Fitness World in Ankeny is hands down the best Ankeny gym I have ever been to. The facilities are clean, welcoming, and packed with everything you need, whether you are just starting your fitness journey or looking to take it to the next level. The staff is always friendly, and the atmosphere makes it easy to stay motivated.
A special shoutout to Rachel, the personal trainer. She takes the time to understand your goals, designs effective workouts, and keeps you accountable while making fitness fun. Her expertise and encouragement make a huge difference, and I have seen results faster than I expected.

Best gym in Ankeny! Always clean, equipment breakdowns are fixed promptly, I LOVE the steam room, and being able to drop the kids off in the Kid's Gym for some supervised fun while getting a workout in is something I don't think I could do without now that I've had it.

I’ve been going here for over a year now. The facility and the equipment are great. The staff are welcoming and do an excellent job of keeping the gym clean and organized. Tyler Schmidt has been my personal trainer and I HIGHLY recommend him. Tyler makes our training sessions an excellent work out and he keeps them fun. His training knowledge is informative and helpful for understanding how to do the exercise/lift and why it benefits you. Really appreciate the hard work he puts in designing my fitness regimen!

I can't recommend John enough! As someone who was looking for help with my posture, chronic back pain, and specialized guidance during pregnancy, I was blown away by how much he went above and beyond. Not only did he tailor my workouts to fit my needs, but he also extended knowledge on myofascial release techniques that helped ease my discomfort. I felt completely supported throughout my entire journey, and John was always so attentive, caring, and informed. I can’t comment much on the actual gym but I can say (as many of the other reviews have also stated) that seeing John Orscheln / or as many call him, John O. as a personal trainer has been life changing. John takes the time to help you understand how using the fundamentals along with the correct muscles and proper form throughout your workout makes a world of difference. He has helped relieve my aches and pains from educating me on how to address the actual issue which has removed the need for chiropractic or massage therapy for quick fixes. Personal training is an investment but with John it is an investment on a better you; not just someone writing down steps for you to do in a workout. This experience is tailored to you and I would recommend John to anyone from my grandmother to my best friend.

Personal training with John Orscheln is one of the most beneficial health investment I’ve made. When I first started working with him I was a little dubious since my prior experience with a personal trainer (several years ago at a different fitness facility) was not very helpful at all. Because of that but knowing that I needed some help improving the effectiveness of my workouts, I decided to commit to three months of training with him with a primary goal of learning as much as I could in that time and then continuing on my own.
During my initial sessions, John spent time assessing my areas of need and then tailored my workouts to address those specific needs. His persistence on perfecting my form helped create improvements very quickly. In those first few months, my workouts helped me gain strength, corrected imbalances, and reduced aches and pains which improved my sleep quality.
Due to the benefits and improvements that I experienced during my personal training sessions with John, I strongly recommend visiting with him to discuss your fitness goals.

My wife and I trained with John O shortly after we moved to Polk City from the Quad Cities. We had several trainers back in the QC but none as credentialed and experienced as John. Our focus was on our cores and stretching to stay strong and mobile. John’s exercises and training was custom fitted for each of us which we can also practice at home. Each week John would develop a new set of exercises to work different parts of our bodies and activate muscles we didn’t know we had. He stretched us to the core! But made it feel so good afterwards the stretching was worth it. John’s friendly, easy going, patient, spirit made the sessions easier and encouraged us to continue to the end. John would make a great trainer especially for someone like us in the over 60 club.

My wife and I do personal training with John Orscheln. He is very very good at knowing which areas of your body are to tight and need loosed. As well as knowing how to fix it and explain what the cause is. I am always impressed when he loosens up a specific area by pressing on a different, specific point on the body. The work outs he gives us usually aren't to demanding. I have seen the outcomes payoff in the long run. I personally just need to be better about rolling out the specific areas he tells me to keep the muscles working properly. Fitness Ankeny 24-7 is an affordable and quality gym. There's plenty of weight and cable machines, body weight utilities like resistance bands, medicine balls, Ladders and more. It's set up really nice with two floors separating cardio and body weight with the main weight lifting. The staff are friendly and attentive. I also have a personal trainer Tyler Schmidt. He's been absolutely incredible, helping me combat the effects of sitting at a desk over the last 15 years of my life. We worked on stability and my lack in range of motion. It's helped me not feel like an old man at 23. In addition he's encouraged me to go even further. With his guidance I participated in the InBody fitness challenge coupled with a new nutrition guide to lose 20 pounds while mainting muscle and place in the top 10. Overall I'd definitely recommend this gym for it's features, staff and affordability.

