Used to think this place wasn't worth the price. Checked out other clubs and there is a big reason this place charges what they do. You want a clean and safe club with friendly staff. LT is it

Nice locker room and free weights section. Lots to do but the price is extremely expensive for what you get. You have to take out a second mortgage on your home to afford it. Think regular gym cost times 3

A very beautiful location. Offers a lot of variety. Not the best yoga instructors, but sufficient. Cafe is pretty good. The spa is mediocre. You are paying for variety and environment. The amenities are fantastic. Services however, leave much more to be desired. It is great for doing your own workouts and enjoying the cafe, lounge areas, work areas, and the locker room amenities. I highly discourage using the spa unless you are getting very basic things done and have low expectations. Overall, it isn't anything amazing, but for Iowa it is probably the best. For people who know what real high quality service is....you will struggle to stay with it. I cancelled after 3 months.

Nice gym, have different classes , good equipment from Hammerstrength and a decent sized free weight room. They have towels so you don't need to bring, they supply brand name shower gel and shampoo and lotion. Top notch.
Have sauna, jacuzzi, pool, steam room.

Unfortunately I am not having a good experience. After 5 years being a member I can never put my kid in free classes, it is always a forever waiting list. Another bad experience is not being able to clean the machines before/after work outβ¦ It is NOT available wipesβ¦ What???? and a few machines are being fixed and never come back to the building. Explaining it better, for the family price we pay monthly we wish it was a little more organized and more respect with their customers. They donβt care!

Facility is excellent. Staff is friendly. The pool is not large enough for user base so particularly in the summer there are use conflicts among competing member groups (for example lane swimmers vs pool jazzercise vs kids). This makes people upset. Established pool policies change a lot and are not always enforced. People complain but nothing changes. Also, the water isnβt as clean as it should be, particularly given the cost.

Stopped by, excited to tour the place, but was told we were past hours for tours and needed to set up an appointment with a sales representative.
Additionally, access to the restroom was denied because it was for members only. The bathroom was a few paces from the front desk. Despite offering to leave my phone and my husband as assurance I wouldnβt run off to look around ππ I was still denied access.
Interestingly, they offered us a day pass at 8 pm for $40 to tour the place and use the facilities. Not exactly a warm invitation to join there little over priced community.
Through all this, they smiled, saying theyβd love to have us as members and asked if we could set up a time to meet with a sales rep. This presented an interesting case of cognitive dissonance: βeagerβ to have us join, yet the policies in place hardly seemed welcoming.

