Beacon has been instrumental in game changing my fitness. I have become stronger and fitter than I ever thought possible. The coaches are amazing and super supportive. The community is also not one to miss. Everyone is super welcoming.

Iβve been going to Beacon for almost 3 months now; and itβs the first gym Iβve been apart of that I have felt completely welcome. The staff and the members are so supportive, patient, and kind. One of the major reasons I had stopped going to the gym was due to lack of support and fear of going alone, and Beacon has shown me that fitness in groups is the way to go!!

Great experience with the small group classes after returning to working out 2 years post-partum. Just what I needed to develop a new habit/routine. Coaches and members are kind, helpful and welcoming. As much accountability/intensity as you want. Parking is pretty manageable for downtown location. Feel like I get good value for the cost. Highly recommend!

I can't say enough good things about Beacon! joining this gym was by far the best decision I made this year. The coaches have been so encouraging and helpful. I've seen so much progress and love moving my body again. There are ample opportunities to meet people, learn, push yourself, compete, and have fun!

My experience at CrossFit Beacon is twofold: as a coach, and as an athlete. As an athlete, I have seen my skills and performance dramatically improve in the year I have been under the tutelage of Beacon's super skilled and highly qualified coaching staff. As a coach, I have had the privilege to work with an inspiring and highly motivated group of individuals -- athletes who attend not only to get their sweat on, but also to enjoy the incredible community fostered at CFB. If you're looking for a safe and supportive learning environment, or for committed athletes ready to throw down, look no further!

The Mama Movement and the core reconnect class were everything I was looking for postpartum. It completely changed my world. The community and support from the coaches and other members is incredible. Now I've fallen in love with all parts of beacon through a transition to their CrossFit classes. Thank you for all you continue to do for me!

Beacon Community Fitness has been my sanctuary since September 2023, helping me bounce back from a low back/hip injury and shoulder surgery like a true warrior! The coaches here are nothing short of miracle workers. Theyβve been my cheerleaders, guiding me through every step of my recovery with personalized plans and endless encouragement. I feel stronger and more confident every day thanks to their support. If you're looking for a fitness family that knows how to keep things fun, effective, and personal, Beacon is the place to be. Highly recommend for anyone ready to crush their fitness goals with a smile and a high-five!

After working next to Beacon Community Fitness for a few years, I finally stopped in one day to see what it was all about. After a brief conversation, and feeling really comfortable in the space, I signed up for a small group for folks getting back into fitness after an injury.
I have a back injury from a lifting accident years ago and I never thought I would want to work with weights again. The small group is a perfect fit for me: tons of personal attention on form to prevent future injuries, along with a built in schedule. I'm only a few weeks in and I'm hooked. I just wish I hadn't waited so long to walk in and see what it was all about!

I have been going to Beacon Community Fitness at H2O Fitness Collaborative for almost three years now. The owners/founders have built a strong community that supports fitness and health. All the coaches are so wonderful and I am so grateful to have met such amazing people. <3 I have been working with Coach Tyson and he is so welcoming, encouraging, knowledgable, patient, kind and funny! His work outs are killer and I have learned so much. Thank you! Highly Recommend!! If I could put 100 stars I would! :)

A great workout option for postpartum people! They have a core reconnect program that was a good way to get back to working out. For some classes the instructors will hold or help entertain babies while you workout.
I will mention that their classes are pricey. I was on a $60/week "membership" for two classes per week (Mondays and Wednesdays - plus the opportunity for a Saturday class, but I am not able to attend due to childcare issues). They charged for a full week when they were closed on Memorial Day and my regular class was not offered.

I came to Beacon Community Fitness because of the Momma Movement and I am so glad I did. I wanted a place to exercise safely with people who understood that the body changes after being pregnant and giving birth. After having two kids I was ready to get back into finding my core strength. Not only was my coach amazing- attentive, knowledgable, and always willing to adapt exercises to make sure I was staying safe, I was exercising with a great group of women! I highly recommend the Momma Movement!

