Been coming for years and for the price why do I have to suffer. It smells like a dumpster upstairs people working out barefoot with nasty toes it’s horrendous paying 200$ and it’s dirtier than a hotel gym get it together

As a customer, I highly appreciate the staff and services at LifeTime Overland Park. The food from the LifeCafe is quality, fresh, and delicious. It's apparent how well it is managed. The Kids Center staff are kind and responsive. The gym equipment is helpful and I appreciate the variety. Specifically, the GTX classes are top tier. I see trainers always working hard with clients.
The front desk staff are welcoming.
I personally LOVE that there are so many kids running around LifeTime with their parents - brings joy to my day. My own kids have fun making new friends in the Kids Center while I workout, and the regulars in the Cafe are always so kind and friendly to my kids when we order food there regularly. We spend hours in the LifeCafe when we visit.
I could go on. Love this gym.

Gym is fantastic but -

This is another scammer Gym. I been a member at this gym when I joined its $99 and then after a year I did added my wife for $60 plus tax I used to $pay 180 something. After 5 months I removed my wife since no longer uses it which I suppose to pay $99 again instead of that they made a contract with new membership as $159 what a joke. Time to move on.

Gym looks nice at surface level but once you start going consistently there are flaws. it’s overpriced and poorly managed. StairMasters and treadmills are often broken, Pilates costs extra on top of $200+ a month, and the free classes take over the gym during peak hours. Girls’ locker room locks are always jammed. Machines are dirty, people don’t wipe down, come in sick..and there are kids everywhere, yelling and running around. Staff is very nice, but that’s about it

The rate is up to $190 per individual now lol. After tax it is like $210. You could lease a Toyota Corolla for that. The gym is good but really packed during peak hours. What really disappoints me is the fact that they used to be 24 hours and now they have reduced hours. It was so convenient for those long days in the office or if I just wanted to get a jumpstart on my day. I really don’t understand their thought process. There is an employee at the gym 24 hours a day either way. They reduced the hours during the pandemic and they never changed them back. I find this sort of conduct to be opportunistic and manipulative. The weekend hours are even worse. I don’t know anybody who goes to bed at 10 pm on a Saturday. I remember there used to be a vibrant basketball community that absolutely killed. Teenagers and adults would stay here until midnight or 1 in the morning on the weekends and play basketball and then the teenagers would go get snacks at QuikTrip. I think playing basketball with your friends at the gym late at night is much better than what teenagers usually do at night. Lifetime used to be a cornerstone of the community but they absolutely killed it. Also, be prepared to be stared down by the lady at the front desk if you walk out a minute past 11 and to hear obnoxious warnings over the intercom about how they are closed and that all members should have been out of the gym by now. I don’t think they’re saving any money by closing for five hours while still having staff on hand. All they’re doing is creating frustration between their staff and the members and killing the vibrant community.

I previously left a review stating that the price continues to increase making it not worth it. After a month at another local gym I take it all backπŸ˜‚ If you are going for the gym alone, there are definitely other gyms that will get the job done for much cheaper but LT Kid’s Academy is 100% worth paying the high membership dues. The workers are INCREDIBLE and they have way more policies in place for safety and quality care compared to other gym daycares. I love that they aren’t just popped in front of a tv while workers sit on their phones.

I have been a member for 29 years. Have been to several from MN to TX and to VA. The cost of membership is very reasonable. Just step back and take a good hard look at what all is included. Prices are up - sure well everything else is up thanks to.... So what do you expect. I can go to nearly 175 clubs - No I am not an owner nor work here - I just know if you break it down and realize what you get and understand how hard it is to maintain and update a place like this. So maybe quit buying $8 dollar coffees or $15 drinks. Whats your health worth? Maybe go to a cheaper gym and see what you get. Sorry but I'll put my money in something that is healthy and gives me so many choices. Classes - Weights - Cardio - Swimming - Pickleball - more... Just saying - your choice - think about it

Horrible customer service. Went in for a day pass which I’ve done several times before and they wanted me to download an app. I didn’t want to do that and have never been asked to do that before. I asked if they could look up my account and they said well I have to sign up on the app. Again never once have I ever had to do that. Then they finally said we don’t have to have an account. And told me 43 for the day. Well my wallet is in my truck and my account had my card on file. So now I have to go back out and get my wallet because they didn’t have tap pay! Not convenient and left me just frustrated. Probably need to train your staff to make it easier for your customers rather then inconvenient!

