to feel good, look good, and live healthier. From the moment I toured the gym with Coach MO (hopefully I spelled his name correctly), I knew this was the right place. Studio Red pushes me to my limits, Studio Flow helps me reset and refocus with the assistance of Coach Brandi and other great coaches who I can’t spell their names at this time. The pool, both hot rooms, hot tub (when working) and other areas are great additions.
But the real game-changer for me has been my coach, Sophie Pohlabel. At first, I underestimated her, thinking training with her would be easy. I was wrong—Coach Sophie pushed me harder than I thought possible, while still keeping it fun and encouraging. She tracks my progress closely, knows the equipment inside and out, and always challenges me to go beyond what I thought I could do. When I feel like I’m done, she reminds me, “You’ve got this”—and somehow, I always do.
Coach Sophie is smart, motivating, and deeply invested in her clients. She knows when to push, when to encourage, and how to get the most out of every session. She’s not just a trainer; she’s a coach in every sense of the word. Because of her, I leave each session stronger, tried in a good way, more confident, and ready for the next step.
Yes, VASA has its flaws, but the people—coaches like Coach Sophie, the staff who keep the energy positive, and members encouraging each other—make this gym stand out. At the end of the day, your results come from what you put in, and VASA gives me everything I need to succeed.

Broken cardio machines are always broken, hot tub smells like mildew and just gross, staff was more likely to being chit chatting then answering questions(no big deal people should chat and sit but if I say excuse me 3 times someone should answer) so I decided to use the gym through my work. While cancelling they charge you $25 extra. Okay whatever. NOPE. Because there are “dues” and you cancel within 30 days they are going to charge me $75 for the next month and the dues. But I can’t use the facilities during that time. So they are charging me more than double for nothing. Read the fine print. If you cancel they’ll basically charge you for 3 extra months.
Btw I’m cancelling on 9/11/25.

Kris (coach) always makes everyone's day with her smile, warm persona, and fitness advice. She is also uncannily strong, like some sort of nuclear mutant of strength 😂 and knows what she is doing.

Thompson Vasa is amazing, I’ve been going there for 5 years now and it’s kept in pretty good shape throughout the time I’ve been there. Especially the customer service, someone I’d like to reward is Raegan Thomas. She is very friendly and helpful with any questions about the gym. And I literally see this girl cleaning ALL the time. Vasa has become a home away from home for me. I workout there daily. The Studio Red classes and Studio Flow classes are favorites. I love the efficiency of Studio Red; I enjoy the variety of the exercises in the classes and being able to hit cardio and strength all in the same session.

I've been a member at VASA since they first opened and stayed loyal for years. The gym has always been crowded, the bathrooms have never been well maintained, and often treadmills are down and dumbbells are missing. I previously looked over these issues and referred several people to the gym. However recently It feels like management has changed, and instead of focusing on improving the gym, the new staff are tasked with hassling members about their memberships. The only bright spot has been the longtime staff who were always friendly and helpful, but sadly most of them seem to be gone now. Overall, the atmosphere and experience just aren’t what they used to be. Hopefully, as longtime customers continue to cancel their memberships, VASA will start appreciating both the members they’ve lost and the new customers they want to bring in.

They have everything you’d want equipment-wise, but since opening, have not maintained the facilities. Machines continue to break down without getting fixed—like half of the cardio machines are down and have BEEN down. There’s holes all over the walls that don’t get repaired. Wood panels that have been missing on the wall for almost a year and still not replaced. The floor is gross, there’s hair all up in the astro turf. The locker room is grossssss, I wouldn’t even consider showering in there or having my shoes off period. Seeing the complete lack of maintenance and repair is making me actually consider switching gyms. Planet Fitness outranks this gym by far.

The location in beechgrove is a waste of time, they have sold so many memberships, you can't even workout in a timely manner. Joined about a month ago, I have tried several different times during the day and different days and every time I have gone, it's so crowded, there isn't even parking spots to park in. I'll be looking for another gym and canceling my membership as soon as I can find a different place to go. The gym it's self isn't too bad but it's not meeting my needs because of over selling of memberships.

It amazes me how long equipment will be out of order here. This morning, I attempted to use the Incline Trainer Treadmill. This is a specialized piece of equipment and there are only 5 of them. One was out of order, 3 were being used and the 5th was open. Unfortunately, the the Incline motor wasn't working. I reported it to the staff and one of them came over, tested it and confirmed it was malfunctioning. So, I hopped on a regular treadmill. While I was training, other people tried to use the broken machine. After my training, I asked them to put an out of order tag on it so others don't waste their time. He informed me that, since it still turned on, it wasn't technically out of order and they couldn't tag it.
The locker rooms are even worse. Dirty, smelly and drain flies everywhere.
I've been a member here for a long time. I hope management gets serious about maintaining this facility so it doesn't end up like LA Fitness.

