In 1964, our family started a small gymnastics and dance studio in Bowie, Maryland. Today, we still have that small center feeling with our location here in Florida and our current center in Washington DC, we just have a few more students than we used to. Family values are as important to us today as as they were back then. It’s important to us to always put our students first and to have a gym that is a positive learning place for kids.

MGA Gymnastics Bowie has been such a great find! The coaches are kind, patient, and truly supportive of every child’s pace. It’s a welcoming place for homeschooling families to build confidence, strength, and social skills in a positive environment. Highly recommend!

I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. I arrived 15 minutes late for a free trial class and had called several times to confirm whether we could still attend, but no one answered the phone. When I arrived, there were two people at the front desk, which made the lack of response frustrating. Once inside, the class felt unorganized. The preschool teacher seemed to focus only on the regular students and barely acknowledged my child. Lastly, the waiting area was crowded with people who didn’t appear to be staff or participants—more like entire families (entire households and extended cousins, aunties, and uncles) accompanying one child. It made the environment feel chaotic and unprofessional.

I love MGA! My daughter Jessie attended here for a year. She had no experience but LOVES gymnastics. She began in pink. Coach Michelle noticed her skills and invited her to Pink plus where she began to advance and placed 1st place in 2 in house competitions. She was promoted to Bronze after that. Where she learned more challenging skills. Coach Michelle recommended we consider competitive gymnastics. Which lets me know MGA is not money driven. They genuinely care about the gymnasts and are invested in their growth and development.
I did as she suggested and took my daughters to another gym to try out for their pre competitive team. The coaches were impressed and she was invited to join their level 3 team! My daughter just completed her first year in competitive gymnastics and she did amazing! Placing in every competition and bringing home 2 medals at states. She has been promoted to level 4. I say all this to say, MGA is huge reason for her success. They build fundamental skills and foster growth. I highly recommend MGA if you have a beginner. MGA is the place to go!

My child 1yr. anniversary with MGA was just celebrated and we both ABSOLUTELY love that this place. She has advanced through 3 levels since starting. Both the owner and GM are extremely accommodating and family orientated; the coaches are knowledgeable both in technique and training small ones; there is space where parents can stay (& they have WiFi if you need to work); it’s just an amazing facility that your child can grow in BUT NEVER grow out of. It is literally something for each level. I haven’t experienced any “cons” thus far. So, if you’re looking for a place, give them a try. They’ve been in business
30+years. And NO, I’m not a paid spokesperson lol.

I recently signed my daughter up for this gym because she loves gymnastics. She went to another gym before this one but we moved states, so I was trying to find her one that she’d love. However, my daughter attended one session & upon arrival I wasn’t too fond of the place, but I decided to give it a try for my child. The first reason I wasn’t too ecstatic was the lack of energy. No one welcomed my daughter, introduced themselves, or really made my daughter feel welcomed. We just walked into zombie land. I noticed that none of the parents interact with each other & it seems like a very hostile environment. I got a smile from one coach in the room (she’s petite, dark skin & seems like an amazing coach) but there were about 4 there lol nobody else cracked a smile in that place ! Fast forward to today, my daughter was supposed to go to class. I had to pay her tuition, so I did. Shortly before class an emergency came up with transportation. We would no longer be able to make it, and I just wanted to go ahead and withdraw her from the class. It was like my 3rd confirmation. I’ve paid a total of $150 and she’s only been to one session. I dont know if I just expected too much but the gym seems different than portrayed online. Its not much of a welcoming environment. When I asked Barbara, who I believe is the owner, if I could have a refund…(because it’s stated in the policy that refunds will be honored if there’s an emergency): She 1st refused to give me a refund & then after I told her that I would just take my review to Google, she then decided to offer me a refund. (I know that a lot of these places are money driven, so when you threaten to tell the truth on a public platform they ALWAYS offer a refund immediately. Never fails…but this is Christian based so I expected different) After giving me a refund, she labeled it in the system “Do not allow back” although we weren’t going to be doing that anyway, I thought that was VERY unprofessional. The energy through emails pretty much let me know that I made the right decision for my child. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend to a friend. I believe everyone should make their own judgements, just like I did after initially reading reviews…but I thought that this review would be helpful for other mothers. Goodluck & Best Wishes !

I attended this gym as a little girl(24 years ago), and I recently felt compelled to search for it and leave a review. Growing up, I remember Barber teaching me how to do a back handspring and a backflip. Those memories came flooding back when my son expressed interest in learning to do a backflip.
I started using the same methods Barber taught me (though I’m no professional!), and it brought a smile to my face. This place gave me lifelong memories, and I can confidently say it’s a wonderful environment worth enrolling your child in.

ZERO STARS!!!
This place is basically ran by teens, with little adult supervision. We had a few minor incidents here, but the final straw was Coach Evelyn calling my young child stupid.
I voiced my concerns to the owner who stated she would discipline and “probably” remove her. However, when I came in the next day expecting to speak to the coach in person, the owner stated she wasn’t present, which my children later told me was a lie. The young ladies at the front desk also told me that they’ve had other complaints about this coach, yet she was still allowed to work with children.
Do not send your kids here, unless you want to them to be bullied, verbally abused, and talked down to by staff who are supposed to be teaching them gymnastics in a positive and supportive environment. Management also lacks accountability and are willing to lie and brush incidents under the rug. I’m disgusted by how this place conducts business and treats children.

