This is a great branch of the Y. Everyone at all of the branches tends to be friendly and helpful, and the staff at this branch was no exception. In addition, the facilities are new, and there is a splash pad as well as an outdoor pool on site.

My husband and I love the Americana Y! We have been members since 2017. I enjoy spin, barre, group power, and yoga classes as well as pickleball! My husband likes the free weights and cardio areas. We are thankful for the camaraderie of working out with friends we’ve made through the Y. The pool and splash pad are also great when the weather allows! The staff at the front desk- Berdice, Maurice, and Devon are so welcoming and helpful. Where else can you get so much for your membership dollars???
The class instructors are incredible- Cinda, Brianna, Katie lead the classes that I regularly attend. They are so very helpful in making the workouts safe and effective!

The YMCA at Americana is just marvelous & a great example of a team with a purpose because of their genuine service attitude. The staff is well trained. As a former supervisory life guard, safety inspector, & customer service evaluator/inspector, I find that YMCA at Americana deserves a excellent rating of 5. Ready to address issues head on, address members questions on the spot & will to say I don't know but I'll check on that, & professionally willing to apologize for the unavoidable. The only reason I joined the Y was to use their pool so that I could teach my daughter to swim. They then removed most of the pool hours from the general membership without any notice to current members. Their pool hours, as clearly stated on their website (and as stated to me when I joined) were 6:00 am to 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on weekdays. I showed up today at 10:00 am to use the pool and they asked if I had a reservation. This was never told to me as a requirement. As I spoke to them, I later found out that I couldn't even have made a reservation for that time because they have accepted a government grant to use the pool for schools from 9 am until 2 pm, basically using up most of the (convenient) morning hours. So, now there are only three hours a day during the week that you can use the pool, unless you get there so early in the morning that it is still cold outside for swimming. I spoke to someone who was supposedly the manager of the pool and she said that they do this every year. So apparently, this is a trick they play on people every year, but they don't bother to warn people by email or even on their website. I also heard from the front desk that, by the terms of their grant, because school children are using the pool, the Y must lock the locker rooms so that no one else can use them while the children are there. So even if you don't use the pool, you might be prevented from using the locker rooms even though you are a paying member. I paid for two months of membership while I was waiting for the weather to get warm enough to swim, then when it finally was, they took away all of hours that would have been convenient for us to use the pool. I have posted a screenshot as proof of the hours posted on their website.

Edit: No one ever before informed me about this supposed scheduling software and the front desk person said that I was not the only person surprised and upset about the changed pool hours, so it is clear that your attempts to notify members are not calculated to inform. Also, while it is great that you want to teach Swim Safety, you have three hours every weekday, 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. to do it without taking away hours that your members have paid for and expect to be able to use. Your director left a voicemail and then never called me back when I returned her call.

The attitude displayed by management is absolutely appalling, and it's incredulous that she expects anyone to tolerate, let alone care about, her abhorrent behavior. Additionally, the lack of supervision and guidance for the camp kids is alarming. They are left to roam aimlessly without any direction, which not only poses a safety risk but also detracts from their overall experience.

Absolutely miserable experience that will never be repeated or suggested to anyone. Signed up for a 4 session swim class for our 3 year old daughter, in which one class was both late and short, and the last class wasn't even provided. After months of calling them repeatedly about it no resolution has been reached. We've already been warning other families in the area about how entirely unprofessional this entire experience has been. If you want to waste your time and money send your kids here.... Otherwise if you want your kids to learn anything about swimming I suggest literally anywhere else.

The Americana Y is a little slice of health and wellness heaven for the whole family. The staff is warm and welcoming and the facility is very clean and offers a wide array of solo fitness experiences or group classes. Our kids beg to go to the Kid Zone and we are able to play tennis as a family and easily learn pickleball and play with other families. It's a little gem and fun haven for our town!

Overall this Y is an amazing place. It's clean, they are friendly, there are many programs, there is a splash pad for the kids, there is a kiddie daycare if you need someone to watch the kids while you work out, and there is a counselor to help you get started on an exercise program. The only reason I gave 4 stats instead of 5 is because of the hours. Although the website has certain times for everything you can get there and it is different. The pool and splash pad have hours ut it could be closed when you get there and if you're like us to show up with the kids to the splash pad we are told that you need to reserve it. I'm guessing it's a staffing problem?

