I've been to the OTFs in Potomac, Kentlands, and Leesburg, but Rockville South has my kind of vibe (11am/12pm weekdays). Not a rave (thank goodness), low key, freedom to modify moves without being bothered, reasonable lighting and sound level.

I don't think all previous reviews are for the same OTF studio. This one is for Rockville South. I've been coming off and on for the past 3 or so years using up a gift card, recently got monthly membership. I've had good experiences and good instructors.

Teri knows your name and has a positive attitude. She's good with instruction and giving you wipes to clean equipment. She lets you do you.

My review is about this orange theory branch,
They are very inflexible. Life happens — being a few minutes late once shouldn’t mean losing your spot. One time I arrived 7 minute late and They gave my spot to someone in waitlist! On top of that, the workouts aren’t great and there are no Friday evening classes, which makes it hard to fit into a normal schedule.
Better go to other branches

Why are you outside in the parking lot blasting music at 150 decibels? It's 9am on a Saturday morning in a residential area.

I joined Orangeberry Fitness because of how friendly and responsive the team was when I signed up. I felt welcomed and appreciated, and the communication at the beginning was great.

Unfortunately, the experience changed drastically when I tried to cancel. I went in person, signed the necessary forms, but the staff was quite rude and made me feel like I was a burden. Since then, I’ve been charged again even though I canceled my membership properly.

What’s worse is that no one is picking up the phone, and I’ve called several times with no response or follow-up. This lack of professionalism and care during the cancellation process is disappointing. I can’t recommend this place based on how poorly they’ve handled this situation.

I can't say enough great things about Teri at Orange Theory Fitness! Since starting her classes, my body has transformed significantly, and I’ve never felt more motivated. Teri is incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and always pushes me to give my best. Her energy and dedication are contagious, making every workout both challenging and enjoyable. Thank you, Teri, for being such an amazing coach and helping me achieve my fitness goals!

We went for our first complementary class and did arrive 25 mins early instead of 30 mins early. It took us a little bit of time to find parking, which i mentioned as soon as I got in. When there we waited for additional 8-10 mins before anyone would talk to us other than saying hello. We weren’t allowed to do our free class as apparently we were ‘“late”. We called the Potomac OT as soon as we got to our car. And they offered to have us in their next class. We said we won’t be able t get there 30 mins early they said it’s fine! Potomac OT scheduled us for a class gave us a tour and were wonderful! Another fun fact my friend tried to buy a water bottle as a gift for us, and she wasn’t allowed to buy it as she isn’t a member. Kept her waiting for 15 mins before telling her that. Needless to say we will NEVER go to this OT establishment unless they change the front desk staff. I’m sure the classes are good, but the front desk ppl are just awful. I would love to say it’s not cz how we look, but I definitely felt like we were being treated differently because of how we look.

Love orangetheory- best workout!! Always challenging and pushes my limits.

Rockville is not my home studio but I'm always warmly welcomed & greeted kindly. I love that this studio class times are different than Park or Bethesda- provides good alternatives. The studio is well kept - clean and equipment is always in good condition.

Sheina & the team are awesome!!!

If you are African American DO NOT GO. They do NOT want your business. And don’t deserve to have it. Despite being the First person to arrive for class more than 15 minutes prior to start time, and having submitted the forms online, the front desk, Chloe and Shana, refused to allow me in class. They said they needed more time to “get to know me better.” I was a member at OTF for years pre-pandemic and was considering rejoining. Not after how I was treated. NO ONE called nor did they send any text message or email stating that if I was not there more than 30 minutes prior to class that I would be refused admission. No one class participants were at the studio when I arrived. They had ample time to “get to know me.” Upon seeing me, however, they decided to decline my entrance and admission to class. TAKE YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE.

UPDATE from 2024: I still love OTF Rockville South as much as I did the day I joined in 2021. It's the best way to get a complete workout and achieve well-rounded fitness with just a bite-sized time commitment. The coaches and staff at OTF Rockville South are all amazing, especially the regular afternoon/weekend coaches Teri, Sheina, and Sean. The studio is also well-managed - whenever anything breaks down, they fix it as quickly as they can. This is literally the first time in my life I've ever stuck with a fitness routine for more than a year and I don't see myself quitting anytime soon.

Original Review from 2021: I joined the Orangetheory Fitness Rockville South studio as a founding member and I am already in love and addicted. The equipment is top-notch and I really like the integration with your heart rate monitor, app, and online account. In addition to the detailed and real-time instructions from the coach, you also get real-time feedback on all the screens.

After only two sessions, I am already getting the hang of it to the point where I am no longer nervous about being able to do anything correctly. And even though I am not able to perform all the reps of all the exercises just yet, they structure the workouts in a way that challenges everyone without discouraging anyone regardless of fitness level. So I can already see myself improving greatly in the future.

