Coach Matt Nussbaum from Boxing in the Park is an amazing Boxing Coach. I was a complete newcomer and I'm a somewhat awkward person, and Matt Nussbaum was extremely patient with me and was very helpful. You will work hard, but you will feel good and if you start to feel bad he will listen to you and adjust the intensity. His teaching style worked perfectly for someone like me who can sometimes take a little bit to get the hang of things. He also offers help with general fitness and is very good and knowledgeable about these things. I still use many of the apps and tips he informed me about. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Coach Matt Nussbaum and will be returning soon for future training.

I never thought that I would like a one-on-one training, but this is the best workout I've ever had. Matt is extremely thoughtful, pushes me hard, and all the while encourages me to concentrate on my mental well-being as well as my physical well-being. My energy level, weight, and boxing skills have all improved thanks to him. I look forward to every session!

Can't speak more highly of Matt as a trainer or as a person. Whatever your goals are, he works collaboratively to help you achieve them. He's incredibly knowledgeable and has worked with some of the best, and his passion for the sport is infectious. Beyond boxing however, Matt has had such a positive influence on my life. The improvements I've made physically and mentally since starting my boxing journey, as well as the other positive changes I've made in my life...I owe it all to this man right here. I wouldn't be the same without him, and he's made a lasting impact on my life and given me some insights on myself that I won't ever forget. I can't thank this man enough for being in my corner, both literally and figuratively. Very grateful to have found the best in NOLA!

Matt, the trainer who runs "Boxing in the Park," is the ideal boxing coach. Everyone from beginners to pros could learn from Matt. He tailors the boxing lessons/workouts (they're really both!) to each person, adapting to the unique needs and goals of his clients. As someone who gets bored easily with certain workouts, I can confidently say I enjoy every session with Matt. He pushes you in all the right ways without overdoing it. Do yourself a favor and sign up now!

A great boxing workout for body and mind. Matt has a keen sense of exactly how far to push you with time-tested exercises and pad work, not the latest gym fad, to get you in punching shape. Good guy, too. My only regret is not starting sooner.

Matt is without a doubt of the most knowledgeable and solid trainers you could ever be fortunate enough to work with and is just as much of a great human being & friend, as he's gone out of his way to go above and beyond in lending a helping hand outside of the gym, for which I am absolutely grateful for🥊you will not regret working with Matt!

Matt creates and fosters a safe environment to learn and gain strength both physically and mentally. I’ve been interested in boxing and learning boxing for years but always struggled to find a gym that wasn’t HIIT workouts on a heavy bag. That changed when I found Boxing in the Park two years ago. It’s hard to express how amazing my time there has been, because it’s literally been life changing for me! I walk differently, I actually enjoy running (didn’t think that was possible), and my mental health is better than it’s been in years. Coach Matt focuses on the techniques and strategies of the sweet science, as well as the physical fitness aspect. As a born coach he led and mentored me to develop my own skills and abilities, keeping the classes challenging but achievable. Switching from one class a week to two really accelerated my progress, as there are SO MANY skills to learn once a week just wasn’t enough for me. Matt has been incredibly encouraging and patient, finding workouts when I showed up with a tweaked back, busted knee, etc. He’s also a leader of a strong community in the boxing world of New Orleans, hosting and coordinating events to bring together like minded people together and developing a social support system of boxing and fitness enthusiasts. I got to meet so many great people, pros and amateurs alike, through these events. I still can’t believe I stumbled across Boxing in the Park on an evening walk and it’s one of the top three things I’ve done in the past twenty years. Do yourself a favor and sign up for a class, you won’t regret it!

Matt tailors stretching, strength training, and boxing technique instruction to each individual. This is apparently the way he did when he trained professional boxers when the right preparation made the difference between winning and losing and getting injured or not. He's a great personal coach, really knows boxing, has a great sense of humor and is always in a good mood.