The pricing of MGA Gymnastics is very affordable, however, that's pretty much the best part. I signed my son up for Tumbling and Boys Gymnastics classes and he spent the majority of the time just running around playing and entertaining himself when the teacher wasn't paying attention to him. My son has a ton of energy and enjoys playing here, which is the only reason he remained for the rest of the month. He did not learn much of anything. Once the teacher shows one kid a particular move once, that's it. The tell the kid to practice that particular move without really helping them improve or do it correctly and then the teacher moves on to teaching another move. There doesn't seem to be an actual curriculum or method for improvement. Also, there is a serious lack of structure due to several classes going on at the same time in close proximity. Again, the majority of the time, my son just ran around jumping on random gymnastics equiptment until it was his turn to cartwheel or flip. When ever the teacher wasn't helping a particular kid, they literally just ran off and entertained themselves until something else was taught. Literally all of the kids did this, so my son just followed along. I feel like I only paid for a children's playtime class to be honest, but again, for the price you can't really expect much more I suppose.

Although the competitive program is no longer offered, they are fantastic if you want to build skills and have fun. My daughter goes there for summer camp and after just 3 weeks I was able to see the change in her poster and strength. MGA was great for my daughters’ needs, she does cheer, dance, and acro. She was able to physically grow as an athlete in just 3 weeks. Had I known how challenging and fun they were I would have booked more weeks for her. The quality of service is in line with pricing, and they happen to be a lot cheaper than some of the other gymnastics and tumbling camps I've seen.

I love that I found an extra curricular activity that is suitable for my active son! But I couldn’t give this program 5 stars because of the lack of structure at times. Most times children are standing around waiting for their turn instead of being active the entire time. The class is an hour and the children spend at least 20 mins standing around. Honestly, there should be more than one instructor especially for bigger class sizes. My child is active and because he has to stand around waiting for his turn, he tends to get bored and starts entertaining himself. One “particular” instructor is not too fond of that and many times has sat him out because he is not using his listening ears. Which in my opinion is unacceptable. I believe children should learn the art of patience but I am not paying for him to “sit out” other than that it’s a great program! & I do recommend It- just needs a bit more structure!

They resently started to reward kids with candy after every class.
Too bad 🥺 Otherwise the place, staff and level of work are nice. However, it's all not worth it if the price to pay is sugar addiction. I had to make a tough decision after a very nice year with them. They were firm on continuing doing that.

Lazy and inconsistent teachers that spend most of their times checking their watches and yawning rather than teaching for the preschool class. Don’t waste your money and time here. I definitely would not recommend.

Next month will make it one year since we’ve been a part of the MGA family. My daughters came in with no experience and are now more confident working on each skill. I love the fact that you get to see and interact with the owners often. They are very involved and will even take over teaching if they are short on staff. Speaking of the staff, I love the coaches. They’re firm but so patient with the kids. I particularly appreciated this because my youngest daughter struggles with staying with her classes and being focused. I love all the ladies who have had a chance to teach my girls, ESPECIALLY Coach Michelle. When it’s really high enrollment, get ready for a full spectator section and challenging class transitions as everyone tries to navigate space.

We had my son's first not at home party here today. Sam and the young lady (I don't want to butcher her name but it started with an S) were wonderful party hosts. And there was another young lady who helped with set up when we arrived. We had such a good time one of my friends signed her son up for camp before leaving. From booking to clean up this was a great party experience. Every email and phone call was answered promptly. My son is shy about trying new things and he and his friends had a great time
Thanks for helping us to have a wonderful day of celebration!

My 2 year old daughter did the trial class and will now be going once a week for preschool classes. From what I saw in the trial, the kids are introduced to a variety of skills. My only issue is that the website needs to be updated. You cannot tell from the website which classes are full. I ended up driving up to the gym with my daughter and my daughter not being able to participate due to the classes being full. You should also be able to choose which class you're signing up for when you pay online.

My experience at this gym has been great all around. The coaches at the gym are patient and talented. I have heard that mostly all the coaches were actually students at the gym when they were younger. Wowwww in my opinion that is great to know that they have experience in this sport. The owner of the gym is kind and ensures a safe environment as well as a great time for everyone. The gym also holds camps during the summer that allow kids to have more time to learn new skills and clean up old ones. During COVID, I was a little hesitant as to whether or not the gym would uphold the proper standards to keep everyone safe. And once I got to the gym I knew I had nothing to worry about. The coaches separate the larger groups of kids so that it isn’t crowded and they clean in between classes. I was and still am pleased with this gym’s facility, staff, and dedication.

Great instructors! My 8 year old learned to do the backhand spring in 3 months. The facility is well maintained and the staff members are friendly. There is never a shortage of hand sanitizers for gymnasts and their parents. The class is crowded on certain days than others but the instructors makes sure all the kids take part in each training session.

My daughter loved doing gymnastics here. The owner was always nice. Teachers changed often and classes were over crowded but watching the skills of the older girls gave me hope that my daughter could get to a high level of expertise there too. They are very talented and disciplined. Unfortunately we stopped classes because the building is simply dirty. Its obviously an old facility and the old, musty, mildew odor hits you as soon as you enter . The bathrooms and lobby definitely need to be redone. Carpet too. Its holds too many germs and smells. It's time! Ants, roaches, mouse traps. Really gave me a creepy feeling.

If I could rate a zero I would. Such a waste of time. The young man obviously has not worked with toddlers ever in his life. No enthusiasm, looked frustrated and asked for the time about 5 times. Not to mention taking two toddlers over the area where the older kids were while having no control of the situation. This place should be closed down!

I started at this gym in 2008, mainly due to the family values of the owner/staff. I had visited several gyms in the area before making a decision, talking with a few of the staff at each, but I felt most comfortable here. I'm sure that there is no such thing as a perfect gym, perfect coaches, or perfect people; everyone has their own idea of what they're looking for. But over the years that my children (and I have 5, all enrolled) have been students here I have always found the staff concerned about the welfare/growth of my children, personally as well as in the sport. I will say that you should be prepared, as the owners are constantly trying to improve and so things do change at the gym, such as the layout, equipment, waiting areas, etc.
