Great staff, atm machine if you need cash, same as a credit card with the service fee so it evens out.. 3 dollars is not gonna kill people, the course is wonderful with greens that are truer than true..Great hole designs and makes you hit all the shots

It's fine in a pinch but pass if you can. Play a lot of golf. 70 dollars for two with a cart is madness for a course in this condition. It doesn't appear as if they have put one dollar in this place since the 80's. The clubhouse could be a cool throwback if it wasn't decorated like someone's messy bedroom with 5 Trump flags hanging (which it is). The sad part is with all the mature trees and wide open space the course itself could be a masterpiece. But with the terrible carts and worse golf paths that ride rougher than an African safari I just don't see it. Sorry. Pass.

I play here regularly, so here's my take:

Terrific grass range, but over-priced buckets of balls.
Funky, dark, 1970s style clubhouse.
Cash only, be prepared.
Very long white tees yardage.
Lotta low-rent players, so etiquette is iffy.
Fun design, long and pretty open, but the greens are demonic. Very narrow and have mounds all around them, making chipping a nightmare.
Greens in excellent shape.
Fairways are not watered, so summertime can be rock hard.
No bunkers, but for some reason they have a practice bunker.
Their scheduling system is kinda haphazard.
Nice staff.
Entrance road is terrible, and there is a back way in, but it feels like you're driving into someone's yard.

Overall a flawed but still very fun place to play.

70 dollars for 9 holes and a cart. Cash and check only, but don’t worry there’s a atm with a 3 dollar fee

Quail Creek has some of the best greens around and is always a challenge! The staff is always friendly and welcoming. Yes it’s cash only, but don’t let that hold you back from a great 9 holes of golf! Sure the clubhouse could use some updates, but there’s also something to the nostalgia of it. Each hole has its own challenges and that’s what makes it a great time every time.

Never have I ever seen an owner be petty in response to a review. Even if the customers were less than ideal.
Cash only is sketchy.
Tournament winnings being less than entry fees for a tournament is laughable

Played in the two person best shot tournament on 5/21, I played horribly, but I had a really great time during and after the round thanks to the phenomenal staff on hand, they were great in terms of organizing the tournament, keeping the prize pool in order and making sure we all got teed off at the right times…11/10 and would highly recommend

Played this course a few years back - stay away.

Buddy of mine played in a 2 man best shot. $140 entry fee. They won and they were only paid out $132. They were accused of cheating by the owner. My buddy was a Division I golfer - ain't no cheating going on there. When my buddy asked about the payout the owner told him to "F Himself". Really nice guy. Makes you wonder about this place.

While the course is in decent shape, it’s run by a cheap jack-wagon and his lackey. In 2023 they still do not accept credit cards (which isn’t advertised) so if you show up without cash you have to use their ATM machine and spend an extra $3 to get your cash out. The clubhouse hasn’t received an update since it was built but charges like they have a state of the art facility. They don’t sell any liquor because they don’t want to pay for a liquor license (their words). If you win one of their tournaments, the payout won’t cover your entry fee and you’ll be accused of cheating. I’d give this place zero stars if the course itself wasn’t in decent shape. I live a half mile from the course, have played golf my entire life, and I’ll die happy knowing I’ll never play there again.

In reply to the owners response: We questioned why the payout for the team that won the tournament was less then the entry fee. The advertisement for the tournament said “$$$ Prizes” and when asked what the payout would be before the tournament started I was just given a shoulder shrug. Accusing someone of cheating doesn’t carry much weight when you lack even a shred of integrity.

Set a tee time to include left handed clubs. Drove out of my way to meet up with a friend and they gave the club to the guy in front of my in line. Wouldn’t recommend.

The staff is great and the pin positions are tricky. If you are in the Iowa city area and a decent golfer, play this course at least once. Very very fun course with greens that beat many courses in the area. Perfect speed and not shaggy greens like pv. Prices are high for a 9 hole course (even if it were 19) and cash only in 2022…but it is worth for at least once for a fun course. I will be back. Hit an iron on hole 9.

Beautifully maintained greens are the only redeeming quality at this place. The pothole-strewn drive up to the clubhouse sets the tone here for an overpriced, cash only experience.

Nice course, terrible management. Tee time was 3:30PM and as I set up to tee off, two carts pulled up behind me and was set to play. Why did I get a tee time? Was then pushed by many groups due to no set schedule at all here. Not to mention outrageous prices at this course. Payed ~$70 for my wife and I to golf and I think that’s a little much for what this course offers. I will be golfing other places when I come to visit - I would go somewhere else

This course really could be great. Greens are well maintained and the fairways have good contour. Cash only. Today a greenskeeper watering the greens at 10 a.m. while I'm trying to approach and says "can I help you?" like I'm the one in the way. Then he tells me that him watering the greens is more important than me. I tell him without players, there's no course and no job. I'm done with this place. Could be great but this kinda kills it for me.

The golf course is very run down. My son from Az came to play on it and couldn't believe how run down the place is. The road will flatten your tires, he has boards out with spikes in them to keep people off his grass but the unmaintained road is in horrible shape. Been like this for years now, it's like an obstacle course.

In from out of town and was welcomed easiy with a flexible tee time. Course was nice combo of long and short holes. The water obstacles just challanging enough to make you hit your best shot. We would definitely play again.

