I absolutely adore this gym! When I had to move away and cancel my membership, it genuinely broke my heart. The staff members are incredibly friendly and always willing to help, which made every visit enjoyable. The equipment is well-maintained and spotless, so I never had to deal with the frustration of waiting to use a machine. One of my favorite aspects is that it’s located above a hockey rink and basketball court, which means I sometimes got to enjoy a little live entertainment while I worked out. The locker rooms are tidy, though they could use a bit of extra care, but honestly, which gym doesn’t have that issue? I really miss this place and haven’t been able to find another gym that comes close to matching its vibe and quality.

I joined Exurb in February 2024, and let me tell you, it’s the best gym in the area! The cleanliness is impeccable, the equipment is well-maintained, and you have the option of 24-hour access. The staff is dedicated to their members’ well-being and comfort. Dwight, in particular, provided unwavering support and advocated for my health and fitness. Rick, always greeting members with a warm welcome, listens attentively to any request or suggestion. Kelsey, the owner, has made great changes in the gym over the past year. I have been with Exurb Fitness for over 15 years 😃…. this is like a family to me. I have trained with very good trainers, Kelsey & Dwight 🙂. They have always made sure of my safety and ensure that I am doing my workout correctly! Let me first say I was a longtime member of Exurb for almost 20yrs. Started when it was originally World Gym. What l liked most was the community vibe of the gym which was something I was looking for after Sport & Health closed down. I've seen the facility go through many changes mainly in personnel. Not so much in equipment but I stuck around because it was my second gym home. As a business owner in the county and another fitness business owner, I do want to see businesses succeed especially as a small business but this last change could have been done better. Way better than it was. Things I felt were missing.

1. Transparency
2. Communication
3. Survey of the members to get a feel for what they'd like to see in the gym. Basically, what can Exurb do to be better.
4. Timelines for implementation.
5. Tiered memberships. Even premier gyms have these.

The bathrooms were redone which was great but in all honesty a good tradeoff could have been some cosmetic upgrades while acquiring some new pieces of equipment. That could have been a win for the majority of the patrons. Also closing both bathrooms at the same time and relegating folks to Porta potty's when the downstairs was closed and in the dark was not a smart move especially with some of the crime that has happened in the area. I'm sure if the pulse of the members were taken into consideration, most would have provided valuable input that would have assisted in better decision making and implementation overall that would have benefited the gym and members. For many like myself, the cost of the membership isn't the issue. It's the things I've noted above and then some. Create a buy in with the customers by being transparent upfront. We got a shotgun blast to the face at 8pm on a Sunday night with no real explanation and a staff who had no answers either.

I do miss it and hope to return but cannot under the current conditions. I've been a member of the gym the same length of time I've lived in the county. I truly feel patrons deserve better and management needs to lead by example. People don't leave jobs because the jobs are bad. They leave because of bad management.

My wife joined Exhurb Gym in July and has already canceled. Tried to come back after leaving before but same old nonsense that made us leave the gym before. When she was a member previously her credit card was charged several times a month with no explanation, so she left. Decided to try again because the gym is small and personal and we actually enjoyed it but, here we go again! Joined in July and our account has been charged 5 times already totaling over $100. So I go up to the gym on a Monday and speak with Genika two weeks ago and she noted that the charges were incorrect and I should be refunded. She explained that she did not have the authority to refund the money but, she would speak with Kelsey and call my wife on Wednesday with an update. NO CALL! She also explained the ridiculous price increase of $50 a month in addition to an annual fee. This is something that wasn’t disclosed when Sa’Niyah signed my wife up. She was told $29.99 p/month and nothing about a service fee!
So here were are two weeks later and my wife called the gym again trying to get her money refunded and although the gentlemen was professional he couldn’t help us. He did say he would relay our message to Kelsey that we would like a refund but, that’s all he said he could do. Kelsey is it going to take you another two weeks to do the right thing or are you going to give us our money back?

