Edited: I initially gave Master Overbey’s 5 Stars but sadly, I have to change that to a 1 due to discriminatory reasons. Their summer camp will not accept my child with medical disabilities even through they are registered with the KDHE, my child is protected under the ADA. They denied my child after accepting him and taking deposits. With a month before summer starting my son now has no summer enrichment. This scares me for other families and makes me question their capabilities to care for any child. They even cared for my son during a parents night out event in the past - they said the extra 20 minutes they took to care for him was just too much of a burden.

I have known this business from back to approximately 20 years ago, when my son started as a student in the Little Ninjas class when Master Overbey’s was in the shopping center next to where Target is located, in a local right on SW 21st St.
Since then, and through the changes of address along these 20 years, we attended classes, belt promotions, birthday parties and other events held in this Martial Arts School, as well as many of their students followed them from here to there.
I recently came back to their new location after few years of absence, to reinitiate classes to continue growing in this discipline, and for a new member of the family, new generation, to start with the Little Ninjas… A story that repeats 😀

I can tell by sure that this is a very good place where one can be confident of receiving the best discipline, not only in taekuondo, but speaking about discipline as method to guide students to their goals, because I always have heard positive commands and instructions from Master Overbey and the instructors (that by the way, were trained by him).
Without exaggerating, never I heard a “No, don’t do this”. nor a “You are not doing this right”, or so. Instead, they use positive reinforcement, affirmations, always like “You are doing X this way, now try this (instead)”, but that is minimum, because most of the time you always hear a “Very good!”, or “Excellent!, Keep doing it that way”, etc.

Anyone, new teachers, parents, caregivers, if you want to see what positive discipline, positive reinforcement and redirection is about in action, just come to see any of their classes. They are very motivational.
The environment here is consequentially very calm and happy.

It's great 👍. Really nice i go there and it's a really cool place. You learn tae Kwon Do,which is Korean.But you also learn how to protect yourself. Really awesome place.

We have been going for some time now, not only do the instructors work with each kid, but after only 1 class they remember the kids names. We have had up to 16 kids in a class and they always make sure to say atleast every kids name first. The repetitiveness really helps build the confidence that is needed. I can tell we will be here for a long time.

I took kickboxing at Master Overbey's over 15 years ago and LOVED it. I had no idea that my children would eventually be involved in Master Overbey's programs. They have been involved in the summer camp for several years, but recently started taekwando. They have been very excited about it! My son has been attending Master Overbey's since kindergarten. He had issues controlling his big emotions and had started lashing out at his peers for no reason. Overbey's not only gave him an outlet for his emotions but taught him self control and focus. He is now in 4th grade working on his black belt.

Their summer camp is amazing! They go on field trips daily. Picnics, sports zone, movies, trampoline parks, skating, and swimming.. My son was able to stay active all summer while I was working.

During COVID stay at home order, Overbey's started virtual lessons. They currently are offering lessons both virtually and in person. This also lets parents watch from their homes or cars which limits the number of people in the building.

We are so blessed to have been part of the Master Overbey family.

We have had our son enrolled in Master Overbey's classes for the last two years. It's been so helpful with building his confidence in his athletic abilities, focus, self-control, and, especially, his self esteem.

Master Overbey's has really been a life changing experience for us! Our son has been able to find pride in himself as he works through each belt category and we love everything Master Overbey teaches the kids about Martial Arts but also about real-life scenarios such as bullying. Our son also attends their Summer Camp and this is one of the only places I feel safe with him being while I am working. They also do lots of fun activities each day to keep the kids busy and engaged. We plan on being with this program for many years to come!

I can't express how much my girls LOVE Master Overbey's! They have enjoyed both summer camp and school days out over the past 3 years. The positive environment and different activities throughout the day keep them busy. Both of our girls have made lasting friendships that have extended outside the camp walls. The respect that is taught and expected is a great foundation for so many aspects for lifelong achievement. We never worry when they are at camp, we know they are being taken care of, kept active, having fun, and making new friends. We look forward to distance learning with Master Overbey's this year as well. The Overbey family does so much for our community, absolutely an asset to this community!