Always a really busy course. Kind of annoying, so I don't go here often. The guy said there was supposed to be a beer cart going around, so we never got any drinks. Also, there weren't many portapottys on the course. I probably wouldn't go back unless someone else wanted to go.

Course itself wasn’t in terrible shape but for $29 for 9 on a Friday after 5 I won’t be back. The driveway into the place has potholes so big you could lose a VW in. And the cart paths were almost unusable there were so many potholes. The cash only policy is ridiculous, this isn’t 1987, get a credit card machine.

Fun little 9 hole course with lots of water features and well-cut fareways. Only downside is that the course overall is extremely bumpy so if you're riding a cart take it easy while you're cruising around.

Nice place that could be GREAT
Course is always in great shape & the greens are top notch!
I've been playing this course for over 20 years so it's always going to be a favorite of mine.
That being said, there are some things that haven't changed in those 20 years. (Bathroom/Locker Room, Clubhouse & Pro Shop Area, Driving Range)
Just wish they would update a few things to make life easier for everyone & it would make them more money!
1. Cash Only: They STILL don't accept Debit/Credit Cards & it's 2016!
2. Driving Range: They should add some flags or targets to make the driving range more interesting & fun. There are some old stadium lights on the range that haven't worked in YEARS. If they fixed those & had a driving range open at night, that would be HUGE.
3. Too casual: No shirt, No shoes, NO PROBLEM! I like it sometimes but some people push it a little too far!
4. Golf Carts: The last cart I drove had bad brakes & the pedal kept getting stuck & I couldn't get it to release. I spent 1/2 the round messing with the pedal or driving with the brake on.

OVERALL: Great course in an even better location! Just needs a few updates but NOT a deal breaker by any means!

I think Quail creek deserves a good review, not the review that says, "it Rocks" but a review that will help you choose if this is the golf course for you. I moved to North Liberty in 2011. I didn't have anywhere to go to play golf for a reasonable price that i could just play and learn the game. I found a home at Quail Creek. I paid $420 for a student summer pass that included all the golf I wanted to play and trust me I played almost daily. Quail creek is a 9 hole golf course that will not only test your skills to hit the ball straight but keep you coming back again and again. I like to describe Quail Creek at the Thai food place in the strip mall that is a diamond in the rough. It's not a place where you pull in and see marvelous gardens and a bag boy waiting on you. The road is a little rough but it's not going to ruin your vehicle like some mentioned. The clubhouse is a little dark and only takes cash, There is an ATM inside so don't worry if you forget. They have a bar to load up on your favorite 6 pack before you hit the course. Don't expect a captain and coke however as they don't sell liquor. The carts get the job done, not top of the line by any means. If your a walker this course is for you. Not to many hills and a very pleasant walk. The first hole is one of my favorites. It's par 5 to start with a grass bunker on the left of the fairway and tree trouble on the right of the tee. It's reachable for the long hitters but be careful as there is a creek over the ridge so risk vs reward. The greens here are the best in the Iowa City area. The grounds crew do an outstanding job at maintaining the quality in these greens. Few divot marks and roll absolutely pure. The is undulation in almost every green so in order to score low your mid-game needs to be spot on. It's true they don't water the fairways so if its a drought they fairways may be a little hard. The greens however are in excellent condition year round. The par 3's on this course are tough yet worth coming for! #7 is a 150-180 yard shot with a pond before and hugging the left side. Very fun and intimidating!!! The staff at Quail Creek is more than friendly and knows you by name and will be happy to share a beverage with ya on the 19th or 10th hole. If you haven't been out here come out in give it a shot. I promise ya you'll come back!!! It's true you can golf out here without a shirt or in cut off jeans. No judgement here!!! If you're looking for a prestigious golf course with white sand and flowers this isn't your place. If you're looking for a diamond in the rough that will test your skills as a golfer. Maybe a place to bring your buddies and drink a case of beer. Come out to Quail Creek and see what all the buzz is about!!!!

I would give this course 5 stars if I was rating just the course. The greens are by far the best in the area. You rarely get an untrue roll. The fairways can be ugly during dry times in July/August. The layout of the course is diverse and challenging. Out of bounds is always to the left, so its a right hander paradise. The par 5s are both unique. The 1st has a blind downhill second shot and the 5th has a blind uphill second shot. The 6th and 7th holes are the stars of this course. They are challenging but fair water holes.
The course also has some downsides. The clubhouse is dated. They do not take credit/debit which probably does hinder business. The entrance road is rough as hell but you just need to slow down. Management is laid back-- which is great--but can lead to some issues. Regulars do tend to group into large matches and some will jump out to random holes. Yes, they let people go shirtless, but who really cares? All in all, a good course for decent prices.

I'm from Cedar Rapids and I still try to make it down to this course at least once a month because its such a great time. The staff is about the most friendly and knowledgeable you can find and they actually remember my name everytime I come in. As far as the course goes, it is well maintained, fun but challenging. A really laid back type of golf course that will challenge your skills with its many water hazards. My favorite hole is #7 which is a par 3 with a water hazard surrounding half the hole. Will keep playing this course every year because I never have a bad time!!

I thought we were reviewing the course, not the road? This course is great when there is rain. It plays long and can be challenging. Driving range is a joke, don't use it. The greens are the best in the area. Unfortunately, this is considered a white trash course. Owner allows golfers to play with their shirts off, etc. This could easily be the best 9 hole course in the state/region if a new owner took over and give it some TLC.

***They only take cash, so make sure you get some before you get to the rundown club house.