The supervisors at this gym exhibited unprofessionalism, and lack of trustworthiness, deception, and misleading information. The gym is overpriced! I've been a member 7 yrs... really starting to wonder how dues can continue to be raised. The kids club has never gone back to regular hours - and even got cut back so if someone wants to do any evening class, it can be very difficult to do so with kiddos in tow. Friday evenings there is no coverage which is a great night for parents to work out or even go out. We were actually charged a guest pass for bringing my spouse's 11 yr old daughter this month - we've been bringing her more than several times and always had a waiver on file. We do not buy a membership because we only have her every other weekend during the school year, and if or when she comes with us the time we have her in the summer, she walks on the treadmill with us and does not even use the kids club. Yet somehow they couldn't find her waiver on file, and also charged us the guest pass for a minor (have never experienced that). I've brought my young nieces in the past, no issues like that.
The equipment is becoming dirtier and dirtier - not seeming to ever be cleaned (photo included). I have been to much smaller gyms where the upkeep is ten times more mindful. The plate holders were taken out and now there seems to be a constant fight for plates, and we have even had members take plates off of mine or my spouse's bar in the middle of our sets with no ask or courtesy to at least try to share.
It is a hard battle to choose to stay or go. I love the dance classes and they are a big reason I stay, as well as the pool amenities - but even that has become difficult and overpriced. Not sure what can be done at this point to dissuade us from leaving once our baby is due in March.

Life Time Fitness has a ton of space and lots of different classes to choose from, which is really great. Alpha can be great. Autumn at Life Spa is the best.

On the downside, it's frustrating that there's often not enough weight plates. Even more, it gets way too hot in the gym. They seriously need to turn up the AC or install some more fans.

For the cost of the membership, it's reasonable to expect more. Better equipment, especially more plates, and a cooler environment would really make it worth the price. So, it's a bit of a mixed bag right now. 2.5 stars from me.

From 5 star to 1 star. We've all been asking for plates for over a year, nothing. 25% of the equipment isn't usable when there's not enough weights in the gym. It's such an easy purchase but yall continue to ignore and we suffer. Do better management. Time to find another gym.

I've loved going to Lifetime Fitness for a few years now, however, the recent changes have made it burdensome. First, they increased the membership fee and claimed that doing so was necessary in light of inflation. However, the increase was far more than inflation at the time they increased the rate.

They also stopped operating for 24 hours, so shouldn't that have addressed inflation, at least to an extent? Then, they REMOVE an entire basketball court, which was used all the time by several people, and replace it with pickleball. They failed to survey any of the gym-goers prior to making this decision, and this was not well received by several people that I know who use this gym, including myself. They also did not have to remove the basketball court altogether for others to play pickleball. They could have simply placed the pickleball equipment on the court and left it there, so the court could still be used for basketball during busy basketball hours.

I can't help but think that the basketball court removal had an alternative motive, especially when considering the lack of surveying and the disparate impact it had on several of those who enjoy playing basketball, but I can't confirm my assumption without any evidence.

The reduced hours, and increased membership fee should have more than adequately addressed whatever inflationary pressures the gym was allegedly facing. All things considered, these changes have made going to the gym a far less enjoyable experience than a few years ago. They will claim all such changes are necessary to maintain the experience they have/elevate the current experience, yet they fail to specify what exactly those benefits are/will be. In addition, whatever changes they have made (such as including toiletries in the locker room, making small outside building changes, or adding hardwood) should already be addressed by the membership fee.