Nice gym, but prices are becoming way too high for what is available (new Sauna hasn’t even been working). First, the gym started charging for guests a few months ago - a perk that was part of a membership under the previous name (Worlds Gym). Then, the monthly subscription went up perhaps due to some recent construction in the bathrooms. But, a few weeks ago the rate went up by 50%, to include a new annual fee. That’s crazy!
Sadly, after 5 years of attending this gym I am going to find another one.

I love this gym. I feel like it's a nice little hidden gem above the ice rink. My only issues with it is that there are limited squat racks and deadlift platforms, the weights are sometimes a struggle to slide on barbells, and the gym etiquette of the goers is lacking. By lacking I mean, equipment all over the place leaving the staff having to clean up after them and not re-racking their weights.

**Updating review**
First, I was a member through Active and Fit Direct and I just found out (August 20th) that they are phasing that out at the end of August, in 2 weeks. How did i find this out? By having my 24hour access revoked. No call, no email, not even a post on their social media. The girl at the front desk, who told me this after I inquired why I wasn't able to access through the side door, wasn't fully aware and said she would check with the owner and get back to me. She read off my contact info to me, which was correct so they can't say they didn't have a way to contact me.

Second, the front desk folks don't really know what's going on. With the previous point, the girl working looked new so I give her grace. But I have gone in and asked someone who was there for a while about things and they had no information. One being about the group classes they have and they couldn't find a schedule.

Third and last, the sanitation. Within the last 2 months they went from providing each goer their own spray bottle and towel to wipe down equipment to having stations around the gym with spray bottles and paper towels, now to just having sanitation wipes. I loved the dedicated bottle and towel. The switch to the paper towel and spray stations was good, just like other commercial gyms. My issue with this tho was that the paper towel dispensers would be empty or just not working. Also there wouldn't be a trash can right next to it, the can would be somewhere else. But the last time I went there were no spray bottles at the dispensers just a couple sanitation wipe bins around the gym but they were all empty except one at the entrance. Idk but I feel like if people can't even re-rack their weights, they aren't going to walk across the gym to a sanitation wipe to clean the equipment they just used.

I’d like to say that although the price has recently increased, I still love this gym. It’s so clean, the community is great and the trainers are passionate. I recently moved from PG county and I can say I paid $22 biweekly and an annual fee of $85 for a gym that was closed on Sundays, had hours from 7am-8pm, and only had one sauna and it was half the size of this gym. I love that this gym is open 24 hours, I love that the owner consistently has new equipment that isn’t broken and the gym itself is HUGE. The biggest plus is that the gym always smells clean.. no nasty gym smell. The refrigerator for drinks is always stocked, the protein snacks are convenient and the overall design of the gym is exactly what I would want in a gym.