Lifetime Fitness in Urbandale is, without a doubt, the best gym in Iowa! The facility is immaculate, spacious, and packed with top-of-the-line equipment for every fitness need. The sauna is an absolute must every time I visitβitβs the perfect way to relax and recharge after a workout. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help, and the variety of classes and amenities is unmatched. If youβre looking for a premium fitness experience, this is the place to be! I've been a member of Life Time for 9 years, first in Minnesota (where I used to live) and in Iowa (where I've been living since 2015). It continues to be an investment in my health. I want to state a few things:
1) I almost cancelled my Life Time membership almost 5 years ago after my divorce. My ex cancelled his membership, and I didn't know until it happened, that my price would go up. It continues to annoy me that many companies, like Life Time, will charge a higher rate for a single person, and won't give a financial consideration due to a life event, such as divorce, death of spouse, etc. Back then, I then decided to *try* to cancel, but thankfully, as I recall, it was David who told me that if I cancelled what the ramifications would be - that I'd rejoin at a much higher rate, etc. I am glad I stayed, as working out is essential during life changes. Lesson learned that I share as advice: If you go through a life event, such as a divorce or death, give yourself time to review and process before making changes to your life that are about finances.
2) I was laid off last year and was pleasantly surprised to find that I could pause my membership, which I did for four months (Nov 2023 - February 2024). Coincidentally, a new health club was opening in my Grimes neighborhood and offered a much lower rate. So while I paused the Lifetime membership, I joined Hot Worx. I think Hot Worx is a neat concept, don't get me wrong, and I wish them a ton of success. However, for me personally, it didn't feel good over time to work out in sauna conditions. (That is their "schtick": working out while the workout room is in sauna hi temps.) I did get a job in January 2024 and was excited to come back to Life time in March 2024.
Lesson learned: It's always great to check out other clubs. Again, if you're going through a life event, such as a job change, DO NOT CANCEL your membership. Pause it if you must, but working out is definitely a great thing to do during times of turmoil. I did enjoy using the digital Life Time workouts, which I also did during those four months, but it felt great to be back in the club in March.
3) I decided to pause again this month (Nov 2024), to check out yet another club in the Grimes area. I'm an empty nester who's just not into kids these days. I've noticed lots of kids at Lifetime recently, and I think it's terrific for families that they have the ability to put their kids in daycare there, or in classes. Again, not knocking it, but I feel being a bit Gen X er there these days, definitely an older soul in the 4:30 pm plus workout hours there, not that I really care BUT I digress...sooo, I decided to check out Ignit, a small Grimes club. Again, a lower price. I did a free week there, and it is very small. I liked the yoga class and other strength training class I took there, and the genuine care and friendliness of the staff. But last Sunday, when I walked in: There were tons of kids, like a whole team, screaming and doing their exercises on a court. I realized: Ya know what, it's time to go back to Lifetime. So I went back to Lifetime yesterday. Lesson learned: again, nothing wrong with trying out other clubs. Don't cancel a membership until you're absolutely certain you're ready.
Overall, Life Time continues to be the right place for me. For those of you concerned about ongoing price hikes, well I am too.
But the two times I checked out other clubs, I saw firsthand what is "lost" in paying less for a club. Thanks for reading!

I joined the club in 2021 with my domestic partner and have not had any issues until I tried to start my own account. The membership associate told me that my new account would be based off of my join date in 2021. However, the General Manager later decided to deny this request. When asked for clarification, I was told that too many members take advantage of having shared addresses or falsified their relationship status when trying to change their account type. The most concerning part of this interaction was when the GM told me that only married/divorced couples are eligible to maintain their rates based on join date and that all other members would need to join at the current daysβ rate. This seems to be pretty clear discrimination based on a marital status of a member. I was very off put by this interaction and condescending tone that the GM used when trying to explain this. I called the corporate office to file a complaint and have not received any resolution or follow up to this. Great gym, terrible leadership.

Great fitness club!!
Though on the pricey side, if you make use of the classes and kids club it's a great value. If you're just lifting or doing cardio, other area facilities do the job for much less.
But Lifetime is super clean, friendly, and quality, knowledgeable staff. Maintenance well done on equipment. Great group fitness programs and instructors!! Especially Lisa K, Shane, Ashley, Tori, Jessica, Ellyn, Tammie, Lori, I'm sure I'm missing many they are all great!!!

I've been a member on and off since it opened. Here are a few pros and cons:
In terms of pros, I love how clean the facilities are and how friendly the staff is. I've worked out with several trainers who are very helpful, knowledgeable, and approachable. The amenities are thoughtfully provided to cater to members' needs, including towels, shampoo, razors, and blow dryers.
The lockers now have numeric access, so keys are not required. They also switched to a login system that uses phones. Additionally, they don't allow male children in the female locker rooms. Instead, there are family bathrooms and changing rooms, and they prohibit nudity in the hot tubs, unlike some clubs.
The cafe offers fast, generally healthy, and tasty food. The WiFi is decent, and the large tables are great if you need a change of scenery to work remotely. The tennis court area also has seating, but it's not as ideal for plugging in devices. The club provides both indoor and outdoor pools, with a wide variety of classes and equipment.
The kids' academy is welcoming and friendly. They provide kids with a variety of play options for up to two hours while you work out. When my child was younger, I liked that they would call me instead of handling bathroom needs themselves.
For cons, I don't like that you need to RSVP for group classes. I stopped attending because it's not always feasible to RSVP and guarantee I can attend. They also started charging extra for the outdoor pool in the summer. I canceled my membership during COVID after putting it on pause for six months, and when I returned, I had to start paying extra for the pool. The pricing is definitely at a premium now.
I enjoy the spa services, but my experiences with the hair salon have been less positive. I had one of my worst haircuts there, and when I took my daughter for a braid, they doubled the price without notice and didn't finish styling it well, so we stopped going.
The nail technicians are efficient, consistently finishing within 45 minutes, which is fast compared to most salons. The quality is always good.
The pool no longer lets patrons use some equipment, and the family bathrooms can be a little messy, but they're cleaned regularly.