If you've managed to make it to the end of this review, I would suggest going to Lenexa, although they too are making similar changes to their gym, including the addition of a pickleball court. It also has fewer people, so I would certainly suggest it ahead of the Overland Park location.

I was very disappointed tonight when I brought a friend who was looking to join a gym to use one of my guest passes. When we were greeted I was told I could not bring a guest after 9pm. What sense does this make if your gym is open until 11pm. They wouldn’t make an exception and we drove 30 minutes just to work out to get turned away.

Still probably the best gym in town but with some senseless policies and shortened hours post covid.

1 star because the trainer there with dark skin pigmentation only so you know who I’m talking about that always hangs out at the desk at the top of the stairs used to laugh at me and make fun of me to my trainer Corbin who I was paying to train me right in front of me several times. People’s intent to make you feel bad can be very discouraging. Just very poor customer service. I didn’t hate on him back because I wanted to do the right thing and be mature about it but years later it was still a horrible experience to remember and makes me never want to workout at this location ever again even though I grew up going there.. I forgive him but for the sake of other people thinking about hiring a personal fitness trainer here I would go to the LifeTime Fitness in Lenexa if you want to be respected and workout in peace.

Best gym around imo. Can be a little pricey depending on how you set up your contract but i feel like you get what you pay for. Amenities are pretty good. I personally use almost everything from cardio equipment and weights, to the recreational stuff like racketball, pickleball and lap-pool. If you think you will use most aspects of the gym, I don't see why it isn't a good option. It's especially nice in the summer when the outdoor pool opens up. Would reccomend!

When I do visit this Lifetime, I always feel at home with a sense of familiarity. Some things I like about this Lifetime Fitness: I appreciate having body wash, shampoo, and conditioner in all the showers. The locker rooms are kept clean. Towel service in the locker room has always been consistent and good. The gym itself has a wide variety of equipment ranging from free weights to general cardio. I appreciate the number of squat racks, treadmills, and benches they have available.

Things that would be nice to have changed but aren't really all that annoying: The pools are never cold enough coming from someone who's spent many years swimming competitively. In addition, I'd like to have more options than just 3 different news channels on the TVs in the cardio area. I come to the gym to get away from the real world, not hear about it in triplicate.

The main thing keeping my review from being higher: The amount of times there have been no towels on the gym floor. I sweat a lot. I pay a lot for this membership. I would expect that the staff at the gym can keep a constant supply of small towels on the gym floor.

I like the amenities of the gym. The downfall is overcrowding and no one wipes machines down when they are done. I’ve never been to a gym where there aren’t signs stating to wipe machines down when done. Very gross and such a disappointment.

One of the rudest front desk people you will ever meet. Glad, me and my family moved our membership. The front desk people don’t really want to help you even if they can. They will say the lamest reasons possible to get you out of their sight.

Avoid this place at all sorts.

The best gym in KC IMO! All the employees are awesome. A ton of machines and free weights so you can get a workout in even during peak hours. Cardio machines galore. Wet sauna, dry sauna, hot tub, indoor and outdoor pools! What more do you need? I frequent both locations in KC.

Just checking in out. Equipment looked old and kinda dirty. Not sure cleaning is the priority. Definitely looked like they need to upgrade some things. Nice pool, and courts. Hard to see the ROI on 100 bucks per month.

Just cancelled membership after 4 years of regularly working out there. It’s clear that corporate/management at lifetime doesn’t care about me or my interests. They’ve actively made efforts to suppress basketball culture and those who play the game from coming to the gym. Not only did they increase the gym membership cost by over 10% post covid, but simultaneously reduced gym hours by almost 20%. Besides this poorly run and managed gym, the members and personal trainers are great. Maybe one day they will get proper management in there that knows how to cater to loyal customers, but it is far from that at this point.

Overall the gym is nice, but they need to update a lot of the weight machines as well as add a couple more leg extension and leg curl machines. For the amount of members this club has you would think they would be able to accommodate the headcount with more of the most popular equipment as well as "newer" equipment.