I first want to point out that the community(which includes fellow patrons and gym staff ) in this gym is amazing. After coming here for 3 months I have yet to meet anyone toxic here! Another big plus is that it's truly 24/7 (9am-10pm staffed then rest of time unstaffed). As someone who primarily works out after midnight I am glad we have a gym that is 24/7 in the area (the only one!!!). For the price of 24.99 a month you cannot beat it. On July 21,2024 we received a email stating that on August 5 Instead of a one time charge a month of 24.99 there will be a biweekly charge of 24.99 practically charging $50 a month. The email stated that the price increase was due to upcoming gym renovations and improvements ( including locker room and new equipment ). The email also stated that this increase was recommended by third party business advisers. In my 30 plus years of living I have never seen or heard of any service doubling their monthly rate in less then a month notice. Not only that but there is no timetable or roadmap when these upgrades will be available. I understand that there is no gym in the area that is 24/7 and I know that the competitors charge a very high amount. But the gyms are double in size compared to this one. The local La Fitness has a pool and sports courts. Its impossible for this gym to get those amenities. These were all points made from fellow gym goers. The mood is not good. If the owner is reading I want to let you know that I will NOT be leaving and I am going to stick around. I am just worried that a community that I just joined and enjoy is in jeopardy. Is it possible to simply gradually increase the price to the target margin while the gym upgrades get completed? Are you able to give a detailed plan or a roadmap of all future enhancements and upgrades with etas to justify the price hike?! Its very hard for me to tell my friends or family to joins this gym for $50 a month with no timetable on improvements or without the same amenities the other gyms provide( referring to the refer a friend program). On July 21, I received an email from the owner of this gym into utter surprise not only will there be a price increase but it’s double. Not only is $50 a month ridiculous, the gym isn’t in a state to make the price justify a double increase at the moment. These changes have been warranted since it was World Gym. Renovating a locker room that had rust stains isn’t necessarily a groundbreaking moment.We need a detailed outline with dates and future renovations and what has been done. Imagine gas prices doubling in less then a month ? Would anyone be ok with that? Whoever was hired to look over the businesses financial decisions is not concerned about the clients or their wallets. My suggestion is two different tiers subscriptions one that is $30-35a month but has access to the gym only during staffed hours, the 24/7 with all amenities subscription would be fine somewhere around $35-40 a month. LA fitness has pool and a racquetball and do not charge 50 a month! If something changes maybe I’ll update this review but until then me and the other patrons that go to this gym well discuss if we want to cancel and go another gym.I will like to add that my fellow gym goers mood is morbid the moment.Also how are we supposed to talk to staff about the changes when they themselves didn’t know either, guess everyone is surprised and disappointed, gym staff even admitted they will be losing a lot of people this month due to this unreasonable decision. I advise not to go here till someone makes a smarter choice for the business. People are always coming through the side door for free and I have to pay double now? I love this gym! I visited several gyms in area before committing to Exurb and have been locked in for more than three years now.
The staff are all very encouraging, have great energy, and most importantly are all professional.

The gym itself, has a welcoming atmosphere, good music if you forget your headphones, and a variety of equipment (that is fully operational). And it is located on the second-level which allows you to overlook the hockey rink and basketball courts during and in-between sets.

I love coming here. I moved to this area almost 3 years ago. I started at planet fitness until I saw this gym and immediately cancelled my planet fitness membership. I felt the atmosphere here was amazing. I have created amazing friendships and accountability partners. If I miss a day I normally workout people really notice and will ask if I'm okay when I come back in. I have always felt super safe and comfortable to workout here without having creeps follow me or watch me working out. The guys really look out for the women here. My husband had a membership when we lived in Maryland 3 YEARS AGO (back when it was World Gym). We went together in 2020 to cancel the membership in person. He went to one of the staff members and explained that we had to move due to my husband's work (as he's in the Air Force and was getting a change of station). The staff member said that was no issue and went and cancelled his membership then and there - - or so we thought.

My husband got a confirmation that it was cancelled, and yet he just got a phone call from a legal office that Exurb Fitness tried to charge my husband $90 in 2022 (2 years after he cancelled his membership). He did not receive any kind of notice or email about the gym trying to charge him at all (and he definitely did not reactivate his membership as we don't even live in the state anymore). Reading the other reviews on here, it's obvious that this isn't the first time this gym has tried to milk its clientele, even years later.

Over the years I’ve been a member at multiple gyms. One I visited a handful of times and then just stopped going even though I was paying the monthly, but it was cheap, I didn’t care. I simply never felt comfortable there. So I never went. And as a woman you need to feel comfortable to let yourself into the vulnerable state of working out. I previously used this gym a handful of times because it was part of my husbands plan but later chose the sister location because it felt newer and prettier. But coming back with a friend to Waldorf Exurb and deciding to join, I realized something changed here. Let’s face it, a gym is a gym. We look for affordability, equipment, cleanliness. And this place checks all the boxes. But what I’ve come to figure out is it’s-the people. The day shift crew (Kelcey, Frank,Jason) have made the gym welcoming and fun. And the members are always quick with a smile and a wave and on occasion some friendly conversation. We share ideas on fitness and follow each others lead. Jason has been especially helpful with new exercises, motivation, and a spot when needed. I’ve never felt so comfortable and am truly sad the days I don’t make it in. Nobody likes to do hard things, but when you’re in the comfort of your gym-family, it just makes it all happen.