As a dedicated member of Lifetime Fitness, I've had the distinct pleasure of witnessing Jack's extraordinary impact on the gym's atmosphere and growth firsthand. His exceptional leadership skills are more than just apparentβthey're an integral part of the daily experience here at the facility.
Jack's leadership shines through in every aspect of the gym's operation, fostering an environment where members like myself feel motivated, supported, and valued. He doesn't just manage; he inspires, encouraging both staff and gym-goers to push beyond their limits, pursue their wellness goals, and maintain a positive outlook on the fitness journey.
The way Jack recognizes and utilizes the individual strengths of his team members has resulted in a harmonious gym environment where every staff interaction feels personalized and uplifting. This has a ripple effect on us members, making each visit to the gym an enjoyable and productive sessionβa testament to Jackβs ability to create a culture of excellence that enhances member satisfaction.
Outside of the obvious day-to-day benefits, Jack's influence in business development has been evident in the steady enhancements and expansions taking place. Under his guidance, I've seen Lifetime Fitness introduce cutting-edge classes, state-of-the-art equipment, and tailored health programs that keep pace with the latest industry advancements. As a result, the gym isn't just retaining membersβit's continuously attracting new faces excited by the dynamic offerings and inclusive community cultivated by Jack's leadership.
For someone who values their fitness and wellness journey, having access to a facility that evolves to meet and even anticipate your needs is invaluable. This forward-thinking approach to business growth ensures that my investment in a membership here is not just rewarding in the present, but also robust for the future. It's clear that Jack's innovative spirit is at the heart of Lifetime Fitness' market success, and his dedication is a cornerstone of the trust and loyalty that the brand enjoys among its members.
In conclusion, Jack's impact as a leader at Lifetime Fitness resonates with every person who walks through its doors. His drive and vision create a thriving environment that benefits members and the business alike, securing Lifetime Fitness' reputation as a top-tier health and fitness sanctuary. I, for one, am grateful for the positive changes his leadership has brought to my gym experience.

Had a terrible experience with Management, my car was hit and ran in the parking lot, I was working out at the time, I went and told the staff they told me I had to file a police report. After filing a police report, they said that they would check the cameras. Throughout the week I went back to the police station with no response back from Lifetime, I went in with the officer (noted that this is the second time the officer has been in there for an update.) The Manager running the location comes down from working out and says he will check the cameras. To find out later he never did. Someone who is paying $120 dollars for a gym membership, when the customer service is not up to par with its pricing. Managers got time to workout, but not for customer service. Do not pay to go there not worth your money or time. You can get a better experience somewhere cheaper.

It's a very nice gym, a lot of equipment, but membership size has increased dramatically since I joined in 2017 and the facility has not been able to keep up. Even during non-peak hours it seems to be overcrowded (at least to me) too much of the time. The magnificent elements of this gym are nearly overwhelming. I have been to gyms all over and I can say without a doubt that this particular location meets all the needs of a person just beginning their fitness journey all the way up to the most avid of fitness enthusiasts. With that said, it obviously covers all the space in between so no matter where youre at in life this place can help you get moving again.
Remember, in this life we pay for real quality and you get what you pay for. Are there gyms with a monthly fee a fraction as much?
Sure. But you get what you pay for at those kinds of places. Limitations due to true quality in equipment and staff.
Lifetime Fitness is the epitome of quality unparalleled. From the moment I walked in the staff was very welcoming and made all accommodations available. As I made my way up the stairs to the gym floor I found the quality and variety of everything sincerely jaw dropping and awe inspiring.
Unfortunately my finances are up and down, serious feast or famine type of stuff. But if you're more responsible than me you could not make a better investment in Your Quality of Life than becoming a member here.