Nice quality gym and there is a variety of classes. We utilize the kid zone alot but having that on Friday evenings would be super helpful. Last week, we were able to utilize kid zone on a Friday evening and the employee didn't tell us that they were only doing before/after school care and didn't prevent us from dropping our 2 children off at the kid zone. she even took our oldest temperature. So this evening, the employee (Bernice, I think?) at the front desk argued with us about rather or not , we did use kid zone last Friday and that it was before/after care. There is a way to inform members politely without arguing in front of other members. We just started our membership about 2 weeks ago and would like to continue our membership but this was not good customer service! Not having kid zone on Friday evenings is inconvenient for those who work ☹️

This facility is clean and adequate, but far from a first class facility. The design is lacking and the attention to detail and needs of the members is not what is should be.

One example, in the winter it is so cold in the facility that many have taken to wearing jackets while doing cardio. The lack of heat is compounded by the fan running and basically raining down cold air in the gym. In the summer this would be welcome, but in the winter, not so much.

There are two water fountains in the workout area. One has been broken for months. The working one is the handicapped one. It has been reported multiple times by several people. The only response is they are aware of it. Yet, nothing gets done.

The men's locker room is poorly designed and has a lot of wasted space based on the club's usage. There are probably five times more lockers than needed. The same goes for the number or shower stalls. If you take a shower, (forget about doing this in the winter because the locker room is way too cold) there is no place to put your towel while you shower because there are no hooks. This too has been reported (apparently the women's showers do have hooks), but nothing has been done. The paper towels for drying your hands are a good ten feet away from the sinks and across a walkway. Water is dripped on the floor making it a slipping hazard in the walkway area. There are no scales in the locker rooms. There is one in the weight area, but weighing yourself with clothes on defeats the point. Other YMCAs have scales in the locker rooms.

There are many little things like this that add up.

Great opportunity and facility for all ages and fitness levels to pursue healthy options for their temples. *A large parking lot helps with easy in and out. *There are ample tennis courts, which are well lit, that allow for daytime and nighttime games. *The pool also has a splash park for the children and adventurous young adults. *It's new so it is clean beyond measure (to include the locker room). *There is a larger community room available for use. *Modified recumbent cycles are available for those with spinal cord injuries, upper and lower back injuries/ pain who are in recovery / maintenance mode.
Americana is a new and small community at this time. There are ample machines at this time for both Americana residents and those who may venture in from local communities such as Zachary, Port Hudson, Slaughter, or even Baton Rouge visitors. My daughter introduced me to this area recently. The YMCA is major fitness resource within a Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND). I just performed research to learn about a TND. Do your research while you workout with care.

I love our local Y! The girls in childcare always greet my children by name. Brenda at the front desk always has a big smile and offers a warm welcome. The facilities are nice and you hardly ever have to wait for equipment or machines. I highly recommend Byron's kickboxing class! My only complaint is the pool. It is frequently cordoned off to a tiny area that has to accommodate a large amount of kids. When they bring in the campers it becomes a total nightmare. Every family I know avoids this area at those times.

Overall
1 temperature in the building is way too cool even if there were people working out and according to employees, it can't be adjusted.
2 there is a cardio room which is very minimal at best, but satisfactory only due to few members.
3 The weight lifting room again houses the least amount of machines I've ever seen in a YMCA. No kettle bells,only 1 rack of circular dumbells.
4 No spinning bikes
5 That's it. A nice looking building with a lack of functional equipment
6 small tv's in a day of large wide screen tv's, they went cheap.
7 tv in men's locker room has only half a screen working for at least 3 monthes
8 no physical therapist or nutritionist for members in need of help
9 A large community room which unless rented, is a complete waste
10 Why not buy two portable basketball units and instead of paying rent at a outside venue, have your kids program right at the Y. Save some much money and maybe increase membership.
11 Only Y I've ever been without a sauna. Buy a portable unit or two formen and women. It would come in handy on some of these cool winter days
12 How about some soap dishes in the showers for people who bring in their own soap. How about try to increase the water pressure in the showers.

It seems to me that management doesn't care about improving the facility.
If they cared, they might increase membership. It's a very sorry situation

We won't even talk about the children's pre school program where all they do is watch tv. they could be learning yoga and how to take care of their body,, something that schools around our great country don't even

think of doing
