I love going to this YMCA! It is a gorgeous new facility with a wide variety of equipment and an inclusive atmosphere. There is no pressure to be a bodybuilder, and no shame if you're not in shape - the focus is entirely on health and feeling comfortable there. They really make it a place for everyone, from athletes to families with children to retirees. The pool is kept in excellent shape (very clean), and there's almost always a bike or treadmill available. I have found the staff to be professional and friendly. The Good Day CafΓ© has been a great addition in the past year. This YMCA seems to have a close connection to the community, and they are always running events to support local organizations and provide chances for social interaction. Overall, I am satisfied and plan to keep my membership!

To what once was a beautiful facility needs a facelift and daily cleaning. Machines are operable and not old but would it kill to clean them. Let alone the floor, donβt get me started. The child drop off care has space but minimum entertainment for the kids. Itβs a beautiful facility on the outside but for the price Iβd consider going to the Lawrence location.

They don't have Apple Pay we are in 2025..don't understand how they are behind & Weights are rusty & locker room showers rusty & disgusting. Ever since they opened they haven't done a thing to the facility. No upgrade in weights or just any upgrade in general for the facility to look decent

I currently come to the YMCA for their gym and mainly workout upstairs. Some feedback Iβd like to give is possibly going back to their old hip thrust machine and getting at least one swift machine. I prefer to do RDLs on the
swift instead of a squat rack. I also would love if instead of the extra cardio machines upstairs they could put back up the mirrors they had before, making more room for a bigger turf to stretch and do ab workouts. :)

Kids love the swim lessons and swim team there. More fun to learn with other kids.
Swim coaches are very friendly and patient.
The coaches from swim team is fantastic!! Know how to encourage kids to do better also handle emergency professionally.
Lots of classes and equipments there too, and they are always clean. Childcare is a big plus to moms and dads!!
Staffs there are very friendly and helpful.

Pool has been closed for months and no discounts offered for membership. Flys everywhere in the mens locker-room. I made sure to write a complaint about this and more flys than ever 2 years later. This Y has potential, but I've heard it's went downhill over the years. It's a large area, they should have invested in an outdoor pool.

The facility gets the job done. I mainly use the cardio machines downstairs and hit the strength training area upstairsβcanβt speak much for the rest of the gym.
Biggest frustrations:
1. No proper Smith machines. For a major gym, itβs a no-brainer to have at least one dual Smith machine. Theyβve got four squat racks (which is great), but only a short 3D Smithβwhich doesnβt give the same stability or versatility as a traditional dual Smith.
2. The upstairs layout needs work. The flow is off, mostly because theyβve crammed extra cardio machines up there along the back wall. They should:
- Move all the excess cardio back downstairs where it belongs.
- Line that back wall with mirrors and shift the free weights/benches there so lifters can actually check their form.
- Add at least two dual-angle Smith machines and rearrange the strength equipment properly. Because they have a lot of it still downstairs with the cardio ( assisted pull up, seated leg press, leg curl, etc.)
I understand why upper-body machines are split between floors but why are key lower-body machines downstairs? It makes no senseβput all the leg work upstairs near the racks and benches.
Wishlist for machine upgrades:
- Dual Smith machines
- Pendulum squat
- V-squat machine
- Belt squat

Iβm deeply disappointed with the YMCA in North Andover. My 4-year-old son was initially registered for a swimming class, but due to their error, he was mistakenly placed in an infant class. As a result, he missed two full seasons of instruction.
When I asked to have him moved to the correct preschool class, the front desk processed the change. However, the instructors initially refused to accept him and even questioned my 4-year-old why he had been added lateβcompletely inappropriate and unprofessional behavior toward a young child. After a tense and frustrating exchange, they reluctantly allowed him in, but the staff continued to act cold, rude, and unwelcoming.
My son was understandably nervous at first, as many young children are in new environments. Rather than supporting or encouraging him, the staff's attitude only intensified his anxiety. Instead of helping him build confidence in the water, their harsh and dismissive behavior turned the experience into a traumatic one. What should have been a fun and positive learning opportunity became an emotionally distressing situation, leaving him scared and unwilling to return to the pool at all.
Additionally, the water was visibly dirty during multiple visits, which raised serious concerns about hygiene and safety. It was clear that cleanliness was not being maintained to an acceptable standard.
Combined with the disorganized registration process, poor communication, and complete lack of empathy, the entire experience was incredibly stressful and disheartening. Overall, this has been a terrible experience for both me and my son. I have to cancel my membership, it was just a waste of time and money.
If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would.