Not worth the price. Limited classes offered at certain times of the day. I'm interested in barre and Pilates, neither of which are offered before or after work - only during the day. Pilates is an extra fee, which is ridiculous given the hefty price of the membership to begin with. Limited space in classes unless you show up 10-15 minutes early. At 6am, I am not coming in 15 minutes early to watch the prior class finish up just so I can get a spot in the class I'm paying for. The parking lot is always way too full and you can't find a spot without driving around several times. VERY strict guest rules. The same guest is only allowed to come once every two months, while other gyms (that are much cheaper) are more flexible with guest passes. And starting later this month, guests are not allowed on weekends. For almost $200 a month, they are very strict with their rules and you aren't guaranteed a spot. Save your money and find a much cheaper gym with less rules and regulations.

Oh, Lifetime Gym, what a truly unique and special experience you are. Where else can you pay an arm and a leg to workout in a place that is always teeming with people? It's like a sardine can, but with more sweating and grunting.
But fear not, because you get to enjoy the privilege of waking up early enough to catch the sunrise while everyone else is still snoozing in their cozy beds. That's right, you can start your day by fighting for a spot on the elliptical while your fellow gym-goers cheer you on with their battle cries of "I got next!"
And let's not forget the sheer joy of paying an exorbitant amount of money to feel like you're running on a treadmill in Times Square during rush hour. It's like a constant reminder that you're not alone in this world, as you get to bump elbows with strangers while you both struggle to catch your breath.
But all jokes aside, Lifetime Gym truly is a one-of-a-kind experience. You can't put a price on the opportunity to bond with other sweaty humans at the crack of dawn. 7.1 out of 10, would recommend (but only if you really love crowds and overpriced memberships).

This is a nice facility, but the overall experience has gone downhill since I joined when it first opened. Pretty much the whole place has been taken over by their training clients or those paying extra for other services.
There used to be 2 full basketball courts that my kids could use. Now there's only one (other is pickleball) & it's either packed, used for daycare, or something else. In the workout area, more space is now restricted to their training clients. Even in the general areas(like squat racks), the training groups take over. Just this week, a trainer & his 2 clients were talking for 5 minutes by a machine.....when I asked if they were using it, he said "yes" & continued to talk there. Rude as hell. Again, if you're not paying for extra services above the base membership....they could care less about your experience.

This place refused to keep the prices they promised, after signing up with the student plan, the rate was quickly raised to regular rates. In addition, a premium fee was being charged for the overpacked pool that was part of the original plan the prior year. This place continues to show distasteful and terrible business practices time and time again. I had heard plenty of stories from former and current employees and members highlighting downright horrible management practices. Assault and battery ignored by the management, as well as harassment of female employees by male members. The management of this Lifetime are so horrible and short-sighted that they refuse to address the issues causing a snowball effect that continues to ruin the gym's status and clout that kept it afloat in the past.

Life Time is giant and the equipment is all new or in great shape. It can get really busy, though, and people can be pushy during peak hours. For the monthly price that they charge, I really wish they would put some of that money toward a makeover for the sauna, hot tubs and showers.

