I just started my 2nd 12 week resistance training program at Front Door Fitness with Britney who is a power lifter. Britney’s training is defined by her attention to detail, ensuring the client understands and maintains proper form. She prioritizes warm-up and stretching to prevent injury. Britney is an experienced trainer, with a patient, positive attitude! She explains movements clearly, and adapts to my individual needs, which defines a great personal trainer!

John, the owner, is so nice and this gym has everything you need for a good workout! It also has nice amenities like massage guns and foam rollers for recovery. I was totally new to strength training before this, and FDF has been an amazing experience for me. I've been working out with Jack, and he has been really helpful. I honestly would have had no idea where to start by myself, but through our sessions I've seen so much progress already. Jack not only curates a workout for me during our sessions, but he also helped me create a weekly workout schedule outside of when he comes over. He gave me the tools that I need to continue my fitness journey, even long after I stop doing training sessions. My whole experience so far has been amazing.

I have been working out in the FDF studio for about 4 months with my trainer Jack. I am returning to the gym after several years of intense low back pain and sciatica. Jack has honored my request to start out easy. He checks in on my back during workouts and makes sure I am feeling okay overall. I am already feeling a lot stronger and my workouts have advanced as I have. This is the cleanest gym. It is not crowded and it is a safe environment. The staff are friendly and respectful, the other clients are too. I would definitely recommend FDF and Jack.

I trained with Austin for about 8 months and I can't recommend him enough! As someone who was completely new to lifting, I was slightly nervous at first. Austin was incredibly patient and super supportive from day one. He made sure to explain the movements clearly, making sure I felt comfortable with each new exercise set. I've been doing one-on-one training with Cameron at Front Door Fitness for about six months now and I can't recommend it enough! As someone who was always intimidated by lifting weights, I was nervous to get started but Cameron's friendly and encouraging personality immediately put me at ease. He takes the time to explain everything in a way that is approachable, and makes sure to focus on proper form and progress with each exercise. Like other reviews, I’m also conflicted about over-sharing this BEST kept secret called Front Door Fitness. :) After years of attempting cheap chain gyms, bougie gyms, group classes, doing my own thing, etc. Front Door Fitness has been just what I was needing for this “Goldilocks”. I was searching for affordable personalized training in an unpretentious setting close to my home. I got so much more. The intake is very thorough and personalized with an interview that succeeded in matching me with a personal trainer who would vibe with me and my goals. The most unique service is that the trainers will go to the client (home, work, virtual, etc.) or meet up at the gym, which I thought is amazing. I’ve been consistently working with BEN TORRES for the past 8 months-ish and he’s done wonders to my perimenopausal stiff/frozen shoulders I had. My ROM was quite limited and it hurt to sleep, etc. I’ve gained all of my ROM without any pain after about 2 months, which has now allowed me to start lifting heavier weights and aiming for new goals! Ben is super down to earth, motivating but not pushy, knows how to challenge and keeps the workouts variable just enough to leave me excited to come back and continue. Sometimes, it’s hard to quantify the gym progress into daily functional life. Recently, during the snowstorm, I shoveled my entire corner lot driveway and sidewalks for 2 hours effortlessly without feeling like I was going to die! As someone in my 50s, I’m aiming to have strong bones, muscles, good balance, and stay injury free and do feel like Ben has me on that long term wellness path. I appreciate the diversity of trainers and clients - people of all ages, sizes, backgrounds that look like a slice of real life just trying to get healthy.

I was looking for a little help getting restarted on my fitness. I was feeling paralyzed to start by how out of shape that I felt.
After talking through my goals with John, he thought Austin would be a great fit, and he was right!
We started off building up a base level of fitness, matching right where I was at. Over the 4 months that I have worked out with Austin, he continued to keep things interesting and challenging. I've learned new exercises, workout structures, and am feeling better than I have for a long time. Maybe more importantly, the encouraging, positive and friendly coaching created an environment of looking forward to the workouts, not dreading them.
I cannot recommend the personal attention from FrontDoor Fitness enough. They will meet you right where you are at (both literally and figuratively), with the coaching and expertise to get you where you want to be.