I just completed a 6-session semi-private coaching session. The instruction provided by Coach Candace was top-notch. It provided me with a thorough introduction to all that is Cross Fit. They were helpful, supportive, and they met me at my current fitness level. Everyone at the gym was warm and welcoming from the staff to the regulars. I was intimated to start somewhere new but I am so glad I did! I'm looking forward to the next 6 weeks and the 6 weeks after that! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the team at Beacon.

I've been to my fair share of group fitness/CrossFit gyms but this is one of the best, if not the best, gyms I've been a part of.
Some of the highlights:
Coaches: are so personable, they are always ready to help you improve your movements or find someway for you to take part in the workouts. They've helped me improve just about everything but especially my squat.
Equipment: They have everything you need to complete any CrossFit or functional movement workout. They just got some new Echo Bikes and a Ski Erg. There's a nice running/walking trail located in the back.
Classes: are never too crowded but there's always someone else in the class. The classes themselves are spaced nicely throughout the day so you're never rushed, but there's plenty of space for you to do any accessory work/stretching you need to.
Members/Community: are some of the nicest and open people, too. There are always events outside of class to get involved if you're looking for it. It's located near some breweries so there's the opportunities for some extra curricular/liquid recovery activities.
I can't thank the whole community enough so if you're looking for a new gym, you've found it!

I'm new to gym workouts in general, and the coaches at Beacon Community Fitness have been so patient and accommodating as I get up to speed. I have been wanting to try CrossFit for some time now and I am SO glad that I went with Beacon. The coaches are supportive, encouraging, and meet you at your own personal fitness level - with zero judgment, and lot of encouragement. Their only request is that you SHOW UP, move your body, & listen to your body. They have a system for sharing any movement challenges with the other coaches, so each coach knows your limitations/challenges before each workout, thus can suggest alternatives as needed. As I'm in my 50s, I truly wasn't sure this would be for me, but due to the support and comfort level I have found, I am eager to continue to move, grow, and strengthen! It's a BLAST, really!

Absolutely one of the best gyms/fitness centers I've ever visited. I'm currently enrolled in small group training and we are working on deadlifts, back squats, pull ups and ring rows, as well as classic CrossFit cardio-based moves (rowing, assault bike, running, etc.). My coach/trainer, Seth, is amazingly helpful and patient in teaching me how to do handstands against the wall (and eventually without the wall). He has a very supportive, encouraging, easy-going personality that really motivates me to do my best. He routinely asks me what moves I want to work on, and we have already covered rope climbs and handstand preps, to name a few. I really enjoy the small group vibe as it gives us a chance to get to know each other better, and we have more time with our coach than we would in a regular CrossFit class. Seth has helped me get to the point where I feel like I can just jump into a regular CrossFit class whenever I want. I've already hit a major PR in bench presses, and I'm up to my best in deadlifts even though I'm obviously the oldest I've ever been at the time of this review! It's not anything I reasonably expected to ever achieve in my 50s.
It isn't cheap, but I still think it is worth it. You really are getting a lot of time with the coach, even in the small group setting. Highly recommended.

Went here for a few years, after a family member from out of town spoke of the merits of CrossFit. The instructors are very motivational, I gained a better outlook on personal fitness and became better at my rather physically demanding job. My only gripe is that there was no AC and very minimal air circulation in the main gym area, which was rather uncomfortable in the summer. But if you donβt mind that, Iβd recommend going. I only left due to hitting a low point financially.

I was admittedly skeptical about joining a crossfit gym, having never tried it before, but I was looking for an environment where I could work out with a coach and a team. The community at Beacon is exactly what I was looking for. I love the focus on safety and technique and then the opportunity for fun competition. The coaches are committed to your goals and specific interests and provide a lot of individual feedback during classes. I highly recommend visiting to meet with the coaches and give it a try.

I've been going to beacon for 5 years now, since June 2018. I regard this gym as my "happy place," where I get to discover what my body is capable of achieving. The coaches are outstanding and the community is very supportive. I happily attend class five days a week and am always working on new skill in fitness form, whether it be aerobics, weight lifting, or gymnastics. Every day is a new challenge that is equally fun. All the workouts are scalable to fit your fitness. At 50 years old, I am in better shape than 25 years ago.