My 14 year-old son wanted to learn how to box. A quick internet search lead me to Boxing in the Park and I am so thankful for that. I thought that learning how to box would consist of putting some gloves on and start practicing. Matt showed us it is way more than that. Every lesson is filled with exercises in balance, reflex, endurance, dexterity and yes...boxing. I have been a boxing fan for a very long time but seeing Matt teach my son has shown me so much about the sport. I now appreciate the beauty and complexity, the thought process, the technique and planning that it takes to box. Now, when I see a boxing match, I can observe subtle things that I couldn't tell before. I look forward to every lesson as much as my son. Matt seems to me like an Obi Wan figure who will gradually bestow upon his lucky students his vast knowledge of the sport.

Without any prior boxing experience i dove into training 3x a week with Matt. Through Matt’s instruction and leadership i felt like i was learning right out of the gate and after the first class had already felt i was walking away with knowledge gained. I look forward to training every week and when the session is over i always find myself not wanting to leave. Matt will push you to the limit but not over the edge in the best ways. Being able to train outside on a beautiful morning is always a major bonus as well. My only regret is i hadn’t started training sooner!

I’m so happy I started boxing in the park with Matt! I see Matt twice a week and love how technical the sport is. Way better than going to any bag class because Matt really helps you learn proper technique. Overall Matt is awesome - you can tell he really cares about his students and has helped not just with boxing but is always there for emotional support and whatever else his students needs. He definitely pushes you to succeed and I always work up a good sweat after each session. Such a fun way to fit in some cardio and it’s a great way to get into a better head space. I highly recommend taking Matt’s class, either in the park or at his studio in the bywater.

This has been such a great experience for my son. Matt is not just a knowledgeable, patient and thoughtful trainer. He’s a teacher, mentor, and coach who tailors each lesson personally. His lessons are engaging while providing discipline, focus, and most importantly fun for my son. Matt finds the perfect balance! I highly recommend.

Matt is an amazing trainer - every workout is so well tailored to your own style and needs. He’s really great at picking up on your strengths and how you best process new training techniques and changes up the workouts on the spot to help you get the most out of it! He’s also super accommodating and flexible to your schedule! I usually get really into some sort of physical activity for a couple weeks and then kind of lose motivation but I’ve been training with Matt for about five months now and I’m definitely going to continue!

Training with Matt has been a positive and empowering experience for me. Matt is passionate and knowledgable about boxing and is committed to development compatible with an individual's own pace / learning style. I appreciate Matt's focus on solid fundamental techniques, strength training, and constructive critique. Scheduling is a breeze with options to meet in Audubon park or a studio space on St. Claude. Matt is an intuitive and engaging person to work with, and always inspires me to improve.

Working out with Matt was an awesome experience for me. Matt really does it all. Matt is a great boxing coach who will teach you real technique while giving you an awesome workout. He is also very flexible, and will build a workout that will help you reach your specific goals whether that be strength building, losing weight, or becoming the best fighter you can be. I would also encourage you to take full advantage of Matt's nutritional knowledge. He taught me so much about how to eat for the body you want, and he helped me form habits that have kept me in great shape. Audubon Park is a beautiful place to train, and you couldn't ask for a more supportive and knowledgable trainer to work with.

Boxing in the park has truly been an amazing experience for me. Not only are you able to enjoy the beauty of the park, but you receive an amazing workout. One the I enjoy about the class is the personal attention and working out with a coach that is able to hone in on your skills and polish them, and help improve your weaknesses. I do not think there is a better personal coach then Matt, he is very friendly, and knowledgable. I also appreciate the fact that you are learning real boxing techniques, and strategy rather than just punching a back for the whole workout. Matt is able to gradually work with you and bring your body to its limits, ensuring you get a great workout. When I first started working with Matt I was not able to run a mile without stopping, after a short period I was running 3-5 miles at my own leisure. I have even brought friends from out of town to sessions who all have said nothing but wonderful things. I would highly recommend this class to anyone who is interested.

Boxing in the Park with Matt is an excellent way to get or stay in shape! Not only do you get to revel in the beauty of Audubon Park, but you also get the privilege of working out with Matt himself. Matt is accommodating, yet challenging at the same time - the perfect combo. He’ll work with you to help achieve your goals, whether they are more fitness related or more technical. I’ve been boxing for a little under a year before and love training with Matt because his attention to detail ensures that my technique is improving and that I am not reinforcing bad habits that had gone unchecked in large class settings. I highly recommend Boxing in the Park!