I've been coming to Emerson/Thompson Rd VASA for a year now. I've had issues with them auto pay/ billing me incorrectly, extra $50 membership fee and y not charge her double in one month. Customer service says they'll refund ur card...never happened. Today....today......I walk into a empty locker. Manager coldly says Their cutting locks and saying they're montering lockers. We toss it. Never heard this in 1year I've been coming here. NEVER!! Signs are posted she says happily. I lost everything and they could of least left a note...nothing. We pay ur paycheck and this is the respect ur loyal customers are to you!!! Beware!!!

Very friendly staff. My issues the fact that there’s only a few working cardio machines and the other parts of the gym are overly packed it’s almost impossible to even get on a machine, or find a space with free weights to get a workout in. It’s so frustrating! I’m currently waiting to get my membership downgraded so that I can find another gym for the weekdays. I assumed due to summer that’s why there was so many young adults and people but it’s not gotten any better. I’ve actually noticed in the recent weeks It’s actually gotten worse. Especially when I’m driving 25 minutes to come to the gym and not able to get on a machine because the few that work are occupied.

VASA might look impressive from the outside, but it’s a total letdown once you step in. Nearly half the treadmills and stair masters are either out of order or barely functioning. Good luck getting a solid cardio session in without playing musical chairs with busted equipment.
Easily the worst gym experience I’ve had. For the price, it’s unacceptable — poor maintenance, zero accountability, and not worth a dime. Take your money to Crunch Fitness or any other gym nearby. Avoid VASA at all costs.

This place is going downhill fast. I joined last October and was so glad. Really enjoy the business being open during the hours convenient for (ME). Then I noticed a change starting in March '25. The shower head in the handicapped shower in the men's facilities was broken...so it barely hangs on. I let the workers at the front desk know and they said they would tell maintenance about it. A week later it still wasn't fixed so I told a different person. That's when it all started to make sense. They said the maintenance person didn't work there any longer. Not long after the pool was shut down, then the hot tub for a couple of days. About a week later both were shut down, for a whole week. They came back online but now the hot tub is again shut down while the pool is open. This place is really reeling. Oh and BTW...back in March someone had left a huge mess laying over the drain in the handicapped stall. I think you can fig that out.

I have been a member for a year!!! I absolutely love this gym! Best decision I have made for me in a long time. The amenities are absolutely wonderful. The staff is great! Very helpful and friendly. They are inviting but not annoyingly in your face! The parking sucks but who cares what do you expect when it's such a great place to be! Of course we all want to be here! I am working with a personal trainer, He is so wonderful! He pushes me the way I need to be and cheers me on to not give up! He's positive and knows when I need a break! If you are getting back into shape or just starting out I highly suggest signing up for a personal trainer. The classes are amazing! The Flow studio!! Wow! Haven't tried the red hit classes yet but eventually I will. Love, love, love this place! Update: They have added a BARRE Class to the schedule and the class is amazing! Really fun and low impact if needed for all capabilities!!! Please get on the App and come check it out! Also, something that has changed is when you sign up for yoga or red hit you are immediately prompted to select your spot in the rooms so no more cards to grab from the front desk which is nice and convenient!!

Funny thing, when I first signed up, my pass code was used by other ppl (pretty sure the guy that signed me up passed the extra key tags to his friends). I learned about it because my tracked visits were showing that I checked in 2 to 3 times per day (often while I was at work). Had to get my account changed to where I couldn't even use a key tag.
Awfully nice of a business to allow random ppl to use your paid membership but not let you cancel without a fight!
The sauna and steam room always smelled horrid. The pool was always gross. And by the time I quit going, the hot tub was no longer working. (I'm not sure if any of that stuff is even there anymore.) The shower curtains were all molded, and there was no way to lock yourself in the shower area. In other words, while you are naked in the shower, someone could easily steal your stuff.
I think I would have made a better investment in a home gym.

Paula is an amazing instructor! I had a pure barre membership prior to her barre class and cancelled it shortly after attending. Even though there isn’t an actual bar she was able to create the same exercises using chairs and different equipment. Very creative and no two classes have been exactly the same which keeps it fun and fresh each week (:
Vasa as a whole is a great gym from their high quality equipment to unique amenities and unbeatable price point. My membership is $25 a month, which is able to get me at least 11 classes during week that work with my schedule. (They have more than that of course.)
Needless to say I am so glad I joined Vasa, my only complaint that I’ve noticed is that they are a lot busier than most gyms, but even with them being busy you are still likely to find a spot. With that being said though, there are a lot of influencers recording themselves during their workout and getting myself and others in the background of their video.
Otherwise I absolutely love it and am looking forward to continuing my membership!

Here we are months later and no change. Mold in the bathrooms, dirty equipment that is aging. Fitness classes so loud you cannot concentrate. Especially the water aerobics class. Why does the music and the instructors have to be as load as a rock concert. Hire a janitor, buy some paint. I love ya but if this relationship is going to work we need some upgrades. Why am I paying for premium membership when the premium items are always broken? Hot tub, steam room ect. Literal poop in the showers today. Planet fitness is looking better everyday.

