Things need to change. I've been a member since you came to town and I am in the gym 5:30 am daily. The place is a mess. You can finds weights left everywhere. Half the time you have to look for dumbbells over in the blue carpeted area. Today one of the class started taking dumb bells from the weight room and taking them to a class leaving the rest of us without dumb bells for 1 hr. (UNACCEPTABLE). This place is not being managed in the evening.

Not only did they tell me they'd get a salt water indoor pool at the 29th steet location (which was actually NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN) but they just overcharge and promise more than they ever actually accomplished. We had our sons birthday party at the SW location and was beyond impressed with the set up and how easy Bryan made the party flow. He made our son feel so special and did a phenomenal job with a rowdy group of boys. We look forward to booking another party in the future.

I joined Genesis years ago. I love that they take care of my small humans while I work out. My son is 14 now and works out. Bought him a shake card, they keep on file, so he can get protien shakes with creatine and glutamine after his workout. Its a short walk from the house giving him freedom and a positive place to get away.

Im writing this with much trepidation, so here goes. I secured membership and paid in advance 1 year of a personal trainer for my goal to lose weight. I did this without consulting my psychologist. Big mistake. You see, im a veteran and suffer from severe PTSD, Anxiety and Depression. Thinking I could overcome these issues by having my brother accompanying me, thinking I'd be ok. How wrong I was. I tried over medicating coupled with alcohol to continue my quest to lose weight. This action did not end well. Well when I attempted to refill my crazy pill script early, my shrink recognizing that I should not have run out this early, well she had me come clean. Now for my issue. Im aware I signed a contract. I'm simply asking for any consideration for the $1,200 paid in advance (think I used 1 of those paid sessions), to include the monthly dues of $89 for one year. I made 3 attempts for management to reach back out to me. Nobody contacted me. I even emailed Allen Schoonover (corporate). Again, crickets. In closing, congratulations, Genesis, you did and are still going to get your money. Followup. Allen did reach out to me by phone. I short he will not assist me with my membership and $1,200 advance payment. So be it, I hold no ill will. My issue is his questioning advice/instruction given me by my psychiatrist and telling me to buckup (unsure if that was the word), but you get the idea. Furthermore I instructed this Allen I wish to cancel my membership. Now two weeks later I was billed again. I immediately called, Kyle who was very nice and professional canceled my membership however he did say had I called 1 day sooner I would have saved 1 more months membership due to their 30 day cancelation policy. I paid that additional $100 cancelation fee. Congratulations Allen, you got your $$.

It's the gym. Some guys forget to wear deodorant, some of the machines could use a little TLC, but overall it's a comfortable gym where, in my experience, people keep to themselves.

I do wish they would replace their dumbbells with the octagonal ones so they stopped rolling away, but that a site, there are tons of machines, and a racquetball court, and a tennis court, and maybe a pool? I think most Genesis facilities have a pool, I just haven't looked for the one here.

This is definitely the superior Genesis compared to the one on the north side of Topeka.

Jeff and all staff are great! I have reported multiple times about water temp/pressure in the Men's locker room - NON-EXISTENT! It doesn't seem like it matters, bc nothing is ever done about this. Only one shower in men's locker room has any pressure. Hot water is ALWAYS questionable. For someone that would like to take a decent shower before heading to work, this is very important. FIX THIS ISSUE!! Also, finding an open locker at 6am is always a challenge as they are all locked, but nobody is in the gym! I find it hard to believe that 90% of the lockers are rented out.

I've been a member for over 20 years and appreciate my gym. However, I've noticed that I am consistently searching for an open locker in the locker rooms. If you guys are going to do personal training especially the senior silver sneaker training during the day…can you not do 5 customers in a row all using the exact same machines one after the other? It makes it impossible for me to get my gym routine done that I pay a large amount monthly for. Can’t you create another gym downstairs for the silver sneakers training? You either need to get more equipment or you shouldn’t be doing 5 back to back customers all doing the same work out with 1 trainer trying to get them all done at the same time because then I waited for an hour just to try to use the machines. They also use the most highly used ones…it’s hogging the machines and unfair to others. Please be more considerate of your other customers. It is inconsiderate and poorly thought out of a professional trainer to do 5+ senior citizens all doing the same workout at the same time making it to where no one else can use the machines (which they’re using 6 or more and going in rotation with 5+ customers). It’s irritating.

Please require people to wear SHIRTS. Too many women in sports bras and men taking shirts off. There is kids that come here for lessons, classes, sports, and more. This is a public place. I went to this gym about 3 different times and my last time was the worst. I was harassed by one of the “employees”/members, he gave me no room to do my workout and started making inappropriate gestures, he also tried snatching the barbell from me while I was cleaning up. He was so close that he stepped on my weight and it slid back and hit me. I told the manager and all he could do is request an “apology” but he could continued to stay. The environment is not friendly and the staff don’t care about how people are treated!!!! Also the contract steals money from you even when you had a horrible experience.

This Genesis location is great for everyone. From the basketball court to tennis courts, to an outdoor pool and lots of options for a beginner like me to feel comfortable getting my workout in. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. If you're not sure where to start, ask for Josh. He does a great job of making someone feel comfortable to join and can even help with training and nutrition. I think my favorite feature is the locker room. You don't need a lock, they have them built in. Also the steam room is great. Couldn't recommend joining this location more.