Having joined Beacon just a few weeks ago I feel well-suited to leave a review for what a welcoming, empowering community this is to join. The coaches here go above and beyond to onboard new members, ensuring that no matter where you're starting from, you're prepared for classes and have the support you need to grow as an athlete. And the other members? They're somehow just as great - cheering each other on all the while grinding through the workout themselves. Suffice to say, I can't recommend this gym enough!

Was in Portland for a conference and wanted to drop in to a CF gym. I checked a few of them out and landed on Beacon. After scoping out their Instagram, I figured the gym looked nice and members looked like they were having a good time. When I walked in I saw they had two separate gym areas, one with turf and another room they were wodding in. I also noticed they had a few showers and an area to hangout and change (this is not something I see always). Gym was big, clean and members and coaches were very nice and helpful. Its always a little intimidating when dropping into a place that you're unfamiliar with but the members greeted me with open arms and the coach paid attention to me as if I was one of her long term members. Was very impressed with this group of people. I will definitely come back when I am in town.

I've belonged to several different CrossFit "boxes" (CrossFit speak for an affiliate gym), and while they've each had their strengths, Beacon rises to the top. Beacon is well-organized and clean, with plenty high-quality equipment, and the coaches are great. I'm a more casual cross-fitter, 2-3 times per week, and there's just as much room for me at Beacon as the more serious athletes. I appreciate their more holistic focus with things like "croga" (CrossFit Yoga) and the Core FUNction classes, which focus on movement, balance and technique more than heavy weight - but without sacrificing the challenge that makes CrossFit work. Highly recommended.

I started just after they opened three years ago. At 42 yrs old my chiropractor told me that my body couldn't take the constant beating of running 5-8 miles everyday so I looked for something new.
I was drawn to crossfit because of the focus on maximizing your strength and cardio with limited time. Done mostly thru constantly varied, shorter intense interval training with functional movements.
Beacon was a great place to start my crossfit experience. The staff is always supportive and encouraging but never "over the top intense." The facility is clean with plenty of space & showers and conveniently located right off the interstate. They have plenty of classes to jump into and open gym is always an option because they're open all day!
Besides Crossfit Beacon training me into some of the best shape of my life at 45, the one thing I didn't expect was the
camaraderie that would be created with others that I train & sweat with every day.
Thank you Crossfit Beacon!

When I first heard of CrossFit I was very intimidated. My parents started it a few months before I did and when my Dad mentioned trying it out I was very skeptical. Finally I decided to give it a try. Being in the Portland area I had a few options when it came to choosing a "box". I dropped in to a couple places before Beacon but once I visited Beacon my mind was made up. I walked through that door and it was nothing but friendly, knowledgable coaches answering any question I had. I am reaching my 2 year mark with Beacon and I have zero complaints. The facility is clean, the class time options are convenient, the coaches are amazing, the community that Beacon has created is beyond words. You really feel like part of a family while you are there and you leave with a smile on your face. Five stars for sure!

Two years ago Annie and the Crossfit Beacon community welcomed me into the world of Crossfit. After three months I moved to Ohio for graduate school and was so thankful for the solid foundation, confidence and knowledge I gained during my time at Beacon. I quickly joined a box in Ohio and Crossfit has been an important part of my life ever since. Even during my time in Ohio Annie kept in touch with me, including me in a nutrition challenge and still making me feel like part of the community. This summer I am lucky enough to spend the summer back at Beacon and was welcomed back as if I'd never left. The coaches are encouraging, motivating and knowledgeable. The Beacon community is made up of a diverse group of people, all coming together to pursue their own unique goals. It's a great community to be a part of.

Crossfit Beacon is where I fell in love with this sport. I found exactly the challenge and the community that I didn't even know I was looking for, but so thankful to have it now. The coaches are knowledgeable and care about proper form and how to help you get there. If anyone is looking for a great place to drop-in or find a new work-out home - Beacon is it!