Update: One month later and I have another charge on my account under the new name.

They have been charging me for the past 4 months after I've called 5 times to have them cancel my membership. The initial cancellation was in person. The second, third fourth, and fifth were over the phone. I've received 3 cancellation emails, but it's still a problem. It's gotten to the point of me having to put a stop payment on my card. The last time I spoke with an employee about the issue, I was assured my account was canceled and then today I get a call saying my payment declined. Apparently, there is no manager working here because I've been trying to reach one for the past 3 months. I've requested calls back and still haven't heard anything.

Staff and gym are excellent but the owner or whoever manages their communications needs a lesson or ten in customer service. Do not belittle your customers for asking sincere questions. Very unfortunate because everything else about this gym was great.

7:30 am sunday morning and World Gym Waldorf not open. Employee says he can't get the key out the lock box. Extremely disappointed because I drive 30 min from Oxon Hill.

Original post was 5 months ago. I filled out a cancelation form and 3/5/2020 I received all call from a debt collector with a $400 balance. I have been unable to reach them by phone. l left two voicemails. I hope to get this situation resolved. I really want to believe it was just negligence and a not a criminal act by staff and owners to suck and leach hard earned money from customers.

So my first impression of this gym is not good and I have yet to even step foot in it. I have been calling for several days to inquire about a membership, have left voicemails and even sent a text. Convenient facility. Nice, friendly clientele. Rarely has consistent hot water, though. Have mentioned situation repeatedly to management in past year, it is temporarily repaired, & then ICE cold water returns & is all that is available. Don’t plan on showering & going to work if you want to workout early here, water is cold!

Came to Waldorf for the week and purchased a weekly membership for $15. You can't beat this price for such a great place to workout. This is the only gym I'll use when I'm in town.

Reasons why I’m rating this gym a 1 before trying it...I called earlier today to confirm the mixxed fit class at 730pm as advertised on the website. It was most definitely confirmed. I arrive to the gym around 720 pm (gym closes at 10pm) and the doors are locked. Luckily someone walking in knew there was a door on the side. There were no signs indicating to do so. But anyway, I go in and asked an employee by the name of Logan (at least that’s what he said his name was. He was sitting at the snack bar eating. Light skin with a struggling bush around 720pm on 5/3/2019. Check your schedule manager). Not only did he not know what I was talking about, not only did he tell me to come back tomorrow at 8am, not only did he say nobody else was there that I could talk to, but he was extremely rude, dismissive, and nonchalant about my frustration for wasting my time, gas, and energy for a class that didn’t happen. So yea...I’m done. How ridiculous. I started to just workout anyway without the class that I’ve been looking forward to all week, but your employee and his lack of empathy has completely turned me off. Please get him some type of customer service and any other type of training if you want to keep your business going. My irritation level is on 1,000. I could see if he said “you know what I’m sorry about the miscommunication but here’s the information on the class and you can still get a good workout in utilizing our equipment readily available for your use.” But no, he was clueless, obviously just there taking up space and eating snacks, and couldn’t care less about anything other than the Doritos he kept smacking in my face. Didn’t even care about the crumbs around his mouth, let alone the customers.

If I could give half a star, I would. The only thing I like about this place is the trainers. Steve, Daniel, and Alex are absolutely amazing. The lockers rooms are spacious although not always the cleanest. What makes me extremely upset is the charges. They have completely messed over my contract and keep telling me I need to pay more money for the same training sessions I’ve been attending. When I went to ask about my contract on multiple occasions, I was told conflicting information by the same damn person. They are attempting to terminate my contract prematurely, but that’s okay. I don’t even think it’s wise to go back. I probably won’t. Thanks for everything, World Gym.