Love the gym and it's services it offers unfortunately after being a member for many years I can't recommend going here and I'm going to have to cancel my membership. The Gym has severely gone down hill in the past year in terms of cleanness and upkeep. The bathrooms, steam rooms, and gym equipment look like they are rarely cleaned and maintained and don't get me started on the tennis and basketball courts. Hopefully one day it can be restored to its former glory but for now I can't recommend going here. Thankfully Topeka has many gym options to choose from.

Watch out for the tennis lessons, especially if you're not a member. The instructor is great but Genesis policies are not. I was quoted a price for tennis lessons for my child, then a few lessons in they told me I had to not only pay for the lessons but also an additional guest fee for my child since he's not a member. That makes no sense. I'm paying Genesis for the lessons and the lessons are provided at Genesis. So how does the amount I'm paying not also accommodate my child as a guest? They only providing the lessons at their facility--the 'guest' part is implied!

The right way to do this is to charge a flat fee, then give your members a discount, not charge a fee then tack more onto it because you want to pressure people into signing a membership contract.

Needless to say, I'll be looking elsewhere for a tennis instructor.

Here on travel for work and went in and spoke with Rhonda (General Manager) about a week pass. She gave me a tour of their very clean and very wide open gym and an idea of what all they had to offer.

I came back to check in for my first workout and everyone at the front desk greeted me by first name like I had been a member there for years.

Had great workouts throughout the entire week and very thankful for the hospitality and professionalism shown within SW Genesis from the moment I walked through the door.

Worst health club I've ever dealt with! The machines are fine, but the membership sign-up/termination process is awful. Prior to signing a contract, Colin (a manager) and I had an agreement that I would not pay for a frozen membership – I travel to Topeka every few months. The frozen membership is typically $10 a month.

However, upon terminating the membership due to switching gyms, they are asking for retroactive frozen membership fees?? Take your money elsewhere, and definitely have a lawyer review your membership contract – do not make the mistake of taking Sales for their word.

I have been trying for over three months to suspend my membership. I use the membership in the summer for water exercise. I love that program. I have been successful in the past being able to suspend my membership so I can use it in the summer. This year the General Manager has told me that my membership is suspended, but it is not and I keep getting my membership dues taken out. I was told I would get a refund for the last two months but not only no refund but another monthly dues taken out again! I am going to be forced to cancel and no more water exercise that I love, but worry I will never see my refund of three months now! Very disappointed!!!

I have largely been disappointed with Genesis. Many times there have been several machines that are not working, and it takes weeks for them to be repaired.
I called several times to set up a time for my introductory personal training session but never received a call back. I've been a member for about 10 months and have never received that introductory session.
All in all, I believe that I get just as much from 2 other fitness clubs in Topeka, at less that 1/4 the cost.

UPDATE: Sadly, i stopped in town to visit some people and came here to see about a 3 day pass. When i walked through, it was not cool inside, equipment was down, bathroom was not clean. It has dropped off quite a bit since i was there last time. Staff was friendly, but not very knowledgeable... I asked about machines for exercising abductors and adductors and she said "What the heck is that".... I had also asked about machines for anterior, lateral and posterior delts and she had no clue.

Jeff over at Genesis Health Clubs South West Topeka location got me super pumped about becoming a member, and I’ve been at the gym almost every day since I got my membership. Great facility, the staff is awesome and super friendly, everything I was looking for in a gym is what Jeff helped me find, wouldn’t be back at it to reach my goals of competing again if it wasn’t for his great service.

Genesis Health Club is a large establishment staff is welcoming unlike other gems this one does offer a tennis court in an outdoor pool indoors equipment is a little old but for working out it's an okay gym typical stuff Genesis Health Club does offer yoga classes and other physical activities a wide variety of options locker rooms are clean they provide towels and necessities shower stuff they have a sauna the inside of the gym does not have many windows there are mirrors to look at yourself which is great for mental Improvement on your physical form if you want to check out Genesis you can start a 7-Day trial for free no sign up which is a great option for someone just looking into getting a gym membership or who wants to check out the gym a membership can be expensive knowing that you should consider is going to a gym for you there are some things that are missing out like a track run the equipment is a little old but it is a large establishment with a full basketball court and more

Genesis is by far the best gym in Topeka. Very clean, nice staff, overall great place to workout at. Jeff is very thorough and took his time explaining all the amenities Genesis offers. Took me on a walkthrough throughout the club. Love this place!

Bars are bent. Not enough bar end clamps for barbells, which is dangerous if you're in the middle of a lift and weight shifts. Dumbells are broken and not replaced. No one re-racks their weight. Machines are poorly maintained, you can often find loose bolts or screws on the machine you're using. If a cable breaks, expect it to take about two months to be repaired. Hours posted on the door aren't accurate, they close at 6pm on Saturdays instead of 8pm...as posted. Roof leaks when it rains. No bike racks for those who'd like to bike to the gym, so good luck there. The rubber floor covering has areas where it's bubbling up, and un-even, hasn't been addressed in years.

This gym is like family. I found lifelong friendships , abs I forgot I had ;), and more energy than I had two decades ago. Best decision I ever made was to reluctantly try a spin class. The rest is history.

This gym has so many classes and such a great group of instructors! It's clean, friendly and has so much to offer! They have classes all morning and afternoon and every day of the week. I can always find a class to attend. The people that take the classes are fun too. It's just a great atmosphere. Everyone is so friendly and motivating. Definitely worth the membership cost which is reasonable for what they offer.

Hands down the best place in Topeka for classes. They offer Group Power (strength training), barre (toning, core and conditioning) yoga, Group Centergy (Pilates /yoga), cycle classes, aquatics, etc. The instructors show variations so everyone feels successful. My workouts don’t feel like work anymore! I WANT to be there.