Ryan K is an excellent trainer and takes the time to educate me on the muscles I am using and the proper form for each exercise. I signed up for a personal trainer with Ryan K. From the start, Ryan K was helpful and attentive to what I was doing and could do in weight training. He models what he wants me to do. He challenged me to do things I didn't think I could do, and set goals, immediate and over time, that he wants me to meet. He is always positive and encouraging. We also talk about nutrition. John is a great personal trainer. One who is patient and works well with those who are afraid of the gym, working out , and others in general. John was referred to me by the fitness daycare manager. Due to some trauma I’ve had she thought he’d be a great fit and he is!! He’s someone who makes sure I feel safe and comfortable within a session to make working out easier. I have been working out at this gym for well over a year now. They've got a good variety of machines and usually it's not hard to find one to use. During this time, my wife and I have been working with a personnel trainer (John O). He has been a great trainer. No matter how many times we've needed something re-explained or re-demonstrated, he's been nice and remained calm and supportive and has been there to help and to make sure we're doing things correctly and that we understand what it is we are doing. He's done a great job with our routines and noticing and adjusting them if he notices certain muscles aren't functioning or if we are just struggling in certain areas. Best gym in Ankeny. Never too busy to get a workout, friendly and helpful staff, multiple variations of any piece of equipment you could ever need, and it’s always clean and fresh. I would highly recommend some training sessions with Tyler. He’ll get you moving in ways your body isn’t used to, and has an endless supply of Body movement repertoire. Being a really tall guy, he helped me realize how bad my posture actually was. He makes fitness an art form, and made my wife and I feel right at home. I started going to Fitness World 3 months ago. I had lost a lot of weight before starting at the gym, and I wanted help gaining muscle back, as well as someone to help me begin the journey of strength training in general. I started from the very bottom. I had ZERO experience in strength training. I started working trainer Rachel N two times a week in half hour sessions, as well as working out at the gym on my own. She helped me so much! I learned proper form, which was vital to me as a beginner. She was patient and encouraging throughout it all. After three months, I have gained 6.5 pounds of muscle, lost 14 pounds of body fat, and my body fat percentage has dropped 8%. The results have been incredible. Grateful to Rachel and Fitness World for helping me reach my goals!!

I love this gym, worth every penny! One of the great advantages is they offer private training. Tyler is a biomechanics specialist and after a few months training with him twice a week, my body functions differently as it should now! My posture is better, I've learned how to control different movements to allow my body to move and do everyday things without pain and my knee injuries and scoliosis have improved so much thanks to Tyler's teaching and guidance. Highly recommend going to see Tyler to learn how to move more pain free in your body!

I signed up for training sessions with Rachel and she was outstanding! Rachel has tremendous knowledge of weight training and made me extremely comfortable in trying new things. Core strength training, flexibility and overall workout sessions to increase my strength have provided me with a great foundation.
I recently have had both knees replaced and Rachel did a great job in slowly building strength back in my legs.

Was a member of Legacy for a long time & have nothing bad to say, except my hubby wanted a gym with more variety of equipment. We tried Aspen & checked out Anytime Fitness, but found them both lacking. Fitness World was reasonably priced ($110) a mo. for our family & has a plethora of room, great up to date equipment as well as many perks like the steam & sauna rooms in both men's & women's locker rooms. They offer a lot of extras like health testing, massage, classes & daycare. It's rarely a day I can't get access to the equipment I need for my workout. There are 2 floors full of equipment. They also have 24/hr. passes.

This is a great gym! The staff is friendly, the equipment is well-maintained, and the environment is welcoming. I like how I can access the gym late night with a fob when the job or life gets hectic, but I want to get a workout in.
One of my favorite services offered is the training sessions. My trainer Tyler not only teaches me new exercises and shows little adjustments to maximize the effectiveness, but he gives insight into diet, fitness, and life habits that will help me along my journey. I’ve been a member at Fitness World Ankeny for about 2 years. I love this place. Two levels with plenty of equipment for whatever type of workout you’re looking for! Nice locker rooms with Showers, Sauna and Steam room. Even when it’s busy I can find equipment. There is always available parking. My favorite thing though is the staff!! Always a friendly greeting, advice or a trainer available to help with whatever questions I have or just friendly conversation. Too many names to mention but they’re all amazing people!

It definitely has more equipment then any other gym in the polk county area. I have been to every big gym in polk county and in comparison, Fitness World destroys the competition. If you're looking for a gym with 24/7 access, free group training classes with over 50 group classes 7 days a week to pick from, steam room and sauna access, very beautiful locker rooms, and a great community of supportive and helpful staff aswell as members. Fitness World Clubs is your go to.

