Very friendly staff and members. The setup is super cool with 3 workout spaces. You have the option to workout with a class in the main gym or do your own open workout in one of the other two areas. Very spacious and clean. Highly recommended! I’m in town for 6 weeks and am loving it!

After a year of practicing solo and following John on Instagram, I finally joined my first in-person Animal Flow class. Even though it was a free jam session, John brought great energy and made the experience incredibly engaging. We repeated some movements over 10 times, but his guidance and enthusiasm kept it fun and motivating throughout. I’m excited to join the beginner classes soon to deepen my understanding of the flow and build a stronger foundation. Highly recommend to anyone curious about Animal Flow!

This was my first time attending a kettlebell sport class at Tough Temple. The workout was a strength-focused circuit with a handful of exercises I was unfamiliar with. Mike was an excellent instructor, breaking down the movements and providing cues during the circuit, while keeping everyone's energy and engagement high. The gym is well stocked with both competition AND hardstyle kettlebells, otherwise super hard to find in DC thus far!

I've been going to Tough Temple for almost two months now. I've mostly been focusing on Olympic Lifting, strength training, and personal training. Just finished my first CrossFit workout here today and will be doing more of that in the future.
I can't speak highly enough about my experience. Coaches Gio, John, and Devall have especially been great, though everyone I've interacted with has also been positive, encouraging, and helpful.
I've been to gyms that hyper-focus on their competition athletes while guys like me who are just trying to get healthier felt left behind. I've also been to gyms where folks acted stuck up or coaches were overly aggressive. That hasn't been the case here. Coaches are encouraging, knowledgeable, and positive. They're happy to help you scale movements and help you with form.
I'm looking forward to continuing with this community for years to come.

I’m a few months in to my Tough Temple membership and loving it so far. As someone new to CrossFit and Oly weightlifting there’s been a steep learning curve but all the coaches I’ve worked with (Gio, John, Alice, Neil) have been excellent and are able to provide individualized feedback even within a class setting.

I was lucky to find Tough Temple and have been a member since a number of years preCovid The best CrossFit gyms are communities, and Tough Temple certainly is. The coaches are great and know everyone and their strengths and weaknesses. They always know when you need a nudge; they are endlessly supportive and truly share in your triumphs. I often say I’d been going to gyms for 25 years but never knew what I was really capable of until I started CrossFit. Tough Temple offers much more, with High Intensity and Olympic Weightlifting classes as well. It’s a great place; come check it out!

I love that he is able to give different styles of feedback depending on who we are and how we learn. His EQ is high. He is able to give me super helpful feedback and critique while staying encouraging and kind and understanding of all skill levels. And he always believes that I can do more and better even when I am skeptical, but then bc of his clear adjustments and encouragement I always surprise myself. Most of the classes I attend are coached by Gio. Gio is always attentive to each individual’s needs and yet maintains engagement with the entire class. He teaches and corrects proper form and technique and also reminds everyone of the stimulus for each workout (love this). Appropriately encourages when needed. After trying out most of the gyms in the area, walking into Tough Temple was the best decision I made. After 4 years I’m still here. The programming is exceptional, always something new that challenges your body’s range of motion and endurance to make you move better and be functionally fit. The coaches are friendly, fun and knowledgeable. But the best part of TT is the supportive and encouraging community. Here you will find people from all walks of life, from 5 year olds to 60 to 70 year olds. From CrossFit to Barbell Club to HITT 60, there’s something for everybody and every body at TT! I did my 1st HYROX class and Coach Stephen was the instructor. I really enjoyed the HYROX workout style and Stephen helped me get acclimated quickly. He explained all the movements and the pattern of the class. I felt like a beginner but not for long with his input. I really enjoyed the fast pace and Stephen kept us all organized and motivated to go harder! Loved it. I’ll be back next week and I plan to make this a regular part of my fitness week going forward.

Tough Temple is a popular gym and well worth the hype. I went specifically for the animal flow class , but saw cross fit and jujitsu as well. The Animal Flow class is diverse in terms of ethnicity, age, gender, ability, and shape, which is important to me because these classes can be intimidating to a plus sized girl-- but everyone was so kind and encouraging. The training really matches the name of the gym because there are high expectations, thorough instruction, adequate time to reach the goals, and grace extended.
I also have to say, I had the biggest endorphin rush of my life after my first class. It was amazing and directly related to the caliber and quality of the class and training.
John was kind enough to work with me make sure I got into a plan that works for me as well. He is incredibly skilled and knowledgable at how to elevate people from where they are.
The only downside was finding parking before class. Other than that, I'm pumped to attend again!

From entry, I was welcomed by coach Gio and all the members. I was running a bit late but the members were nice enough to wait for me.
During the class, Gio was very supportive and helpful. He made sure we all maintained proper technique and would give us great feedback to improve. These movements are still new to me but the members were kind enough to help me and motivate me to keeeeeeppp going. I had a great time even though my legs were on fire.
The facility itself was one of a kind.
There are three different sections!! Each has its purpose and everything you would want in a high-functioning gym.
Can’t forget about the recovery room where they have a massage therapist and a stretch therapist by appointment.
I'm very impressed by this facility it is not like any other gym I've been to before.

The warmup was thorough, along with clean and jerk progressions. There was plenty of time to move from part A of the workout to part B without feeling rushed. Gio did a great job preparing the already EXTREMELY SORE class for a brutal workout. He had a plan for us to progress without feeling like our legs would explode into a million pieces.