Everything is great but they just made security check/ entrance a joke. You got to have arcade ready to scan, than ID they had provided and that your personal ID. They could associate everything with single bar code or with the ID pass provided. But you are stuck in line to get 3 ID levels passed before getting in. It can be simple.

It's very clean. They have several treadmills and stair climbers, so I never have to wait. Some of the equipment could use some maintenance. Overall it is a very pleasant workout experience.
There are a couple of pools, though I have not used them personally. There is a workout center in the basement called the Active Living Center for older adults. There are various classes offered.
I've been a member for a couple of years.

Used to be one of the better YMCAs. As Fabio noted, free bath towels back in the day. Now it seems the steam room and or jacuzzi is always broken or being repaired. They now require class check inβs online AND 10 minutes prior to class. 3 no shows can terminate all your class privileges. class instructors have gone downhill and theyβve jacked up the monthly rates considerably. Pre Covid, I would have recommended this place. Not so much lately.

Personal training with Brian at the North Andover Y took me from having a handicap placard due to chronic knee pain in my thirties to zero pain. I went from being incredibly uncomfortable in the gym even with a trainer to comfortably going regularly on my own in under a year. The prices can't be beat and the equipment is comprehensive, too. I cannot emphasize enough how much of this success I attribute to Brian, though. He could have trained me using objects from a thrift shop. Thanks, Brian!

This is a very nice, recently renovated YMCA.
They offer a lot of lessons and programs. I haven't tried any of them.
The weight and cardio rooms were redone a couple of years ago, so the equipment is still in great shape. They have Expresso bikes, stair climbers, ellipticals, and treadmills facing towards large picture windows. They also have a large selection of free weights and cross-fit equipment.
They have four pools, all of which are indoors. These include a lap pool, a very warm "teaching" pool, a family pool with splash pad and a smaller lap pool attached to the family pool. In the winter the lap pool can get very busy, especially when Merrimack College teams are using half of it for their training.
The locker rooms are nice, though the family locker room seems to get dirty very early in the day. For some reason, the family locker room collects a lot of standing water, which can be gross. No issues in the adult rooms. If you only have a few items, like a wallet and keys, there are lock boxes in the hallway that you can use.
There is a cafe that sells drinks and snacks.
The staff is always very friendly and energetic. They are happy to help with any requests.

Good facilities, however I am disappointed about how they run their swimming program. I and my family have been members on and off for over 6 years. I have been trying to register my youngest daughter for swim lesson for 3 years. At one point last year I met with the director who gave me 2 specific dates when the schedules are posted for registration. Believe it or not I stayed up late on those 2 dates to make sure my daughter gets on the list but that didn't work either. I put my daughter on the waiting list of all 3 years, again no luck. I wonder what the qualifications are for the swim lessons at this facility.

I think the facilities are great and the staff is friendly. I am only giving it one star because of their policy of requiring you to come in person to cancel your membership.
The official reason is that they need a signature, but I think in 2023 there are plenty of ways to get a signature electronically.
It is an inconvenient policy, and I can only imagine it is in place to make it harder to cancel your membership. I will gladly change my review to 5 stars when the policy changes.

Be aware that you have to go in person to fill out a form to cancel your membership 5 days prior to your membership renewing and you cannot cancel online even though you can put your membership on hold online. The website is vague about how to cancel. Very sneaky and confusing. Also, the AC was very weak in the summer - the bathrooms were colder than the cardio floor!

We got help with membership regarding Financial assistance which was accomplished in 2 weeks. We first tried at the YWCA in Newburyport and that was a nightmare. They were really awful. This YMCA is a very good place, it is very modern, clean, and well put together. The two big pools are very nice, and it is excellent how they have two for their swim team, lessons, and public swimming to happen all at once! They even have a smaller pool for the younger kids who are first starting to swim. The basketball courts are in great condition, and the gym itself is packed with lots of gear and machines to exercise. The staff and members are very welcoming, helpful, and kind. I signed my kid up for gymnastics because I was told they held gymnastics classes. That surely isnβt the case they charge you 65 dollars for the kid to do a bunch of cartwheels taught by a teenage girl for 15 mins a class once per week. There are no beams or barbells.
