It's 8/10 personal because it's never gonna be for everyone. I am a nerd id love to know what exactly afrogrooves is about, what about the culture would be sacred or history, and expanding understanding of how moves fit my body. but the personal expression message of dancing grounds in this class may be more important than that

It feels like a "workout class" and we go through a choreo, so it's like a casual-fun-experimental-discover your special sauce vibe.

I would definitely come back myself and the way DG is celebrating of legacy and grassroots seems quite legit. Please be around next time I visit ♥️

Everyone there is so encouraging and kind as well as good humored. The selection and times of the classes are perfect. The teachers are all very clear about their instructions and come to class prepared. They also manage to give classes for all levels at once, which is amazing. Love love love it!

The Work It Out class was so fun and freeing. It was just what I didn't know I my body and spirit needed! Laura is a wonderful teacher, and if I lived in New Orleans, I'd be there every week. The Dancing Grounds studio was also very clean, which I appreciated, and just felt overall welcoming and supportive. Such a beautiful community space.

The staff and other students are always welcoming and polite. No matter what kind of day I have, Im always guaranteed a good sweat and laughs. Consistently a safe space for me over the last seven years and very beginner friendly while still challenging the more advanced dancers. I wish they had one in every city!

It was my first time coming to a dance class let alone coming alone from Ponchatoula, so I was a bit out of my comfort zone but once the class started I enjoyed my time from beginning to end. Tobias was also very welcoming and helped keep the energy and overall mood of the class positive. Despite it being a little bit of a drive I would for sure come again and bring some friends along if they're down for the ride

I 1000% would recommend. I am a super beginner at dancing, and I felt so comfortable by the end of class. What a positive, inclusive environment. I found this location using my MINDBODY app. There were several other choices available to me.

I’m a transient visitor here for a month so I needed to keep my yoga flow.

I read the reviews I looked at the different offerings. I was so tempted by the salsa class :-)
But what I really needed was yoga on a regular being away from home for so long.

The establishment itself is very clean very peaceful.
The classroom itself was big in size.
The instructor was wonderful, very precise, helpful and available for modifications.

I will be signing up for a temporary monthly pass.

Give them a try. You won’t be disappointed.

My first visit was on a free Friday. The woman at the front desk made me feel welcome. She filled me in on what goes on, made me sign a waiver that makes perfect sense to sign, and let me go. The instructor was amazing. She practiced patience with the many different skill levels of students with her gentle yoga. If I had more time, I would have definitely stayed for that Pilates class. At some point, I'll be considering a membership there.

Glad I found Dancing Grounds :-) They offer good quality dance classes, accessible to all & welcoming to all during this time of still limited access to this sort of thing. And, oh yeah, alongside the rolling Mississippi River with the passing ships & the water birds calling, along with the plus of great customer service if you have any questions or problems with the app or billing. Going to a dance class at Dancing Grounds is pure, utter joy. The instructors are fun and energetic, the music is bumpin, and the space is friendly. I pretty much can't dance, but it doesn't matter, because I have so much fun when I'm there! Dancing Grounds is also deeply involved in the community and up to big things. This is probably the best studio I’ve ever been to...ever! All the teachers are phenomenal, the staff is warm and welcoming, and the general atmosphere of the studio is friendly, fun, non-competitive, challenging, accessible and positive. I’ve been a member for a few years now, and even though I don’t make class as much as I’d like, I love supporting their mission to bring dance into to lives of people of all ages and backgrounds. They walk (and dance) their talk. They take good care of their staff, students, and community members and are an incredible asset to the New Orleans dance community.

I have taken a number of dance classes here. I did like it. But there seems to be a problem with discrimination. Some of the classes are defined as only for certain races. Since this place gets public funding, I do not think they have the right to discriminate.

I could understand if the class was meant for a higher level of experience or a beginner class. But, Skin color should not be a factor in who is welcome in a class.
