Newer machines and clean. The reason I gave it only a four star is because the layout (machine placement) is not very intuitive. Muscle groups were all mixed together. They need to have certain areas separated. It almost seemed like they were gifted with a certain amount of equipment and not enough space for all of it so they just put units wherever they could with no rhyme or reason.

If you advertise a place as being open 24/5 then you should be open for 24 hours for five days a week. That’s what I thought I was signing up for when I joined the gym, but I was very disappointed when I found out that 24/5 does not mean what it is advertised as. Not only did the employees tell me over the phone before I signed up that they were open 24/5 Monday through Friday and 7 to 7 on the weekends, but I was also told the same thing by an employee the first day that I signed up. This is definitely very disappointing and it definitely feels like bait trapped to me😬😬😬😬

I'm writing to express my disappointment with recent changes at the Cedar Rapids NW Planet Fitness location. I've been a Black Card member for 3.5 years and have generally been satisfied with my experiences, especially during my winter stay in Arizona, where I utilized my membership regularly. However, several recent issues upon my return home have led me to reconsider my membership.

Firstly, I understand that hours change, and I was willing to adjust my schedule when the location's hours were modified. However, my experience with the hydromassage services has been consistently problematic. In late December, when I came back for a visit, after a satisfactory workout, I was informed that both hydromassage machines were out of service. While I understand equipment malfunctions occur, it was frustrating.
More recently, after returning home from Arizona for the spring and summer months, I planned my workout to include the hydromassage, a key benefit of my Black Card that I enjoyed using while away. I arrived today with ample time, aiming to complete my workout and hydromassage session before closing. However, I was told the hydromassage area closes 30 minutes prior to the gym's posted closing time. I was unaware of this policy change and had not received any notification, either via signage or email.

This significantly impacts my ability to utilize a primary benefit of my membership, especially as I specifically chose the Black Card for its traveling and hydromassage benefits, which I utilized successfully in Arizona. With the current hours and this new hydromassage closure policy, I can only access this service on two out of my five weekly workout days.

I appreciate the flexibility of the Planet Fitness Black Card membership, but the combination of unannounced policy changes and equipment downtime is making it difficult to justify the cost, particularly after experiencing the benefits of the Black Card at other locations. While I understand that communicating all changes can be challenging, the lack of notice has significantly impacted my ability to effectively use the services I'm paying for. I'm now seriously considering whether this NW Cedar Rapids location continues to meet my fitness needs, especially as the other location is too far to incorporate into my schedule. I hope this feedback is helpful in addressing these concerns.

When a piece of equipment goes down, it takes them a month to fix it. It is also freezing in there. I would give 5 stars if the bathrooms were cleaner and if it was warmer in the gym.

Staff are friendly, current staff does a good job of cleaning. Since this planet fitness received newer equipment almost ALL the computers in the liptical machine do not work correctly and throw off your workouts, tends to be very frustrating they have been that way since these machines came to this location with when the old machines where replaced. The balance of all the lipticals are off balance the floor may be uneven, but they never have been adjusted, so they all seem to wabble, making the machines feel like there not safe. It seems like an easy fix if staff could adjust the front bottoms of the machine giving a more secure feel when working out on them. This should not require a work order to secure a more stable machine. Actually, the old machines at the Edgewood rd in CR worked much better than the cardio machines they have in there now.

I've been coming to Planet Fitness on the west side of Cedar Rapids for years, but I must say, things have been going down hill lately. I come to tan at least 4 days out of the week and utilize the Hydromassage bed and deep tissue chair on a regular. I come in and staff are all standing around the front desk talking or on their phones, sitting on the countertops. They'll check me in at their leisure and when I go back to the tanning bed, 95% of the time it's not been cleaned! I used to the have a number of clean dry clothes for cleaning, but I'm lucky to have the paper towels filled now! I'm at a loss of words, as with so many staff just standing around the whole facility should be spic and span! Now today I go in and the best bed they have is out of commission due to bulbs being out... this is not a new problem here. The massage beds and chairs are rarely all working! Today I used the hydro massage bed and when I got up my back was drenched. Upon inspection, I noticed that there was a leak in the actual bed! I'm seriously considering going to their other location at Lindale Mall, but they only have Stand Up tanning, and I prefer to lay down and relax. Perhaps it's time to look for another gym. ☹️☹️

This location does not have adequate handicap accessibility in the women's shower. It allows a wheelchair to be rolled in but there's no seat for those with limited mobility who need to sit while showering. They did provide a large metal lawn style chair that was in a changing room that I was expected to move myself, only to find out is too large for the handicap shower stall.

I now have to travel to find a planet fitness that can meet handicap accessibility needs.