My wife and I knew this was a fit from the moment we stepped into the building. Honestly, I was reluctant to write a review because I really didn’t want anyone else finding out about this place. It’s been a great find and the staff is super helpful to work with. Exercising can be intimidating when you don’t know where to start or what to do. This is comfortable place to learn and grow as you lean into a somewhat daunting task. Creating a new rhythm and a new you isn’t easy and is best done with the help of others who can help you out. I spent a while looking for a personal trainer that hit what I needed: clear, upfront pricing and effective, but not brutal, training that got results. I have found both at FDF! I've spent a little under a year, once a week, training with Jessica. Nothing has changed my life more! I feel myself getting stronger each session and I am so, so, so lucky to have her guidance. I've been lucky to interact with other trainers in passing, as well as John for payments and such, and always feel welcomed in the gym. I get flexibility during life events (virtual training!) and understanding and compassion when life does get ahead of training. If you are looking for a gym or personal trainer that is holistic and understanding of the person training, I recommend emailing Front Door Fitness and getting yourself started. In December of 2021, right after I turned 55, my bone scan (first one ever) showed a T-Score of -2.4, one tenth of a point away from full-on osteoporosis. My best friend sent me a list of personal trainers and Julie O’Dell with Front Door Fitness has been a perfect fit for me. She has been nothing short of AMAZING! She teaches me custom workouts that work just for me and then I take it from there two more times each week. In just 8 months, we brought my T-Score up to -1.9! My doctor is so impressed with my improvement and is no longer suggesting that I take the bone-builder medicine that was to be the next course of action if strength training didn’t work. I am so grateful for Julie, her positivity, for her know-how, and for pushing me to reach my goals… but not so much that I wind up injuring myself. AND with my busy schedule, there would have been no way for me to work in a trip out of town to a specialty gym to make this happen. It’s been one of the best things ever to be able to work with her… in my own home. And we aren’t done. Hopefully, in another few years, osteopenia will be a memory. THANK YOU, JULIE!! I have been to several gyms, and each gym has its culture that leans either towards toxic gym broness or helpful, compassionate gym siblinghood that fosters great relationships with its clients. The degree to which I would recommend this gym to anyone looking for a friendly, professional and simply awesome gym culture that welcomes one and all—can’t be sufficiently expressed here. John Brock, one of the head honchos here, knows his stuff, is an awesome individual, and offers incredible training advice. The other trainers match the gym’s atmosphere: simply great, friendly people. Whether you want an affordable gym membership, a personal trainer only, or a combination of both, this place has it! One of the best perks is that the gym is ensconced in Olde Town Overland Park, one of the greatest areas in the entire Metro Area, so is pretty centrally located.

I’ve been a member at Front Door Fitness for about a year and a half now. From the first day I walked through the door I felt welcomed. All of the trainers are friendly and I’ve never felt judged. I was paired with Austin as my trainer and he has been so great to work with! My work schedule can sometimes be crazy and he is always willing to reschedule my sessions if needed each week. I always thought I would work with a trainer for 6 months or so and then eventually move on to training myself but Front Door Fitness has become a staple for my health and fitness journey. My experience when visiting Front Door Fitness has always been positive and uplifting. Every trainer is encouraging and does whatever it takes to ensure you're getting the most out of the scheduled session. Kenny is an amazing trainer who goes above and beyond during every session. On days where my body is struggling to complete an entire set, he will modify the set to fit my bodies needs and/or positively encourage me to put forth my best effort. On days when my body is feeling strong, he finds ways to further challenge my energy. He is also very flexible with scheduling/modifying future sessions. The facility is always clean and carries a positive atmosphere. The entire staff cares about me, even the trainers who aren't assisting me directly know my name and encourage me to be successful. As someone who has struggled with lower back pain and other issues recently, I can’t recommend Lindsey Garman and FDF enough. She strengthened my pain points and then built from there to where I’m able to do all the lifts I used to perform, but with better form, engaging my core, etc. She holds you accountable, tortures you and you come back excited for more!

