Loved attending adult Ninja class here. Spencer does an incredible job of catering to everyone which is difficult given the wide array of fitness and comfort levels. Emerge provided a great atmosphere to exercise, make friends, and be encouraged-all for very reasonable prices compared to other gyms. I can no longer attend because I moved but miss class and everyone dearly.

Edited updated review (original below): My original review I was going back and forth a lot with the front desk person (who no longer works there) and not the owner, I did then go back and forth with the owner after a bit but in the end he did get my account credited some and refunded the old account and charged a new card. It looks like since then if you don’t respond to an email confirming booking they don’t automatically charge the account or have your kid in the class but instead they just skip and go to the next kid so that fixes the previous issue I had (though I do think they should text/call too before skipping not sure if they do that too or not) My twins are six now, and we’re going to give it another go. The facility is nice and I like how the owner personally reaches out. I do wish the back area was a bit more 6-7 year old friendly, it does come off intimidating to beginners or at least my kids. Needs color or something as my girls are saying it’s scary, but twins also feed off each other. Will update rating again after we are in the class for a bit to see how it goes.

Original review below: My twins attempted a class with me with them in the 2 year old class for months and they still never became okay with it (too loud, not enough rapport with instructors). So took a break for 2 years and then asked about rejoining and asked if they could participate in a class that would be more their developmental speed (all via email) and they responded my kids could so I said we’ll take the spots and then I never saw a response from them again about start date or what card they would use til a week later I see the payment taken out of my account on a card I no longer use as the original account was 2 years old. At this point now they already charged for 2 months as we missed one week since I never received notice of a start date or at least seen it and the second week was canceled due to weather and it was the ending of the month so they charged for the following month. Now they won’t refund the balance on that card and take it out on another card for I have absolutely no reason why. I never authorized the payments on the last card and I had to pay for a whole month we didn’t even get to attend?! However what really triggered me was the front desk lady I was emailing said I saw the email and opened it, but I didn’t, I sent a screenshot of it showing unopened and it was in my junk for some reason, we had two threads and I think she confused it with the other email that I had opened; I asked for proof of me opening the email with the start date and billing but never received that.

If you want your child to be excited and love gymnastics, then I would NOT recommend this facility. The staff is not customer service friendly at all. They dont care about the children or their parents concerns.

This place is beyond unprofessional, my nephew was attending and an instructor went as far as to call my nephew slow (which is 3 years old). DO NOT GO HERE.

Decent place for older kids to train but there is limited space for small children. The young workers don’t really supervise the children all that well. The ninja warrior obstacle course is pretty cool though!

My boys love gymnastics and ninja at Emerge.
They are growing in mental and physical strength, as well as having fun and making friends. The coaches are all super encouraging and the staff is friendly. Would 100% recommend!

The facility is nice, however, I would never recommend sending your child here as they foster a bullying environment. They act like they care about your child's well-being to your face, but they clearly have favorites - even Spencer, the owner. Those few favorites can get away with anything. Some of the coaching staff are very unprofessional as well. I would strongly advise any parent to think twice before enrolling their child here so your family doesn't have to go through what my family has went through.

Emerge hosted our kids birthday party. It was an amazing experience! Great communication before the event and during. They had 2 hosts that helped with the kids on the equipment and took them between rooms. Would definitely recommend hosting a party at Emerge. Thank you!

One of the better options in the area.

The facility is very nice, probably top 2.

The quality of instruction is quite good but during the classes we tried, some of the kids were not kept on task very well for large periods of time.

There's a lot of potential here, and if your kids generally stay on task this could be a great fit for you.

Emerge Academy is an amazing place! They have everything from beginners gymnastics for little kids all the way up to competitive level for kids looking to be collegiate or Olympic athletes! They also have Ninja Warrior for all ages and skill levels which is really cool! They even do birthday parties and other events in their space. The coaches are all great and very knowledgeable. Spencer, the owner is a former professional gymnast and knows how to coach kids up to a very high level. His athletes’ performance speaks for itself. Spencer and his wife Katie run a great, family focused business. Highly recommend signing your kids up at Emerge Academy, you won’t regret it!