If you'd asked me before March 2020, what I thought of this Lifetime Location, I would've have given it 5 stars. Everything WAS great. Classes, cleanliness, pool, locker rooms & customer service. Then Covid hit and as a healthcare provider I didn't feel comfortable working out in a HEALTH club that wasn't providing social distancing and where 99% of the clientele were unmasked. So they put our membership "on-hold" and charged us $15/month plus tax except for the brief period they were completely forced to close by the county. Then July 2021 we decided we wanted to start using the outdoor pool, so we rejoined just for that. In order to get to the pool, you must walk down a long hallway and through a locker room to reach it. Covid rates are very high at the local hospital where I work as a critical care nurse and I mask in ALL indoor public spaces and follow the CDC Guidelines. Note: I never saw a single other member wear a mask besides my parter. So I would wear a mask until I got outside, then remove it. Every time I came to check-in with a mask on, the employees who scan you in, would snicker amongst themselves, clearly making fun of my mask. Pre-covid as I would depart the club, someone would always say have a good day. I never once heard a "have a good day" when I wore my mask as I exited the club. Then after several phone calls and emails back and forth with Carter about downgrading our membership to a digital one once the pool closed, we had multiple billing errors. So Labor Day weekend I went into the club to make sure I was no longer being charged for an in-person membership and that the Digital Membership that I had requested in writing 30 days prior would begin Sept 1, 2021. I was directed to "Carsen" and taken back to a small membership office where social distancing isn't possible. So I asked her to put on a mask and she said I don't have one. So I offered to give her a new disposable mask and she said no, I've been vaccinated. As of the date of this interaction, the CDC Guidelines were for ALL people over the age of 5 to be masked indoors when social distancing wasn't possible. So after her refused, I got upset and started educating her on % of fully vaccinated people who have been hospitalized with Covid. She could have offered to meet with me in the adjacent cafeteria where social distancing was possible, but instead she stood her ground making me feel more and more unsafe for my health. I am in disbelief that a "HEALTH CLUB" is more interested in giving their employees their person freedoms than they are on customer service and following the CDC HEALTH Covid Guidelines. I am abhorred by how they treated me because I my chose to protect myself!

It is very rare to find a fitness coach who believes in sustainability, long term achievements, mental health wellness and physical fitness all together. I was lucky to cross paths with such a person - Emily Holloman.

Emily is very personable, professional and very genuine when it comes to her clients. She meets you where you are in your fitness journey and takes it from there. She motivates you to give your best and makes workouts enjoyable. Emily is very knowledgeable. She provides fact-based answers and reasons to questions which shows her dedication and passion for her work.

I was able to achieve my fitness goals with her and I am very sure you will too! If you are looking forward to make sustainable changes in your lifestyle and live a healthy, happy life - Emily is your best answer!

As a diligent, genuine fitness coach, she earns my highest recommendation. I wish her all the very best for all her endeavors! :)

After COVID-19 my experience changed drastically.
Air condition for spinning classes is above perfection, and the racquetball court is great. In addition, the Lifetime vegan protein is my favorite.
One little note, I would appreciate if the functional area could be a little cooler, or with better air circulation, to increase endurance performance. I overheat 100% of the time and have to stop during workouts.

Thanks!

Lifetime is a nice gym overall, but it most definitely gets overly crowded. I shouldn't have to "get in where I fit in" just to workout. It makes the gym experience less enjoyable. Lifetime is great for the classes, pools, sauna, etc, but the weight area by far is the worst if you want anything to be available.

My family has really enjoyed our membership at Lifetime since joining. The Gym is fantastic and has everything, I also really enjoy working with my trainer. I switched over to having my hair cut at the spa which was a huge win and super convenient. The child watch facility is great, and the people are extremely nice. My family also really enjoys the pools as well as the nice seating areas available around that pulls to lounge around in. Overall highly suggest this location for sure. Happy members.