When I first heard about CrossFit a few years ago I was quick to jump to assumptions. It took me only 1 free boot camp class at Beacon to get me started. When I walked in to Beacon for the first time I immediately felt comfortable. At Beacon you are not only a member but you are part of a community of people that support, encourage, and motivate each other. The coaches are top notch and take the time to get to know their members. Safety is first at Beacon so each class the coaches go over the movements and offer scaleable options as needed.
The box is clean, the people are fantastic, and you will walk away with more confidence. No one is left behind. I am more fit now that I ever was and that is thanks to Beacon and its community. Whether you are an elite athlete or you are just getting started I guarantee you will walk away with a whole new better version of yourself.

Crossfit Beaconβ¦love this place! The coaches, staff and members are all awesome. Classes are run smooth by professional coaches and solid programming with more class times than any other gym I have seen. I recently moved to a new state and canβt bring myself to join the local gym because I am spoiled from Crossfit Beacon! Stop on by for the workout, stay for the fun!

CrossFit Beacon is Simply the "Best" place I have ever workout. I love Crossfit. After years of gym lifting, jumping rope and running on treadmills. I found Crossfit. CrossFit is challenging and a great way to achieve fitness. I have better endurance at 53 than I ever had at 20. I attribute all of this to Crossfit and Crossfit alone.
But having said all of that, I have to tell you straight up that it's the Beacon community that keeps me coming back. Outstanding coaches and members...None better.

My wife brought me to Beacon and I have made some great friends. I have made some great strides in mobility and strength and I find it to be very effective preparation for all of my other pursuits: from lacrosse to triathlons, and even climbing. I love the camaraderie. The best reason to be there is the people!

I started working out at CrossFit Beacon two years ago. I can't believe how much fitter I am and how much better I feel. I have worked out at Cross Fit boxes all over the country because I travel for work, and I can honestly say The Beacon is second to none. Enthusiastic, knowledgeable coaches, a friendly atmosphere, clean bathrooms and gym and just the right level of intensity make The Beacon a pleasure to work out at.

Beacon is the premium box in southern Maine. The owners and coaches combine the perfect blend of community, coaching, and programming. Coaches train all levels of athletes with patience and attention to detail. The coaches have a genuine interest in whatβs best for the growth of their athletes. The coaches motivate us and stop you when your form goes out the window. Safety first, PRβs second. The number of classes they offer daily/weekly make it easy with my ever-changing schedule. I enjoy the availability of βopen gymβ during the day when I canβt make it in for a full hour or when I want to work on my βgoatsβ. There is no intimidation factor when it comes to the healthy competition within the gym. We are all there to get fit, regardless of the weight you are putting up. I love the space that they have and the equipment is the best around. The facility is clean and well kept; BONUS** they provide 4 private showers. If you havenβt been in for a free class on Saturday at 930a, what are you waiting for?

I love this frigging place! I started on 4/2/13 and keep coming back for more and plan on to well into my later years. I love being fit! This place has the best community, the best members and the best coaches! I can't say enough about this place and if you are thinking of making a decision on which "BOX" you would like to attend in the greater Portland area for a free class or becoming a member, this is the one, hands down!

I have been a member of Crossfit Beacon for almost 3 years now. Prior to joining Beacon I had always considered myself an active person, even completing the NYC marathon a few years prior. However, I quickly realized that while I may have been active, I had not been pushing myself and was not in nearly as good of shape as I had assumed. The coaches at Beacon are all incredibly knowledgable- they take their time working with every single member, making sure that your form is impeccable and that you are pushing yourself. The workouts are constantly varied- the coaches clearly spend a lot of time on programming making sure that no one part of your body gets overworked (or underworked!). In addition to working on strength and conditioning, Beacon also focuses a lot on nutrition, regularly holding nutrition challenges. But the best part of the gym? The community! I have met some of the greatest people here and everyone is friendly and welcoming.

I'm an out of town Crossfitter and i showed up for an 8:15 class on a Saturday to drop in. The coaches were good to go and the members were inviting and some took the time to come strike up a conversation. The class was pretty full with limited room but they made it work smoothly with no problems. I like to try different Box's and there are a few located around Portland, but i'm also a creature of habit and i would come back the next time i'm in town.