Lifetime has taken a serious nosedive since becoming a member a handful of years ago. Itβs overcrowded most of the time, even during the off peak hours itβs difficult to work in sets on equipment when someone is sitting on their phone and taking selfies for 20 minutes. The bathrooms, sauna and steam rooms constantly have towels laying around, the floors are disgusting, and lately it seems like no one cares to wipe down equipment or pick up after themselves. All of this, yet they hike the rates and cite the pickle ball courts as an excuse. Lastly, they offer memberships for less if youβre under a certain age. While I agree itβs great to be inclusive and appealing to all, I also think there are other gyms for that specific business model. Iβve never understood why certain individuals are charged more for utilizing the exact same amenities? If you want to stay elite and give an exceptional customer experience, a few areas need to be revisited and reconsidered.

I love the amenities and everything they have to offer. But it is soooo packed that you have to wait in line for the equipment. And sometimes packed in the sauna with lots of people and sometimes don't even have room for more. at times expect to wait in line for equipment. There where times we even just left because ita not worth waiting for everything

Terrible there is only 3 toilets in the mens bathroom and all the bathrooms up stairs have no toilet paper. They do not have the bathroom infrastructure to go with the amount of people they have in the gym. Very disappointing π

This gym has gone downhill since I joined 4 years ago. There are way too many people even with the massive size of the fitness center. Good luck finding gym equipment to use in the new year. The locker rooms are constantly dirty, especially on the weekends. The sauna and steam rooms are in need of repair. The club has raised rates twice in the past year by more than 25% and you are not locked into the rate you began with. This is no longer the elite gym in the Des Moines metro. I Highly recommend looking elsewhere before spending a hundred dollars each month for an average gym membership.

This gym is awesome! The billing department is an absolute nightmare! I have been in.toich with them since August and just finally last month after asking to cancel the membership SEVERAL times they finally take me off but ignore all 6 children on the account and continue to bill after asking for EVERYONE to be removed. They give you a run around and they refuse to address the issues at hand!

If you're a lifter with no use for frivolous amenities go elsewhere. You can't justify the pricetag when you're only purpose for being there is to move weight. If they would tier their membership options it would be great. They know exactly what they're doing though. They're charging everyone a premium rate knowing full and well that a good portion of their members won't use the extras. It's not entirely unethical it's just terrible customer service.

I love this gym! I call it more of a lifestyle resort because gym does not do it justice !!
Yes it's pricey but completely worth it. Beautiful amenities, locker room ( with sauna, hot tub and steam room) pools are amazing both indoor and outdoor. Amazing staff I especially love Margaret and the whole front desk staff- and Steve is very nice as well!
10 out of 10 would definitely recommend!

Great place until they took out half the gym and replaced it with a pickle ball court. At times too packed to use the BB court side because over packed with trainers, kids and flying balls, yet pickle ball court is completely vacant. I wish they would have found a better way of increasing membership than that.

I love lifetime the alpha classes are great and the gym is wonderful, but they also have some very dumb rules especially when it comes to guests. My bf was interested in joining so I tried to take him to the pool and we were told that there are no guests on the weekends or it costs 40$. That is an insane price for a one day guest pass and he is now completely turned off by joining. We canβt go to the pool during the week as we both work full time. Iβm not too happy with the monthly prices to begin with but this is too much.

Very friendly experience with Renae she give us amazing Tour of the facility and helpful tips for the family, I Recommend calling to schedule a Tour and plan ahead and do your research to best fit your needs. I saw a faculty of workers doing there best to give a positive safe fun healthy experience with a open environment. Ask and look for spring deals and flexibility to your schedule dont be shy, time to get out the house π

This gym is amazing. It is an experience and they don't lock you in to a yearly plan. I use the gym for weight training and my wife for cardio and swimming. The place is very clean and they truly care about their customers. Very clean bathrooms and showers. I rarely have to change my routine due to equipment shortage. All in all I would say this is worth the money. Good luck!

Lifetime fitness is a great membership. I fully enjoyed the workout facility, the swimming pool indoor, especially having kids the family locker room is an amazing feature. I donβt have enough good things to say about the facility. I also did a massage in the spa which was a wonderful experience and would do again!