The team at Orangetheory Fitness Rockville South are all energetic, positive, and encouraging. I've already made a few new friends among the other attendees, and even though there is a sense of camaraderie, there's also a sense of everyone doing their own thing throughout the workouts, especially once everyone is coming and going between the rowers and floor exercises at different paces/times.

Perhaps the most important advantage that Orangetheory has over all of my previous gym experiences (and there have been many) is that it packs so much of a complete workout into just one hour, and it sets aside both time and space/equipment just for me. The workouts change every time, and the instruction is so good that I never have to worry about preparing anything or thinking at all - I can just follow the coach's instructions along with the animations on the screen the moment I forget how to do something.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone, especially if you have had trouble feeling like you fit in at other gyms/workouts.

I joined OTF Rockville South in October 2021. My cardio endurance and muscle strength have greatly improved since then. I love that the workout template changes every day, and I really enjoy the signature workouts and monthly challenges. There is ample parking available at this location, which I greatly appreciate compared to other studios I’ve visited. All of the sales associates are wonderful and always willing to answer questions, especially Amanda and Chloe. My favorite coaches at this location (Sheina, Teri, and Sean) do a great job at explaining the templates, demoing exercises, pushing/motivating you through the workout, and supporting your fitness goals. If you’re on the fence about joining like I initially was, remember that YOU decide how intense your workout is, the coaches are simply there to guide and encourage you. In addition, there are multiple pricing options to accommodate essentially any budget.

Great workout and great people. I have been going to OTF Rockville South since October 2021. I have loved cardio for a long time, but struggled to do strength or weight training on my own. This place has been perfect for me, because it combines both. Never before have I done such consistent strength and weight training.

I also really appreciate that I haven't heard any of the trainers or front desk staff promoting unhealthy eating habits and I believe this place is welcoming of fitness at any size. Gyms and wellness places can get toxic, so I love this place for supporting everyone.

** Do NOT join **

06/21: Per the promotion, I joined as an Elite Member (8 classes per month) for $129.00/monthly, to be billed on the 21st of every month.

06/23: Attended my first class at the OrangeTheory in Rockville.

07/08: Attended my first class at the OrangeTheory in Park Potomac.

09/04 & 10/03: OrangeTheory Charged my credit card on file for the $129.00/monthly membership. I never received correspondence from OrangeTheory as to why the billing date has changed.

10/06: Attended my last class at the OrangeTheory in Rockville.
10/07: Attended my last class at the OrangeTheory in Park Potomac.

11/01: Emailed OrangeTheory, requesting to cancel my membership and requesting directions for the next steps. An OrangeTheory personnel responded and told me that I needed to FWD the email to their manager and that the manager would take care of it for me. I FWD the email over to the manager.

11/04: OrangeTheory Charged my credit card on file for the $129.00/monthly membership. Contacted my credit card and informed them that I had sent an email to OrangeTheory, requesting the cancellation. Thought that they had billed me accidentally. My credit card company provided me with the credit back to my account.

11/23: Received a phone call from OrangeTheory. The personnel stated that she was calling because she noticed that I haven’t taken a class for three (3) weeks, and she wanted to know if she could book a class for me. I informed her that I was at the airport, on my way out of the country, and that I was confused since I’d sent an email requesting to cancel my membership.

11/27: Still out of the country, I received an email from Cassandra Lansing, the studio manager at the OrangeTheory in Rockville. She informed me that they did not have any records of my cancellation form and that if I was unable to provide the cancellation form, then they needed to chargeback to be paid. I informed her of my situation (I’m planning on splitting my time between the states and Europe and that I wouldn’t be able to utilize my membership). I never heard back from anyone after I'd FWD the email to the studio manager.

11/30: Cassandra informed me that they needed a thirty (30) day notice and that a cancellation form needed to be signed and sent to their studio in Rockville. She reiterated that they where never aware of the cancellation and I needed to pay $129.00; otherwise, they will not provide the cancellation form for me to fill out and complete. If they don’t receive a cancellation form, then they will consider my account active and they will continue to bill me. I wanted the cancellation form first to review prior to remitting any payment. OrangeTheory refused to provide the forms unless I pay the $129.00 first.

12/04: OrangeTheory charged my credit card on file for the $129.00/monthly membership. They changed their name from "OrangeTheory Rockville" to “OTF Rockville” in order to run the unauthorized charged. This was disputed.

12/13: Received an email from OrangeTheory thanking me for my “recent in-studio charge.” The charge is in the amount of $139.00, to be charged on 01/04/23. I never authorized nor did I agree to this.