I have been coming to CrossFit Beacon for a year and a half and I couldn't be happier that I chose to join. The atmosphere is both fun and challenging. Every workout is different, which is my favorite part about CrossFit. I love the constant variability of CrossFit workouts. CrossFit is so rewarding and can be incredibly frustrating at times, and I couldn't ask for a better community to be a part of than the one at Beacon. The coaches are knowledgeable and passionate about what they do and the members make all the workouts so much more fun! I have found that working out with others allows me to push myself so much harder. I have learned so much from working out at Beacon, from the technical Olympic lifts to gymnastics movements that never thought I'd be able to do (i.e. the pull up)! I really couldn't ask for a better CrossFit experience!

Absolutely worth stopping in! I've been doing CF for 7 years and can quickly sort out the various styles of boxes. CF Beacon is staffed by an experienced and energetic group. They program appropriately and have all of the requisite equipment to keep it varied. It's part of my Maine experience every time I visit -make it yours!

Did a Drop In at Beacon while visiting family in Maine. As soon as I walked in the door I was welcomed into the Box. The staff is friendly and dedicated. Kellie was excited to work with a new face during the WOD. Being new to CrossFit it's at time intimidating working out with a team and she made sure I was motivated and coached.
I had a blast doing the WOD on Friday and they invited me back to do the Hero WOD taking place the next day. Annie led an amazing WOD to a packed group. I was able to easily work in with the regulars and felt a great sense of camaraderie.
I would for sure comeback to CrossFit Beacon if I'm ever visiting from Chicago. Great staff, clean and organized Box, and some really fun regulars make CrossFit Beacon a real gem.

I dropped in to do the crossfit open wod 14.5 on Saturday and Dave and his staff couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating! The box is conveniently located for anyone coming out of town and wants to get their wod on! Coaches Kelly and Meg were also awesome! Go check it out!

When I first got interested in crossfit, I had three questions: 1. What is it? 2. Can I do it? 3. Where's the best place to go? After a year and a half, here are my answers.
1. The official answer to "what is crossfit" is that it is comprised of high-intensity, constantly-varied functional movements. The translation: crossfit is the best workout you will ever have. You will work every muscle in your body doing movements you've never heard of. And, the beauty of it is that all you have to do is show up. The coaches have programmed the workouts every day. You just have to show up and do it.
2. Yes, you can absolutely do it. I don't care who you are or how fit you are. Crossfit is about modifying and starting where you are now. If you aren't as fit as you'd like, there is absolutely no reason to worry or to wait. Just come in and start. You'll be amazed and you'll love it. If you are already super fit, there's also no need to hesitate. Crossfit will kick your butt and humble you, and you'll love it.
3. Finally, where? In my opinion, if you are in the Portland area, the only place to go is Crossfit Beacon. It's the best for all of the reasons you might expect: the facility is great - well equipped and clean. The schedule is diverse so there is bound to be a class that you can fit into your day. Most importantly, the coaches are amazing. They are so knowledgable and ready to help. And, they truly care about each one of their athletes.
Beacon is also the best for reasons I had no real concept of when I first joined. With crossfit, if you find the right gym you'll get so much more than a workout. You truly will find a new community of people you care about and are excited to see every day. When I started I was just hoping to get in shape and maybe stick with something for once. What I found was that crossfit isn't just a workout. Hitting Crossfit Beacon is nothing like showing up to a big box gym every day. Instead, this is a community that motivates you, inspires you, supports you, and cares about you - and it is all of that that brings you back every day. The amazing results are kind of just a bonus.

As a therapist, I find myself regularly talking with clients about the importance of physical activity on mental health. However, up until I started Crossfit, my physical activity consisted of going to the gym, getting on a treadmill, and playing games with myself by covering up the timer and hoping time passed more quickly than it did. With the encouragement of a friend, I tried out Crossfit and was hooked.
I continue to be really impressed with all of the coaches at Beacon. It's obvious they are all dedicated and knowledgable and their teaching skills are solid. The community is wonderfully supportive, professional, encouraging, and welcoming. Everyone comes to Beacon with their own skills and challenges and that's encouraged!
The differences I am noticing physically with my body are great; however, the differences I am noticing with feeling more confident with what my body is capable of doing are greater. Before I might have seen a Crossfit movement and thought, "I can't do that." Now I think, "I'm going to give that a try."