Staff refused to allow for anyone masked to participate. Stated reason was for breathing safety. After two years of societal masking its hard to understand why there is still such a misconception around masking and oxygen flow and/or safety. Case in point, some Olympic athletes recently played masked.

We love Emerge Academy! All the coaches here are very professional. My two kids love it here, and they are growing so much. Spencer is a great guy who not only teaches excellent gymnastics, but he is a great role model for my boy as well! I especially appreciate that Spencer is a man of God who prays with our kids before every meet! Thank you Emerge for all of your hard work, and dedication to these kids! God bless you all!

We could not be happier with the team at emerge. Especially Coach Spencer. When your child spends majority of their school year in the classroom and then directly to gymnastics you pray that the influence on their lives is a good one and that is exactly what this has been!!!! He pours more into them than just gymnastics and technique! We are thankful for this gym!!!!!!!

We switched gyms a little over a year ago. Best decision of our life!
My son has thrived so much here , he looks forward to attending practice everyday and is actually disappointment when he doesn’t have class.
There are so many wonderful qualities that are being installed into my son, like teamwork, strong work ethic, leadership skills, and so much more.
We look forward to how he will continue to grow at Emerge as an athlete and as a person.

My son was told he couldn't participate in a class here through his day care while wearing his face mask. WOW.

My daughter has done gymnastics at another gym for years and - guess what - works just fine to participate in a mask. In fact, they encourage it.

Glad to have options!

I recently expressed disappointment with a class due to too many kids in a class and some other distracting kids. I was not the only other parent that complained about this matter and the person that called me, Spencer, spoke kindly and confirmed that they would handle it. We worked out a solution to have private lessons for one of my children and my other younger child would continue to attend the group class.

When I requested a partial credit for the two dissatisfied classes for my older child, I was denied. Not only was I was going to stay and pay for more expensive services, my other child was still remaining in the group class. I understand the policy if we would have left Emerge but this situation was completely different. I paid for a service that I did not receive and I was denied reimbursement. We ended up pulling our kids from Emerge and my kids, husband and I are very disappointed in how this was handled.

“Fair across the board” was a common phrase that was expressed by Spencer. Fair is not a term that a supervisor should ever use. Fair is a subjective term that varies from individual to individual and it adds no value to a solution. This fair phrase should be replaced to instead find an immediate solution. Stating, “We’ll discuss this at our next meeting” again never solves an immediate issue.

They had a fundraiser car wash to benefit their athletes today at Lowe's in West Des Moines. What a poised and talented group of young people. Very impressed with them and the adult helpers. There were some demonstrations of their skills while advertising the car wash. It was really nice to support their efforts. It's like my Jeep had a spa day! Thanks again! Looking forward to your next fundraiser!

Practically the only full gym available to adults in the entirety of the Des Moines area and its suburban communities.

As for the kids, the ones that need pushing will be pushed (competitive classes) and the ones that are there to have a good time will have a good time (recreational classes) - know what you are signing them up for. The coaches are professionals.

The gym is sanitized frequently, with a safe, non-toxic, green anti-microbial, and the viewing area is quite awesome for parents to watch without being too much of a distraction to the kids.

The ninja equipment is regularly maintained for structural integrity and the courses cycle through so that the obstacles don't become obsolete / boring.

This review is 100% based off of observations I've made as I regularly come to open gyms.

Emerge has such great facilities for both Ninja and Gymnastics. We've been with several other gymnastics groups and the knowledge, facilities and professionalism of the team at Emerge is second-to-none. The coaches are very supportive and are helpful with questions and any personalized coaching our sons need. Highly recommend!

This business would be well served to put clear & concise driving directions on their web site. The "about us" section of their site shows them in Missouri, and Google Maps places them on a road that doesn't even exist.