12/14: Received a letter from Kinum informing me that they’re a debt collection company and that they’re trying to collect a debt for $129.00 owed to OrangeTheory. The letter was dated 12/05/2022.

The interaction felt like they were trying to extort me for money first before they would release the form to me. Similar to other former members, I've filed a report against this OrangeTheory to the Consumer Protection Division, Federal Trade Commission, Maryland Attorney General, and Better Business Bureau.

Christopher S. from Orangetheory Fitness Rockville South is amazing. He is personable, welcoming, and inspiring. He was my first introduction to the Rockville South location and was one of the main reasons I joined. In addition, I love what Orangetheory has to offer and I am very happy I found this workout. I love Rockville’s Orange Theory Fitness classes. I am not a morning person, but I find myself looking forward to the next early morning classes. The classes start my days! The routine of weights, rowers, and trend-mills challenge me to work harder to meet my fitness goals. I am excited when I feel my base # increasing (join a class to find out what that means) Christopher and the coaches led by Sheina are the best and will help you through the process.

Although I was reluctant to join, already belonging to another gym, I am so glad I did. Awesome manageable fun & effective workout. You get a whole body workout in 60 min. Instructors are very motivating & you can really make the workout your own. Highly recommend.

I don’t write reviews and I don’t workout…yet Orangetheory has inspired me to do both! My family, friends, co-workers, and cat are all tired of me talking about how amazing this place is – so that’s where you come in Dear Reader 😉 I happened to first hear about Orangetheory through a co-worker. When I started seeing announcements for this particular location’s grand opening, I was curious. Once I found out treads AND strength training were part of the workout, I knew I had to join – those are surprisingly the two forms of exercise I enjoy the most (if one can ‘enjoy’ exercising, lol). I was nervous about signing up and attending my first class, but the staff here is absolutely amazing and welcoming. The Studio Manager, Seth, is quick to introduce himself and to get to know the members. The SAs I’ve interacted with during my visits (mainly Christopher) greet us by name and check in with us after class to see how we’re feeling. The coaches are all equally amazing, in various ways. Coach Joie is patient and encouraging – I don’t know how many times she has had to show me the correct form for TRX exercises or planks, but she is great every time. Coach Teri is always encouraging throughout the session; her classes have a chill vibe and the time flies by. Coach Lucinda is upbeat and energetic. She must be a DJ in her spare time cause her playlists never disappoint; those BPMs are on point! Just when I think I’m going to drop my speed/incline to take a breather, the song changes and I’m fired up! The music selection really plays a huge part motivating the class, I love it. Head Coach Sheina is Head Coach for a reason: she’s been absolutely amazing. She always asks us to check in with ourselves, to see how we’re feeling during the workouts and to remember why we showed up. She’s encouraged me to dig deep. When I think I can’t do any better, I end up increasing my speed by .1-.2. It may not seem like a lot, but when I’ve convinced myself I’m going to die on the treads at an 8% - 10% incline, a little goes a long way.

Don’t let the group workout deter you from joining; everyone is too busy at their own stations to notice if you’re near collapse at your own. I’m a power walker and probably will be for a while (lower back pain and random joint aches). At first I felt I wasn’t working as hard as my neighbors, but this workout is literally what you make it. The coaches will tell you what the exercise is and what you should be doing, but you can always modify it. Lift heavier, increase your incline/speed – it’s about how you feel. You might not be able to lift as heavy or run as fast as the day before, but that’s ok. Sometimes it’s just about showing up. I didn’t think I was ever going to like the rower. However, a couple of the workouts during Hell Week changed my perspective. One had me rowing for 14 minutes straight. Another workout included rowing the same distance four different ways for a total of 23 minutes. The rower is still not my favorite, however I now grudgingly respect it. I surprised myself by accomplishing something I thought I couldn’t do, and I’m better for it.

I can’t recommend Orangetheory enough! This isn’t an intimidating gym at all. The members are friendly, the staff is awesome and the workouts are fun. Come drink the orange Kool-Aid and join us under the orange lights!

Orange Theory Rockville got me back into working out after working out from home lost its motivation and fun for me! It was so great to be back in a class environment and I finally feel like me again. I love that every class is what you make it - you can choose to push yourself in different areas and all levels including showing up are encouraged. Coaches Sheina and Lucinda are amazing, and the whole staff couldn't be nicer. So glad I found this little community!

I am new to Orange Theory. I’d read a lot about them and was always interested in joining. I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to keep up. Still It did seem a little intimidating to see all those people working out so hard. Finally I made the plunge and joined this new location at Rockville. Coach Sheina and Coach Teri have been so amazing to me. I never feel that I can’t ask questions or get adjustments for the exercises if I need it. You really feel that you’re part of a team and your only real competition is yourself. I recommend it to all my friends (most of them don’t live near unfortunately)
