We have had the best experience with Anytime Fitness in Johnston. Alex and Matt have been so welcoming and continue to make sure everything is going well for our fitness journey. We are so glad we choose AF over one of the bigger health clubs.

I’m sorry but this is starting to tick me off. Every time I go in there they are friendly and all but they do nothing but sit on their butt and the place is disgusting. All the vents have black dust coating them, the A/C barely works cause I bet you the filter has never been changed once in years.

The bathrooms are disgusting there is crud all over the tile under all the hand dryers, there is built up crud around the door handles so they obviously don’t care to wipe those off periodically. All the equipment is full of dust and hair or it’s all sweaty cause people only bother to wipe down the seats (which frankly it shouldn’t be their job to clean the equipment anyway other than the seat)

This is a legit health issue and people are going to get sick breathing this crap in. I worked at planet fitness years ago so I know how easy of a job it is and we still cleaned the gym like there is no excuse for this at all. Do better it’s pathetic…

Decent equipment but Alex definitely gave some attitude when trying to cancel. She didn’t try to understand that I was canceling due to medical needs + seemed annoyed. I get that management needs high membership numbers but was really apathetic and borderline rude when trying to work with her. I’ve seen other comments about this, too.

Big fan of this location; I'm always able to get a workout in over my lunch hour and it's not a headache trying to get the machines or equipment I'd like to use. Both Alex and Matt have been extremely helpful when needed, responsive to my questions and needs, and overall friendly in my interactions. It's nice to have friendly faces around and it's a great atmosphere to work out in.

I absolutely love the Anytime Fitness center in Johnston! The location is perfect, with plenty of space and a wide variety of equipment to suit any workout. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, always ready to assist or just share a smile. I also appreciate the flexible hours, which make it easy to fit a workout into my busy schedule. Most importantly, the no-judgment atmosphere creates a welcoming environment for everyone. Highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for a great place to stay active

We were in the area today so we decided to check out this location. Today is Sunday and we visited at 11am. Upon entering, I did feel like it was really cramped...and far too dim. Maybe someone turned the lights down?

A lot of the machines are back-to-back. And, I don't just mean they're close--they're touching. The chest press machine was situated against two other machines. The seat on the chest press machine does not raise up either. My boyfriend even had trouble moving it.

I think it's nice that they have the studio space for some freestyle workouts. Still pretty small. There were 2 people using the studio at the same time. They didn't seem like they had enough space to stretch out. I can't imagine many more people present.

There are some pre-moistened wipes at a few cleaning stations. Other stations have spray bottles and paper towels.

The Evolt body comp. machine costs $30 here. All the other locations have it for free. Definitely one of my least favorite Anytime locations.

It's a Great Neighborhood gym that's clean and has everything you need for a good workout. The staff (Coach Deb and Hannah) are friendly and helpful and always greet you with a smile. Personal training and Group Instructor led workouts are available. I presently participate in instructor led workouts with Coach Deb. She is energetic and professional and uses a variety of exercises and weight training with an emphasis on technique. I have been coming to this Anytime Fitness for many years and plan to continue for many more.

Went here for over a year and called to cancel because I had to move out of state. They told me I had to go in and sign some paperwork, I tried going in three separate days and no one was working. Issued a stop payment on my card because I was busy and didn't have time to deal with it. Two months later my roommate gets a text that he owes them $150 for the past two months that neither of us had been there a single time. He called and they said they would close it for $70, not wanting to deal with something affecting his credit score he just bit the bullet and paid it.

The kicker? They didn't actually require anything to be signed because they did it over the phone. They don't really care about the customer they just care about getting another months dues.

I used to recommend this as a great beginner gym but not after this.

The managers are to focused on making dumb pointless common sense videos rather then keeping the gym clean and making sude members are cleaning their nasty sweat off equipment after use. I wish i could contact the owner so he knew how bad his gym is being poorly handled.

Of the many anytime fitness gyms I've gone to over my last ten years of membership, the Johnston one is definitely within the top 3. The gym is very spacious and has all the equipment you could want and need. They even have the personal workout room with personal fitness classes available at the touch of a button! This gym is usually very clean and the owners are friendly and responsive. The only reason I give 4 not stars is because the bathrooms are sometimes dirty and because the tv channels available on the cardio machines are very limited. Would definitely recommend this gym to any and everyone!

I have been consistently working out in gyms for the last 25 years. I traveled for work almost every week for 17 years so I have been in hundreds of gyms across the country and would rank the Anytime Fitness location in Johnston in the top 3 as far as cleanliness, functional equipment, nice members and friendly staff. I am in the Johnston Anytime Fitness location several days a week and I can honestly say almost every time I am there, the manager is cleaning something. I have no idea where "Golf Nut" comes up with this gym as dirty. A dust bunny falls on him? Really, if that is what he considers horribly dirty then I suggest he buys his own gym and eradicates all the "dust bunnies" himself.

Every gym has members that sometimes don't clean up after themselves or don't put their equipment away after using it but the employees can't follow every member around waiting for them to do something wrong (and who wants that anyway?). I have been going to this gym 5 plus years and can tell you the current ownership and management is head and shoulders above the previous ownership/management.

Please come to this gym and see for yourself, you won't be disappointed!

I don't know how anyone can review this place as clean. I left and went to another area Anytime Fitness because this place is dirty. I have been back a few times because it is close to my home and it just gets more congested and is still dirty. The straw that broke the camels back was when I went in and took a shower after a work out and as I exited the shower while wet, a roughly 2 inch by 2 inch by 3/4 inch dust bunny fell down on me. If you think the place is so clean, just look up. Also, the last time I was in, I noticed no-one wipes off there machines after working out. In fact the gentleman next to me on another elliptical, after over a 30 minute workout, he took his sweat towel he was wiping himself off with and used that to wipe off the machine. That sure cleaned it. So no, this is not a clean facilities.

Clean, plenty of room, and run by a nice staff/ownership. I chose this one over the southern Ankeny location because it also doesn't have any mean mugging meatheads.
I'm pretty much 40 and not trying to impress anyone (besides my wife). Just feel good and be healthier.
The environment in Johnston promotes this very nicely. The extra 10 minute drive is worth it for my zen time.