When I first joined planet fitness, I was thrilled. I loved that it wasn't super packed when I went. I loved the black card area. And I love all of the different equipment. But the fact that they do not maintain things as simple as paper towel dispensers, ticked me off. Their staff tends to just stand around behind the counter. They don't refill cleaning solution or paper towels. I constantly had to go and ask for more at the counter. So many of the pieces of equipment were not in working. Order the taining beds were not in working order, the hydromassage, if they were working, they weren't working properly. As well as the deep tissue chairs. The tanning rooms look like they have caught on fire, The tanning beds, the acrylic is so cracked, It's scary to lay on them. The planet fitness that I am now a member of an Indiana is amazing. It's clean, The staff is courteous, They are always cleaning and restocking. The equipment is repaired and up-to-date. I really think this location should consider doing some work on themselves instead of just expecting their clients to work on themselves.

I've been a member since they opened by Lindale Mall. Staff is always friendly, very clean environment, plenty of machines to go around even during busy hours and honestly, their members are great. You can’t beat the value! It’s so affordable that I’m able to keep my membership to another local gym that has features not found in Planet Fitness. All machines are kept in good condition, there’s plenty to choose from even on peak hours, and the whole gym maintains a clean appearance. As with any gym I’ve ever experienced, sometimes the showers could be cleaner, and I know that is dependent on how the day is staffed. The staff is friendly, always attentive whenever I’ve needed assistance. Some days I just treat myself to their Black Card massage machines whenever I need to focus on recovery. I’ve been a member for over 5 years now and I’m planning on staying a member for life.

Abundant machines, decent equipment, nice atmosphere unlike other gyms I’ve been a member at where I’m paying a fortune and then unable to complete my workouts due to lack of machines or broken equipment. My only complaint is the cleanliness of the facility. The floors don’t get cleaned enough so there is a lot of hair and dust bunnies around machines and the perimeter. The locker room and bathrooms are pretty gross and I try to avoid using either! Overall, I feel welcomed and productive when I’m there and I really look forward to seeing my early morning group of people even if we never speak to one another! This PF is decent: I'd call it OK, not great. The place is fairly clean but clearly not deep cleaned often. A few times now in the women's restroom it's been messy and looks unkept with rolls of wet paper towels out on the counter instead of loaded in the machine.

The exercise machines are hit or miss, they have a good variety but it doesn't seem like there's a lot of maintenance on them. For example, snapped cables on weight pins and quite a few of hand grips are either slid out of place or completely missing.

Was visiting family in Cedar Rapids from Southern California and used this gym for a few days in the early morning since it was close to where I was staying. I have a “Black Card” membership that allows me to used any of their facilities. I’ve always thought highly of Planet Fitness and the multiple locations I frequent where I live near San Diego, but this gym was pretty troubling. The locker room was a shocking mess and during the few days I visited it was clear that it was not being cleaned at all. The changing rooms, showers, floors and bathroom had the same trash and mess in them day after day. When I went to mention it to staff they were not to be found so I left a hand written note on the desk thinking it’ll be tidied up the next day, but it didn’t. This location is not representing the franchise well, sorry to say.

I have been going to this gym for years and it used to be so nice! Recently the cleaning has been going seriously down hill fast. I've been giving this PF too many chances as it is more convenient than the other location. I see a lot of the same complaints in these reviews yet nothing has changed. When you walk in, first thing you see is the group of "employees" standing behind the counter on their phones with their heads down, scrolling like their life depends on it. When you approach them for help, it almost seems like they are irritated or they act like it's a chore to do their job in any capacity. I like the short guy with the deep voice, but ALL of the others do not represent the company well in ANY capacity. Yesterday was the second time I have been put in a tanning bed in which I asked for 9 or 10 minutes, yet it continuously ran through to 12 mins and 22 seconds. Yesterday was even a different bed than the other one yet both times I've brought it to their attention I'm told it's having "mechanical issues" or "it's just a hit and miss", not to mention 14 bulbs were out in the one bed and ALL the bulbs had some kind of dusty dirty debris in them that could be flammable. So why are you continuously putting people in tanning beds with "hit and miss mechanical issues" that can literally effect someone's safety? 2 mins is the difference between a tan and a burn that needs medical attention. Last week I was sent to a dirty bed that literally had butt cheek prints on it and by the time they finished cleaning it, i had lost 3 mins of my tanning time. How do I contact the franchise owner to remedy this asinine nonsense?

Unprofessional!!!! went back and forth with the lady at the front desk about my membership. Because my membership didn’t make sense to her she called the location I got it at and told them a bunch of lies for them to cancel it. Talk to the other location and was able to workout. The front desk lady upset that whatever games she was playing didn’t work, decided to call the cops as I’m working out and made up more lies and said I threaten her. I was approached during my workout by cops saying I had to leave as I was trespassing. I don’t understand why people need to feel like they’re in charge and have some authority but that was her exact attitude.