I got my membership here yesterday, and I already love this gym. I wonβt detail how excellent the amenities are because this is a luxury gym, so thatβs expected, but the staff is SO friendly and welcoming. I didnβt feel judged by the staff or club members. It is expensive, so this is all to be expected, but itβs nice that it is what itβs hyped to be. I canβt wait to keep coming back.

I was truly impressed with my first visit to Lifetime Fitness here in Urbandale, Iowa (WDM). Visiting was easy and relatively painless, thanks to an awesome invite and guest pass gift from fellow Indian-American and business partner Hari Nallure. I have been a longtime member of both YMCA and Planet Fitness in my hometown of Cleveland, OH.
After quickly working out on the cavernous and facilities-rich 2nd floor of the Club, I took in both the expansive and clean pool and triumphant tennis courts - facilities representing sports-domains I once excelled with - and shone.
After this outstanding complimentary session I made it a priority to speak to the front office. A perfect gentleman named James, head tennis pro, scheduled a complimentary first tennis lesson two days later. I realized within minutes a) I was really out of shape! and b) I wasn't a spring chicken π anymore. It was heartening to see and feel my groundstrokes gain ground as the lesson progressed. In just 30 minutes we ran the gamut from forehand to backhand to volley and I was shining with sweat. Jim was also quite social and friendly - traits I noticed all the staff shared. In under two days I committed to joining for good. I paid a prorated month through the awesome mobile π² app.
I now work out at Lifetime Fitness daily! A new religious practice, I am committed to wellness efforts here after getting an unfortunate Co-Vid diagnosis - and high blood sugar to boot. Fast forward two years later - and I note just how focused on healthy lifestyle I am. I credit Lifetime for the transformation plan personal trainers and coaches (complimentary first session) helped me design. The cardio machines and weight room are unparalleled. As a bonus I can now visit any Club nationwide, as I travel for business or pleasure. I have a first (complimentary) Yoga class scheduled for next week - and tennis with the Boss after that
Kudos to Lifetime Fitness. Member for life.

They desperately need non-slip runners on their wet areas before someone slips and falls and hurts themselves. Dry sauna smell is back-like ammonia or a high school boys locker room on a hot day after football practice. Staff are generally extremely nice and accommodating. Towels are shredding a lot. Gym equipment appears clean but look closer- itβs VERY DUSTY, including in the food and kitchen area. Lockers constantly get stuck in the locked position and they donβt just FIX them. Kids in locker rooms are very nice, though. Pools need more frequent vacuuming and maintenance but lifeguards are nice and they have goood equipment, like pull buoys and swim fins, to borrow. They fail to keep lotion in the pool restrooms where it is most needed to prevent dry skin. Front desk and sales folks are always 100% nice and always helpful. They run out of body wash constantly and tell you itβs back ordered rather than go out and buy a temporary supply at a local store. Staff are slow to police leftover, used towels in sauna and steam room, which is gross. Sinks are always flooded with water from messy members!

Finally came back to Life Time gym after freezing my account for a few months and I couldn't be happier with their staff! All of the staff has been so hospitable and generous throughout my entire membership, and the facility is gorgeous with many accommodations. But specifically, Olivia, whom was working the front desk, gave me the warmest welcome back and went above and beyond in helping me with a question I had. Olivia remembered talking to me on the phone when I had called the day before, which is substantial to me (this is the first time we had ever met). Not only was her friendly greeting appreciated, but also her precision in having my question answered in a timely manner. So please send Olivia a huge thank you from me and give her a warm smile back when she greets you! Thank you Life Time & Olivia!!!

It's a great gym with a lot of extra commodities to make it a one stop for your fitness needs. Indoor and outdoor pools with hot tubs. Wet sauna, dry sauna and hot tubs in the shower rooms. The only thing I wish was the actual gym floor was larger like Phase 3 down south, but still has enough room to get in a full work out. Just might have to change your rotation when it's busy.
Although I don't have any offspring, they do have an amazing deal for children at the Kids Academy. Which helps with parents struggling with balancing home and gym life.