I had an excellent first barbell club class with Stephen. I took it as a precursor for the crossfit and I’ve never lifted a barbell in my life. I've had the pleasure of knowing Mike Silverman since 2019 when he was my personal trainer at another gym. I vividly remember how I used to shy away from anything that resembled weights due to the intimidation factor. Mike, with his exceptional guidance and training, transformed my perspective. By the end of our sessions, I was deadlifting my own body weight and, surprisingly, enjoying the world of weight lifting.
Fast forward to now, after a two-year hiatus from working out, I couldn't be happier to reconnect with Mike at Tough Temple. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by one of the instructors who were so willing to help me get acclimated. I dropped into Tough Temple for about 3 weeks and also participated in the first two open workouts here. The gym is definitely on the small side but does have a OLY room and HIIT room off of the main gym. The programming was good. Most classes the coaches did not coach and spend the majority of their time on their phone while members did the strength piece and metcon. The first open workout, my fiancé and I went a couple hours early to hangout before our heat and with the exception of a couple people, we were not acknowledged or spoken to the entire time we were there, including by the owner. The 2nd open workout was a similar experience. The owner is not welcoming or friendly, unless the conversation involves paying for a membership. He’s created a culture at the gym that does not make new members feel welcomed. I’ve been to many gyms all over the world and this is the first gym that I’ve ever felt uncomfortable and unwelcome. Gyms like Tough Temple is why CrossFit gets a bad rap for being cliquey.

@TTCF I have met some of the coaches and members! After working in the fitness industry for about 15+ years and belonging to a variety of clubs and fitness facilities I can not get over how helpful the staff is and the members are all easy to talk to. You see all fitness levels and the community feel in the place is off the charts.

I've been going to this gym for 2 years now and can confidently say: it's incredible! The coaches are supportive and knowledgable, the community is friendly, and the gym itself is always clean and well equipped. Even if you're a CrossFit newbie, I'd highly recommend giving Tough Temple a try!

Spacious, well equipped gym with excellent coaches! Coaches accommodate all skill and fitness levels in the CrossFit classes, and they actually coach, correct form, and help improve. The HIIT60 class is great too. Low impact when you need a change from CrossFit, and engaging. It is popular though.

I started at TT in early April and feels like I found a new fitness home! Love the CrossFit and HIIT options. Coaches are instructive but push the class throughout spicy workouts. Fun and friendly community with a slight competitive edge. Was introduced to a nutrition coach to help achieve a personal goal. Thanks John Weeks for checking in regularly and being super inclusive and welcoming!!! So grateful for TT!!

I love this place! I started about 3 months ago once a week without knowing anything about what HIIT was about and now I am doing 4 classes a week. All the instructors are approachable and they will give you appropriate modifications for the routine in hand. They are all very invested in keeping you safe and injure free which is very important to me.

I absolutely enjoyed my time working out with the Tough Temple Family! I started out with CrossFit and then transitioned to Barbell Club. I loved working with the coaches! They were always very knowledgeable, kind and knew when to crank up the motivation just as I was ready to quit :)! The coaches and community are what kept me driving past the Crossfit box 5 minutes from my house to Tough Temple, which was 15-20 minutes away for nearly 4 years until I moved out of state.

Working out at Tough Temple—whether it’s a CrossFit or a HITT60 class—is the first thing I do every day. The adrenaline and endorphin rush at the beginning of the day sustains me through the rest of my work day. I look forward to the HITT60 classes and WODs as they are well-designed and interesting (painful, but interesting). The diversity of the workouts keeps me engaged. Also, having the option to jump between HITT60 and CrossFit allows me to take a “rest” day from CrossFit with HITT60 active recovery. What sets Tough Temple apart from other gyms though, is the thoughtfulness and intentionality of its members and coaches to build a community together. It’s a warm and fuzzy feeling to go with puddles of sweat after each workout.

Tough temple has been part of my daily routine since 2013. I started off with CrossFit classes and now work out on my own in open gym. There’s a lot I like about the gym, but the thing on the top is that anytime I need help with something I can ask a knowledgeable coach.

I have been a member of Tough Temple since 2016. It’s a great CrossFit gym for people of all ages and abilities. They have wide range of CrossFit class times and also over classes such as HITT and Barbell. The coaches are very knowledgeable and really willing to help. If you are interested in CrossFit in Rockville, you should definitely check it out.

I've been coming to Tough Temple Crossfit for around 6 years now. I absolutely love coming to work out here. The community is great, the coaches are knowledgeable and professional, the workout programming is challenging and balanced. Their new location (also on Nebel St) is gorgeous. Two separate gym spaces with a gathering area / lobby / bathrooms / 3 individual showers separating the two distinct gym sides. They have been opened and following the Montgomery County guidelines for operating a gym during the COVID pandemic (social distancing, everyone wears facemasks, limiting class sizes).
They also offer HIIT classes and have partnered with a yoga small business (I also go to the yoga classes, which are fantastic).

Recently started here, it's been fun so far. I love that the coaches and owners take the time to introduce themselves and make sure to say hello every time to all who come. That makes a big difference for me, since I joined to meet more people among some other reasons. They even have a great schedule of social events for members. I recommend flowing their Instagram and other social media for all their announcements!

New Year's Resolution was to get in shape. Six months later - I'm more fit than I've been in years. The staff are friendly and help you meet your goals. I injured my elbow pretty bad on a snowboarding trip but they made sure I was still able to get my workouts in and helped me rehab it. I would definitely recommend you check it out!
