Ninja U is an obstacle training facility (think American Ninja Warrior) that is owned and managed by dads wanting to make movement fun for kids & adults!
The dream is for Ninja U to be the kind of place that when you (or your kids) lay in bed, you are still thinking about how to conquer that obstacle, get a better time, or how much fun you had! We want it to be an encouraging place that you can ... be U, be brave, be-come stronger, be-lieve you can do hard things!
Open gym (daily), ninja classes, adaptive ninja classes, birthday parties, field trips, workshops, and large group events are available.

My son has taken lessons here for almost a year and a half. It has been so rewarding to see him progress from struggling to do basic skills to accomplishing amazing feats. He has definitely taken their motto to heart - Hard work pays off!
When he first started, I was ready to pull him out right away. The obstacles seemed way too hard and the other kids were a little snooty when he was struggling. But I am so glad he kept at it, because Ninja U has been a huge confidence booster as he has progressed through skills. It has also been a good life lesson to set goals, accomplish them, and then set new goals.
I also have to say that the coaches are wonderful and Iβve always had good experiences with the front desk staff. We love Nina U!

Super fun for my 5 year old! Kind of chaotic but all the kids seem to get along and there is plenty of space.

My son participated in a WNL competition at this gym. The competition ran smoothly and on time. They lived streamed with background commentary and the facility had nice viewing angles. It was also warm and my hands weren't freezing which is always nice in these cold winters.

Right off the bat, I have to call out that I think this place rates a little different depending on your intention - in our case, we took our daughter just for a casual visit.
If your kid is not all about the American Ninja Warrior life and you're just looking for another place like Urban Air/Kids Empire/Etc. where they can do some different stuff for a few hours... This isn't a great option for that. There's one small section that's loosely setup as a continuous set of things that can be done at once, but otherwise the rest of the gym is different stations that are setup at heights appropriate for adults (and apparently some very-impressive kids we saw doing a class while we were there). Our daughter did find some other kids free-playing to play with that frequent the gym quite a bit/take classes, so she was able to enjoy herself while they were there - but if they hadn't been it would have been an even shorter visit than it already was (we made it about an hour).
If your kid IS all about the American Ninja Warrior life, I still question the setup - everything seemed very advanced/high off the ground with no way to adjust the height to levels that are more-workable for kids. With that said, like I mentioned above, we saw some kids doing crazy things so clearly it doesn't deter all kids, I just think they would benefit from having the ability to adjust the height or having a dedicated area setup that allows kids to grow up through the difficult/height.
As far as adults are concerned - I'm not an expert or even an American Ninja Warrior enthusiast, but I did watch a fair amount of it on TV. With that as my credentials, I can see how there's a lot of different stations for practicing different grips/holds/how to navigate individual types of obstacles, but once again there aren't any continuous sets of obstacles that would allow you to practice doing a whole run. I feel like they would benefit from setting something like that up and rotating out the stations periodically to keep it fresh?
In summary: I don't want to appear to be too-critical just because it inherently isn't as conducive to free-play as it was suggested it could be. It did seem like there were quite a few regulars there/families of kids who take classes there and they all seemed to be all about the place. There's ample seating for parents to sit on the side and pass the time while the kids play. I just feel like they could make some adjustments that would make the free-play idea a more-realistic option and make it a better training option for both kids and adults.

We had my sonβs (4yo) birthday party here. Overall, kids had a blast! Sort of just a free for all to wear them out. My only complaint is the website says fridge and freezer available for your treats and all they had was a mini fridge (that was holding other stuff while we were the only party there) and a mini freezer. It was not sufficient for keeping the cake cold as instructed by the baker. The website should be updated to reflect it had very little space to store cold items.

My son, 7 years old and neurodivergent, has been attending ninjau for a year and absolutely loves it! The coaches go above and beyond to help improve his technique and make him feel accepted and comfortable. Coach Nate and coach Jeff make an exceptional effort for the not so typical child and we feel incredibly blessed to have found this atmosphere for my boy!

Fantastic place for the kids to go and play. My only downside is how compact it is, the obstacles are really close together. Not that I don't appreciate how close it is to my house but they could use a SQ ft upgrade.

My son absolutely loves Ninja/U and it's been an awesome outlet for him as a high energy kid. It's also showing him how to put that energy into specific movements of his body and he sets goals to achieve. The staff has always been great and helpful. Highly recommend!! Especially if you have kiddos that have trouble sitting still

We had a birthday party at NinjaU tonight and it couldnβt have been more fun. Nate (the GM) went above and beyond for our group. All of the kids (ages 4-12) were having so much fun they barely took time to stop for pizza OR cake. Canβt wait to drop back in and let the kids play again. So glad to have NinjaU here in town!

On our recent trip out west we finally got a chance to stop by Ninja U! We have been following the owner of the gym since their early YouTube tips on the BackYardNinjas. This new location in Ankeny was fantastic! Nate, the manager, was so welcoming and enthusiastic with my boys. The gym was so clean, brand spanking new, my kids were so happy to get their hands on all the obstacles. We'll be returning for sure!