Everyone I have met has been incredibly helpful. My first consult was a great starting point to identify my goals and targets. While I have plenty of weight to lose, my goals are about strength and routine and I appreciate how the team has supported MY goals, not constantly pushing for weight loss. I was perfectly paired with my trainer and we have a lot of similarities. He is punctual and consistent, doesn’t complain about working out in my cold and grimy garage, and makes the hour fly by. Ive had the pleasure of training with Kyron for over a year. Due to an injury, I was unable to train as easily as I used to and Kyron created a program for me that allowed me to exercise correctly and pain free. He’s perhaps an even better listener than he is a trainer (and he’s an excellent trainer). Meaning, he doesn’t have a one-size-fits-all approach and appropriately caters to your needs, comfort, and goals.
In a time in my life when I was unsure of what my body was capable of, Kyron led the way with ease and professionalism before and after my surgery. I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my physical goals!

I've been using FDF for 4 months now. My trainer arrives either early or on time every single session. It's super convenient to be able to text with my trainer regarding schedule changes. My trainer is knowledgable, and tailors my workouts to my specific needs. In the past 4 months, my endurance, stamina and muscle tone have increased noticeably. I have been working out with Emily for about 2 years now! During the pandemic, I have been able to keep up the workouts - it's the perfect set up for social distancing. We have the gym to ourselves and with both of us wearing masks, we feel very safe. She goes out of her way to schedule my sessions to be convenient and safe. Remote training can be challenging for some trainers but not for Lindsey Garman. She can be 'sweat producingly' creative with whatever is available. Have loved my experience working with Lindsey Garman at Front Door Fitness. The boot camp classes have made it like a personal training session, but with a small group. This allows me to get in more training and getting to be with a rad group of people and being a little bit competitive. Lindsey is very knowledgeable about what she is programming for us to do. No two classes are the same. I had some previous back and a shoulder injuries and she told me and helped me rehab them both and I am back to lifting with no pain. She pushes you to continue to get better plus has an infectious personality that keeps you coming back for more. She is also a nutritionist and has helped me figure out what works for my body and keeps it simple for me to follow. She is your biggest cheerleader. I lost 10 lbs in 6 months and felt the best I have in a long time. I’m now currently pregnant and still able to continue my work outs with her. Come try out a class you are sure to love it and come back for more.

I have been using trainers from Front Door Fitness for almost 10 years now. That’s a long time, so naturally, the individual trainers have turned over several times. The first time that happened I was filled with trepidation because I had bonded closely with the young woman who first introduced me to personal training. I was fearful that someone different would never be the same. While I was correct that someone different would be different, it has kept the process interesting for all these years. Each trainer has been excellent. Each one brings a little bit different take on the process.
I am 66 years old. I have three artificial joints. I have to be very careful not to injure myself. Each trainer I have had from Front Door is highly professional, often trained like a physical therapist. I know I can trust the trainers to push me to excellence but make sure I don’t hurt myself in the process.
When I first started with Front Door, I was working. The trainers would meet me at my employer’s gym and we would train there. After I retired, the trainers came to my community and we used my community’s facilities. However, to save a little money, I now go to Front Door’s own facility in Prairie Village. It is clean and well equipped. Even though it is small, it is bright and works great.
I have used both male and female trainers. I really enjoy both. My current trainer, Morgan, is just delightful. She is highly reliable, very professional, smart, well read and well informed. That makes for great conversation and the hour goes by in a flash. I would highly recommend Front Door Fitness to help anyone improve their overall health and physique.

Andy Garner has been working with both of my parents who are in their 70s and have dementia. He is dedicated, energetic and caring. He is understanding of their limitations, but still pushes them to improve. He works with them on balance, cardiovascular fitness and strength training.
If there is ever a concern on how they are doing, he is not afraid to contact me and make me aware. His work with them is invaluable and I am convinced he is adding on years to their lives. I am so thankful for Andy and all that he does for them.