I'm not very impressed with this fitness center. TBH it's pretty incredible that they have 4.5 stars on average SMH
things i don't like:
1. they absolutely never give refunds to credit cards. only give gift cards.. Even when it is their mistake for accidentally overcharging the member.
-----I cancelled my +1 membership for my wife since she didn't ever go.. but they didn't process the membership cancelation. I let it go for 8 months before I realized that I was being over-charged.. When talked to the service staff, they could only give me a membership credit to cover the overcharging which meant that I was forced to continue being a member even when I completed my 12 month commitment because of the fee.
In my case they definitely should have refunded my credit card..
2. they only allow a maximum of 3 months of membership pause.
-----I don't use the gym during the warm months so i am forced to waste approximately 4 months of membership never going in.
3. the knowledgeable service staff are often absent.
---I would have taken care of my over-charging issue earlier, but i was never really available to go in between the hours of 9-4 when i think the staff were usually there.
4. it's not the cleanest or most organized gym.
----I always feel dirty when i get home Yes I might be sweaty, but beyond that just like i've been touching a lot of gross stuff. I wouldn't dream of using their showers... my hands feel grimy from touching the equipment.
5. they don't have very much group fitness classes on their schedule..
they get one extra star for having a sauna and steam room at a pretty good price. though the men's sauna seems pretty old.
Anyways I switched to anytime fitness
- even though it's about $100 extra per year, I will actually save money because they will let me pause my membership for the entire cycling season.. rather than 3 months maximum..
I don't feel bad about the switch even though i lose access to a sauna. :(

Terrible staff... I saw good reviews and walked inside to the front desk. The clerk was just kinda standing there and after a good 10 seconds of awkward silence, he asked me if I needed help. I said, "yeah, I saw this place online and came to check it out." To that, he responded, "Oh sorry, we don't have a salesperson in right now, but you can fill out this form. When he gets in he'll call you." To that, I silently walked away.
Are you serious? If a person is at the front counter they need to be ready to engage with a potential customer and not be dismissive. At least be friendly...

I only gave it three stars cuz of the cleanliness. I feel like the only cleaning that occurs there is by the patrons wiping down machines after use. Pretty easy to do a wipe down but for some reason the staff just won’t. Like come on, not even once a week? Things are caked in dust. Towels are a hit or miss on availability and if you wanna go late at night it’s a high probably there won’t be toilet paper in the bathroom. Other than that I really like the facility.

Well maintained equipment and helpful staff. This gym is for people who are serious about working out, unlike other gyms in town where people sit on equipment and play on their phones.
Bathrooms could use stronger hand dryers or switch to paper towels. Still 5 stars overall.

A great gym, if you're bodybuilding, powerlifting, or just coming in for a quick cardio sweat, Fitness World 24 has what you need. I came here on a short visit and got a day pass. The gym has two floors; most of the weights that I enjoyed using is on the first floor, while the second floor has more of the cardio type equipment, although there is an area where there is a cross-trainer and some light weights.
They have several squat/deadlift platforms, so you know this gym is legit. Plenty of free weights, a few bench presses, and weight machines as well. I love the color theme here. It's probably not a big deal to most people, but it reminds me of the Marvel Ironman-red color, and I'm a fan.
Locker rooms is located on the first floor, near the check-in, and everything appears clean and fresh. On the weight area, there are a couple of private bathrooms near the weight machines, so lift some weights, pop a squat, as needed, and then do some squats with no worry of anything popping out.

I did personal training with John for about 6 months and I was so happy with my progress! I had worn a brace on my foot for tendonitis for a few years every time I ran, but after about a month in personal training I was able to go without the brace completely. John showed me exercises to strengthen where I was weak in my foot, knees, and hips that my doctor and chiropractor had not shown me. In addition to this, John personalized my workouts to help me with form and I found huge improvements! We also worked a lot on my core strength through compound movements. I had been working out for years but I improved in strength in posture the most while I worked in personal training. I never felt judged when I struggled at something, and John did a really good job at breaking the exercises down so that I could understand the form and get the work out done. I have and will continue to recommend personal training to my friends!

It is a nice gym, clean, & they offer some gym classes which is nice for those that like that. When I signed up though I was told a "sign up" price, and ended up paying more initially to sign up then I was told by the manager..it was kind of disappointing because I felt like I was taken advantage of at the time. I was also double charged one time twice in the same month, which they fixed very willingly--and I was thankful for that! I did continue with a fitness world membership for 1 year, but overall I felt like I was paying too much (had paid to much to just join the gym) for what I was getting.

Great gym. Ample amount of equipment, in both cardio and free weight sections. More than 2 squat racks, which is the unfortunate standard nowadays, (5 I believe). As well as clean and up to date lifting equipment, plenty of dumbbells, and deadlift plates and stands. Everything you need for heavy lifting to straight cardio work. Almost forgot to mention there are 2 locations, the other has a pool. I have never been but I assume it’s ran the same. Last but not least, excellent staff all around! If I still lived in the area I would be going here.

I was really interested in getting a membership and they refused to go over pricing over the phone. My husband and I work opposite schedules and we have a 10 month old baby. I don't have time to physically come into every gym I am interested in. I just wanted a general idea of the price range for a membership, so I could make a decision if it was in my budget. Showers look like they never get clean especially the wet sauna. The wet sauna has had mud on the floor for the last 3 weeks. I also never got my 2nd day of free personal training that they promised me. Price is a little pricey too, for what theyoffer. They NEVER have white tiny towels in the locker rooms when they are suppose too. I go to the gym at 6 am everyday and these are the problems I run into, on a daily basis. If I could break my contract, I would.