I have been coming to world gym for some time now and this year is my first with having trainers. I needed to lose a few pounds because I had a few trips to attend over the summer. Since January, I have seen amazing results. My training is every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5:00 am. My trainers are Danny and Alex and they are great trainers. I highly recommend them. They both push you to the max and they don't allow you to slack which is what I needed. Thanks a million gentlemen keep up the good work and see you all soon.

I started going to World gym waldorf back in March. I have developed a love for fitness since. The reason for this is my personal trainer Josh. He has managed to bring out capabilities in me I did not knew I had. Over this course Josh has constantly identifies more efficient ways for me to work on my strengths and flexibility. In his very calming voice he gives constructive feedback while motivating me to do my best. Josh continues to work effectively with me achieving my body weight goals and now targeting specific areas. Coach Alex is one of the trainers who is very motivational and keeps you on track while having fun with the exercises. Just terrible, they try to get you sign up saying, cancel anytime, then they turn around,, and say you have to stay a member if you try to leave, and you have to keep paying monthly fee even if you don't use it, took me forever to get my membership cancelled. Don't beleive them, when thy say "cancel anytime" because it ain't the case!!!

Well I only just started at the gym but they lie about the hours. It says that you guys are open at midnight and I tried going in at 4 A.M and again at 6 AM and both times the main and side doors are locked. It's not that hard to either open when your supposed to or change the time on your google page.

The dumbbells only go up to 80 and the one 80 they have is old and has an awkward grip. I feel the waldorf world gym should take a look at the La Plata world gym and try to be a bit more like them. Also the caged in area with the classes is ridiculous! They are so loud that I cannot even hear the music coming from my head phones. Wold it kill them to build an actual wall? The staff could learn a thing or two from the La Plata World gym too. I've gone in there a few times and found the receptionist asleep in the chair across from the desk. In short the staff is unprofessional and based on everyone else's reviews plus having a bad grade with the BBB it's amazing they haven't closed yet. Would love for a new gym to replace it. Or just let La Plata World gym manage both

Did not enjoy going here, they keep their locker room dirty, they had such a loud classes in the evening that you could not hear yourself think over the microphone. And yes, listen to these others too they do try to bill you after you leave, I made sure to get a receipt and they still tried sending me a bill after I left, I had to call before they cancel it. Oh and one male employee was CREEPY with me when I left, got right up in my personal space trying to get me to stay. Guess he thought he was being cute. Nope!

Unfortunately, the customer service, classes, and equipment do not compare to other gyms in the area. After two bad experiences with staff, I cancelled my membership and went elsewhere. It’s unfortunate because this gym has great hours. If you go later in the evening, I suggest going with someone. After hours, the main entrance is closed and you have to enter through the side entrance, which can be a target area. Lastly, be very cautious with “special programs” offered outside of your membership. I felt scammed after enrolling my son in their summer fitness program. After paying (in-full), I was told that I would be contacted with reporting instructions. Several weeks passed and I hadn’t received any information, so I followed-up with the gym. During the call, I was told that I was contacted and the program had been going on for a few weeks. As a paying customer, how dare you dispute that I was contacted? And, how dare you take my money with absolutely no intention of providing the agreed upon service. Hopefully, things have improved, as I cancelled in fall, 2016. I am posting this response now because I have more favorable gym experiences to compare this gym to. Major difference.

Oh yeah, they're soooo nice to you when you sign up, offer you a deal for 15.99 a month. Too bad after you cancel, they'll keep charging your account. I went IN PERSON to cancel my account, filled out their cancellation form, only to find they were still charging me. Then after I talked to them they told me I was in the wrong because I didn't also send a letter?! Tell me where it says you have to send a letter? I'm about to take this to the BBB if they don't fix this!