She was absolutely awesome and really worked alongside with what I was capable of and pushed me when I needed it most. If you need a personal trainer I would highly recommend her! I have been going to Vasa and doing personal training with Julian for about 5 months now and I am so happy! The facility is great and the people are wonderful. I can’t say enough about how great Julian is. He pushes me to do things I didn’t think I could do and encourages me. He’s always got new things for me to try and it’s so fun to work with him. He’s so knowledgeable and could train anybody but he meets me right where I am in my fitness journey. He helps keep me motivated and sends me workouts to do between our appointments so I am seeing great results! Training with him and going to Vasa for the last 5 months has done so much for my mental and physical health. I’d give it and him 100 stars if I could.

If you're planning on going here for the sauna or steam id recommend finding another gym. The steam room is broken every other week, and the sauna can barley get above 150, they haven't changed the rocks in over 2 years. They need a whole new machine at this point.

I love the classes but the sauna is a deal breaker for me. It smells like rotten hamburger and dirty butt. Can’t be healthy to breath in and almost made me puke. Also it is shared with men/women. It just smells so bad. That is very important in a gym membership to me so back to la fitnesses fresh smelling teak wood sauna I go! It stinks so bad that it is a deal breaker for sure. I left a class the other day and the gym smelled like weed really bad too.

I'm not usually the type to leave reviews, but I believe in giving credit where it's due. VASA has consistently impressed me—not just with its top-notch equipment, but with the professionalism and integrity of its staff.
During my last visit, I witnessed something that truly stood out. While waiting for a friend to finish his workout, I was sitting near the coolers when I saw a younger man aggressively berating a fellow gym member over a tanning bed issue. The woman clearly didn’t want to engage and looked uncomfortable, but the guy wouldn’t let up.
What really struck me was how a staff member calmly stepped in to defuse the situation. He approached it with a level-headed, neutral attitude—trying to de-escalate without taking sides. Despite facing verbal aggression from the irate member, the staffer remained composed and professional. Honestly, most people in that room probably wanted to say something, but he handled it better than any of us could have.
I wish I had caught his name so I could recognize him properly. All I know is that he’s a young guy with dreadlocks, and he absolutely deserves a shoutout for how he handled himself. On the flip side, I also wish I knew the name of the guy causing the scene—he deserves the opposite.

They will not cancel when your ready to cancel. Then they send you to collections. Then when you call them they say they can't help you anymore. It has been 2 years and they are still trying to charge me. I have cancelled in person, thru the app, over the phone, with a letter. Had to get rid of my checking account and they sent me to collections. DO NOT GO HERE- and the response from them below is "we understand this can be frustrating". Maybe just cancel the account and stop billing someone when they ask and it would not be so frustrating, I do not owe any money, the account should have been cancelled 2 years ago when I asked it to be cancelled!! Again DO NOT GO HERE - Very poor customer service.

I joined a couple months ago and I’ve come to find things are constantly broken (despite this facility being fairly new) and very little efforts are made to fix them. A third of the hydromassagers were out of order last time I was there along with multiple machines that have been out of order since I’ve joined. Now the pool is closed “until further notice” and when you inquire about when it will be fixed staff act like you’re an inconvenience or are extremely rude. An employee named Yuri said “well what do you want me to do about it?” and “Do YOU want to fix it?” after I said how unfair it was to those of us who purchased our membership to use the pool. I specifically pay more for the “fitness” membership to use the pool due to health issues that prevent me from using most of the other equipment most of the time and now I’m unable to use the membership that I pay for and they charge you a fee to cancel within the first 6 month of your membership so I can’t just cancel and join another gym despite the fact that it’s their fault I can’t use my membership. Don’t make the same mistake I did. This place is a scam and you’d probably be better off anywhere else.

Time to write another review… I’ve been coming here for nearly 2 years now. This gym is pathetic. Half the equipment is always broken/out of service. Why is there no cleaning staff keeping the gym maintained? There is way too many members at this gym for there to be no staff cleaning around the clock. All the treadmills, half of them skip or say out of service. Why is there no in site tech to maintain things… I could go on but the only thing keeping me from switching to planet fitness is the barbell bench press and squat racks and dead lift platforms

I’ve emailed 3 times in the past requesting support for various things. They never respond. So don’t act like you’re interested in engaging with customers now that I left a 1*.
Reba was the best part of Vasa. Her getting fired was unbelievable. It hasn’t been the same since. Also, the treadmills are awful. Every one of them slips and is falling apart. Get new equipment once every couple decades.

Terrible service and a scam. Signed up for a personal trainer and wanted to cancel since it wasn’t to what we expected. They didn’t let us cancel for the whole one year and had to pay the full price. You cannot cancel in person and have to go through the app. They put many obstacles in place to prevent you from cancelling though. I had to provide my member number as well as my club ID to cancel, which was nowhere to be found on the app. After sitting on the phone for customer service for half an hour I was finally able to get through and get that information… the number was 1044, I don’t know if that specific to the Indy location or if it works for all of them, but maybe that could save someone else the time.
In addition, they forced me to pay the $50 annual fee upon cancellation, even though I am weeks from that due date, on top of the monthly $20 fee. Terrible customer service, would not recommend!
